Made his MLS debut with the Whitecaps and looked really good. Subbed in to right mid. Lots of speed, skill and good passing. He started the play that led to the Caps winning goal. Then made another pass to Ricketts leading to a penalty. Was lively, skilled and made such an impression that he will surely get lots of playing time off the bench. Great start!

He'll need to get it before March 14 to be eligible to play.

I figured I would start this chart again for Canadians in MLS 2020. The list of Canadians in MLS this year moves up to 50 players. This includes HG youth players who have yet to play an MLS game and a few players already loaned out. So far 20 Canadians have seen action through the first 2 games of the season. Sigh. I feel like we've done this before. You post an essay, which essentially boils down to a question that usually has already been answered on this board or is easily googleable. Next, someone obliges and answers your question. In this case, Japan is going to postpone the games and are currently playing chicken with the IOC to see who will have to pay for the expenses. As to your other point, you want CONCACAF to announce a new format when all of its members are currently quarantined from each other with no timeline on when that will be lifted, but is best case scenario months away, sure makes sense. Then, you respond to everyone that responds to you, thus making it so that every other post in this thread is you. Finally, 2 weeks later, @admin bans you for your past verbal abuses.

I'm living through this hell in Hong Kong, don't confuse this with the flu - the territory has been in state of panic for more than 8 weeks now, with everyone in masks and living in isolation. We go out every few days for groceries (and deal with runs on essentials), that's it. And we only have a hundred or so cases. This is basically a lost year. Sports will return. We can then continue to lament how we should have and could have won matches, done better and will soon be a rising power. Until that time, be careful and stay safe everyone.

If you think about it, selling out 2 games against team who likely has fairly small appearance fees like T&T is a good plan. Toronto and the larger cities seem to struggle selling any more than 15k against a team like T&T, so really, 2 games of around 7k is almost as good. Let the smaller CPL places get the smaller countries, and share the big games around in the MLS cities. Will grow the game across the country.

    Another new member!

Wow, that brings back memories. That was the year I discovered I wasn't the only person in Canada who cheered for the football team! It was sheer serendipity that the game was on while my brother was visiting from the UK. I remember I had to call and talk to Winnipeg Fury (a complete stranger at the time) to get the tickets because he was obviously being very careful to keep Jamaica fans out of the V's section. I do a fairly good fake Jamaican "Hellooo Mon" and for a joke I was going to open with that when I called him but decided against in case I didn't get the tickets! So we went to whatever pub it was in Toronto to get the tickets and the place was absolutely packed. Four deep at the bar just to get a drink. So, priority one, I found Fury (or whomever it was) at the back and got the tix. Priority two, we fought our way to the bar and decided it would be best to get two pints each instead of one to put off having to go through the ordeal a second time. No sooner had we extricated ourselves from the crush at the bar and had one pull from the first of our two hard won pints than somebody yelled "TIME TO GO" and everybody streamed for the exits! My brother has a hollow leg that I do not possess so he downed his two in about 30 seconds. I choked mine down as quickly as I could because wasting beer is a sin and we quickly caught up to "The March", which was awesome. Atmosphere at the match was magnificent, Canada going ahead was glorious, and man we should have got the win. Such a shame that Onstad fluffed his lines on that corner. Anyway, a red letter day for Canadian football based on the incredible home support and we have gone from strength to strength in that regard since. Too bad about the result but subsequent results proved it was not in the cards for us anyway, and it was a great day out despite the draw. Good times!

On the latest episode of the Footy Prime Podcast, Danny Dichio mentions that he was brought on as an assistant coach and was working with Herdman on preparations for these games. According to him, Trinidad made the first move and said they were unwilling to travel. More importantly, he mentions that Herdman is trying to launch an official complaint over this whole ridiculous qualifying process. I've been on these forums for more than twenty years and never in a million years would I have imagined people posting content like this. It's all very sobering, really. It reminds me in part that sport is a diversion, a distraction from the otherwise (mostly) mundane everyday life and how, without it all we have is that mundane everyday life.

Most of us, myself included, lack the scientific knowledge to say which response is best. I do feel however, that it is right to be dubious about just accepting critiques made by the WHO, or any such organization, at face value. I don’t know a lot about medicine, but I do know a lot about international law, and the organisms it creates, and my view is that while many of them do great work, none of them are free from political biases. In many cases these biases do not favour the powerful Western countries. I have no idea whether this is the case with the WHO. I, like everyone else who isn’t a scientist, am forced to make judgment calls based on my confidence in my own government - and I have little confidence in politicians in general, particularly our batch of leaders in Canada. I do however feel that our country’s governmental apparatus does have some very capable people behind the scenes, and I’m hoping that they are the ones who can be relied upon to sort this out.

If we make the top 2 in our group, here are the likely teams we would need to face. The USA squad: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2020/03/u23-usmnt-head-coach-jason-kreis-names-usa-roster-for-2020-concacaf-olympic-qualifying-championship The Mexico squad: http://miseleccion.mx/noticias/3121/Convocatoria de la SNM Sub-23 para el Campeonato Preolímpico de Concacaf 2020 Both are obviously really full of talent. Haiti...gonna Haiti? They named a 22 player squad(???): http://www.facebook.com/fhfhaiti/photos/a.10152304888971188/10156966447196188/ I guess we wait until Friday and CONCACAF to find out the two players that are cut. Yup! http://canpl.ca/article/valour-fc-has-unfinished-business-to-take-care-of-as-training-camps-kicks-off No big surprise there. Love that Twardek seems to have built a release me for Olympic Qualifiers even though it is outside the FIFA window clause/deal into his contract. “We knew when we signed Kris this was a possibility. There was an understanding there between ourselves and Kris that if he was called into the squad he’d be available so there’s no issue." http://www.thesun.ie/sport/football/5181714/bohemians-keith-long-kris-twardek-canada/ Respect to him for that.

    York9 - Season Thread 2020

Let me just say that I am offended by the arguments being made about me on this thread by Rintaran, I consider them slanderous and patently false. I never insulted any moderator, nor did I ever act in a bullying way. In fact, after being unfairly banned for a post arguing that all white male supporter groups were not the model Canada should emulate, I remained silent for almost three months. Only after a PM to another admin was it possible for me to join the board again. I think it is best to stick to the facts and not make up things to justify what was clearly an error in moderating. I was first warned because I was accused, by people with a history of white supremacist and alt-right posting on this board, of being racist towards white people. I am white and male, as the few people on this board who know me can attest. Those protests should not have been given credence as a basis for warning me, but they were. That was a fundamental original error. Since the issue was clearly an offense against me, I requested an explanation in a private message, in an offended tone, and was banned at that very moment, with no recourse. Moderating a board has to be done with consistent criteria. You cannot ban a person without giving a proper explanation. You cannot do so on the basis of a personal message, with no recourse. You should not do so without consulting other administrators or moderators. You cannot use the banning to then spread lies about someone who cannot defend himself, being banned. During this process, and since, I requested Rintaran to give me his real name, as I had mine, which he refused to do. There was no basis for a civilised discussion allowed. During this period I was also insulted by people on this board in a few posts, which was allowed, with no recourse to response. This is not an adequate basis for a properly run message board. While the details about my three-month banning are probably not of interest to the majority of board members, the question of racist and sexist posting on this board just may. It is not a daily affair, perhaps not even weekly. Although certain people feel it is their right and run roughshod over the rest and it is part of their agenda; and they seem to be winning the day, as seen in this thread. A person who in a calm and reasoned way explained how racism may work, and how someone who might identify as non-white (racialised is the term used) may at times feel uncomfortable in certain soccer supporter ambiences, is then accused of being a racist. This posting is appalling and cannot be allowed. It is in clear violation of board rules, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and how the governing bodies of football conceive the sport, on and off the pitch. As I messaged about 20 long-time board members about this situation about two months ago, I know that there is a large contigent who have heard my opinion. As I expect to now be banned under another false accusation, I can only hope those reading this will understand if at some point the issues of racism and sexism on this board emerge elsewhere, beyond its threads, and beyond the skewed control of those who are supposed to be impartially monitoring it.

    York9 - Season Thread 2020

Thank you for sending me the following DM: You were banned for harassment, bullying, and threatening moderators & the voyageur's board. I will, once again, warn you against harassing, bullying, and threatening moderators & the voyageur's board. For clarification, your threat above is: I generally appreciate your posts on the board, and had hoped that we had moved beyond baseless insults and uttering threats. However, as you wish to drag this out, I'll go ahead and post this publicly myself. As you clearly have no respect for me or my decisions, I am referring the decision on all warning & banning matters to @admin. I believe @jordan is another moderator who may be able to address your concern. There may be more out there. I don't really know. You'll have to ask them. As a leftist, with a wife who is a visible minority, and two children who are clearly halfies, I have found many of the responses to the Dames of York announcement & the resulting racism spiral to be disgusting, on many levels, and the back & forth interpretations/misinterpretations of responses makes me sick. I tried ending or redirecting the conversation, I tried explaining, but everything ends with another accusation, and cries of racism/sexism. When a loading error made some posts not visible, there were cries of censorship. So clearly, locking the thread or hiding the offending posts is not an appropriate response. Just as the conversation seemed to close, you, @Unnamed Trialist, jumped in and antagonized it again, and then proceeded to issue threats, to me, via DM. I've dropped writers from my own site, very publicly, for less than what has come out in that conversation, but, the voyageur's board isn't my site, I don't like warning or banning people unless absolutely necessary, and quite frankly, I never wanted to be a moderator anyways. I asked to be able to post articles to the site, and at some point, despite my objections someone made me a bloody mod. I'm finished with that ****. Go harass another board, or another moderator, because I'm not here for you to threaten & insult any longer. @admin and @jordan and any other moderator out there can address your threats themselves. Please stop shitting on Canadian Soccer and those trying to make it better.

One of my favorite positions for him ( which I use on My Fifa Ultimate team, haha)... Is Davies as a LW in a 3-5-2. It was nice seeing him higher up the pitch on the weekend. It's amazing how much more accurate and precise his crosses and passing has become in under 12 months. His 1v1 defending has also gotten so good, incredible work ethic and in an excellent environment. It's still incredible to think he could comfortably play LB, LW or RW at this high of a level. Really cheering for Davies and Bayern to have a deep CL run. As a massive CMNT and a huge footy fan in general, I think it's simply incredible to have a Canadian play a significant role in CL contender.

    CPL new teams speculation

Talk of the Caps leaving MLS for CanPL or a CanPL team taking on the Whitecaps close to downtown Vancouver are fantasy scenarios at this point. The league isn't operating at a level that makes that sort of thing in any way likely. What isn't so farfetched is getting another overseas club like Atletico Madrid to invest in a Langley based CanPL team with a view to tapping into lower mainland BC from an academy system standpoint, while drawing a fanbase from an area that is distant enough from the Whitecaps to form a separate market in sports and entertainment terms.
