  1. It means very little in the grand scheme of things, especially when considering his father Ruben was employed by Ontario soccer and worked throughout Southwestern Ontario for years. However, Ruben recently replied to Canada Soccer's tweet asking fans for their Top 5 favourite Gold Cup Players of all time. He replied with his top 5

  2. In 2019 we rested guys against Mexico in the 2nd game, but it made more sense to that year than it does this year. 1. In 2019 regardless of whether we finished 1st or 2nd in the group, we would be on the same side of the bracket as Mexico, meeting them in the semi finals if both Mexico and Canada won the quarter finals. This year they fixed that ridiculous set up and winning the group means avoiding Mexico until the final... assuming Mexico wins their group. 2. In 2019 we had a much more gruelling travel schedule. We had to travel 1429 km from game 1 to 2, then 2181 km from game 2 to 3. Then finally 1489 km from game 3 to the quarter final match. This year we don't have to travel at all during the group stage, then only 743 km to the quarter final location if we make it, then we stay in Texas if we advance to the semi finals. This makes it less necessary to rest guys (I don't know if it completely negates the need or not, I'm sure that's a matter for debate). 3. In 2019 we were resting guys in a game where we were a longshot to win, to give us a better chance at the more winable game. If we rested guys against Haiti we would be resting guys in the more winable game, potentially throwing away points that should be easier to get than in the game we would be saving them for. So yeah, for me play the strongest squad against Haiti. See how guys feel before the USA game and play the guys that are willing and able, because it is massive to win the group this time around.

    Lowell Wright

First time watching him today and wow, i can't believe there's not more hype around here for Wright. Nothing flashy today but his defensive positioning is David-esk and he shows impressive natural strength and balance to shoulder roll defenders like Larin does. Add well timed runs and all kinds of other superior technical ability. And he's a 2003..! Assuming he's got the right attitude I'd say he's got what it takes to be a top top prospect for us in short order. Hopefully we don't have to wait for a European transfer rumour before appreciating some of these exciting young CPL kids more

There is no excuse for any Concacaf player currently in the USA to not be fully vaccinated by the end of the GC assuming that's what they want.

  10. Yeah I rewatched the video a couple times and I saw his left at first, then he says "we're doing the right" so it may well be both. As you mention, seems like many players get both taped as almost standard practice now. Oh the things we analyze to pass the time on game day.

  14. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, guys. This is just as much about politics than anything else. The excuse always seems to be about ICU rooms being at overcapacity. For Christ's sake just build some additional rooms already then so we don't have to live in this nightmare anymore. You've had 18 months now. All the billions and billions of dollars spent already on CERB and everything else, why haven't they taken a small fraction of that and tripled or quadrupled the ICU supply in every province and territory? I don't get it.... End rant.

    Marco Bustos

I'm glad that Bustos is doing really well at Pacific. I really wish that Robinson had seen fit to use him in his proper position when he was breaking through with the 'Caps. He should have been serving as Morales' apprentice. However, Robbo only saw a smaller, attacking player and automatically thought, 'he's a winger.' That being said, I'm not in favour of the 'Caps bringing him back in purely on the basis that Kam Habibullah plays a similar game, but has way more upside. I'd rather Bustos get a shot somewhere else and Kam gets the minutes in Vancouver.

  20. 7 of the players who started against us in Chicago will not be in Haiti’s squad tonight (COVID: Nazon, Durveger, Pierrot, Alceus - INJURED: Saba, Bazile - Domestic Club Pre-Season: Simoesen) Deedson and Geffrard who were on the bench are also out due to COVID.

    Dieu-Merci Michel

Played the first half in match in the “Future of Football Cup” against Jong PSV wearing #9. Full match: He drew a penalty at the 45:00 mark and at 47:11 makes a nice interception and then a nice move before having his shot deflected and the ball hitting inwards off the post. He is very tall compared to the rest of the players out there and won tons of aerial balls and had some headers fly over the bar.

  23. Ferrin played for DC in a friendly against a team from El Salvador last night. It looks to be mainly all callups from Loudon with the odd DC player. Anyway he came on as a second half sub and scored the only goal on a really nice shot.

    Gold Cup 2021

Smallest crowd for a Mexico game I've seen in a while. The storm didn't help but I think it has a lot to do with them playing all 3 group games in the same city. You can only tap the well so many times before it runs dry. Fans don't have bottomless cash and time for all 3 games. Obviously the schedule was drawn up with covid restrictions in mind, however it helps explain why the Gold Cup normally resembles a traveling circus going from city to city for "one night only" events to avoid market saturation.

    Tajon Buchanan

Tajons ceiling is more then likely above Liga MX, but more Canadians in the league would be great for the program. You don’t see too many players move from Liga MX to top 5 Euro leagues because the majority of Mexican National players in the league are very comfortable with staying in Mexico, the league pays great and has a good skill level, dominating the region. Any player with the quality to play regularly in that league is capable of top Euro leagues.

  34. It isn’t just about the money required to build ICUs. As other have noted you need to staff them - which has a pretty substantial lag (and can’t be quickly back filled in the event of a widespread outbreak. But more importantly, it is also about preventing the human impacts that occur when you need more ICUs. Reducing it to an economic argument ignores the fact that those extra ICUs would be needed to house real people that are extremely ill with a potentially life threatening illness. You can’t forgo measures that hep prevent cancer on the basis that you can just dig more graves (and I recognize this takes the argument to the extreme but it isn’t categorically different). [and if that argument is too extreme to be convincing, replace “dig more graves” with “build more chemo units” and you have a much more analogous argument]

Assume that is similar to other streaming platforms where you can view things like team sheets and stats while you are watching the game? They must be getting a new hosting server and platform if that's that case, right? Seemed like they tried to add the rewind live streams feature but that was the day all their streams crashed and I never saw it again lol. Hopefully they stop cheaping out and get their shit together in terms or people organising their schedule etc. It is worth the investment with the amount of people that are now starting to get exposed to the platform. Imo.

I really dont have a problem with players playing on a lower standing team in a top 4 league. Cav would still have to raise and sharpen his game in La Liga and I think he needs that challenge. Besides you just know he would relish playing vs Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico etc

  47. This is a very good question. Scott has been fortunate in his career so far. The German scout who recognized his talents is an incredible person who has helped to direct Scott through his climb from the 6th Bundesliga to the 2nd Bundesliga. My wife and I have met with the scout a number of times and we have a good relationship with him (and fortunately, my wife speaks German). Scott has always been treated fairly in his career and he's made a living playing soccer. When the scout was dealing with the trade from Klagenfurt to Regensburg, he brought in the assistance of a seasoned "agent" who he knew well and trusted. We did not meet the agent (but I have been able to learn about him and due to our trust and relationship with the scout, we are comfortable). The soccer "business systems/protocols" in Europe are well established and "values" are pretty well established. While I expect we will continue to be given some insight into this world, we are not of the view that we are competent to lead these kinds of discussions. Where we are competent (and we can add value and Scott wants our help) we will be happy to help. Otherwise, I expect we will remain a sounding board for Scott and we will continue to play the role of a "sober second thought" for Scott.
