The main thing is that we arrogantly celebrate goals 9-13 like we just won the world cup.

I don’t understand. The point of the group stage is to get through. The squad must be managed and rotated it’s not about beating México in the first round it’s about winning the Gold cup. A win in game 1 and 3 guarantees that. This isn’t about personal grudges and friendships it’s about results. Like I said before 3 games in 8 days one in the heat of Pasadena and the 2nd at altitude... followed by a trip across 3 time zones for the 3rd. there is no scenario where the same starting 11 play all three games. No where. Come out strongest in game 1, a version of the team vs T &T is best. Mexico is the best place to rest players in the group stage. Play tight and play for a narrow win or a draw. Exploit speed on the counter. Millar did this versus Celtic in front of 60000... A team wins a game. A squad win the tournament. For the first time in a long time we have a very good squad. Let’s use it.

    Scott Kennedy

Scott had a great season. He had more playing time than any other player and scored three (3) goals. Transfermarkt now places his market value at $250 euro. Klagenfurt has extended his contract for two more years. We look forward to seeing his development in the upcoming season. Here's his progression and minutes played in the last 4 seasons (games played, goals scored, yellow cards, red cards and minutes played). I think this is the best 40 man roster I have ever seen for Canada and the complaining still doesn't stop!!
  10. 14 points
I am surprised to read a lot of these comments. A lot more negative than I expected. I am personally over the moon with the performance and the result! Was it perfect? No, but it has to be considered one of the best gc performances since 2007. It was the biggest win at the Gold Cup of all-time for Canada. I know expectations are high, but Martinique beat us last GC we faced them. They finished in the top 6 in LON qualifying if I am not mistaken. We beat them 4-0 and took our foot off the gas in the last 20 minutes. This went much better than I expected. All of that said, Hoilett had his worst game in a Canada shirt. I'm happy he scored, but it has to be said. From the beginning the weight of his passes were off. He looked hesitant on the ball and lethargic off of it. I expect more from a player of his caliber, but hopefully that's out of his system now. We need him at his best if we want to make a deep run.

So I woke up this morning and immediately came to this page - I was stunned. It seemed Canada may have lost...then saw we won. 1-0 perhaps, winner from David. Then checked the news and saw it was a blow out 4-0. Man, have expectations from the V's changed over the years!

So happy to see legitimate arguments/frustrations with a 40 man roster when it wasn't that long ago we would have been filling out the 40 man with players from Unattached FC, NCAA, and very obscure levels of European soccer.
  16. 13 points
The fuss actually comes from not playing any matches, let alone legit friendlies, ahead of basically the most important tournament Canada actually participates in. If Canada had been playing friendlies during international windows (including at least one in the run up to the Gold Cup), running B camps, etc, no one would give a sh!t about a closed-door friendly and its lack of stream/highlights. But the fact is we get hype but no games, and certainly none again respectable competition. Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite the team, but regardless, as a supporter it is beyond frustrating. So, yeah, can we at least get video of the goals? FFS....

    Valour FC Season Thread 2019

Okay, here are my initial thoughts on my first ever attended CPL/Valour game. A little background first; I've played soccer my whole life, and attended some pretty big matches (5 World cup games in Brazil, Women's world Cup Games, World Cup Qualifying in England, Chlesea vs Newcastle, Canada WCQ, Pan Am Games) So I am new to the CPL, but definitely not the sport. I had no idea what to expect going in, but I was excited. I won 2 tickets from Manitoba Soccer and was sitting right at centre field. The Atmosphere: Fun, relaxed, but people were still into the game. The "trench" was amazing, and next time I'll definitely venture down to that section. Loved the fact it wasn't TOO crowded like a bomber game - didn't feel like you had to rush to get a beer and could actually breath in the concourse. My seats allowed access to the Pinnacle lounge, (my first time in there) which was pretty nice, and offered free popcorn). Only downside to the atmosphere for night was the TWELVE dollar price tag for a can of beer. Paying NHL prices for beer seems a little excessive, but oh well. The Game: I honestly wasn't sure what to expect as far as quality goes, aside from my own games, I've never really watched non top tier soccer. The quality was actually MUCH better than I thought it would be. Going into the game, I didn't know any players on Halifax, and only knew of: Bustos, Goyette, Petrasso and Hoyle on Valour. Even though I'd never seen a minute of a CPL game, and had no emotional attachment to Valour, I got right into the game as soon as they kicked off. (I think the songs coming from the Trench helped). After 5 minutes, I genuinely felt like I "cared" and really wanted them to win. I'll be back soon for sure (actually going to buy my dad tickets for Fathers day!). The result wasn't great, but I think we outplayed them, definitely had the majority of possession- just had no finish, and Halifax was really good on the counter. The players: (my completely uneducated opinion after a 1 game sample...haha) Bustos: By far the best player on the pitch (for either team). Have to think if he was taller he'd be playing up a tier or two. Ohin: Thought he played well, had never heard of him before, and he stood out, made some nice plays and linked up with Petrasso a lot in the first half. Petrasso: Had a strong half before he got injured. The majority of the play was down his wing - and we carried almost all the possession first half. Hoyle: Just seems too slow. I know I'm only basing this on one game, but didn't seem to have any impact, and can't help but feel with all our possession, if we had someone quicker we could have connected early on for a goal. Gutierrez: Looked pretty solid as well From Halifax, the one player that stood out was Kodai Lida (#9). Final Thoughts: I'll be back, - may even consider getting season tickets next year. I think I'll be subscribing to ONEsoccer too. Looking forward to my next game.

    Gold Cup 2019

Yeah I have major qualms with people insinuating Canada is at the same level as the US. We haven't won sh!t in nearly 20 years, haven't qualified for a World Cup in over 3 decades, haven't proven anything. Time/results could change this, but as of right now the US is still a level up from Canada as far as I'm concerned. We might look good "on paper", but how often has Canada looked good on paper only to underachieve? Am I the only one who remembers we had the 'Best midfield in CONCACAF©' and what did that get us?

That Forge match was so much fun last night besides the way it ended, it was good quality entertaining football before a good crowd right here in Hamilton! I brought a friend to his 1st Forge match and he loved it, wants to buy tickets for the remainder of the season, the Battalion section is getting louder each match, no poster questioning numbers or trying to put a negative spin on this is going to take that away from us!

Was at the game...a few thoughts without having a chance to watch the broadcast or peruse this board yet: - David has ice in his veins. For someone his age to be that calm and collected in front of net is something else. - Davies is just ridiculously fun to watch play. - of our starting D I think Kaye was the best of the bunch...and that's probably not a good thing. - Godinho makes me a little nervous. - Piette is asked to do ALOT in this formation with the defenders he has behind him. He had a rough turnover but I thought all things considered he had a pretty darn good game. - I'm not sure what to make of Osorio in this system, very interested to see him in a few more games. Little bit of me just wonders if Kaye or Atiba up there would've opened us up for more. - Borjan is a great shot stopper (duh) - Millar was a spark when he came on, i think he tried to do a little too much a few times. Also, just a heads up for Voyageurs, the double header like that at the rose bowl has a HUUUUGE Tailgate. Next time around if we're in the same group as mexico I'd be happy to organize some sort of tailgate for us Canadians if i'm still living here.

    2019 Spring Season Attendance

@Ozzie_the_parrot aka @BringBackTheBlizzard So I'm dealing with people like of this/them (split personality?) on the French side through Twitter, Facebook and with journalists who are hardcore Impact fans... It's ok to like MLS teams and the league but I take issue when there's a need to ridicule, minimize and crush the fact that we have our own league and wanting to upgrade our national program in order to "protect" or "elevate" their clubs. The rest who aren't part of the MLS party should pick one or shut up about CPL. It's really like this in their minds. 1. CPL should know it's place 2.Outside of the big 3 cities, who the hell cares about the rest of Canadians who ironically composed over 2/3 of this country? They should have a USL team or cheer that MLS team far far away that has nothing to do with their identity just and get on your knees and fn produce already....and shut up. 3.All that matters is their team/city proving it belongs "with the big boys" and can excel neck to neck with US cities or beat them. No jokes. I had this journalist from Journal de Montreal, who writes about sports but outside of Montreal Impact doesn't know crap about soccer wrote this when he was told "country before club" in regards to Canada needing a healthy Piette for the Gold Cup "Ask Ronaldo if he'd choose Portugal over Juve That same idiot would be so quick to write about how crap the CanMNT is after a bad performance, would certainly not explore why it's the case here in comparison to other nations and ignorantly propose that "we should support even more our Saputo Billionaire who's ******** about city taxes, wanting the provinces to give him more land while he paid himself a club in Serie A." How about a Laval and Quebec City club on top of IMFC to give more Pro minutes to Quebec players so we have MORE Crepeau, more Piette, more ZBG...moron??? 4.They feel that in order for Canadian soccer to advance, the whole country should know its place and produce talents for the 3 MLS teams... The whole program should work for the 3 which might give you a few guys capable of being in a competitive starting XI here and there....and they'd still complain that club comes before country. Those hypocrites points out RESULTS but are CONVENIENTLY ignoring RESULTS that since 2007: No HEX No World Cup No U20 World Cup Yay, we made U17 World Cup, but we're not even remotely in the US league.... 5.Problem is that by devaluating CPL, you miss the chance of having MORE Canadians playing at the highest level possible. You limit corporate and private investments in the scale we've seen in CPL for a league that had yet to kick a ball. No billionaires (in Canada) in their right minds with no hope for an MLS teams would sink that much cash in a USL team like the Fury which is what we were desperately lacking all these years. 6. Sorry if I offend people but Inferiority complex and/or Insecurity. This belief that we can't do **** without being integrated in an American league dictating how things should go in Canada like the other major leagues have been doing is a problem. I'm not a CFL fans but I have MAD RESPECT that they have a higher viewership and attendance than MLS, a $5.3M salary cap, decent TV deal while dealing with traveling from coast to coast with a tenth of the US population while having the NFL next door AND.... the big 3 cities aren't the ones drawing the most...the "insignificant" rest are (insignificant to some of the snobs out there) 10, 15 or 20 years from now, this could be CPL. CFL is proving that an ALL CANADIAN league CAN do it. 7.We don't need trolls constantly trying to get us to know our place. If Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway can have successful D1 leagues with similar or lower average attendances than we do on YEAR ONE, but still be able to develop good players, field teams capable of holding their own in UEFA Champions League and Europa (sorry but you're delusional if you think LAFC survives CL or Europa group stage)...Why the hell can't we do it in freaking CONCACAF??? So freaking tired of the negativity, insecurity and inferiority complex. We are this world 10th economy. Time to F'N act like it. If us die hard fans, can't dream big and strive to what CFL has done, how the hell will casuals, non fans believe??? End of rant. ***The hangover video is my new ringtone...sue me

If you polled 100 Vs I think for 99 of those polled you wouldn't see more than 26-28 different names from that 40 man roster in their final 23 selections. With much of the differences being down to depth selection by positon as anything else. An honour to be included for sure, but the "bottom" dozen on that list is an honourable mention. That it doesn't include any CPL players is neither here nor there. They're not going to the Gold Cup either. At least this year anyway.

What a game from David. https://www.proximus-sports.be/nl/voetbal/jupiler-pro-league/video/24339/kaa-gent-rsc-anderlecht Check out David at 0.20, 1.10, 1.40, and 2.30. Heck, just watch the whole thing. Keep reminding yourself that David is right-footed. Also, in addition to scoring, he sees the field really well so attacking mid might be his best position. If that's the case, he squeezes out Osorio, no questions asked.

In seriousness, my thinking is this: there are a thousand things we could/should be doing if we wanted to fight injustice and immorality. Don't buy from sweatshop brands. Eat organic, local or fair trade food. Don't use oil and gas unless you know it is sourced from free democratic countries. Don't exacerbate carbon emissions by doing frivolous things like posting on chat forums and traveling to watch contrived sporting competitions. Don't use plastic. Ever. Fight corruption by boycotting organizations with a history of it. Etc. The situation in Qatar is probably pretty bad. But I honestly doubt it is worse than the many things most of us regularly enable through our consumption choices. And personally, if I was going to draw a line in the sand and actually take a stand on something, corruption at FIFA is waaaaaay down the list of things to get up in arms about. Worker rights and conditions in Qatar is potentially more egregious, but is probably no worse than a whole slew of things we support through short sighted consumption choices we make everyday. So in my current frame of mind, I am not going to choose right now (when we are actually getting good at footy and have a chance to accomplish something) to take a stand on this one thing (FIFA and it's very real flaws).
