  2. France reversed the venue order for their friendlies? Bordeaux → Metz instead of Metz → Bordeaux? https://www.leparisien.fr/sports/football/euro/euro-2024-le-programme-complet-de-lequipe-de-france-26-03-2024-RLAHTZZGOZEENO4ZGI3SRZU2GM.php If we play France it would be in Metz, so only ~415km from Rotterdam and a 5 hour drive instead of the over 1000km between Rotterdam and Bordeaux.

Not an expert as I have only seen him here and there with our youth teams, but I have liked what I have seen. I don't know if Beast is the word that comes to mind, but I will say he has a great combination of size, athleticism and technique, with a strong IQ and nice defensive instincts. He's very much a holding midfielder and doesn't shy away from the ball. He's the type where everything seems to go through him.

  7. I like what I have seen from him at the youth level. I suspect he will continue to grow into a solid pro player. And Montreal has been a good option for progressing youth players. Best of luck kid.

  8. Didn't Smyrniotis start his coaching career at Olympiakos in like 2002? Biello started as an assistant coach 10 years later. Smyrniotis started Sigma in 2005 and he's helped develop quite a few of the top players Canada has produced. I know you hate CPL, but Bobby was contributing to Canadian soccer long before it started.

  9. I think vs Argentina you have to play a back 5, probably a 5-3-2. There’s no way we win that game in possession, you’ll have to park the bus and rely on the counter. I think this is the exact type of game Piette would start, I’d rather it be Choinere or even Saliba if he makes major steps but the odds are whoever the coach is starts Piette, he’s a bulldog and can defend well which are both things that will be needed against Argentina. You have to give Davies and Buchanan ego checks here and just say “Play defence” obviously you’re gonna want them to go up a bit but defence must come first. Central CB is the other question mark if we do play this formation, I went with Bombito due to his size and I expect him to be in form at the time but it could realistically be any of him, DC or Waterman. David Larin Kone Piette Staq Davies Miller Bombito Johnston Buchanan Goalie I think vs Peru and Chile you change into 4-3-3. This would give us more attacking potential and try to dominate the game a bit more. I do think Davies needs to play LB for the most possible success, play Millar at wing and let Davies go on runs. In these games the 3rd midfielder is completely up in the air, I would lean towards Choinere or Ahmed but any of Oso, Piette or Saliba are possibilities as well. I think with just 2 CBs it could be anybody, likely just based on who’s in form at the time but Miller probably gets the nod and I’m gonna stay lame and stick with Bombito there. David Millar Buchanan Kone Ahmed Staq Davies Miller Bombito Johnston Goalie These lineups are assuming that there are no injuries and in no way am I a manager, take this with a grain of salt.

Maybe not in a locked-in-forever way, but I think we V’s take a far more tactical/contractual view of things when there is a more pragmatic reality at play. Look at how LdF reacted when he got a few minutes as his first international cap. It isn’t just about tying them down in some irreversible way - though we all feel relieved when that happens. There is still a shit-ton of value in getting new players integrated and familiarized with the setup. In reality we aren’t tricking any of these guys. They commit to us if and when they are ready. And for anyone we want to bring into the squad in a meaningful way and who deserve a spot, the friendlies will be a good way for each party to try the other on, and there will still be opportunities to lock them down if we all end up on the same page about their international future. Either that or it is the keto-friendly hard seltzer talking.

  12. My biggest reason for thinking we had a decent chance of getting out of our World Cup group was that it felt like we were on par with USA and Mexico at the time, and those teams regularly get out of the group at the World Cup. But, with the way the tournament went, it's fair to say that was likely pretty naive of me. Or you could say if Davies scores the PK and Borjan doesn't cough up the first goal to Morocco, it might have been a different tournament.

  15. This is tough... Locks if healthy: 1. AJ 2. Laryea (if fit) otherwise I see us taking both LDF and bombito while utilizing johnston in a 4 and buchanan in a 5 at rwb. I dont see us taking a different RB unless sigur or farsi change their tune. 3. Davies 4. adekugbe 5. miller 6. Kone 7. Staq 8. Buchanan 9. Millar 10. Larin 11. David 12-14. 3 GK Crepeau, st clair, sirios, borjan? Likely picks 15. cornelius 16. LDF 17. Ugbo 18. Piette 19. Oso Positionally we have a need at: 20. CM: ali and choiniere likely to fight this out. Oso could also miss out but as the only over 30 guy, I think he makes it. 21.CB: Waterman and bombito currently the front runners 22. ST: JRR ahead of brym and bair atm 23. Winger: Shaf ahead of corbeanu, nelson, JMR and hoilett HM not above: Fraser, ZMG, Macnaughton, Loturi, Paton, Kaye, saliba

  16. I would rather have someone from One Soccer getting in touch with Hoillet, Vitoria, or Borjan and asking them to share their thoughts on not being part of this Copa playoff. Or Cavallini. Or Kaye (considering that he implied of having a better relationship.with Biello than Herdman). For me, that we be much more interesting.

  17. We have to rally around the fact that Saudi beat Argentina in Qatar. It's not an impossibility. When you look at the goals they scored, I can picture Davies, David and co scoring in a similar way. It will take not only a motivational masterclass from our manager but also a tactical one, though.

It'll be a little more difficult this cycle to cap-tie duals, as only official competitions count, and we won't have any World cup qualifiers. So we've got Copa and then after that Nations League.

Awesome. Needs to physically develop but his talent is clear. Montreal’s academy teams have been top tier in MLS Next and he’s their top prospect. His composure really stands out to me. Looks like a professional. I’m thinking his ceiling is between Saliba and Kone.

  22. An interesting would you rather now that we have a bit of hindsight. I think if I were to answer today, knowing how Shaffelburg has turned out, i'd say Shaffelburg, but if TFC end up having a good 2024 and the Italians lead them to something in the playoffs i'd say probably Insigne. Personally I like Mourinho more as a manager but i'd rather Ancelotti. I feel like CMNT doesn't need the circus that usually follows Mourinho around, and I say that with the utmost respect to him.

  25. That might be a deal breaker. But to be devil's advocate, he had something that was working and he got a team promoted that had no business being so. And then they bought half the mid-priced football players on the planet. I really like what I have read about how he handled young stars like Foden and Hudson-Odoi, with whom I think he won the u17 World Cup. Off the pitch stuff seems very modern and positive. At least he wouldn't be involved in any transfers.

  26. IIRC from the statement put out from FIFA the match will simply cease to exist. No points awarded for default. I don't believe it's as simple as DPRK forfeiting, although i'm welcome to be wrong. It's still going through organizational review at the FIFA level. I tried to watch some of those AFC matchups because I so rarely catch the lower-rated AFC sides. I think Nepal might be the worst side i've seen at an international level...at least the lower Caribbean sides have athleticism. Nepal were just slow, unskilled, and otherwise incredibly rough around the edges. Hong Kong had a tough draw, IMO. An aside, but there were a few interesting friendlies in the March window for Concacaf sides. I'm always interested in seeing how lower Concacaf sides fair against other confederations since it feels like they rarely play outside of their region. Guyana lost 1-0 to Cape Verde and beat Cambodia 4-1 Cayman Islands lost 4-0 to Moldova Bermuda lost to Guinea 5-1 but beat Brunei 2-0 St Kitts & Nevis beat San Marino 3-1 and drew San Marino 0-0 Dominican Republic lost to Peru 4-1

  30. 4-2-3-1 With an aggressive counter attacking philosophy. david Millar kone/ali buchanan choiniere/kone staq Davies miller bombito johnston. Johnston to stay back more and davies to get forward. choiniere (if starting) fills in for davies gaps at LB so we cant get countered too hard. Back line shifts to a 3 quite regularly as well to compensate for davies. shaf comes off the bench if the game is still wide open. If not, larin and corbeanu come on. JRR/Ugbo as a last roll of the dice if we need a goal. Bombito is the biggest risk in the line up but I dont feel any more confident with waterman at RCB.

  32. Outside of game management, the Japan game was our worst showing. However less we forget, that was the first time our team was together in 5 months, and the coach had already departed. From that time, we had a massive win in Jamaica...and a massive loss in Toronto. Considering all the uncertainty, and discord within the association...I'll say it hasn't been that bad. Going forward, we won't be playing teams like Jamaica, Panama, or Trinidad who will be sitting and expecting to make breaks on the counter. We'll more than likely have teams who want to attack us like Japan did, and knowing this it caters to our skillset. I believe if Biello or whatever manager gets Canada to play the transition game again we'll surprise a lot of teams. We are not a possession-based (""Guardiola style""), which a lot of the SA teams like to play.... but more of the heavy metal "Klopp style" counter attacking football. Any coach we bring in, I hope tries to implement that style that suits our entire players pool albeit for maybe Osorio.

  35. I'm surprised this hasn't been a yearly revenue ask as it could have been a bit more money for the association. With 2026 tickets on everyone's mind, I was hoping it would be something you'd be asked to renew each year, and that the number of years you renewed for would be getting tracked and used as a possible leg up in a ticket lottery among your membership tier. I was expecting a CanadaRED+Gold renewal email in April of last year, but nothing ever came. I'd really like to know the price of the CanadaRED+Black tier and what the benefits are. Hopefully they're still thinking of implementing that tier of the program.

We have to stop kicking ourselves over this. Not every player develops at the same pace. The difference is when a player is a late bloomer from a country like England for example, he simply reps England when he finally gets called. The Farsi situation should be an eye opener for people. There are some players that are simply not going to want to play for Canada. I will cheer for the ones that do. The mods really should move threads like this one to World Soccer where they belong.

My dream is for the two of them to play on the same side... could u imagine.. one inverted one natural..both direct attacking players..Liam has the defensive responsibility and Davies the pace to recover if needed...like you said fluid and changing postions..that to me is something we need to see... as long as it's balanced and the back 3 is solid..let the other team worry about us for once... Really too bad he picked up that knock I feel like that game could have really used Liam's pace...(which shaff did when he came in) but think we were very lucky on their one chance late in the game when it was 1-0..against better teams that's the equaliser...

  43. Thanks for sharing the stats, but it's kinda comparing apples and canolis. His stats don't scream offence for Bayern because they don't need or use him that way. We've all seen and commented that he's eased off the offensive runs after the first 2 seasons or so. My 2 German Bayern pals tell me he was asked to do that. Comparing that to his stats for Canada, where we want him to make those runs and combine with the offence isn't really proving anything. On top of that, it still requires wholesale changes to the formation and system, because it's just not working and clicking at the moment. If we really want to play counter attack, he should not be playing WB anyway, it would imply he be at least close to the box defending. He should be further up the field at LW if we really wanna maximize him in a counter attacking system. I was totally sold on WB Davies until the evidence came in. I feel Davies at WB takes away the effectiveness of having him at LB and/or LW and only has the drawbacks. He isn't as effective and neither is the rest of the team, perhaps another coach and system could fix it, but not in our recent WB system. Either way, totally respect your view on this, mine just differs. I don't feel everything needs to go through Davies and I don't think we should alter the lineup to accommodate him. For me, our best 11, with everyone at their club spots, is in a back 4 and Davies at LB. We can try a poll on here and see what the general consensus on the forum is. Not that it really says or means much, we haven't seen him play LB for CANMNT so it all remains theoretical until a coach tries it. Plus, if we went by this board, Borjan and Vitoria would still be starting!
