Yes he is my lil cousin. We are proud. He is working hard and developing quickly. He is trusting the process and getting a bit of recognition. He still have room to develop. The good thing is Canada team is doing well and there are some promising players stepping in. I love our national team. And would be great and a dream come true if he was part of it now or later. The criticism is fine. People have their own opinions. Our skin is thick and will keep moving on. Negative comments won’t effect his abilities. He is a humble kid that is trying to live out his dream and trying to get better every day. There are a lot of Canadian youngsters that look promising as well. I wish every footballer has a chance to live out their dream and hopefully can help out national team our for the future of Canada soccer. Nothing but love!!

We just returned from a visit to Regensburg. Beautiful Unesco world heritage historic City. The Jahn in Regensburg are sort of like the Roughriders in Saskatchewan. The team is a big deal to the locals. The stadium is beautiful and we were able to attend two games. As I approached the Stadium Fan Shop for the 1st game, there was a full sized card board model of Scott in the window. Surreal. Unfortunately Scott was injured in the against Erzgebirge Aue and he was unable to join the National team for their latest WCQ round games. Go Derrick! Jahn has had a great start to the season(and Scott too). According to the Bundesliga 2 website Scott is in the Team of the Season (so far). They'VE also done a nice profile article on his career. We look forward to seeing him back in the line up.

  3. For non-Spanish speakers, apart from what was explained by @Unnamed Trialist, it was also debated whether or not Crepeau's move was a penalty. An interesting detail was that they said that apparently many of the Mexican players who came from Europe, are being affected by the height of Mexico City. In my personal opinion, I think Canada has shown that it has an excellent competitive level. It is a team that is not afraid to attack and that even without having its entire starting team, knows how to get results. It's a delight to see this new Canada play. As some of you know, I live in Panama, but I was born in Venezuela and I have followed Canada since the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis where I attended the game vs. Chile, and from there I have become a soccer fan of your beautiful country- Thank you Canada for making us dream

    Well Done Voyageurs !!!

Tonight was a special night, I am sure many will never forget. Heck I am still shaking my head in disbelief in what Phonzie did, pinch me now I think I am dreaming, did I actually see that. I just wanted to thank the Vs for everything tonight, the effort behind the scenes to bring this entire amazing experience together. I know this has been a passion project for Jamie and it great to see the fruit of his and all the others involved labour shining in bright light especially this evening. From the pregame set up, the handing out of membership kits to making sure Coach Herdman's request to give the lads the hero's welcome they deserved when they arrived at the stadium come true. It was pretty amazing to see the rail lined with people chanting and waving flags on the grass as the team walked by, even if we initially really were not suppose to be there. Heck in the end it was all good, the CSA got some good video too ( : The south end looked great with all the flags. It was something to see when they were all up. It was something when Phonzie ended up with one post game and proceeded to parade it around with such passion. You could really feel it. Oh by the way, was that 4-1 victory something. I know it got tense after going down by a goal, but Canada never stopped giving it. Once they got their first, the flood gates opened and the victory we witnessed was secured. I cannot begin to fathom what Edmonton will be like after this, I am sure I as write this people are booking their flights west, looking to continue this journey. Cheers to that. Thanks again to the Vs and all they did in making Wednesday one that many will not forget. Onward, forward. Think I am about to crash, I am spent ( :

  6. I really don’t want to prolong this discussion, so I hesitate to wade in - but this statement is where most defenders of freedom get things blatantly wrong. Want proof? Ask the people in Alberta whose necessary surgeries are getting deferred because the intensive care units (and staff) are fully occupied dealing with COVID cases that are occurring at a much higher rate among the unvaccinated. By refusing to get a basic and simple vaccination, people are not simply taking on a risk themselves. They are making a choice that, when viewed collectively, absolutely had a negative impact on others. That is why this group tends to receive criticism If their choice actually did only impact themselves, lots of people would be perfectly content to let natural selection run its course. But in a society with socialized medicine, it does not Does this impact justify the measures being taken? People can (and obviously do) have very different opinions on that question. But make no mistake - the choice to not get vaccinated is not simply an issue of isolated personal risk.

  11. I played the highlights to my class at lunch today. I paused the video at the start of the sequence to Davies' goal and asked them who would get that ball, most of them picked the Panama defender. They were so impressed with Davies' speed and burst into cheers after that goal. Heartwarming to see a bunch of 12 y/o getting excited over Canadian soccer. Even the ones with little interest in sports were in disbelief.

  13. This El Salvador-Mexico game is boring as shit. Where are the 50 yard runs? Where are the 4 dribbles in a row? Where are the touchline scrums that empty the benches? Garbage. Pure garbage. Can't wait for teams like these to catch up to Canada's quality.

  14. Really amazing what the Mexican experts are saying. Some saying one of the best rival performances they've seen in Azteca, and one of the worst Mexican games. Hugo Sánchez says we outplayed them. Others say they did not learn from the GC Houston match. Others commenting how we pressed. Also, that we took it to them, and played cleanly, essentially saying we let Mexico play. All told, a great performance, a major achievment.

  16. Davies latest post of him standing in a bathroom was liked by 14 CMNT players. The post prior of him drinking a slushi was liked by 15 CMNT players. I didn't have time to ranalyze all 600 comments from his 4,000,000 followers. I assume they still like him... David's latest post, which is actually soccer related, was only liked by 11 CMNT. Uh oh mb Davies is more popular than David!!! Also, David liked Davies post, but Davies did not like David's. From that I assume Davies is worried David will be more popular than him.

  17. Tonight was by far the best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced at BMO. Overwhelmingly red and incredible supportive home crowd. Only way is up from here and it really pleased me to see so many kids at the game. They’ll grown in a world where this team is a force. What a night for us and for future of football in Canada.

I've had an opportunity to watch most of all of his matches thus far with Panetolikos. I am happy to say it appears his club has written his name into Starting XI with ink, so I do expect him to see action every week which is obviously better than sitting on the bench or "taxi squad" in Vancouver. I think he's played well overall but has had some issues with positioning. Hopefully, he will be able to adjust that as he gets more used to his teammates. What I do like about him is he does very well to remain standing when defending and is not diving all over the place to make the tackle. He also always has his head up with the ball looking to make the forward pass and does try to find opportunities to dribble up field if it's there on occasion. 🙂

  22. Heard a long interview with Carles Gil his NE teammate, yesterday on Radio Marca. Articulate guy. Mentioned Tajon and others at the start, discussed his career (Depor, Aston Villa) then when asked about MLS young stars named Tajon and got into it. Said 18 months ago all you could see was flashes and that his improvement was exponential, literally that he was already better this Monday than he was last Friday. Referred to his speed and strength but also ambition. Said he wouldn't last long at Bruges before transferring up. He was also of the opinion Matt Turner deserved a shot in Europe.

  23. Feels like it is finally happening! I started following the national team when I was 14, back in 1986. When we book our ticket to Qatar, I will have just turned 50. Like many of you, I've never given up on this team, but I won't pretend the past 35 years have been filled with hope and glorious football. But what is truly crazy is that we are actually getting really good. Kevin Kilbane, for what it is worth, said after the game against Mexico that we are as good as any of the very good teams in Europe. We dangled with the number 10 and 11 FIFA ranked teams, in their stadiums, and did not only come away with a massive point each game, but felt we could have won those games. There's much work to do yet, but when we get to Qatar, we'll have the belief that we can hang with the very good teams of the world, and maybe even surprise some of the elite ones.

  26. Seriously, if I were a team in a major league in Europe I'd make an offer to Bruges right away, give them double what they paid. I don't see how the guy does not have that value. Same could be said for Eustaquio, who all the Mexican pundits yesterday referred to as a major talent, none were surprised and all impressed by what he puts out. But certainly Tajon is going cheap to Bruges.

Liams roll at FC Basel is LW in a fluid front three Atm. He plays wide and in between the lines linking up with the #9 (Cabral) and the left back(Taveres or Sergio Lopez) opening up space for the lb to drive forward too which the young Taveres does really well Liam at times plays almost as a number 10 sometimes. He’s often found central behind the striker. And he played in a front two at the end of one game this season His game at Basel has evolved into a more rounded player he doenst just run at players from wide positions it’s his movement off the ball, link up and combination play that stands out imho. The other thing is his work off the ball and his defending and tracking back for the team all reasons why he’s in the team atm This move to FC Basel has really helped him to mature. He’s playing in a really good league on a talented team with lots of competition on a team pushing for a title and playing in Europe. It’s his 4th start in a row… Like I said he’s doing well and will keeping pushing more and more. That’s his drive… im currently working nights on a Netflix tv series in Manchester cheekily watching his game on my phone…

  30. Longish time lurker, first time posting here on this current iteration of V's forum. I currently live in Edmonton and several of my casual sports fan friends are asking me when tickets go on sale.. so I really hope the demand is there. This is the first MNT game we've had in Edmonton since I moved here 5 years ago and the first MNT game I've been to since 2015, so I'll be there in full voice. Oilers are on a road trip during the entire November window.. that can't hurt in terms of attendance.

  32. In the build up to games, I want to read about people’s thinking on formations and lineups, whether or not there may be a surprise commitment from a coveted dual, and always keeping an eye out for injuries. On game day, things are a complete write off for obvious reasons. The fanaticism goes into overdrive, as we assess the formation and lineups and do a live play by play for the 10s of other people that read these threads. And then after the game comes the inevitable musings about player ratings, the post mortem of anything that went wrong, and the implications for the next game for cards etc. Then the next game comes along and you repeat the cycle. And then there is a short hiatus and you do it all again for the next window. Wash, rinse, repeat until March. What I am saying is that I am going to be very unproductive for the next 6 months.

  35. This probably belongs more in the Panama game thread, but I haven't caught up to it, and I do plan on doing that. But this morning on Sportscentre it began with something like this (going from memory so not exactly correct). "Big night last night, with 5 Canadian teams starting their NHL seasons, but first..." and they proceeded to show highlights and talk about the Canada vs Panama game for 7 minutes. I know it has been a gradual shift, but I can't help but think back to 15 years ago, 30 years ago, when a Canada game on a slow day in sports would get a 20 second blurb very late in the show. Leading off the show on (essentially) opening night for the NHL, and spending that much time on it. It's amazing. The hype is real!

  36. In England where I live, most people get annoyed by international football interrupting club football but honestly right now I am annoyed that I have another month of club football before Canada plays again. The only upside is I actually get to attend the club matches but still, this will be a long month.

  37. Perspective time: The game isn't over, but Jamaica is leading Honduras 2-0 in SAN PEDRO SULA. Three days ago, many were saying that tying Jamaica was dropped points. Trying to predict CONCACAF is black magic. If you get points, any points, take them and run.

Let’s leave @Hawkguybe hes explained his reasons and is entitled to his opinion which is what we are all here to do all from different perspectives and we will disagree here I think. in all honestly I should t have snapped back I was emotional my bad. I apologise for the language For what’s it’s worth IMHO he kept the ball down got good contact on the ball and the keeper made a great save it wasn’t an open net or a miss he didn’t put it over it was just a missed opportunity. I do think he should have scored but he is on a journey not every shot will go in and not everything will go his way.. I spoke to him after the game he’s happy with how he played and thought he should hve scored but thought the keeper did very well to make himself huge and block the goal. 144am Gn…

  39. These Monte Carlo simulation models are fun - for me, at least. The WCQ models wrap up into a World Cup simulation model. And in 1 of the 5,000 randomized scenarios - Canada wins the World Cup! Here is how it's going to go down: We qualify for the World Cup We are in Pot 4 and get a fortunate draw into Group A Qatar Colombia Slovakia (who were very fortunate to qualify, given their 3% chance of doing so based on slightly outdated UEFA standings when this simulation was run) Canada We are favourites against Qatar but only manage a 1-1 draw. Big upset against Colombia, when we win 3-2. We are slight favourites against Slovakia and we win 3-1. We top Group A! We get Austria in the Round of 16. We are slight favourites. We win 1-0. Quarterfinals. Oh no, it's Argentina. We are big underdogs. Regardless, we win 2-1. Semifinals. Bring it on - we can beat anyone. Oops, it's England. We are big underdogs again. It's 1-1 after 90 minutes. In this simulation, they flip a coin after 90 minutes and we win it. As is tradition. The finals. France. We have our lowest chance of winning yet. No matter. Canada wins 3-1! Unfortunately, the Leafs had game at the same time as the finals, so we were second in the TV ratings. Still, making the second page of the Toronto Star Sports section isn't so bad. I had to type this out before the spreadsheet recalculates with new random numbers and this turn of events disappears forever...

  40. Best part of this result was taking two points off Mexico & thus keeping them within reach of the rest of the table. As we get Mexico off our plate rather early, I was wary that if they run away with the lead & qualify super-early they would play B team player against teams that we need them to beat late on in order to stay in the top 3. We just brought them down to earth a bit and in fact they don't even lead the table anymore on goal difference, so they now have to pummel the next two teams to get back on top. I just wish Herdman had taken David off a bit earlier since it was obvious we were gassed and we'll need his legs on Sunday with our roster further depleted (although we do get Junior & Spooner back at least). That fucking yellow on Laryea was ridiculous, that should have been a red for a Mexican and nothing for Laryea. I hate these discretionary yellows that you can't even appeal.

  44. Expectations with Panama here are very high. Especially after the victory against USA. Thomas Christiansen has been doing a very good job and not only technically but also psychologically. Here journalists call it the European method. The truth is that the team has a good streak that has not been the product of chance. Panama's nemesis has always been El Salvador, and its Cuscatlan stadium has been elusive with Panama. Particularly yesterday with terrible conditions to play soccer. I anticipate a close game in Toronto. Canada should assert its locality. Because playing in Rommel Fernandez stadium has never been easy for visitors. I have been to the stadium many times and the support of the fans is tireless. As for me, may the best team win. I am a fan of both teams. My national team Venezuela is virtually out from Qatar 2022😑.

I get the impression some here have never played the game or even watched it: lighten up folks. We did not have any more decent shots on goal, and that is not on Millar. He was better than David, and when he was on, one of our best 3-4 players.
