The Ref reacted to sloth8 in RHIAN WILKINSON
It is just a short term contract until Wiegman takes over in September. It will be a good experience for her, but I would be surprised if she remains an assistant after that.

There is a tendency to become a better and effective player when under the direction of a qualified and good coach.

The Ref reacted to dalglish07 in Carol Anne Chenard - Canadian FIFA referee
Our Podcast had the pure pleasure to interview Carol Anne. What a story, from being an Olympic speed skater to refereeing the Women's Olympic Gold Medal game. This FIFA referee represented Canada for years on the world stage. She was so engaging, funny and gave amazing insight into the referee world. This was truly one of if not the most enjoyable interview we've done. I can't recommend listening to Carol Anne enough, referee, player, coach, whatever your role in the game we can all learn from her.

The Ref reacted to dalglish07 in Charmaine Hooper Interview!! Must listen
Hello,
Our podcast interviewed Canadian women's national team legend Charmaine Hooper. It was a really good interview she is very intriguing. We discussed her career and asked about why she left the national team. She got a bit emotional but she talks about it. I was shocked to learn she had a hard time getting tickets to the 2015 WC in Canada, that was crazy to us. Links to listen are below. I hope you enjoy it and listen in.

The Ref got a reaction from Kent in Getting sick of all these penalty calls...
Seen games where the result is really determined by the VAR. The ref on the pitch doesn't have to make the tough decisions anymore. Their experience in better themselves will suffer and stay status quo, even deteriorating. Players need to vent at times, but they can't yell at the VAR. It used to be that when the ball went into the net it was goal. Now we have to wait. The VAR is too far removed from the ambiance in the field close to the action, body languages, expressions, sweat, intensity and the rest of the game.

The Ref reacted to TGAA_Star in Herdman new head coach
If Herdman qualifies us for Qatar and Canada we manage to actually qualify for the first time since 86 then Herdman will for sure keep his job. If we don't get there and or let's say we underperform again in the 2021 Gold Cup, he will for sure get fired

The Ref reacted to Patrick in New coach for Canada Women National Team
WTF is with this obsession with the genitalia of the coach? Why does no one want the best coach for the job? Did the female referees make the WWC better or worse? Me, I want the best coach for my son, my daughter, my National team. Maybe I have a desire for a female coach for my daughter because she could use the role model, but for the national team I just want the best. The women deserve the best.

The Ref reacted to Olympique_de_Marseille in New coach for Canada Women National Team
No. 99.9% she is not. She has always been more into broadcasting and public relations. She has a very good on-camera presence and has been great in her roles with FIFA/CONCACAF.
and now she has a newborn too.

The Ref reacted to Rivaldo in Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2020: Jan 28 - Feb 9
I promise I wasn't trying to get you to fork over money to read that half-baked column. I forgot about the paywall.
He writes that the national women’s soccer team shouldn’t be so difficult to see on TV.
Summing it up:
"There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the issue of women’s soccer here. A lot of Canadians, men and women, would love to wear a Sinclair shirt, but try purchasing one. They don’t seem to exist. It’s the murky broadcast issue that sticks, mind you. Call it sneaky moves or call it just business, but it looks like women’s sports being marginalized over and over again."

The last time Canada beat the U.S. was at the 2001 Algarve Cup. Sinclair scored once, while Charmaine Hooper netted a brace. Karina LeBlanc was in goal and earned the clean sheet. How do I miss you Charmaine!
