  1. It's a foul by Laryea, or a penalty for chopping down Laryea, or a penalty for handball. Corner kick is not one of the reasonable options.

Ayo credits Herdman, D&D and Canada for his change of mind.

  3. Disappointed by how little Corbeanu has been used. Two goals in what... 200 minutes? He's creative with the ball and quite easily our best high crosser. A legit Premier League player and we can't find room to use him as a sub. Edit: 134 minutes.

  5. I wrote a very angry email after the Haiti game complaining about the lack of puns from Wheeler, so hopefully he's in fine form tonight. Combine that with a solid "Fuck me, did you see that?" from a hammered Dunfield, and I would be in heaven.

Suriname is the best example of paper talk. They are still a level below the teams who made the Ocho, despite having a best 5 or 6 team on paper, according to Herdman. Right now they are in the 9-13 range, probably below Haiti and Curaçao but maybe above Guatemala and T&T. Many thought their Dutch style would tear apart CONCACAF teams, but so far I see the opposite. It is Suriname who struggles to adapt to the directness and intensity of CONCACAF. When they eventually learn how to battle they’ll threaten the top 8. Looking forward to seeing them in Nations League A next year.

  7. Panama should have had the draw. That wasn't an offside. VAR should have overturned it. @xabuep2 must be furious.

  8. We should have gotten a tie out of this game, shaft on the penalty call aside. Larin missed a great chance on that horrible giveaway in the first minute of the second half. Cavallini doesn't have a breakaway gear on his opportunity. Buchanon misses by inches on one shot and then gets stopped on that half chance. We had the chances to do the job but didn't do it. However, that's behind us and now the focus is on the QF.

  9. I liked what we did in that second half. Buchanon is developing into a game changer. I could really see a front three of David, Davies, and Buchanon in the fall. Dangerous attack for any top national side to defend against.

  11. Regardless of who starts, I want to see max intensity and effort from our guys in this game. There are no easy games going forward. Now is the time to ramp it up.

  12. Don't understand the hate for Piette. We needed a pure ball-winner to throw at them, and he did his job well. Fraser is Fraser... I don't think he should be here, but he was fine. It's a shame we couldn't break down their bus, but it's a good sign they had to resort to that. For almost 70 minutes, the US looked completely overwhelmed. I think the rest of the team should've followed Johnston's lead and sent in a bunch of crosses, cause we just didn't have the precision to break their lines in the final third. We spent too much time trying to sneak through, and that was never going to work. And to be clear, this is very much our B-team. No Davies, David, Eustaquio, Atiba, Arfield, Borjan, Kennedy or Adekugbe and no Larin for much of it either. Lot of positives to take from this performance imo - we were much less wasteful with the ball even if we didn't convert in the end.

  13. Can we beat at US team with a A squad? Not really important. This team needs to beat the Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica types. We have not been able to do that historically and after pumping a bunch of minnows with goals and beating Haiti, people are getting a head of themselves. This game adds credence to the idea we’re becoming more competitive. Look at it that way.

  19. This back three formation is just adding to our issues distributing the ball. This coaching staff so far look to me like a great bunch of recruiters / cheerleaders but no signs of being tactically astute.

    Tajon Buchanan

I’m hoping for a better career arc for Buchanan than Simpson. I really think he can make it in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe and stick. I think he’s probably good enough to make a Ligue 1 or Series A team at the moment.

The thing that really bugs me (and I am sure I am repeating myself) is just how utterly unnecessary those types of keeper mistakes are. There is no reason whatsoever for them to happen. They occur because you either wait way too long to make a clearing kick (that you could have just made earlier), or you try to hotdog with the ball against a guy who is most always faster and has better footwork skills. For me, that is the most enraging part - there is no need for them to happen whatsoever.

  22. Alf de Blasis is a major upgrade for Onesoccer. No need to have broadcasts sound like they are being done by a former junior B hockey player from Moose Jaw or a BBC local radio castoff. There are plenty of people in Canada who grew up with the sport as their main sporting passion, know it inside out and are capable of announcing soccer player surnames appropriately.

  25. There is no such thing as a good loss IMHO but there are some very encouranging things I took from that, a great second half and some of you who bashed Miller and Fraser so badly need to have a rethink in my book, they both created several chances by great tackles won! I think we have some injury problems up front but Can stayed eleigible and Hoilett is versatile enough to play there, a great match to watch, oh and we got another case of being CONCACAFED and rebounded nicely!

  26. Well, on the bright side: - we showed we can play with the US. First 20 seconds aside, there was nothing in this game that should make the boys feel like they can’t get a result in WCQ. If anything this is probably a confidence builder knowing that they were in it until the final whistle. - we didn’t get any yellows despite being forced into playing a number of guys with one already. - we are into the QF and should be pretty primed to play next weekend. Not sure about Ayo, but I suspect we will have everyone else available.

  34. After watching that goal during the cooling break I'm gonna have to hang it on Fraser, that fly by at the top of the box was childish. Piette had to come over to try to clean it up and got a tough bounce, laryea came across to try to fill in, and the back 3 got a bit scrambled trying to cover, hence the wide open man on the wing. If Fraser doesn't run past his man like a child everyone is covered and we're still in good shape.

    TFC 2021 Season

Time for the kids to get the hell out of Dodge IMO. With a GC-depleted lineup (missing 3 first team players) none of them see the field. With the precedent that Armas set (sticking with veterans at all costs) it sure seems like TFC has little intention of giving the young guys any real meaningful minutes this year. If I am a player at a crucial stage in my development, I would be hunting around for a loan somewhere I will actually play. Because either the kids aren’t good enough to get on the field, or the TFC management just don’t think they are good enough to play in MLS. Either way, this seems like a situation that will stunt the development of some significant guys in our next generation of players.

Honduras & Panama play with no fear..regardless of the opposition. You simply cannot intimidate them. They get stronger in the face of adversity. Our squad still look fragile but getting better. A solid performance today will help. Just need to see max effort our there 👍

Watching the Honduras - Panama match, I suspect both these sides will score goals against us in the Octo. But both can be exploited defensively. I suspect we might even see some 3-2 or 4-2 matches. Should be exciting.

    Gold Cup 2021

From a few VAR occasions so far, I have to say CONCACAF VAR team sucks big time comparing the team in Euro Cup. They never have played a proper slow motion for an accident when the referee needs a whole picture and process most. Too much paused and back/forth movement clips. The Euro team never made referee feel difficult to make a decision.

  42. Or maybe he means the "Championship". That seems more likely. I'd love to see him in Germany, frankly. I feel the Germans, on a whole, do a better job of developing young players. Must admit I am blown away by how rapidly Tajon's has risen as a footballer. Sure, he's not as quick as Davies, and maybe not as crafty, but he might already be better than Phonzie defensively, and he might be a smarter baller, too. He simply does not look scared out there, ghosts defenders at will, and works his ass off. We've had a handful of remarkable revelations this past year or so, including The Stache, Tajon and Kennedy, even Johnston. One could almost get ridiculously optimistic for the future of our national team if one wasn't careful.
