  4. I think not getting the 3 points against Honduras is probably something we can live with especially as we got 1 there and then probably an unexpected 1 against the US which really as another great bonding experience for the side. But dropping 3 against El Salvador would be huge and probably terminal to our qualification chances as they are one of (if not the) weakest side of the 8. That doesn't mean they are not stronger than expected but who else would you rate lower than them. Panama has proved to be much better than expected. Jamaica is on 0 points but you have to say that over 14 matches they will come out ahead of El Salvador if not outright qualify for one of the top 4 spots. Honduras has 2 hard fought road points. The one possibility is maybe Costa Rica which really seems to be on a downward slide due to age (although I would reserve judgment on that until perhaps after the November round). We really need to end with 5 points and not 3 after this round.

  5. Only saw about 20 minute of the USA match but after watching the test against Honduras, this is 3 points. Sure, it's football, shit happens, but this is 3 points. Go at them. They have nothing. Go at them the way other teams used to go at Canada because we had nothing. Don't be stupid. Take what's given, but they will surrender a goal if pressed and then they're done. Play the ball into their box because it will come. A header, a penalty, whatever. And once we're ahead if they try to open it, they are dead meat. I firmly believe this is a chance to put on a show for the home support. Doesn't matter the squad rotation. We can skin those guys. If we want to. 😈

  6. An average of 393k watched US vs Canada on TSN. Versus the recent Euros, it would rank in the third quartile. Finland vs Russia in the morning was one of the lowest at 201k. England matches got 900k+. About 7 matches got over 1 million. Vs Canadian MLS in the past couple of years, it is on the higher end. But lower than most TFC playoff matches when they reached MLS Cup Finals. Overlapping the soccer was Bombers vs Riders which got 980k. This game is part of the Banjo Bowl and is usually one of the CFL's most watched regular season games. Another Canada vs USA match up last Tuesday (women's hockey final) got 836k.

  7. There is a tinge of misogyny here if this is the only reason. Pulisic doesn`t own his sister. There has to be more to the story.

  8. Just for a couple updates I received about the El Salvador team. ES were to train at a local club in Cambridge tonight and tomorrow. 2 players tested positive for Covid so the team was unable to attend training at the club tonight. Not sure if that means that they didn't get a session in tonight or not but they are scheduled to train there again tomorrow. Apparently a couple players vaccines weren't recognized by Canada. Unsure of the players and what that means for their eligibility. Zavaleta is fit to play tomorrow. Apparently he was removed from the game vs Honduras due to a migraine.

  9. Gotta be Tajon and David getting us the three points Wednesday. Really interesting to see how Herdman has to manage the squad in a three-game Int'l break these days. Let's bring it on Wednesday...

We seem to be embracing CONCACAF. It might be controversial to some on this board (I haven't seen anyone mention it, but I wasn't on the game thread) but I thought it was hilarious when Borjan had a seemingly planned injury out of nothing. Instantly the entire team was at the sideline talking to Herdman and getting hydrated.

  12. This match is 3 points, simple as that, no excuses. ES is the worst team to make the final round, and being at home Canada needs to take it to them right out of the gate, not play down to their level. 5 out of 9 points from this first break is something Canada can build on.

  13. They only brought 20 players according to their twitter post. Hopefully it hasn't spread further. I assume some players got the Russian or Chinese vaccine? I assume the government of Ontario or the feds won't arrive after kickoff to stop the match Brazilian-style! 🤔

  14. One major plus is Tajon is fresh. He burned the Americans a few times. This El Salvador team hasn’t rotated at all so should be a good matchup for him. You know he wants to put in a better showing then the Honduras game.

  15. How stupid and antiquated are these accumulation rules. They really need to revisit these. imagine being suspended for the 14th qualifier match for picking up 2 yellows in 13 matches for example. this isn’t directly in reference to Alvarez, but just in general

  18. Current evidence seems to show that the US is not very good away from home. In their last 8 competitive away games, comprising the last Hex, Nations League, and the start of this Ocho, they have a single win, in Cuba, to go along with 3 losses and 4 draws. Based on that record, an American win doesn't look very likely tomorrow in San Pedro Sula. It sucks for them that they can't play all 14 games at home like they get for Gold Cup and Nations League finals.

  19. Look at the rest of our schedule. It's a mess. Not one "good" window. Most of those points are going to be terrible to get. If you had to say "easiest" match, it's this one.

  20. The importance of 3 pts in this match can't be understated. Our next window of matches will be very difficult, and so we have to rack them up!

  26. I am really enjoying seeing the US team in a bit of turmoil, tomorrow's match is obviously huge and a loss or maybe a draw could really set things off, perhaps they aren't going to be the guaranteed top two automatic qualifiers many of us felt they were? They do have a lot of depth and some quality, I'm sure a win tomorrow would settle things down, for now!

  27. I agree with this. We should be thrilled with the result of the match versus the US. But its one match. We met our expectations in one of two matches. I started reading here stuff like “Our talent is approaching that of the US” or “we are as talented as the US, or are catching up to the US” and this calls for a bit of reality check. Ahem, as much as i would like to believe this stuff, anyone looking at it objectively can realise we dont. For every TB we uncover, they uncover a Caden Clark and a Br. Aaronson (sp). Overall, they have more players playing overseas a good clubs than we do. We played as well and deserved the result we got Sunday but our objective remains to get that third spot. Our real competition is Hon, CRC, Pan, ES, and Jam. Its not Mex and US. We are competeting for that third spot; thats our objective. The US has ten times our population, a more favourable climate and the popularity of the game is growing at similar pace to canada.

  28. Has to be more to this than a trist between consenting adults. Rumours in the public domain are their own creatures so take what's written with the usual bag of salt. If I had to guess it's down to breaking COVID protocal and the ensuing pissing match with his betters that followed. Snowballed into something else and now it's enjoy your holiday Mr McKennie.

  29. I mean, demonstrably false. MLS did for the first number of years what it was intended to - establish a league for American players to continue playing, aid the national team in getting back to World Cups, and make soccer more mainstream in the US. And it did that. Now, if you want to argue that the US system of high school->college->MLS is a poor development pathway that the US has stuck with for way too long, I'll 100% agree. If you want to argue that they're still struggling to find a bridge between their development academies and MLS, again I'll agree. The USSF and MLS have hit a plateau on their player development, and they don't seem to know how to push through it. But to say that it's been 25 years of failure, or that CPL has done more in 2 years is quite frankly just false.

  30. Why would you even point that out? Do you enjoy belittling everyone...or just those not involved in the MLS? Your priorities seem to be out of whack...again.

    Doneil Henry

Since returning back to CMNT this year after a lengthy time away due to injuries and timing, he has played 8 games. In those 8 games this year, he has been relatively good to very good in almost all games with the exception of the penalty he gave away against Mexico. Unfortunately, he's had these mental breakdowns before but in his 8 caps this year he has given away 1 penalty and received 1 yellow card on that same penalty. I still believe Vitoria is our main guy there during these qualifiers but Doneil has shown me he can be a decent backup in the position.

    Daniel Jebbison

Eh, I'm sure he'd still take advantage of England youth call ups if the option was available. I still have no doubts he'll commit at some point. As good as he is, he's not at the level to seriously be considering England unless he wants to hold out until he's near his prime, and even then there's no guarantee, and he would absolutely have gotten opportunities with Canada during that time. I'll start to worry about Jebbo committing to England when he's banging them in for a top 10-15 club in the world. If you look at the young players that England have called up in the modern era, it's Bellingham, Sancho, Greenwood, TAA, Hudson-Odoi and Saka from Dortmund, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. I'm not saying Jebbison can't eventually get there but he's a long, long way from England's first team at the moment, and he's not far at all from Canada's.

  35. Agree, I love that the 4 teams tied with 2 points all play each other on Wednesday. A win against El Salvador would be huge as US and Honduras will be taking points from each other.

  38. For USA draw we got 5.54 pts. For Honduras draw we lost 0.53 pts. According to the live rankings I believe that puts us up one rank to 58 (above JAM), but of course we should probably wait till end of this window before doing any calculations. A win against El Salvador would get us 11.9 pts. If you're curious about any pts gained/lost, I posted plots in the previous page of this thread. And current ranking pts are found here: https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/men?dateId=id13372

    The Road to Qatar.

I think the "Jamaican" guys are a little too English in that they likely thought Concacaf is a Mikey Mouse joke and they could just turn up and win games. I expect them to wake up and start to pour it on later in the qualification. Or just quit

  40. I have an MBA and I think the pricing on these tickets were found out to be right and in fact, could be slightly higher. What I’m truly offended by is that if you are a Voyageur and sell tickets to an away fan, you are taking advantage of the group and being a “Judas”. And worse still, if an away fan buys a ticket not knowing better, they better not be showing off their colours cause it could be a very expensive, unpleasant experience.

  42. I should clarify what I meant to say. I watched the Honduras game on my big screen while posting here on my laptop on my coffee table. While trying to keep up with the posts I think I missed half the game So, I promised myself I wouldn't do it vs the USA. Having said that I missed most of the USA game posts and I wasn't going back to read 20 plus pages of posts. Believe it or not I am a very tech guy, I have been using computers since the late 70s and have a college diploma in computer programming. I have smartphones that people have given me but I don't use them. One issue I have is I don't like the small screens and two I don't want anyone to contact me, I have zero interest in mainstream social media on a daily basis. So yes, I am proudly a dinosaur, I want my technology to work for me not me for it
