  1. As someone who attended every Pacific game, as well as countless games at Clarke in Edmonton and other smaller venues before then, I can assure you that Westhills numbers did not feel greatly inflated. No matter how many times you bring this up

Interview with Michele Paolucci of FC Manitoba from today (google translate) "Now all the owners of the club are organizing to create a new independent league in Canada and we are therefore committed to the development and planning of this league. This year we will start with a sort of tournament, around Canada that will serve us to attract sponsors and our forecast is to start in 2022 to start with a real season , starting from scratch. 6. Not to be a douche, but this is what WIKI defines it as. But its like the goof ball ESPN talking heads trying to define what an "elite" quarterback is. golden generation or golden team is an exceptionally gifted group of players of similar age, whose achievements reach or are expected to reach a level of success beyond that which their team had previously achieved.
    4 points
  7. i despise the "golden generation" label... its misleading, because as talented as the current group is, they have yet to accomplish anything to warrant that label, and until they do, they are not a "golden" generation.

Does playing games in Florida in June really help us vs guys from the Caribbean/Central America? All our EU based guys don't play games in 35c before factoring humidity. I feel this is a pretty major disadvantage.

He played very well today against Braga; made a nice run and almost scored in the second half. Dominant in his tackling today, and with Costa out, he came further up the pitch and drove everyone forward. Great to see him and Pacos back in form.

I don’t think there’s been any suggestion that they would leave Starlight. RAP would be used for special one off events for Pacific and potentially the national team. At least to start. An opportunity to connect with the downtown core and hopefully attract new fans. Burying the power lines in Langford sounds expensive. I don’t think it happens without more pressure and more support

Royal Athletic Park is much more central. Maybe they are hoping they can draw much larger crowds there.

  14. South America Juan Cordova has the start at RB for Huachipato against Rosario Central from Argentina. Huachipato just scored to go up 1-0 about 30 minutes in 35 minutes in. Rosario down a man after a red card in the 9th minute. Cordova has been one of the best players out there again today so far.

Hate to correct this, but he's in second/tied for first. Andrew Shinnie is rated ahead because he has 1 more goal then Liam, but also has played two more games then him. In addition to that stat, it's the chances created that also excites me. That's where he leads! I think in reference to the national team, I want all our wingers to be able to create chance first for Larin, David, Cavillini before being goal scorers. Because as we can see, we have a guy who can create these chances effortlessly and we have guys who can put them away. Very great loan for Liam....next up is a team in the Championship!

  16. The problem with that RAP scheme is that it is makeshift, like too many of our stadium concepts for CPL. Even the way of setting up the stands is a bit improvised. Even Saskatoon it looks like they are scratching away at ideas. Just one 8-10,000 capacity stadium with curved corners and a covered main stand--is that so hard?

  21. Raheem Edwards played 66 minutes last night with Las Vegas Lights, the USLC affiliate team of LAFC. He had made two sub appearances for LAFC. "LAFC announced today that the Club has loaned Bryce Duke, Raheem Edwards, Tony Leone, Danny Musovski, Alvaro Quezada, Christian Torres, Tomas Romero and Cal Jennings to Las Vegas Lights FC for their match today, May 5 at LA Galaxy II at 7:30 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. LAFC retains the right to recall these players from loan during the MLS regular season, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines."

  22. I think, dumbly, I did not save the pdf. Anyone else get it? The key idea, apart from running the field sideways, was that the stadium would be conceived for big matches, overflow crowds, Voyageur Cup, other major soccer events, etc. They left the Vic West and Rob Friend's emails, and called for public support. Although they cite Westhills (ignoring the name change) as their main ground, it certainly seems this is a move either to pressure Langford, invite Victoria to host them, or both. I would not be surprised if they have some disagreement with the mayor of Langford, as the guy is not the most up and up person, and a lot of his decision making is ambitious but sloppy. Residential development in that town is amongst the worst I have seen anywhere.

In other news, Pacos' coach is apparently switching over to VSG next season, who have traditionally been in the Braga tier of the Portuguese league. Mauro made a comment in an interview that Stephen would go wherever Pepa (the coach) does, so maybe throw them into the transfer discussion.

Here are the stats. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/teams/charlton-athletic/top-scorers He leads the team in assists despite having played just over half a season. He has 2 goals which should be more, agreed. He has shots, puts them on net, but does not score. Needs to finish better or with more accuracy, even a slight improvement, saying having scored a couple more, would be significant on the stat sheet. It is also worth rethinking finishing in cases like his. There are days Messi just passes the ball firmly into the corner of the net. Higuain in his prime was very accurate picking corners. Anxiety or inexperience sees some players trying to blast it when given a chance, and if they are not succeeding, this should be rethought: pass that ball firmly into the corner of the net, done. Still think it is a very fine loan stint.

I suspect if he plays another year and maintains his level and we qualify for 2022, you gotta expect he plays another to be in the World Cup
    2 points
  26. Honestly, I don’t know why he wouldn’t. Now, it may hurt like hell to play at that level that often, but his performance doesn’t suggest any deterioration of ability whatsoever. Hell, he is having an amazing year for them. The club would be crazy not to keep giving him one year contracts as long as he can maintain this level of performance.

  27. Nobody is denying that. We are still the better team on paper. We are still the better ranked team. We have shown we are the better team on the field. It's been mentioned in the Jamaican thread, about all their incoming players/ and not having chemistry. Same can be said here, but worst. All of our guys have had a few years of playing with each other, and knowing the coaches "system". It's not arrogance or ignorance. We just need to eliminate the defeatist mentality. Same thing OZ was trying to mention. Call me overconfident, but I see a convincing win happening. As long as we have our key guys available.

  28. Yea not me. Our team is the one to be feared. They haven't added any world class players, or champions from top leagues. No top scorers in the eredivise. If we are getting worried about Surname, than we have no place in the Octo - they will be our meat and drink next month.

  31. I'm still working on the design. Something along the lines of a full back tat of a giant heart with his face and mine and BFF below it. I originally had added Honduras Sucks! on there too but my wife said that was a bridge too far, so I've got to redesign it.

  34. This crop definitely has the potential to be a 'golden generation' (the definition above is a pretty good one I'd say). If they do reach heights that we haven't seen in a while, it will be interesting to see if this was a golden generation, or the start of the new normal.

  41. I definitely think if they quality this generation will get a goal and likely more. The question will be whether they keep many out. Whereas in 86, it was 2-0s and 1-0, its more likely to be 4-1 or 3-1 or 4-2.

^^^ Boooo..😉 Indy attracts the higher quality MLS fringe guys and prob has the one of the higher payrolls in USL-C. He went from getting 4 goals in 7 starts with TFC just 2 summers ago, the guy prob should be on an MLS roster somewhere. But playing on one of the bigger USL-C teams making decent money and getting a starters work load isnt too shabby. If he kills it with Indy, he might get right back up to MLS. He just turned 25..time to live up to his potential.

  44. Atiba is interested in playing for another year! "Frankly, I am thinking of playing for another year. I feel good. I will discuss this with the club at the end of the season. I still feel the strength to be on the field and to fight." https://www.sporx.com/futbol/ekstra/atiba-hutchinson-a-galatasaray-sorusuSXGLQ52117SXQ ---- A reminder that their next match on Saturday vs Galatasaray is massive. If they draw or win they would be guaranteed to be in the top 2 (Champions League qualifiers) as the first tie break is head-to-head. If they win their match and Fenerbahçe draw or lose their match vs Ankaragücü then Beşiktaş would be champions. Ankaragücü might give Fenerbahçe a hard time as they will be desperate to grab points and avoid relegation.

  46. I don’t think we should fear them necessarily, but they will be a tough opposition. They’re a better team on paper than some other teams that will qualify for the Ocho. Obviously the game isn’t played on paper, but I’m just saying, they aren’t some minnow that can’t beat us (or almost any CONCACAF team) in a one off.

    2 Years Ago Today...

Here's a thought for a Tuesday morning. Two years on as it were. Looking back to the 2019 launch, all sort of Wild West as it was in a lot of ways, where would we be today if the CPL partnership hadn't gone all in but instead waited another year to try and get together a more perfect launch? We'd be repacing anxiety about what sort of season the league will have this year and when we can get our asses back into the grandstands with a project that died a COVID death. Ha! The gods love a lucky fool. Seems to me there is quite a gang of them over at CPL HQ.
