Guys, it is fun to spell this out. There was a very big game today. Mbappe, Neymar, di Maria, and David all entered the field. Only one of those players left with a goal, and got the 3 points for the win to boot. That's Canada's 2nd best player against Brazil and France's best players, and an important player for Argentina. That's what happened today.

Just gonna toss this out there..... You would be hard pressed to find any Lille fan out there, especially this evening, that says the David transfer was a disappointment. If Lille hold onto the title David's goal will go down in Lille sports history as one of the greatest moments in the club history. On a side note, my wife usually says it's how you finish that matters most, not how you start.

He’s the 7th player 21 or younger to reach 10 goals in a top 5 league, I call that pretty good 🤷🏼‍♂️

Whatever way you want to spin it. I’ll spin it another way. He leads Ligue 1 in goals since the new year. So he’s the most in form striker in France for the last 3 months. And honestly, if he took penalties, and didn’t get screwed out of a couple goals, he’d have 15/16 goals, with 7 to go. With the way that team plays, that’s pretty impressive actually.

If you think David’s current strike rate with Lille is disappointing, then you must be down right embarrassed by the strike rate of literally any current American in a top 5 league 😬 the striker who tops your depth chart, Sargent, has 11 goals in 61 games 😬

Don't forget the 2 "own goals" he didn't get credit for which were highly debatable, the 2 goals called back because his shirt was too loose and a sleeve blew in the wind ahead of the defender (again both highly debatable), and the 3 or 4 penalties he won for others to score on. He missed a penalty as well. Maybe he didn't lead Ligue 1 in scoring, but I think his year was pretty good after an admittedly poor start.

Not talking to any one of the above posters in particular, but I think there is a lesson in here somewhere for those "play friendlies at all costs" people. Friendlies are good, but there can be knock on effects like this that might have more longer term negatives. Imagine that hypothetically Millar lost his place in the team and his replacement went on a tear. He could get stuck to the bench for a bit. Now this was WCQ, so the risk is worth it, in my opinion, but imagine it was a friendly against TnT or something. An argument could be made that due to our depth, having key players l

The season isn’t over yet. There are still 7 matches to be played. I think he has a good chance at ending up with 12+ goals and being the leading scorer for the league winners. I wouldn’t be disappointed at all with that

Well he walked off on his own steam, so hopefully he will be fit again by next weekend. What that guy did to him was far worse than what Davies was given a red & another two game suspension for, and this guy gets off with just a yellow.

They broke the bank because he’s a young promising player with big potential. They were not expecting 20+ goals.. 10-15 goals is a pretty good first season to build on. I’m not disappointed at all especially if you consider the style that Lille have played all season.

Just checked and he has 9 in serie A.. so not even. and wow if David is having a poor season what do we say about Sargent and Weah? Two projected starters for the US.. David has more league goals than the two combined. A record signing leading his team in goals, winning goals and to the top of the league. You can’t spin that as disappointing.

Are there any? And we’re talking about a 21 year old. A guy who has potted 6(?) winners for a table topping side. A player who should rightly have 12+ goals and that’s after a rough start.

Season hasn’t ended yet. If he ends on 10 goals, saying his season was slightly disappointing would be something I could accept, although when you consider how late he joined the team, how unfit he was when he joined, and the fact he had to adjust to a different role, and struggled to do so, then yeah I would personally be satisfied with 10 goals. Like I said though, season is not over. I think 12 goals would be a healthy enough return for his debut season, rough start or not. There aren’t many CONCACAF forwards who have scored more in a top 5 league this season.

The irony of posting this during a game where David’s lone goal could have just won Lille the title is pretty hilarious. Of course we all wish he had a better start to the campaign. But at least some of that comes from his teammates who have tended to be very selfish with the ball. As this has improved, so has David’s output. And the way he has impacted Lille’s fortunes cannot be debated. His multiple crucial game winning goals cannot be debated. Record signing or not, he was a 20 year old kid who had a ton of weight on his shoulders and had to play a new role in a new team in a

Eh a football career moves fast and he is in that sweet spot regarding his age. If he was 22, sure.. but I don’t think you pass up on an opportunity like this because it may not transpire again. He’s also made it clear his goal is to play at the highest level possible. I’m all for him testing himself and if it goes awry, there’s no reason he can’t move back down a level. Happens all the time.

    Keeper depth chart?

I have Breza pretty firmly lower... he's 4th at Bologna, and I think he'll be 3rd in Montreal. I wouldn't remove Leutwiler, because he's still likely to get a few more calls as a 3rd option imo.

  41. I’m sure they could beat Panama with those guys but it’s too late for that. I agree it can be a domino effect but it’s hard to get the first domino to fall. Why would any of them want to fly across the ocean to play in these competitions? Are any of them born in Barbados or have a serious connection to them? It’s difficult to convince players with tenuous ties to join up. We wouldn’t have convinced Arfield to join if we didn’t have a foundation of solid/promising players already. We could sell the dream of a World Cup. That’s a tough sell for Barbados right now.

It's actually 10 goals, plus 3 own-goals caused, plus 3 PK's he's drawn for other players to score, plus one primary assist. Which is a pretty healthy percentage of the number of goals he's directly produced for the team overall. That would only be a little disappointing if one was foolish enough to expect him for some reason to be blasting in 20-25 goals for a team that plays very defensively and for whom half the players still don't know when to pass the ball (not a surprise that Lille won without their worst culprit in recent weeks in that regard, Araujo, not taking the field), and despite

I forgot about that Warshaw anecdote. Thinking back, it was definitely Altidore's voice (IMO). As for the point about Black players' physiques, Altidore has always been described as "powerful", "athletic", etc. (which he is, of course, along with other good attributes), but he's noted that Black players are often described as such by (usually white) commentators even when other descriptors should/could also be used. It's coded language that he doesn't agree with and has advocated against, even though he himself is a specimen of a player. Think about how African teams are often portra
