I don’t think we should be hyping a u17 player. The transition to senior/ pro is significant. He might look great in his age group but unable to fully establish himself. I think there’s lots of Canadian academy players who we hype bc they get an opportunity somewhere and end up playing 4th or 5th division6 points -
and that's not going to change (even with Davies & David) until we start getting results on the field. It's time to bring it during WCQ.6 points

They stole him from us... like this is a kid who was literally born, raised and trained in Canada till he was what ? 13 or 14 ? He’s not being stolen it’s literally his home and his mother in Canadian, his friends are Canadian etc.3 points

They don’t have to undermine those friendlies. They are meaningless. Everyone should be ignoring them in my opinion.3 points

Yeah, that mister guy was banned, I think for bad mouthing the USA on literally (I literally mean literally) every comment he made. It was ridiculous. Like saying things like any human being with a Canadian passport is a better soccer player than any USMNT player. And he would say that out of nowhere in a match thread for Canada vs Belize. The Tim Weah comment may seem far fetched because David starts over him at Lille, but if the nationalities were reversed no doubt we would be pointing to Weah’s higher goal total in much, much, fewer minutes played.3 points

CPL General
Trois Reds and 2 others reacted to Ansem for a topic
My perception of USL-C is that outside of clubs "auditioning" for and MLS expansion... it's not great. MLS takes the top clubs and with MLS Next, the top young talents too. Making Canadians Internationals will just push more guys to join CPL. I read the same horror stories about USL pay and not covering health costs on top of that. I find CPL being the better league all around. USL should absolutely consider merging with NISA and NPSL (i think that's the acronym) and have pro/rel. Get it functional and potential apply for D1 status. I'm baffled by the lack of cooperation be3 points -

I feel like we're all doing some weird mental gymnastics to put Priso anywhere near Baldisimo, yeah. Whether it's just an injury, yet another dual-nat fiasco or Herdman just being closer with Vanney, it's hard to say.2 points
-
Only quoting this one because it was the latest to mention him, but the Priso hype train needs to come into the station for a bit. One of the main reasons Priso got time was because TFC had no one else on the bench with all the injuries they had. They were limping to the finish line when he started making appearances. To his credit, he didn't look out of place for an 18 year-old, but TFC had no choice but to play him. He may be good but he has a grand total of 158 professional minutes. I need to see more from him before I come to grips as to why he's there and Baldisimo isn't (barring2 points

Was there a computer chip put in everyone's head around the world that programs them to say Canada isn't going to the World Cup but they are hosting in 2026. When did it become impossible for people to put 30 seconds of thought in to what they're saying. I think Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo could commit to Canada and random would say... thats not a good idea, now they won't play in a World Cup2 points

Scott Arfield is the definition of Blood Guts and Thunder as Herdman says. Probably the only true no questions asked warrior the team has had it seems since Iain Hume (something about scots I guess?). It would be such an enormous shame to not have him be a part of this huge run of critical matches.2 points

Mine runs out at the end of January, and I'll renew it then. I know there are lots of little things to complain about, but it's actually not much money for a year's subscription, so I can't be too hardheaded about it. I'm not all that confident that a better replacement will appear if OneSoccer folds, so I feel like I need to chip in just to help keep it going. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed at the number of people here who refuse to pay the yearly subscription. If die-hard Canadian fans won't pay to keep our only streaming site afloat, then there isn't much hope for expanding to1 point

Questions WILL be asked if what is arguebly Canada's best known male soccer player is not at the Olympics (assuming we make it 😅). And as far as David, its well known that he is an investment for Lille, who hope to eventually move him to a bigger club and earn a profit on the transfer. The olympics could serve a purpose for them in order to further market their asset (specially if by then he continues to underperform). Silly to 100% rule anything out at this point.1 point

No new info but I love the headline from the Mexican press: "Canada wants to steal the Arsenal jewel from the Mexican National Team" https://www.eluniversal.com.mx/universal-deportes/futbol/canada-quiere-robarle-joya-del-arsenal-la-seleccion-mexicana1 point

The latest word from Arfield, which came in an article a month or two ago, was that it is up to the Canada manager if he plays for Canada again. Unless there has been new information since then, I assume he is in our plans.1 point

I will simply for the national and olympic stuff. Plus CPL of course. Not in a rush until some actual content is on there again. Also have zero trust they wont mess with the price after I get the year price and give a cheaper option. That said. If anything they are only likely to bump the price up like last year. The lesser the content the more raw a deal on subscription price we get.1 point -
The Importance of Alphonso Davies
Unnamed Trialist reacted to Aird25 for a topic
We have three or four pretty good wingers/wingbacks too, but we don’t have a surplus of CBs. So why play with additional CBs? Davies would be up top to stretch the line, advance the ball, press, ride the shoulder of the defender, create an outlet on the counter etc. Not to be a prototypical CF. He’s not as good in front of goal as many of our players, but he can create havoc with his speed and ability on the ball. Still, I don’t think that’s where he plays in most circumstances if we’re fielding our strongest lineup Tbh sometimes I’m surprised that a left side of Davies and Hoilett1 point -
But not all of us. Davies defers to his wingers/midfielders almost every time he’s isolated on the wing. Maybe it’s Bayern’s tactics but the run against Semedo is one of the few times I recall him taking a defender on from a deep stagnant position. He’ll just be double/triple teamed in that scenario with no overlapping run or wide support. We also lose our best defence against counter attacks. Its a poor use of our best player IMO. I’d rather see him as a true winger on the right or left side, or even in a strike partnership, than LWB. I prefer him as a LB in most scenarios though. Concacaf1 point

The Importance of Alphonso Davies
TGAA_Star reacted to Bertuzzi44 for a topic
I have two problems with Davies at LB for Canada: 1) He's one of our best attacking players, and having him farther up the field is a big danger to opposing sides. 2) Canada doesn't have world class CBs like Bayern Munich does to cover for him or otherwise support him. Heck, even having sweeper keeper extraordinaire Neuer back there helps. Therefore, Davies might have to do more defensive work than he has to at Bayern. Just put Davies in his original/natural position at LW and left him run amok against opposing defenses!1 point -
Michael Baldisimo
Northvansteve reacted to Dominic94 for a topic
Verhoeven isn’t a legit NT prospect at this point if we’re being honest, idk much abojt Paton but I’d imagine the case if the same. I would argue that Baldisimo is better than Fraser and Okello, but Okello has the higher if not highest ceiling. just because he’s not there doesn’t mean he’s in a dog fight. The guy has great feet and I’d take him ahead of Fraser.1 point -
I’d be stunned if Baldisimo was considering Philippines this early.1 point

Michael Baldisimo
Northvansteve reacted to PiedPilko for a topic
I'm worried about him, but I think I'll keep it here instead of throwing out more hot takes on the camp thread. I think Baldisimo is our best young midfielder in the MLS, and as controversial it apparently is, I think he's more promising than Fraser or Okello. I would agree that he has more work to do than perhaps any of our prospects if he ever wants to play at a higher level. He's obviously not a big guy, he's poor defensively and he'll lose out against physical players. But I don't think we have any prospect who does anything as well as what he's good at, that being1 point -

Future Champions League & CONCACAF League format
Bbeto reacted to Trois Reds for a topic
It would make sense that some don't send teams to the CCC. We're talking about a group of 30 Caribbean countries each without a professional league. Most of these islands federation's need CONCACAF's help to afford to play in the Nation's League and WC qualifying. Their amateur clubs definitely couldn't pay for a trip to another island for a two week competition, since their players probably all have regular jobs at home.1 point
