Crepeau has been very good, not just Ok.  And Henry has been very solid. He had several key cut outs today and was focused and effective.

Piette!!  He has been described, often, as a pitbull. Might not be as nasty as Johnson, but he's dogged and tenacious--and a better footballer.
And while MAK has many facets to his game, his physical game is certainly not soft.

FWIW, I think this is a side and a style that might suit Tiebert.  I am not sure, based on early observations, that Felipe and Rose are much better than Rusty, at least in this system of play, and neither have the engine that he has.  Felipe is likely better technically, but he does not have the same engine or pace as Russell.  Rose has the height, and he seems tenacious, but Tiebert seems to be a bit better technically, and maybe a bit quicker, too.  If Tiebert had two feet, and not just his left, then I'd say he'd be the automatic starter over these two fellas.  Still, there is an opening here for him...I hope he takes it.

MDS might want to adjust to a 4-4-2, with Reyna playing just behind Montero. Erice and Inbeom can boss the midfield, with the Korean pushing up the field, and then Lass and Venuto on the wings. (Not overly impressed with Venuto, to be honest. Lass looked very dangerous.) Inbeom looked very good. We'll see how the team gels, but I get the impression they are still missing a few key pieces.  Reyna and Inbeom are their best players at the moment. Erice had a better game today. Ball movement is improving significantly, but they are still not clicking in the final third.  Montero looked lost, to be honest.  But let's be honest, a phantom PK did them in today. Doneil had a sweet chance to tie things up.

To be clear, Cornelius was covering for two injured left backs: Levis and PC.  MDS said at the press conference that he had to play Cornelius out of position, that Cornelius has done very well at CB, which is his natural position.

Now official: Montero back with the Caps! We've a couple of solid forwards now, which is a relief. Excited to see how this team gels under MDS. There will be some bumpy patches, for sure, but I love a man with a vision.

Just nailed the crossbars on a wicked volley in the match vs. the Galaxy. I have only seen a bit of this kid in preseason and he looks lively and quick. Exciting prospect

I feel like all three Canadian MLS teams, Vancouver especially, will be rough off the top still working out chemistry with all the significant moves on the off season. Really, when you look at the whole picture, Ottawa and all the CanPL teams can also be lumped in to say there is hardly a Canadian pro side properly prepared for this season as of this date in February. Some with better excuses than others, of course.

The midfield was starting to click as the first half wore on, which gives me hope. Lots of new guys still to add, all of them likely starters, so I will continue to reserve judgement for quite a while longer.  It is going to take time for this team to gel, and it will likely take a bit longer considering how many new faces there are AND the fact they are learning MDS's system. But some of the neat, short passing looked promising, and if the new guys can raise the levels a couple more notches, then this could be a fun team to watch. But I get the strong sense the team will not really be ready for the opener. I feel MDS needs another two weeks on top of what he has to get everyone integrated and start building chemistry.

    Fair point wrt Ruiz.
And I have the same concern about Teibert. If he is moved out, I hope he can land with another MLS squad.  I think he has the chops to contribute at this level.

Hard to say about Rusty's future.  He's essentially a high work rate role player and as long as a younger (cheaper) domestic option clearly remains behind him on the depth chart, he'll be here, unless another unless MLS team trades for his services during the season.  With the Canadian youth on this roster, I'm hopeful that some might rise up the depth chart but I'm not convinced that that will happen as much as some wish, even in this big rebuild season.  Much like the senior squad, MDS and his coaching staff have inherited these young guys (they were signed to the senior squad in consultation with the deposed coaching regime).  I'll bet that a touted guy or two might not be seen by MDS as a player who fits  his vision/plan long term and might end up being moved on.  However, we might see other young guys emerge and find their way into MDS's picture.
I'd love it if each of these new (or relatively new) faces, international down to Cancon youngies, hits pay dirt but there are going to be duds, too.  Hopefully, it's is a very small number.  If this team proves to be hard to beat, game in and game out, it'll set a good foundation going forward.

From what I've read, the Caps are indeed looking for a more seasoned forward, and Montero would be a great fit. His work rate is remarkable and he will fit in well with MDS's game plan.
The Ruiz rumour is a bit of a headscratcher, only in so much as the squad seems very deep in that role. But I would not complain to have his experience and skill on this team. It makes for a very strong midfield, especially down the centre, something the Caps have not really had for many seasons.
The team remains very young, but with plenty of upside. This is a squad that is being built for a big playoff run NEXT year, and the year after. Having said that, I am excited to see this group grow under MDS. Hell, I am even going to watch their first pre-season game tonight!

Little wonder that they're impressed with Davies tracking back on defense.
The last time Robben  won a  ball was probably taking it from a team mate who wasn't going to pass it to him.

I would be 100% happy with Montero coming back. He proved he could score in the MLS. He had great chemistry with Reyna. And he did all this under Robbo, which really didn’t seem to suit him. Montero is a poor mans Firmino, de does so much more than just score. That being said, under MDS i think Montero could reach 15 for us, which is pretty prolific in MLS terms.

Don't forget that Gent's manager hated Canada but fortunately their club management was reading The Voyageurs and on our advice fired him in October in favour of a new manager who loves Canada!

yeah, I feel the same. But I've a feeling Reyna is going to be stellar this year. Could be wrong, but seems like MDS is building a soccer savvy and high intensity squad, and that Reyna is going to benefit from both having better quality around him AND having a team playing a cohesive style/strategy. We might have a team that can actually play with the ball at their feet for decent spells...

Interesting and encouraging to see many of these young guys taking the next step in the evolution of their footballing careers recently.  In fact, in the month of January alone we've seen Davies debut with Bayern, David join a new side, Millar join SPL, Tabla join Abacete, and Legeault join the Impact. These are all steps in the right direction. Even a guy like Cornelius joining the Caps is a step up, though maybe he does not qualify as a prospect anymore. Same with MAK at LA.

Effy and Caps mutually agree to part ways. Nobody will be surprised by this news, but I will admit that I am happy this is now resolved. Nothing against Juarez personally; I just do see how he fits MDS's plans. Plus Juarez did not contribute at the level he was supposed to last season, by any measure.

Its a funny argument. I always get the impression some people overate the league and the people like Sid underate the league. My opinion is Giovinco is getting old anyhow and wants to get paid. 5 years at a club is a long time in todays world. See you later anf go get some new players.. there are lots of them out there. Or maybe you have your own Alphonso Davies somewhere in your system. Tell Sid to relax

    Finally someone thinking with logic.
Once they announce the DP and TAM signings all the complainers who said they would go support to CPL will come crawling back.
You dont need to hate TFC to support the CPL btw.
Can’t wait for the young attacking DP!
Hanni I think will fill the VV role on a 1.5 mill TAM deal
Then TFC will use VDW’s money on another TAM level player, perhaps from the allocation list?
