  1. Hey Richard, could it also be motivated by a desire to grow the greating league? Please don't hijack this thread with your anti CSL-rants. Keep your comments to the CSL Expansion thread on the 'Other Men's Leagues' section.
  2. Thanks Cooks. I used to get updates from the ASA, but once those stopped coming in, I stopped bothering with it. If you don't mind waiting until the end of the AMSL season and send me whatever totals you have, I can add them to the main list. If it wasn't for you Calgary guys, people that aren't related to AMSL players wouldn't know there was an AMSL. Keep up the great work.
  3. http://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Soccer/2008/07/17/6180736-sun.html ANOTHER KICK AT SOCCER By BRIAN SWANE, SUN MEDIA Thursday, July 17, 2008 Edmonton is being targeted for a Canadian Soccer League team. The Eastern-based CSL announced its desire to establish a west division with six teams in the Prairie provinces. Investors are being sought for expansion franchises, valued at $150,000 each. CSL Commissioner Cary Kaplan says local groups have shown interest in his minor pro league, adding, "it's very premature, early stages, but they are legitimate." In the next month, t
  4. For the PDL numbers, I copied them straight out of the USL franchise information booklet. I went as conservative as possible with these numbers to show what a bare bones operation would look like. Can a team draw more than 100 people a game? I'd say so, but with that as the base, I think it's workable. Obviously there's room for all sorts of shenanigans....if I were running the Edmonton team as an example, I'd cut the coaching salaries to zero but let them run all coaching camps and clinics and keep the profits. Maybe a small percentage would go back to the team....depends what's
  5. The two threads are up although I can't figure out a way to separate the numbers into nice columns. The PDL numbers come directly from the USL Franchise Package, while the Prairie League numbers were modified from the USL numbers. I believe the USL numbers are skewed as I the potential losses are far greater than what they claim. As for the Prairie League numbers, I kept them bare bones on expenses and based the revenues on 100 people per game. With hot beer tub girls, and a hooligan friendly atmosphere, those numbers would increase.

  8. Congratulations beachesl. You were like the pesky Turks with a late, come from behind, deserved win. I on the other hand was like Spain in every other tournament before this one.
  9. Fatima was a huge conspiracy by the Catholic Church...I'd rather not get into it....
  10. They can't fly him to Lourdes? Hmmm...D'Guiza then.
  11. I'll take 25 over and above whatever is ordered so I can take care of western V's who don't order in time as well as have a starting stock for October. Mehrdad's can come to me as I have a buddy who's visiting from London in August and can take it back with him. Thanks for taking care of this.
  12. BrennanFan, I was down for 25 including the two for Mehrdad as a gift for him and the cameraman from the Futbol Mundial.
  13. Crap....I thought I had this thing wrapped up. Germany 2 - Spain 1 But to hedge my bets, Penultimate scorer - Villa
  14. I'm hoping to have time tonight/tomorrow to offer two threads which can hopefully be stickied and offer everyone a chance to 'put up or shut up' so to speak. The first thread would be for a PDL team in Calgary. The second would be a Prairie league with primary teams in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg. Secondary teams would be needed to make it viable with possible markets in Brandon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Lethbridge, and Red Deer. Pros and cons of each idea, as well as specific markets can be discussed there, but this will hopefully give this a kick start and
  15. I sincerely wish you guys the best of luck against Mexico for both matches.
  16. WF, I'll take 25 for the Edmonton area. Last time I paid up front and collected back the money as V's picked up their single orders, or sold to new ones. And I still need to get 2 to Mehrdad in London. Let me know how you want me to pay you.
  17. We're Canadian. You'd have to write apology letter ahead of time to place on the burnt out shell.
  18. I think the players main issue is with the travelling they need to do. The grass vs turf quality is another factor, but Swangard has grass too. Luckily, the Edmonton game won't affect their travelling, so that argument won't wash, leaving only the quality of the pitch as a possible knock against Edmonton. For the record, regardless of what the players preference is, the MNT games must be shared around the country. You can't build national support for a national team if they play all their games in one city. Otherwise, they'd be the Montreal MNT. Having said that, I have no issue
  19. The game's booked so nothing that can be done about changing it, but as for our support, all I can say is; Just you wait...
  20. With the economy being what it is, we get a lot of them from out east nowadays.
  21. I'm picking with my heart now.... Turkey 2 - Germany 1 But to maybe steal a point, in case the Germans win as I fear they will.... Klose as penultimate scorer
  22. Well, happy V-day to you! Welcome aboard and hopefully, we'll see more of these posts pop up here.
  23. Give the beaver in all of them a touque. I'm serious.
  24. Haha...for the longest time, Portugal never qualified for the World Cup, so Portuguese all over the world, cheered on Brasil due to our historical ties. In Portugal, the Portuguese are happy when Brasil wins, but that's that. In immigrant communities though, the younger Portuguese (who aren't fully aware of the history between the two countries) who grew up watching their parents root for Brasil, adopted Brasil as a stand-in for their homeland, so when Brasil wins, it's like their 'mother country' wins. I find this to be a genuine emotion that the Portuguese have, not only for Brasi
