    Liam Millar

Liam is 21 and turns 22 in September. Some may disagree with me but if he was loaned again to Charlton for a full season, crushed it and helped the team promoted that would be huge, and I would not think it is a BAD move. What's important is you would assume he would be given a huge leash with respect to playing time, which only helps us out as CMNT supporters. Sure "22 is old" most of the time but in his position and in my opinion, I do not think it is and there are countless exceptions to this age bracket. I still see a HUGE ceiling in the proper environment, playing time and development ie: finishing accuracy and/or slotting the ball into the net for goals instead of a blast etc etc. Obviously different players but similar example below: ie: Ollie Watkins turns 26 this year....when he was 20-22 he was in League Two, transferred to Championship when he was 22 turning 23, played 3 seasons in Championship and came to the BPL 25 turning 26. Liam should 100% keep the dream alive and I honestly think it is silly to right off this dream right now. I think big clubs are seeing this now and holding onto players a bit longer. He just needs to keep working hard, keep his head down and keep improving which from what it seems he 100% is doing. Anyways I'd like to see him in Championship but I am also 100% okay if he resigns a 1 year loan stint with Charlton. It's not easy coming in mid season and I think he would be a clear standout, which only helps his confidence, development and the CMNT. Exciting summer for the lad.

  2. I would like: Cavallini Larin-David-Davies Eustaquio-Atiba Adekugbe-Kennedy-Vitoria-Laryea Borjan David and Larin are great poachers, but they need someone else to create space for them. Larin had Aboubakar this year, and we've seen recently what Yilmaz has done for David. We have so much goalscoring firepower, but there's a scenario where we don't have anyone in that position without that pure #9 to make things difficult for their backline. A double pivot is always sorta susceptible to getting overwhelmed, but I just don't see that happening to Steph and Atiba... especially not vs Suriname's midfield that has to play out of position. I would love to get Osorio on, but it's not worth that risk up front. Kennedy-Vitoria still scares me with that potential for passing blunders, but otherwise, they compliment each other well. Should be dominant in the air, Kennedy's speed cancels out Vitoria's biggest flaw and he's still a set piece threat. They'd just better hand it over to Eustaquio every time they get possession!

  7. Didn't know where to put this but Neil Davidson has an article on De Ro's book and this passage made me laugh. Toronto FC and Canada Soccer will not like some passages of the book. De Rosario does not spare either, although he makes it clear that both have come a long way in recent years and are worlds ahead of where they were. "There's something special happening right now," he writes of the current Canadian men's team. "There's a hope and a belief among the national team that wasn't always there. (Coach) John Herdman deserves a lot of credit for that." It's a far cry from having to return Canadian jerseys at a national camp "because we're giving them to the youth team." Or the Sony gift card De Rosario got from Canada Soccer for his second Canadian Player of the Year award in 2006.

Calling on a little bit of Norwegian experience here/from some friends across the pond: the rumours are actually carry-over from January, when the Norwegian off-season transfer window opened. Rumoured bids from Rostov and Ferencvaros are reported at just under 3m NOK (comes out to ~400k CAD), with VIF also looking (apparently) to move on their backup fullback Felix Horn Myhre. Nettavisen (the outlet that apparently broke the news), who are fairly trustworthy when it comes to rumours, have also confirmed that Vålerenga have submitted an offer for Strømsgodset's 21yo Nico Mickelson, though none of the bids on either Sam, FHM or Mickelson have been accepted as of yet. As for the destination, both Rostov and Ferencvaros have been active in the Norwegian market in the last few years, with some of the other top clubs in Norway (Molde specifically) selling on players like Tokmac and Wingo - so definitely could be legs to the rumours. Reached out to a friend that follows Russian football to get some clarification on Rostov's LB/defence situation, yet to hear back though.

You can completely change the team and system just by dumping Ikone and Bamba. Theoretically valued at $33m and $27m!! I don't see how anyone pays that for them. Bring in Eustaquio and its a brand new team and system. Need to mention, I don't see how Lille would've won without Maignan and Yilmaz, their contributions were huge.

    Scott Arfield

2018-19 started 43 games and subbed on for 3 2019-20 started 39 games and subbed on for 10 2020-21 started 25 games and subbed on for 19 For two years he was basically an every game starter and now in his 3rd year he's coming on in the 2nd half to close out games roughly half the time. He's got a year left on his contract and I bet he signs an extension before that. I don't get the sense Arfield feels he needs to play every minute of every match at this stage of his career, so I don't see him wanting to leave Rangers for playing time elsewhere, nor do I see Rangers wanting to move on from Scott. I don't think Arfield is leaving Rangers anytime soon.

  17. I am a big Davies fan, but a lot of what he brings at LB is his two-way play. He didn’t get plaudits at Bayern because he was never beaten - it was his attacking skills (from LB) that generally got him praise. As a purely defensive LB, I am not sure he is that far ahead of the other options. I know he plays there for one of the biggest clubs in the world, but if keeping a clean sheet is your absolute top priority in this game, I am not sure it is a slam dunk argument to put Davies in at LB.

  18. Perhaps it is still too early to know, how will Suriname go from Paramaribo to Chicago? a charter? If it were a commercial flight, it would have to leave on June 5. As I found all flights from Paramaribo have 2-3 stopovers and the shortest lasts about 21 hours. Although they have an advantage of having one day off more than Canada, it would be exhausted in the middle of so many air stopovers. I hope it is a good advantage for you dear friends.

  21. Your definitely right about Osorio, forgot about him. But why must we try to convert guys into RBs? We got an adequate amount of RBs to not have to put Buchanan out of position - it’s so annoying. He had a good showing with the U23s, and gets rewarded with playing at RB - it just doesn’t make sense.

  24. I'm just frustrated that NHL teams have been allowed to continue playing across the country, and some CPL teams (just the Ontario ones maybe?) still aren't allowed to even train. There are just as many players on a hockey team, and no doubt NHL teams have more staff than CPL teams, and they are playing/training indoors which is riskier than outside. It's frustrating. But the CPL probably can't just bet on being able to play in home stadiums. It's probably safer to plan for a bubble to buy some time rather than waiting for authorization for just a bit longer, just a bit longer, just a bit longer, all summer long.

If Lille sells Soumaré, Maignan and Sanches they won't be gutted and they'll have 75 million to show for it. You can always pick up a fine keeper for under 10 million and their salaries are not usually high, I bet they have the best of the mid-table Ligue 1 teams scouted. Soumaré they say has promise but he certainly is not a key piece on the team. Sanches has been injured, has sat out, and frankly IMO is overpriced. For me Xeka has more ball skills. Estaquio would be an amazing fit for just over 5 million (heard it here). I don't think Galtier really values Yazici, though you need that sort of sub, and he's helped some games. Weah, objectively, has had a poor year, has not had critical minutes at all. And those two have market value as well. In fact, if they sold those five they'd be over 100million€ up and only have to sign a starting keeper and the rest subs. Edit: also need cover for Jose Fonte, for his age and to keep the back line strong.

It's not about rising revenues for MLS that will help it surpass ligaMX as most MLS owners are happy running a discount league. MLS needs to change their benchmarks of being a top league since it largely focuses on revenues, infrastructure, attendance etc.. but less on the quality of play. Given most MLS teams are not making profits so far, I can't see any rising tv revenues being deployed to materially increase player salaries. Plus, any increase in player spending has been mostly on attacking players with little allocated to depth, back line and goalkeepers. In contrast, ligaMX clubs have more complete and balanced line ups. According to Forbes techish like team valuations, 3 MLS teams are already more valuable than ligaMX clubs. But looking at payrolls, Monterrey is dishing out US$81m which is more than the 4 highest MLS team payrolls combined. Puebla's relatively lower payroll of US$22m is only slightly lower than TFC but higher than LA Galaxy. LigaMX payroll structure is in line with top football leagues that pay out 80%+ of their revenues for player salaries. This has been helped by no salary caps and having some owners who have unlimited funds. In contrast, MLS is following the North American pro sports league model of emphasizing the business side which means salaries account for much less of the revenues.

Well Besiktas lose and Galatasaray win 4-1 to go level on points and just 2 goals back on goal difference. Fenerbahce scored but ultimately lost, so they are pretty much done, as expected. Final match day will come down to the wire. Besiktas play 10th place Goztepe, while Galatasaray play Yeni Malatya, who sit in 14th. The only way Fenerbahce can win the title is if they win and Besiktas and Galatasaray lose.

Missed a goal right before half with a diving header about 6 yards out. Goalie made a fantastic save point blank but gotta think Larin has to put it anywhere besides right at the goalie and it was an easy goal. However, he just had a fantastic assist to the back post for a Ghezzal goal. Currently that proves to be a very pivotal goal in the title race. It looks as though Fenerbahce are going to lose today which means with another goal and the win, Besiktas will win the league given the head to head advantage over Galatasaray. Still 30 minutes to go though.

  33. Spot on. Davies has looked great at LB for Bayern because they typically have 80% of the possession. And his "defence" has been attributed to his ability to track back quickly/breaking any counters. However as we seen (I'll keep referring back to this as long as I see Davies mentioned for LB) in the nations league game against the US at BMO....when he has the freedom to create we are dangerous. When he's expected to attack from the back it leaves us with holes (against the USA at Exploria) that get exploited, because we aren't a team that are going to have majority of the possession against the bigger opponent.

  34. Turkey Larin starting up top for Besiktas in a must win game. Currently down 1-0 right before half time. Galatasaray is up 2-0 and Fenerbahce just gave up a late goal in the 1st half. Galatasaray currently tied on points with Besiktas and Fenerbahce only 2 points behind. If Fenerbahce win, they will go ahead of Besiktas unless Besiktas can come back and win their game in the 2nd half. Update: Larin should have scored a header right before half time. Update: Larin with a beautiful assist to Ghezzal. Fenerbahce are now down 2-0. Updated Points: Besiktas - 81 Galatasaray - 81 Fenerbahce - 79

  35. I don't believe Herdman had used Larin as a 10 until the Bermuda match, but that's what we saw: The idea was to get Larin in the spots he was finding at Besiktas, but since the international break Larin has been playing and scoring at CF in the absence of Abubakar. I am curious to know how all the pieces are going to fit with David back in the fold.

He was a starter between the end of September up until the Motherwell game in December. Injury or not he lost his place, and has mostly substituted into games since. One thing Rangers lack at times is the runs he makes, no one else really makes those runs into the advanced spaces.

  38. Arfield in midfield isn't a guarantee for me anymore. He hasn't been playing, coming back from injury, and skipped out on the last set of matches. I can't say he's better than three guys I listed in the middle. Interesting enough, Wotherspoon is having a near identical season with stats in comparison to Arfield. Let's see if the gaffer sticks to his calling up guys based on form or if there is exceptions.

  40. Suriname beat them 6-0 and Bermuda beat them 5-0. I get what you are saying, and we may not break our new record, but I don’t see this as anything other than a comfortable win. I don’t see it being a reserve team insofar as we will want to continue to build chemistry. I am sure we will be under specific orders not to take any silly risks, and anyone carrying any sort of a knock will likely start on the bench, but I see us fielding a generally full strength team. We need to make sure we are fully integrated and familiar by the time we play Suriname - and hopefully Haiti.

Around 6/7 speakers via pre-recorded videos from the Horse Racing community- a couple there on phone for any follow up questions. - First video started by saying this would affect hundreds of people. - Horse Racing community highlighted and displayed on screen parts of the lease agreement with PL and the City claiming Prairieland has a commitment to the Race Track and cannot make any alterations to the grandstand not to do with Horse racing. They said changing those terms would need an amendment and show favouritism to Prairieland and that they don't support Horse Racing and its culture/traditions. - One speaker in her video asked all councillors to unmute speak up and confirm intent if they wouldn't support horse racing. - One speaker showed emails saying Prairieland had not responded and didn't give the horseracing community a chance. He said Pan-Am wanted to buy it (a claim Mark Regier literally laughed off on CKOM radio and said was absolutely untrue). - One speaker spoke at length about the youth movement in horse racing thriving, that there was nowhere else in Saskatoon for kids to see horses (yes). Also said that Prairieland provided great facilities/stadium but maybe not other support. Later talked about financial support and said Prairieland maybe, maybe not but - One video said this was systematic racism shutting down the Horse Racing. - One video talked about how they wanted to set up programs with at risk kids, improve women in horse racing and several other initiatives. (They want to now? sorry I started writing this somewhat unbiased I swear). - They asked City to take the land off PL and lease it to them. City Solicitors confirmed the following from questions from councillors after: - Those words shown are not binding in relationship to the entire document/agreement (assuming they have cherry picked those quotes without reading or understanding the whole document) there is an amendment that allows for changes at Prairieland. - There is nothing Prairieland has done that breaks the lease agreement or is wrong. Prairieland has broken no zoning laws or tax laws. If the City was to take some type of measure like the Horse Racing people are asking for they would be in breach of contract and liable in court/arbitration - Said to councillors and guests: City council cannot dictate or get involved in business decisions to Prairieland (force to keep racing) but technical aspects/applications of the build will have to be approved by city council. They used the example of the last technical amendment being updating a kitchen onsite. (while this is a grey area this sounds like a basic planning permission application meeting specs). Essentially they can approve that everything meets code but can't make comment on the use. - The current lease agreement runs to 2044 (there is an auto renew option for further years after that iirc) The land is tied to that as above, breaking that agreement would leave the city liable. - The solicitor stated that it is possible the Soccer Stadium application might need a re-zoning application for that land. This wasn't a confirmation but stated as a possibility, the application hasn't been sent and city not formally approached yet by Living Sky and PL, so the solicitor can't say anything else.

  42. I'm sure others here will disagree with me on this, but I don't think this kind of urging is beneficial. Even if 80% of people have their first dose by Canada Day - which would be an incredible accomplishment -, it's still only 80% of people with their *first* dose. There have been plenty of recorded cases in Canada of people letting down their guard after their first shot and then ending up in the ICU. If the CPL tries to go straight to stadia for the entirety of a shortened season, I'd be worried we'd see yet another spike/wave this summer which could seriously gum up the gears. I'd much rather see a bubble to start and take the time to move to stadia when it's safe to do so.

Why Chicago is a good option: 1. Much cooler/colder than Florida. June temps at night are about 13 c. Good for Canada 2. Florida to Chicago on a charter flight is about 2.5 hours. Suriname to Chicago (assuming no Charter) is around 16 hrs with at least one lay over 3. if there are any fans, most likely they will be for Canada 4.Good stadium and base for the next round of games assuming we win. 49. Apologies, I meant that we don't win, not they win, 30-40% of the time. While Davies is definitely the best player on either side, I think Donk and Bisewar are 2 of the next 3. It's just hard for me to see us as heavy favorites when they probably have one of the best center backs in CONCACAF, while our backline is just full yikes. Like, their defense is just a lot better. Our depth should win out, because we're not gonna be fielding anyone from the Surinamese league. There are obviously better teams than them, but Suriname is probably on the same level as Panama, and Panama qualified for the World Cup last time around. If European players are prohibited, then there's not much to worry about, no.
