    Axel Desjardins

Hey guys, Axel's brother here. I thought I would update his situation. First of all, the promotion was something else. He said the night of the game til the next morning was the best time of his life. He said it gave him a taste of what it's like to win something for a team, for the fans, and for a city. Especially in Spezia, where the fans are fanatics. Secondly, with a promotion in a first division, there comes a lot of changes. They have a new director, and everyone at the club is getting re-evaluated this week, including Axel. Spezia will decide if they want to keep Axel, send him on loan or transfer him in the next days. He is doing the best he can and still working very hard. They had physical tests a few days ago and he absolutely annihilated his teammates in the strength department scoring the highest by far. Axel and his agent are doing the best they can to get some minutes next season. I'll try to keep you guys updated, but we'll get some more official news soon.

    Scott Kennedy

We're excited to watch Scott take his game to the next level. Throughout his career, he has played with focus and discipline, consistently improving his skills and the speed of his game. We do not know what Regensburg's plans are for him, but we expect he will play LCB. At Klagenfurt Scott's main position was LCB. However, he also played RCB (if required), midfield and, when they needed extra scoring power, he was an extra striker. As a young player, when Scott led Calgary West to winning the Provincial Championship, his coach stated some prophetic words, he said: "Scott, it is said that one's true nature (good/bad) surfaces under intense competition. Some crumble, some shrink back, others will compromise their integrity and values to win. I've had the pleasure of watching you, and teaching you, and have asked you many time to compete. To compete at a higher level, a championship level, to lead us on the field. You never flinched, you stepped up and you delivered. Your performance on the field was matched only by the integrity you displayed, even when things got ugly. You are a premier athlete, not just because of your abilities, but also because of your character. Any coach would love to have you on his/her team." I'm confident, these words will prove true again in Regensburg.

    The Road to Qatar.

If we can't win this group, we only have ourselves to blame. I don't think anyone in our group would be favoured to make it to the World Cup, so if we think we can make a World Cup, we should have no complaints. If we have a couple of relatively tough games against Suriname and/or Bermuda on our way there, it prepares us better for the next rounds.

Mark-Anthony Kaye was playing USL at 23 years old. Richie Laryea didn't play a professional match until he was 21. Derek Cornelius was playing in Serbia at 20 years old. Samuel Piette was playing third division Spain at 20 years old. Jonathan Osorio turned 21 during his first professional season. Tosaint Ricketts made his professional debut at 21 years old in the Finnish league. He has since played in Romania, Norway, Turkey, Israel, and Lithuania. He is also the active leading scorer for the national team. Atiba Hutchinson was playing with the Toronto Lynx at 20 years old. Dom Yankov turned 20 a month and a half ago. He has been playing in the Bulgarian league since the age of 17.

    2020 CPL Island Games

During the games I volunteered and was assigned to help Valour while they quarantined. There were a few evening grocery runs, a breakfast delivery and an emergency Red Bull intervention. Nothing too demanding but as a thank you gesture, I was just given a team-autographed 2020 jersey. Very, very cool. Classy organization that just acquired a fan. Cheers.

We can't be scared of Bermuda and Suriname ffs. It's probably a better thing we play decent teams in that round than just beat up on minnows anyway

    General Discussion on CMNT

The question isn’t whether not not he can make Davies at LB. That is a non issue. The issue is whether not we are stronger as a team with him at LB or at LW, and that debate isn’t settled or nearly as clear as your post indicates.

Easy on Morgan guys, he's had a decent MLS career and always answered the call for our National team which he chose over Jamaica who I know for fact were trying to cap him, I worked with one of his close relatives!

@Free kick, Ludogorets is not your average Bulgarian team. They are miles ahead of everyone else in their league. Yes the league is terrible, and if he was on any other team in Bulgaria I would agree with you. But Ludogorets is a very good team and he is starting for them at 20 which is impressive. On top of that, he has played for Bulgaria at multiple age levels so they obviously rate him as well. We have not had any matches in ages and have no matches in the near future. What else are we supposed to talk about if we aren’t allowed to discuss prospects like this?

    The Importance of Alphonso Davies

Hi everyone, I write from Italy and I found this forum searching for Davies on google. Below you will find an article on Davies on a very well regarded soccer website here in Italy. It is in Italian but with google translate you should be able to understand it https://www.rivistaundici.com/2020/08/19/alphonso-davies-bayern/ Btw, do you want Cristante back in exchange for Davies?

I disagree with you on this one. First off "it's really hard to judge the players". I think having our own league greatly improves our ability to judge the players. In the past we had guys like Babouli playing in Syria, Aleman playing in Costa Rica, Bustos playing in USL, Fisk playing in Ireland, Boakai playing in Finland, and Chung playing in lower levels in Germany. With CPL we put all those guys in one league and we can see how they play in a single league (and how unproven guys like Farsi do against these pros as well), instead of doing the mental gymnastics of trying to figure out what is better, a mid-table Costa Rican team or a bottom table Finnish team, etc. As for the U21 minutes, I think the rule prevents things like what we see with TFC for example. In any given year, TFC will have a few guys they signed from the academy that are destined to get 0 minutes in the season. I don't think the minutes restrictions are very onerous for the managers. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I think all the teams save for Forge easily surpassed the quota this year in some cases more than doubling the minutes requirements. And besides, doesn't Liga MX have youth player requirements? Even the EPL has domestic player rules, which is similar in that it mandates a quota of a specific type of player, and therefor limits a team from building the squad in certain ways. I would argue Liga MX and the EPL don't have identity crises and are in fact top tier leagues.

    Richmond "Richie" Laryea

You can pretty much throw out MLS assists stats as being meaningless since they deprived Laryea of one on that play. If you can't get an assist when you take the ball, run 50 yards with it, being about 3 guys and setting it up perfectly for your teammate on a tap in because the pass is deflected then you might as well not award assists at all. Ridiculous.

    Richmond "Richie" Laryea

All Richie Laryea on TFC’s first goal tonight against Montreal Impact. Richie Laryea with an Alfonso Davies type run down the side of the touch line , turns on the burners and puts in a nice cross for Piatti to basically more or less tap in the net. This kid just continues to impress . If he keeps this up a move abroad to a decent league might be a reality .

It's a charged world. We watch this game to get away, we are here to support the game in this country. There are a lot of Conservatives and Liberals on here and all of them have right and wrong ideas. There's another forum out there to argue about those things. I really don't understand the negative spin a few posters on here have on him, why all the hate for a Canadian kid? I must be watching a different game sometimes, once again I watched him very closely last night to see where all of this poor play is, his positioning was excellent, someone mentioned him being conservative, I'm sure those were directions from Vanney! His passing was very accurate, I haven't seen stats, he was always in space and a welcome outlet to receive a pass and start attacking play! The only poor part of his match were a couple of long range shots he skied but guess what, a multi million dollar Designated Player who is paid handsomely to score did the same thing!

    The Importance of Alphonso Davies

The Alphonso Davies thread should be about his soccer, not the politics around refugee programs and whether or not that would hamper our talent pool. It is not like every refugee is a potential national team player anyways. No, he was right. You want to talk about that, by all means, just do it elsewhere. When you bring up politics, someone is going to get pissed off and offended. Someone is going to cross the line. It clutters threads unnecessarily. The cons outweigh the pros.

Because they used up all their HG slots(29-30) with Nelson, and Marhsall-Rutty. All I know next year better be a clean out - Mullins, Zavaleta, Dorsey. I'm sick of watching TFC use these average guys at the expense of HG/Canadian talent.

Drake and Beiber etc are out there flying the CDN colors and reaching millions. I dont care for the v-log expecially either, but it is cool to see 2 young CDN sports stars out there getting a millions views in a day. Stuff like this raises the "cool" profile of soccer for CDN kids. Whether us old fogies like it or not, the young generation like Tomori, Akinola, etc etc probably would pay attention to this.

    Liam Fraser

I'll echo what others are saying in that I don't know what match some of you guys were watching. As pointed out in TSN's half-time analysis, Fraser was helping TFC to dominate the game in the first half, keeping his team in possession and playing some clever balls forward and helping to lead the press. Dos Santos saw this and so for the 2nd half instructed Teibert to go right after Fraser so that he didn't have time on the ball. So Vanney then made his adjustment by bringing on a different kind of player who would cover more ground up the field rather than being a cross between a third CB/right back. TFC didn't really play well after Fraser left the field (not helped by losing a lot on the left side when Laryea was taken off). One gaffe (where frankly, he shouldn't have been the last player back to begin with - at least one of the two CB's should have been backing him up) hardly negates all that.
