If the people that paid 35 million for him want him to score goals, they might want to set up their team to get him the ball in goal scoring positions.

  2. At this point, Guus Hiddink is in his mid-70s and has been on a downward spiral, career-wise, for the last 10 years. If we were being linked with him right now for a hypothetical CMNT managerial vacancy, would anybody other than those dazzled by his name be enthusiastic about it?

The new assistant coach has been behind Curaçao rise between 2016-2020, no? He has better insight in Caribbean Football as well. You never get too much help in my opinion

Watching the game with my dad who has way less knowledge of the context except David playing for Lille but he knows his football... His reaction.... "Why are they constantly trying to dribble themselves in or out of everything?"

  5. I completely agree this is the future and from what I have seen from Herdman is that he is really forward looking, incorporates psychology, is a great recruiter and has built an excellent team culture. All of these are extremely important elements for a national team manager. And as for results, we comprehensively played the US off the park and got our first win against them on our home pitch in years. This was largely down to his tactics in that match where he had Davies and David up front and a box in midfield behind them. No other Canadian manager has ever done that in a competitive matc

A very respectable debut. Was the best player for Charlton in the first half. A different keeper and he gets a goal. Worked very hard both ways, combined wel and was a threat every time he got the ball. I though had a very mature performance. Probably a little leg heavy in the 2nd half as that was a much higher tempo then u23s. very happy for him something to build on for sure....

  7. Hiddink 10 years ago maybe. Of course we would all be delighted if he was announced as Canada boss but looking beyond that I doubt the motivation is there. As mentioned he isnt a long term builder type of appointment. While the talent is in question the commitment and hunger of Herdman certainly isn't. Bicentini did a great job with Curacao and will bring a nice perspective to the team. Can't see anything negative about this appointment.

Look, I'm not averse to the odd Scottie Arfield or Tony Menezes situation, where we get a decent player with fairly tenuous connections to Canada. However, if half, or more, of the team were such players, I'd quickly lose interest in international football. I don't get why any fan of the Reggae Boys would want to cheer for an English 'D' team running around in yellow shirts, even if their grandfathers were born on Jamaica.

  9. I don’t have a grudge against Herdman, and while I will crack the occasional joke about about him I am not a hater. Having said that, I think it is disingenuous to portray criticism of him as solely caused by unjustified or outdated thinking. Despite regularly hearing about his modern psychological approach, we utterly collapsed in the GC game against Haiti - one of the biggest games of his tenure. And despite supposedly meticulous preparation, we looked utterly unprepared away to the US. And this all happened with the most talented squad we have had in a long time - and possibly

  10. Herdman is the first corporate exec quaility manager for Canada. He's done many company speaking engagements including for the one I work for about 5 years ago. He makes a very good impression as I still have non-soccer types at work who can still fondly recall seeing Herdman speak. So no surprise he did well presenting to Arsenal. Herdman is also the first to fully incorporate psychology into the prep of the men's team. Given his forward thinking, I hope he is also incorporating full analytics assessment of the players. Some on this forum have tended to poo poo these aspects of Herd

Ignorance is really bliss. Our captain never stepped foot in the country before he committed to the program, and we have all these rules. At least there captain was everything you guys are mentioning...played in the country, born in the country.etc. If you know the history of Jamaica and Jamaicans, you would understand how and why they are very prideful people. You would know that the diaspora whether in London, Toronto, New York, Florida, Atlanta is massive. You would know that although you are living in another country, or city, at home you are raised as a Jamaican - a lot of the

It's all up to him where he ends up, but so far he's impressed with the 2nd team and now has been a regular on the bench for 5/6 games in a row. Wolves are a respectable EPL team and Corbeanu is 18 years old. Nothing is guaranteed but they are obviously bullish on him based on their words and actions.

I agree that production for Millar is overdue, but I agree with @dyslexic nam too. It's 1 game in. Let's see where he is at 5 games in, 10 games in, etc. I have a good feeling about this loan. I wouldn't be surprised to see him score 4 or 5 goals in this half season loan. For me that's a reasonable target. Obviously we are wanting more and I am sure he is as well. Let's see what happens. I missed the match but it sounds like he's off to a positive start. The fact he started the match is very encouraging too!

  19. With a lot of dual nats on the list, the choice is really: 1) play a friendly without a lot of the guys you really want to see in live circumstances, if they even show up, or 2) play two scrimmages against the USMNT with those guys. I'm OK with 2. Especially since the atmosphere won't be different right now.

It's a question of what your point of pride is. If you want your national team to do well because that's a reflection of a successful development system, recruiting a dozen guys who have had zero participation in that system renders that moot, and makes international football less relevant. I'm not overly bothered when a guy like Tomori chooses to play for England over us. He's only technically Canadian, anyway. However, when guys like JDG2 jump, it actually does hurt, because whatever lies he tells about 'feeling Dutch', he's actually very much Canadian.

  26. Completely agree with this. I think a better way to understand it is to look at English born players who are making career sacrifices for far less glamorous Caribbean sides than Jamaica. At least with Jamaica there's a shot at the World Cup and some glory. But look at the guys playing Championship level football in England willing to sacrifice and play for Montserrat, St Kitts and various other sides with no real shot at doing anything. Nobody would do that unless it meant something in their heart to them and their families. Ultimately, I think it's a good thing for football in CONCA

  27. So we get a new assistant whose coaching experience includes some semi-pro/amateur teams and two small island nations yet he could prove to be a valuable addition since he has more senior men’s coaching experience than our current head coach. Somehow this doesn’t leave me with a warm, fuzzy feeling towards our coaching staff.

Yup I feel the same way, a few of these type of players who’s only connection to a country is a parent or a grandparent being born there is ok. However, stack a national team with players who basically in some cases never see foot there to me takes something away of what a national team is all about. There is something about knowing a national team player played at least some of his youth soccer growing up here in Canada and that whatever youth clubs a certain player might have played for can feel they played a certain part in the development of that player. I’m not against have a few play

  30. Hopefully that isn’t just a naive assumption on his part. Given the amount it time that has passed since our last viewable game, one would hope that the CSA would make some provision to at least stream it, but I doubt a relatively small number of die-hard fans are their top priority now.

  31. I think it was a pretty standard situation. Bring some of your more promising "youfs" in during the busy festive period (the reserves/Premier League 2 take a pretty decent break); see what they can do during training and use them for cover with often three games in a week (normally). Sometimes they get a run out in the cup but Wolves drew a tougher opponent than the odds would predict. Corbeanu was currently at lower end of the young players put on the bench by Wolves but worth remembering (as mentioned) he is 18 and got maybe one sub appearance in the Premier League 2 before this sea

  33. Even at the top of his career he never seemed to last anywhere more than a couple of years. He's not what we need, specially with regard to long-term plans for recruiting the duals, but the fact that a small country like Curacao can get him and we get their cast-off doesn't sit right. On the other hand Bicentini has had some success. Maybe he'll be a really valuable asset.

  36. there’s so much so wrong with this. He didn’t fail ? He started as a sub and became a starter ? And played 3 games at RB because NE needed him there. corbeanu’s wolves don’t have the depth that Liverpool does, and wolves isn’t 2 years removed from winning the Champions league. Also Corbeanu a year ago was behind Millar at the same age don’t kid yourself. as for Millar he’s actually very good offensively, it doesn’t take 10 viewings to see. Also, how many times can it be said that the guy is at Liverpool, it’s a top 5 club in the world.... it’s rare for kids to crack

The left side was the wild side today, great debut, nice to see him do well, while the right mid kept taking on the left back and couldn’t get a cross through. Also enjoyed his vision moving the ball across the field. He will keep building from here and already looks in a better place to develop.

Agreed. I think he was making up numbers for Wolves and getting a reward/closer look from the first team. A loan or going back to play for the u23s is likely on the cards. Very pleasing though that he has the eye of Nuno, I think his progress is going very well.

We could do something like this: -----------Cavallini------------ Hoilett------David-------Larin -------Arfield--Eustaquio----- Davies-Cornelius-Vitoria-Laryea -----------Borjan---------------- I'm not a massive fan of Davies at LB for Canada but if we're playing a side we're trying to break down in the first round this could be a great lineup. Tempted to even put Hutchinson at CB in this one.

We need our best 11 on the field, we just pull the old 0-4-6. Borjan just needs to make saves and hoof it up. Davies - Hoilett - Cavallini - Larin - David - Laryea .................Eustaquio - Hutch - Arfield - Kaye ..............................................Borjan
