I mean - if he was a different nationality (ie American) we’d be saying the exact same thing. he hasn’t lived up to expectations - that’s the bottom line. And much of that has been self inflicted.

He’s not a scoring right now but Lille are still better with him on the pitch. Their record shows that. He was given clear instructions yesterday to press, stretch the defence and get in behind. In 30 minutes he nabbed the ball in and around the box twice creating half chances, and would have been clear through twice with better vision from his teammates. Lille were under pressure before the subs and he helped to turn the tide somewhat. Against PSG btw I think people had unrealistic expectations due to his 2019 season and the success of Davies. He’s in a completely different role than at Gent but he’s adapted and he’s now become an important part of a very strong team. A few goals and his value will sky rocket.

As frustrating as it has been for David, the reality is that our best player is a regular for the Bundesliga leaders and our second best player is a regular for the Ligue 1 leaders. That’s pretty good as far as Canadian soccer goes.

While I agree the defending is better in Ligue 1, thats not why David is not scoring. He should have at least 6 goals (vs 2) and probably more. He shanked 2 over the crossbar from close range, hit a post and missed a penalty. The David at Ghent would have put those away and we would be feeling a lot better notwithstanding he is still not getting service from his teamates. In all games, I can recall 2 good interceptions by defenders that probably negated a certain or a good opportunity at goal, but that's it. Its normal for fans to look for goals from their striker who set a Lille transfer record but David is playing well, running smart routes, creating space for his teamates, making good passes, holding the ball up well, pressing effectively and getting into goal scoring positions. The goals will come. He won the golden boot at GC 2019 (over a pretty good striker from Wolves), was the joint leading scorer in Belgium last season despite missing games due to the death of his mother. He has scored in Europa vs Roma.... Its not a coincidence. Some players need a period of adjustment when they move leagues. He will get back his clinical finishing. David's vision and soccer IQ is very high and as @hodgkisshas stated he is adapting his game. I think we will see the old David in the New Year. Did I mention he is only 20?

On paper, Wolves are looking at a tough run of fixtures in the next 3 weeks, playing Spurs, Man Utd, Brighton, and Everton in their next 4 matches. Is an Old Trafford debut in 8 days on the cards?

  16. Im pretty sure people hate to hear from me on the topic so I usually avoid it but every time I read people discussing the inevitable and completely reasonable topic of a Canadian national team camp, the same couple characters come around with the chicken little routine. Guys we get it, we're hammered over the head with it 24/7 for the past 10 months. Nothing should be happening anywhere. If you want to give relevant information to the specific details of the topic, fine. But don't go on your everyone is bad, you're all killing people routine, just save it. Americans, Alberta, anyone with an alternate point of view... bad, bad, bad. We know, we own television sets, we hear the message.... just give us a brake. We love the Canadian national team, thats why we waist so much time here. We finally have a team to be excited for and all we want is to see them play. None of us have any actual decision making power so just let it go and let's have the slightest bit of hope

Not unless you count the two times he was running with nothing but grass between him and the PSG goal, but his teammates decided it was better to dribble directly into a defender than to play him through.

Of course with covid things slowed down a lot. It’s definitely in the works, lots of interest from CPL and abroad. Just a matter of time” This is a direct quote from someone close to Kam about his situation with the Caps. Haven’t heard anything new since.

It's clear after watching several matches now that the team is better with him on the pitch. Most of his teammates want the glory of scoring so much that they are wiling to do it individually. David clearly is a team player and has modified his game a bit to be more of a CAM where he is holding up the ball, eluding defenders, drawing fouls and putting through balls into open space for the 4 or 5 guys that just want to score. Lille is actually very lucky to have him because he is one of the only players on the team that has the patience and the ability do do this through the middle of the park. Plenty of players have pace and the nose for scoring goals but can not bring the ball forward from halfway to the opposition's box. Something needs to give for the team to gel and not be 11 individuals trying to show their worth. They clearly needs some more unselfish players with more technical talent to be patience hold and look for the right opportunity instead of just tear-assing down the pitch and hope for the best. Most of the players on this team remind me of a highschool team full of track athletes. I think David has had a standout year as he has shown that he is growing in his role, abilities and the mental maturity to not just do what everyone else is doing. He has found a void in the team and is relishing the opportunity.

  24. Last years camp was Jan 15th and reports started to come out on Dec 30th https://www.wakingthered.com/2019/12/30/21042835/canada-soccer-iceland-friendly-january-2020-tv-hex-schedule https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/12/30/canada-mens-national-team-play-iceland-us-based-friendly-january So we may get an official announcement before the end of the year, hopefully. The roster last year came out around January 3rd, so 12 days before camp. https://www.wakingthered.com/2020/1/3/21048490/making-sense-of-the-canadian-mens-national-teams-january-roster

You get more bees with honey than vinegar, so if you disagree with someone, try to understand them instead of responding with bitterness or hatred. I am not targeting you specifically, because you are generally good at this (I appreciate your patience when it comes to the CSA finance issue, for example). This is just a general comment for those with ears to listen.

  28. I sorta thought that's what they meant here, but someone pointed out that Joao Mario is on loan, so it might mean 'replacement for' in that context. I think he's good enough to start for a Porto or Sporting; he just got voted as the third best player in the league for November. He doesn't seem like a bench player to me. Of course, It's hard to know what the bigger clubs are thinking.

David adapted to this level in my opinion, just need more frequent and better service while improving his touch and finishing. He's not over his head in France but Galtier can see what we all see, David in scoring position not getting service and the club playing better football when he's on the pitch.

Haven't David and his agent done any homework before signing on the dotted line? It's not that difficult to find out what kind of style this team plays after studying 10 game videos. Hmmm......A tragedy result of "money talks"?

Lol if it’s the conversation I saw, then you didn’t really try to defend him, you attacked the rest of the team unprovoked. Most Lille fans I’ve found recognize that they are a better team with David on the pitch, and many thought Galtier got it wrong by keeping him on the bench. I completely agree that David has had next to no service this year. Many of his goals for Gent were first time finishes from balls coming in off the wing It doesn’t look like this team is going to offer that so he has to find another way to score. His finishing hasn’t been as consistent this season either

  33. This is a bullshit argument. The Americans are fucked precisely because Americans are fucked. California imposes restrictions to try to contain the spread of the virus and half the population, egged on by loud voices in the media and the Republican machine, do everything they can to undermine the mitigation measures. As long as that's the case, nothing is going to work for that country. If you get buy in from the population, restrictions work to stop the spread. If you don't believe me, check out where I live.

Anybody else find it weird that they "cancelled" plans for a European camp due to the virus, but are now looking to have a camp in the country and the state who has handled the pandemic the absolute worst in the world? ...I truly wonder what the health experts are advising now... I also wonder what the defendants of the CSA think....

  38. Back to Eustaquio- this rumour of him going to Porto or Sporting could be really very big news. Any time a Canadian player is linked to a Champions League team it’s a big deal and I hope it happens. That being said- I don’t love the idea of him becoming a bench player for Sporting over starting where he’s at. He’s rapidly improving and needs playing time to reach his potential.

If this January camp is a big one I hope we call him, should be added to Olympic candidates as well. For everyone who thinks Europe is all glamour though have a look at some of those fields!

  40. I agree...that's why I would prefer this is just a U24 camp. I've said it before already, it doesn't make sense to bring in Kaye (will essentially have no rest/break), Piette (minimal break), Osorio, and Cavallini. Let those guys rest, enjoy their break after a tiring season (specifically the Canadian guys). And let's kill two birds with one stone, which is preparing for U24 COQ while seeing who stands-out and can go into the senior squad come March. This camp can't be considered a preparation camp for WCQ, I repeat this camp can't be considered a preparation camp.

I won’t lie here the 2018 campaign was a fail. the reality is that they are on the cusp of being a contender... I don’t know why Dest chose USA over Holland when he would have started for them for years and been a part of that country’s upcoming dynasty... oh wait DeBoer is gonna fuck it up. but.... west ? Sargent ? Reyna-McKennie-Pulisic Adams Dest-Brooks-?-Cannon/Reynolds horvath/Steffens I have to be real here.../ dest is and Reynolds will likely be word class. that midfield is going to be world class if not already. Their strike force isn’t great and the CB’s aren’t but they haven’t been pumping out the NYC, Miami and LA talent yet. the reality is that they will be a top 10 team in this decade.

Even signing as a bench player wouldn’t be the end of the world - it is pretty normal in a lot of transfers where the move is clearly upward. I suspect it would quickly work his way into the starting 11 if he gets a chance to showcase his skills with top teammates.

IF I were David now, I would concentrate to try doing all the others things right if not perfect except score. Let teammates and the coach see the difference between the time I was on and off the pitch. It's not easy to improve my situation in a team that has been long used to having two talented ball hoggers doing things at will. However, the difference will appear when a dark time comes to this team......eventually.

We were foolish to believe he would put the same numbers in France as Belgium from the get go. I think be has the talent to do so, but the transition clearly hasn't been as seamless as most of us here hoped for. I see it this way, a team like PSG (who lets not forget was just in a UCL final) well nets 3-4 goals on a team from Belgium today, even without all their stars, but they clearly can't do so against another Ligue 1 team. The gap in the level of defenders between both leagues is clear.

I get his frustration, “wise one” crack aside. When people look at his age and count him out just based on that, it gets under my skin too. Herdman very clearly let’s Hutchinson manage his own availability, and nothing has really changed, so why assume his time is up? He is still playing and scoring at Beşiktaş. There have been no injuries or comments from him that he is stepping away. I know Hutchinson won’t play forever, but until something changes you have to assume we haven’t seen the last of him.

Must be all the Wolves highlight videos I've been watching in this thread as the below video of their training session showed up at the top of Youtube page. It features a mini match with the academy. I think that's Corbeanu in the dark jersey playing on the right side. He features quite prominently in the highlights.
