Great game tonight at RB until he left with an injury. He looked like a world beater going up and down the wing. Great offensive skill and he did well when forced to defend. He is a shoe-in for the Olympic team and he is also playing his way into consideration for the CMNT. Hope the injury isn’t too serious (not as a result of a challenge or incident).

  7. MLS is doing we all hoped it eventually would around 10 years ago. The list of Canadians U23 with playing time this year is outstanding. TFC Academy seems to be doing a great job, and kudos to TFC for giving so many young lads an opportunity with the first team. Seeing young Canadian break through American teams is always a joy and i consider icing on the cake

  8. Liam Millar is captaining Liverpool U23s against Southampton in Premier League 2 action. He's playing left wing. He rattled the bar from about 20 yards out on the 19th minute and has a few decent short runs and a couple of good passes, so far. It's nil-nil in the 29th minute, right now. It's the first game at the Kirkby Academy since the first team moved in next door earlier in the week, and Jurgen Klopp is there to watch. Great opportunity for Liam to be seen in a week when 4-5 of his U23 teammates have been called up to first-team training. 42nd minute, Liam broke through off the l

A model professional! He must be one of the all time top players Canada has ever produced especially with his longevity. It’s too bad the crowds aren’t in to serenade him like they did when I was fortunate enough to see Besiktas last Christmas.

  14. Hernandez off with a back injury in their game today. Said some nice things about Davies in the week. "Even in the difficult situation I found myself in last season, I always saw myself with Bayern. I have always felt the club's confidence in me, from the management, the coach and my teammates. "With his speed, technical ability and positional play, [Davies] emerged as the best left-back in the world. Personally, I need competition to be able to progress." https://bulinews.com/news/6657/lucas-hernandez-hopes-alphonso-davies-will-return-from-injury-soon-i-need-competition-

It's always easy to compare paths to the World Cup for a dual national player, but I think with a European dual national there's always the added wrinkle of possible participation in the Euros. I'll always be proud of Canada winning the Gold Cup, but just qualifying for the Gold Cup vs Euros? Not even comparable as to which is the bigger deal to participate in. And now that it's restructured in such a way that even a country like North Macedonia can qualify through the D pool of the Nations League, you have to think it's a better chance for Bulgaria to get there.

  30. You would think a guy who went through that would have some consideration for a young player struggling. Very tough way to lose in the last moments like that, but it was coming for the last 15-20min. ZBG looked very good, between him Lareya and Johnston (who is looking good tonight as well) RB is seeming more like a strength than a weakness for CMNT.

Article mentions they would need to protect him from the expansion draft. It wouldn't be the worse thing if they didn't and I can see an expansion team giving it a shot based on the age and resume.

There was a rule change as recently as a few months ago I believe. Competitive matches still tie you, but not if you are under 21 years old, provided you play no more than 3 games. Something like that. Others may correct me where I have it wrong. I don't particularly care to go look it up at the moment. Pretty soon it is going to be: Competitive matches still tie you, but not if you are under 21 years old, provided you play no more than 3 games, with "competitive" now only applying only to continental and world cup play, and lineage being expanded to great-grandparents, but onl

I just find it difficult to believe that a player who has demonstrated an inability to play in MLS, struggled in usl , and is an above average player in a semi pro league. Is being taunted for a national team that is regularly competitive at the wc. Probably coming from the same people who said artardo was going to sign with all these big clubs lol

I really am not a fan of the Euros doing their qualifying that way. It creates an opportunity for a team to tank their way down to the D pool just to have an easy path the the Euros.

Was shocked to see him at RB has he ever played there before? He has had a great season and they have really treated his development well this season after he featured more than anyone thought the year before. He and Johnston have been welcome breakthroughs this year.

  43. They also had Penev, who was also more of a heavy target striker. So with left-footed Stoichkov, and then Kostadinov, they had a quality strike force. I saw some of those players in La Liga, then saw that Bulgaria in a friendly against Catalonia in '97, though some of their stars didn't play. Another strong mid was Balakov. Berbatov came in after that generation and really was not a factor in helping Bulgaria stay at the level of the 90s. My best Stoichkov story is seeing a hot car swerving all over the road near the Olympic Stadium, and the rest of us drivers honking because he was drivi

Love guys like Corbeanu & Millar who commit to us at an early stage. If they can get first team playing time in a decent league they will be a great compliment to Davies, David & Eustaquio.

This thread went from “we don’t need this guy, he’s playing in the lowly Bulgarian league” to “of course he chose Bulgaria over us” pretty quickly, despite the fact that most of their team plays in that league. And it’s not like the guys who play in other leagues are in a top 5 league. The odds of them becoming competitive in Europe in the next 10 years are pretty damn low.

Again, what's the same here? Canada not making it to the world cup? What big chance did Canada have in the past? They never had any. Today's situation is so different I have no idea why we're even comparing it. Between Canada and Bulgaria, today's situation favours Canada imo.
