    The Road to Qatar.

Not sure about the formation (not my strong suit) but I doubt we just go 3 at the back with no other proper defenders I would rather see us use a formation that we are likely so see later on in qualifying so that the boys build more and more familiarity. Having said that, I would use this as an opportunity to give St Clair a start. We aren’t likely to get shelled by Aruba and we used the first 2 games to give Milan and Maxime a turn, so I would like to see Dayne given a shot (and what better game to try a new keeper). And as much as I respect Sammy’s contributions to date, I th

I think the issue for us is that after the first 3, the pickings get slim (granted the first 3 and especially the first 2 are pretty good). But that is why Akinola could fit in very well.

    Ayo Akinola

The USMNT's ultimate goal with Akinola is to keep him off our squad so we can't get better. With their depth I doubt they have plans to feature him or even call him up frequently. He should see that for himself or have others around him telling him that. With Canada he is likely to be called almost every time we play.

I like that for the match with Suriname, we will be arranging where it's played since it's our home match. Aruba gets to arrange our first match in June. Last month, they played their home match at IMG Academy in Bradenton. If they do the same thing again and go with IMG in June (assuming it can't be played in Aruba), that could work out incredibly well for us. We could arrange our home match against Suriname for IMG and we'd get to play the final 2 matches of the opening round in the exact same location. With potentially 4 matches in June, if there was an opportunity to have no travel be

Gotta keep ages in mind as well. Cav is 28 meaning one of our top 3 spots will inevitably open up in a few years. Not sure who else we have in the pipeline (Perruzza?) but Ayo would have a good chance of being in the mix for consistent call ups without a long wait - and that is ignoring the idea that he could outright displace Cav. Comparatively, the ages of the committed US players on that list are 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 21, 21, 24, 29, and 31. That is a lot of depth for a long time. Hell, if I was Herdman, I would be making a short PowerPoint presentation and having a zoom

    Keeper depth chart?

fair enough about Thomas. I just imagine that in dire needs he’d get the call over a young keeper who’s never been in a senior camp. Although I don’t truly think we’ll ever be that desperate to call so far down the depth chart. The CPL sentiment was more so comparing to the Serie D keepers who have never been to a camp being listed above guys like Carducci, Irving, Oxner. I’m not suggesting they deserve a call up just because of their allegiance to a CPL club, but this forum has an affinity with players in Europe at levels of play they’ve never even watched. I’m pretty conf

You have to look at each individual. Tajon is a guy who moved to Colorado with a coach at 16 years old and faced adversity early on. I wouldn't worry about him moving to Sporting even with the language barrier.

Exact opposite out here. It's three down craddle to grave. Unless things have changed in the last decade (kids are all grown up) it was three down at all minor levels. NFL very popular out here as well. Don't know anyone who's strictly a CFL fan.

I think Ayo has the potential to at least be as good as Cavallini in his prime, or perhaps start pushing him before then. I compare the two because they are the two more similar ones, while Larin and David can take on different roles.

I'll play. General thoughts. On the one hand....we've been hearing the CFL business model hasen't worked in Ontario for what now? 40 years? Say this or say that, it's still here and the TV numbers in Ontario are still strong. Guess the dinosaurs must be hanging in there. On the other hand....If the NFL ever grows CLF sized balls and expands into Toronto, and they won't because whoever would do that is going to have to pay every last cent to build a $500,000,000 dollar stadium to do so, that would finally kill the CFL in that city. And while a lot of Toronto won't care about that

How will ending the Canadian player quota in a merged league help "smooth the path" to an eventual NFL team in the GTA? I doubt the CFL's player quota has any effect one way or another on whether the GTA gets a NFL franchise.

Agreed. Im not concerned, I rather him rest than jeopardize his career for a game against Aruba. Maybe if he doesn’t come for WCQ, he can attend the GC as the silver lining. Im comfortable knowing that we can use either Cyle or Lucas in the 9 spot. As I prefer Davies, Millar, Corbeanu, Buchanan or Hoilett as the wide options in the 4-3-3 setup that we are “supposed” to play. At this point, I’m only concerned if we don’t have Davies - he’s our everything.

    Keeper depth chart?

I completely understand what you are saying nolando about not feeling comfortable, those of us who have been long time MNT supporters have seen things go terribly wrong! I just think in this position however we should be ok, even if we had to start our 3rd or possibly 4th choice keeper, I would be quite comfortable with St. Clair or Leutwiler between the sticks if it came down to it, heck St. Clair could be our #1 in the not too distant future!

Yes, and the question was "How long before CPL catches up and surpasses CFL". The CPL is not MLS. The CFL was already dying in those 3 markets (or at least Toronto and Vancouver) and MLS's arrival might have accelerated that. The CPL's primary markets are all located in markets that are much, much stronger for the CFL. Also, I hope that the CFL stays. There's no reason all the leagues can't co-exist, and the demise of the CFL would be incredibly disappointing.

I would say that Pantemis is definitely ahead of Breza. Both made the u24 squad and Pantemis was the undisputed starter. That doesn’t mean that Breza will never surpass him but right now given the evidence, Pantemis is clearly higher on the GK depth chart IMHO.

They should absolutely expect to qualify, but this just stinks of insecurity masked by overcompensation. This is the kind of thing rubs me the wrong way. A real big country in this game would not do that. They are still wannabes. Honduras and Costa Rica can still pose a threat, while Jamaica are stronger on paper than last cycle. We can also cause problems if we make it to the final round, which hasn't even begun yet, so why are they discussing who'll be on the plane to Qatar? Nothing is guaranteed. This kind of thing can bite them in the butt, because the pressure is going to

Here's my nightmare scenario: Health Canada refuses to let Canada host. Haiti is prevented from hosting due to safety concerns. Both legs thus take place at a neutral venue, but here's the twist: Since neither team is home or away, aggregate becomes meaningless, so they reduce it to a single elimination. Single elimination against Haiti scares me.

I don't get it. How do any of those Jamaican callups have a much stronger connection than Arfield or Wotherspoon or Sturing?. They are all in the same category FFS. None have stepped foot in the respective countries prior to their first home game. And please don't add Estaquio to that group. He was born here and lived here until he was 7 or 8. Even DeJong, Gutierrez, Johnson were all born here and lived here for a spell. And what's with adding Ferreira and Vitoria? Two guys born and raised here until they left to play soccer in Portugal at 16/17? Seriously? Look, I am
