Belal has been doing alright since the lock down started. He was lucky enough that the team let him fly back to canada and spend his time here over the last few months. He was able to continue his training doing individual drills and training on his own. He is now back in Germany with hopes of starting back up again and grinding it out soon. He would be 100% committed to playing team Canada. Born and raised here in this amazing country and will be proud to wear the jersey if he does get the call. I'll keep you guys posted on his training and news

Who's on their high horse?? If you choose to help anther nation, bring glory to their program, win trophies for them etc I think that does say something about how much or what kind of CDN you are. Is he entitled to do it?? Sure, it could mean a better life for him, more money opportunity etc sure, and everyone can do it if they want. But dont pretend it makes him the same as a guy who reps canada, chooses to try and make the canadian team better, tries to win for canada, supports our program and by doing so gives back to the game in his country.

    Atiba Hutchinson

You got to love what Hutchinson is doing, playing some of his best football in the twilight of his career. His career has been criminally underrated in Canada and CONCACAF. If he can keep it going at Besiktas and help Canada qualify for the world cup, boy that will be some accomplishment. Player of the year in Denmark. Multiple league titles in Denmark. Won the Dutch cup with PSV. Won multiple Turkish titles with Besiktas, became a club legend. Record holder for most European games from a concacaf player... AND led his national team to the world cup for the first time in 36 years? That would HAVE to be "concacaf-legend" status..... you couldn't seriously ignore all of those accolades.

He probably also get nailed to the bench once Altidore returns too. I can't wait until TFC loses its American influence. I've had season tickets since season 1 and I'm tired of being Team America. This is bs to have the coach of one of our main club teams push players toward our rival.

Hard to remember but only two years ago, he was an important part of the Portugal U21 Euro Cup qualifying squad. Playing alongside players such as Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid), Rafael Leao (AC Milan), Diogo Jota (Wolves). Gedson (Tottenham), Vinagre (Wolves). So for him to be a main reason for the turnaround in Pacos season is not that far fetched.

http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/sports/20200725/marshall-ready-canadian-premier-league Quote from Cavalier FC technical director Rudolph Speid: “Why we love the Canadian League more than even the USL (United Soccer League) is that this is going to be the second season of the Canadian League and they have already sold about four players to Europeans clubs." Those transfers really do attract meaningful attention.

Agree to disagree I guess (and it appears you are disagreeing with lots of folks on here) because in my mind this is precisely what a player is doing if they choose to rep another country that they have pretty minimal ties to. It is different if their country doesn’t want them - and we have both gained players and lost players in these circumstances (Arfield and Teffler are examples of both). I view that situation very differently. But if your country - the one you grew up in and the one you developed your soccer skills in - calls you to play for the national team, you absolutely are turning your back on them if you make a calculated decision to play for someone else. Call it ridiculous and judge me all you want, but I still believe in national pride and loyalty to one’s country. And yes, that is true even in something as mundane as kicking a little ball around a field.

That’s how we roll here. 1 game is enough to say either “this player shouldn’t be called anymore, we have to bring on the kids” if someone plays poorly or is benched, or “he will be a guaranteed starter for us through the 2026 World Cup” if a player plays well.

What? It most certainly is! Not for any specific national teams purpose, but for their own. No owner or GM would ever tell their coaches that part of their job didn't include nurturing and developing the young talent that you already have in the club. Not that they shouldn't prioritize winning games and getting results on the field in any way, but it's still an important job for all managers!

I am not sure what folks are arguing re the flu. Annual flu deaths in the US are estimated to be around 35,000. The US death count due to COVID is 150,000 so far. And I am using US numbers because large swathes of the population have ignored social distancing and masking policies so they approximate a "control" group with relatively weak interventions and public health restrictions. Common sense says that makes COVID significantly more dangerous. Whether it is due to the fatality rate or the transmission rate, the reality is that it has led to a substantially higher number of fatalities this year. Throw in the emerging evidence of long term health impacts from COVID, and it seems silly to downplay the threat of COVID prior to the development of a vaccine.

Would Leeds be that bad? Won the Championship and willing to invest in players of his calibre to try and stay up in the Premier League for a while? We usually hope for transfers of CMNT players to top leagues and David would be moving to a top 3 league without an interim step to France - albeit with a newly promoted team. It is a great level of play, would likely give him tons of playing time (against a lot of quality teams), and if he is successful it would raise his profile immensely.

Charles-Andreas Brym came on as a sub for Royal Excel Mouscron in the 55th minute in a friendly against Lille earlier today. The match finished as a 2-1 loss for Mouscron, but Brym had the assist on the Mouscron goal. As far as I am aware, his loan to Mouscron from Lille has not yet been officially confirmed, but it seems that it is only a matter of time.

I did a podcast on the matter and I was of the opinion that CPL is changing the landscape of Canadian Soccer The transfer of Borges, Estevez, Waterman, Atletico Madrid Arrival, CONCACAF League & Canadian Championship are all factors where I predict that the 3 MLS teams will start "bleeding" their academies and young Canadian talents stuck on the bench or USL One. They will start looking at the situation and at themselves about their realistic chances of playing 1st club minutes in MLS. Especially when you're young, playing TONS of minutes without worrying about being on a short leash allows the player to play with all their creativity, make mistakes and improve by learning on them. They know that a Borges type of performances gets you to Europe. MLS teams have been sitting on their talent because THEY COULD due to their monopoly. Kids under contract had nowhere else to go. This will change and young Canadians will start making different choices. This in turn might put more pressure on the MLS teams to give more minutes to them, or you'll start losing them. Until we get there, I could see "loan requests to CPL" drastically increasing It's a crime for MLS clubs to be sitting on all that talent and not doing much with them. Develop them by playing them or get the F out of the way.

Leeds United is a Legacy club like Nottingham Forest. They were the the best club in England in the 60-70s basically the Don Revie era they were runners up in two European Cup finals and won numerous league titles and cups. They won the last first division in 1991 before the premier league started. They hve fallen on hard times in Recent years but have one of the largest fan based in England outside of the top 6. There is a great doc on Amazon that goes into Leeds United. Worth a watch. They are an Elite club The premier league has a different level of physicality and pressure. If things don’t go your way after 5-6 games especially as a striker( ask Morata at Chelsea) u can be written off. So will be a real challenge but they hve a world class manager and a very good team which they will definitely be looking to improve im not saying Leeds is the right fit for Jonny or not Just wanted to be clear they are a BIG club and with Bielsa in charge and the right amount of money don’t right them off.

I don’t want to sound like a total CONCACAF fanboy, but under the circumstances I don’t know how we could have done better. 4 fairly straightforward games to get back into the groove, to let Herdman continue his OJT, and to strategically bring in a few young hotshots who are willing to sign up. Then we (likely) have Haiti, a higher quality opponent that we can’t take lightly and who will force us to elevate our game, but who we should realistically get by. Win that and we would have an octagonal that gives us high quality games against the best in CONCACAF. Even if we don’t make it out of that, we would have the biggest series of meaningful, challenging games in a long long time. Personally, I friggin’ love the format.

I doubt he feels American..there is no American cultural (hmmm..oxymoron) attachment as there may have been for Tabla re IC. He lives in the GTA soccer hotbed of Brampton, plays for his hometown MLS team, his friends are probably all Canadian including Davies. Playing for Canada has not hurt Davies or David in their development or rise to the top ..In fact being a Canadian soccer player is now in Vogue... wow that felt good! I'm also not overly concerned about Altidore who seems to have a genuine fondness of Tor/Can...perhaps it has something to do with how the US fans treated him during WCQ? .#BLM DeAndre Yedlin apparently has reservations of putting on the US jersey. There are many factors in our favour. Ayo has been in the US youth program for 5 years but if TFC mgt were advising him to go in that direction it's hard to fault a 15 yr old kid. He's now old enough to make the right decision...over to you Ayo.

    General Discussion on CMNT

I'm just singling out Toronto because I watched their game yesterday and they rolled out 1 American bum after another. The only reason I watched is because they have some exciting young Canadians in the fold and I was hoping to see them play. Add to the fact they had a total collapse once they went to their bench, add to that you would think this tournament is a great way to get some young players that you may actually do some business off of in the mix, add to that you had an opportunity to loan them out to get some minutes but instead you flew them in to COVIDland just to get a tan, add to that I hate TFC anyways, add to that TFC fans still try and pass off some reality in which the Whitecaps have something against Canadian players, add to that TSN riding TFCs nuts is super annoying, add to that MLSE has more invested in American properties and institutions and have actively tried to undermine the CPL in turn trying to rob Canadians from enjoying professional football and giving Canadians and opportunity to pursue professional football in Canada. So yah, next time should do the right thing and loan out some players

He is progressing. This season has been his most consistent, playing in 33 games. He is considered a player with lots of potential by FC Ingolstadt management. And played 90 in both of the most important games of the club's season. So I would not write him off quite yet. Under contract till end of next season. Not bad for a Calgary SWU kid.
