San Vincent & the Grenadines and the British Virgin Islands decided to play their home games in Curacao. While Cuba will play its home games at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores stadium in Guatemala City. https://futbolcentroamerica.com/noticias/Eliminatorias-Concacaf--Guatemala-tendra-dos-partidos-de-visitantes-en-Curazao-20210212-0003.html

  6. If you’re offside and jump out of the way of a ball headed toward goal it’s offside. It’s black and white. You don’t need to be screening the keeper, you’re impairing his ability to stop the ball while you’re offside.

  7. Central American teams are always a problem because they have cohesion and play to win. Sum of all the parts and all that. We also really value English football so if someone plays in like League 1 it comes with certain credibility but English footballs values certain attributes that Central American players may not typically have. So yah I think just because we can't immediately identify these players we shouldn't sleep on them. I think Guatemala could be a sleeper this cycle

    Scott Arfield

Herdman has more or less confirmed that Scotty will only receive a call-up to the CMNT for the "big games". Herdman notes that it is a combination of his age, family issues, and wanting to win the title with Rangers. Safe to say, Scotty won't be playing Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/scott-arfield-reaches-rangers-canada-23475200

    CPL Stadiums 2021

We're talking outdoor stadiums for CPL, no reason at all for a bubble anymore and comparing to NHL or other indoor stadium sports isn't relevant. Just like the grocery stores or big box stores, social distancing and masks can be used and just like those places, whether in the stands sitting or going to the washrooms/concessions as long as clubs have the program/rules in place and staff to organize it 25-50% fan attendance should be allowed by all provinces. No more bubbles, no more fanless outdoor sports events.

  11. I thought I'd find this here, but no, so here we go: Cyle Larin came off the bench in the Turkish Cup m. 65, while Atiba started and subbed out m. 106, as they drew Konyaspor and had to make it through penalties to get into the next round, think that is semis. Larin did not take a penalty shot. And yes, Atiba went 106 minutes, beast!

  13. Perhaps the whole notion of what teams look like on paper is overrated? For example, the USA pool just got sexier with Mark McKenzie (Genk) and Brandon Aaronson (RB Salzburg) leaving MLS, but nothing has changed in reality, just perception. You'd expect them to get better with time, and I am sure they will, but the expectation would have been the same had they stayed with Philadelphia. Diego Rossi is expected to improve every season with LAFC, and he has done so without a European move. Switching to a European club doesn't magically make you a better player the moment you touchdown there. Sometimes we get a little too caught up in it. I know I do. Then reality smacks us in the face when we lose to a Honduras or a Haiti, teams we should beat on paper.

  15. It’s tough to say how they will be, because some teams punch above their weight based on what they look like on paper. Carlos Ruiz (Guatemala) killed us back in the day but he didn’t play in a big European league. I feel like this is the case with Central American teams. They have a huge home field advantage, cohesion and style of play come into factor too. Now will Suriname who has very little national team success to lean on know what to do when they need to do it? The Central American teams (who appear to have less talent) do.

If/when Atletico actually play games in Ottawa, I mega hope Jeff Hunt doesn't just assume that everyone loves everything about TD Place Stadium just the way it is because ppl like going to Red Blacks games. I sincerely hope he appreciates that there is more that can be iterated on so that the likely crowds of 5-9k feel different than just "well let's just fill the lower bowl on one side". My best times at Fury games were when they experimented with more beer garden type vibes behind the goals and actually tried something a little different. I hope that Atletico brings a thought out and improved Ottawa gameday experience instead of just a change of jerseys on the Fury gameday experience while letting a supporters group or two back into a section in the corner.

  20. With today's news of Royal Sélect Beauport entering both men's and women's teams into PLSQ for 2021, I figured I'd start a thread. Both divisions now have 10 teams as follows: Men's Division A.S. Blainville Celtix du Haut-Richelieu CS Fabrose CS Longueuil CS Mont-Royal Outremont CS Monteuil CS St-Hubert FC Lanaudière Ottawa South United Royal Sélect Beauport Women's Division A.S. Blainville AS Pierrefonds Celtix du Haut-Richelieu CS Fabrose CS Longueuil CS Mont-Royal Outremont CS Monteuil CS St-Hubert Ottawa South United Royal Sélect Beauport Nice to see a perennial Challenge Trophy contender in Royal Sélect Beauport elevate themselves to Div III status.

To switch the cameras to the other side would allow for a slight rise in height (the stands are not much higher than the platforms) but come with some pretty bad consequences: showing the side without permanent stands on TV makes it look like very few people are at the game currently that is standing room only as stands cannot be placed there so any people who are there, look like they are watching amateur games taking space in the current stands to mount camera positions takes away ticket sales in an already small stadium I see no significant benefit.

While you make a good point about Rangers, you left out the family and age part. My thing is what does "big games" constitute? And how is he hoping/planning to involve him in a team that (if he's not their in March) would have not seen him in almost two years.

  31. The keeper didn't even make an attempt on the ball because Lewandowski, who is offside, was there. The game at this level happens in split seconds.. the keeper is unable to realize that Lewandowski is offside and thus plays it safe and doesn't dive for the ball because for all he knows a deflection is about to happen. By the time the ball passes Lewandowski it's too late. Remove Lewandowski and it's a save, or at least an attempt at a save. The strike wasn't a sure goal that a keeper ordinarily doesn't even move for.

  35. I have seen enough 'elite' officiating teams make so many elementary mistakes in applying the Laws of the Game over the past 18 months that I wouldn't recommend going down the path of thinking, "well, the pros interpreted it this way, so that must be the way it is." The decision on the Kimmich 'goal' was a straight up error in the application of Law 11 and the current guidance around the interpretations of the law.

  36. So, Pantemis > Breza due to 270 "better" minutes in MLS? So we don't count Breza's 2190 "better" minutes in Serie C vs USL/CPL? Sorry dude, I don't see it. Even counting Pantemis' less than convincing MLS minutes when Diop was out of the country. The rest of the resumes lean sharply towards Breza's camp. I just don't see how one compares USL/CPL to Serie C. I look forward to that day, but it's not the case now. This coming from a hopeful fan of Pantemis, looking forward to the day he wins the CFM starting role.

  42. I'm not worried about this team, nor any team other than USA, and Mexico. While the gap may still be massive between those nations, I'm actually excited that the entire Concacaf gap is getting better, regardless of where these guys coming from their diaspora. This is a good thing for our region.

  44. We should win I don’t think it’s so simple. Of course, we should win but this group will likely come down to one match at the end with Suriname and anything can happen in one match. All it takes is a bad 15 minutes, a mistake or two at the back, and being unlucky at the other end and we are out. This is even heightened as we haven’t played for well over a year. Frankly, the group stage worries me much more than a two leg playoff against a Haiti as while I think they could beat us in one match as happened in the Gold Cup, I think the odds of that happening over two legs is very low in my opinion. And this is not about Mexico or Honduras, it’s about the fluke of one match where the side we are playing is half decent. I actually think if we get to the Octagon, we will do well (not saying we will qualify) as over 14 matches I think our talent comes through. We probably will still have a stinker or two in there but that can be compensated by the other 12 or 13 but it doesn’t work that way in a single elimination match which it likely will be with Suriname. If you have a stinker or are unlucky, you are out.

  45. Well everyone already knows! I know very little but it just seems like its the jilted ex/spurned cpl lover with an agenda try to push journalistic comments and statements disguised as "news the public deserves to hear" with "my duty platitudes". In this case is he passing information from players that desperately felt this needed uncovering or he has directly asked players to dig for this type of story and reaction. While the media should be there to ask questions and push for positive change in society, for a league not just in its infancy but the pandemic thrown at them in year two, do we really need people crusading for petty truth, spreading mistrust and undermining the CPL that could damage and threaten its existence before its really got started? This league is going to take 5-10 years to stand on its own feet and hopefully to grow to a point that the cap can be raised along with players wages. We needs some realism and acceptance imo with the expectations of the league. There are always going to be things the league can do better but they have done a tremendous job imo, including advancing the league during the pandemic and raising the standard. Looking at this seasons signings so far, it looks like the bar will be raised again. Maybe I am reading the situation completely wrong.

  46. As a TFC fan and season ticket holder for the first 12 years, I was lucky to watch every game in person or on TV. I take Laryea over Auro any day. I think Auro is a good player, but I never got that "best RB in MLS" BS. As for ZBG and Johnston, it is definitely close enough in my opinion that I would have no trouble with our current depth. Again, appreciate the tatt and willingness to play for Canada, but i'm not going to rue this one. Tomori and Cristante, I will rue.

  47. I am glad Auro enjoys life in Canada enough to get a tatoo of our flag, it seems a bit of a stretch for him to be eligible for us, I don't seem to rate him as high as some of you, I much prefer Laryea at RB for TFC!

    CPL Stadiums 2021

I think the CPL needs all its teams to play in smaller stadiums for now , with all due respect to the Valours and Forges of the world playing in full smaller stadiums like in Calgary , Halifax and in Victoria watching a game from a packed Halifax stadium just gives the TV viewer a better look than watch from an empty stadium in Hamilton, Winnipeg and Ottawa . It just gives it that this is the place to be feeling , when watching a game from a packed stadium where Cavalry for example play. I’m hoping York United renovated stadium looks even more intimate with the new renovations , if they for example can start packing them in eventually that will be a nice place to watch a game .
