Given Herdmans comments about having one squad for WCQ, one for Gold Cup and then there is U23 for Olympics too. We should see ALOT of new faces and at worst a huge chance of cap tying a few newbies.

As far as I can tell he wasn't called up to the Bulgarian NT for their games in October. Hopefully this means he waiting to play for us!

    Gold Cup 2021

I hope we see great mix of some fringe guys like Caniggia Elva , David Wotherspoon, Juan Córdova, Charlie Trafford. Some new young guys like Harry Paton, Theo Corbeanu, Dominik Yankov, Scott Kennedy. Also maybe Ricardo Ferreira. And have some regular guys. This Gold Cup could be super useful and important for the program to see what kind of Depth we really have.

  9. We can't expect to win them all. All things considered, this wasn't bad. Not grabbing Ferdi hurts, but he never really seemed interested so that isn't a surprise. And while I get that Ferrera would be a good addition, a guy at his age who doesn't have a desire to play isn't that high on my priority list. I would far rather be securing the young players with a lot of promise who want to rep the red and white. I am hoping the Akinola chatter is more than him keeping his options open and really does signal a strong inclination towards Canada.

I think he has to judge where they want him most, and I imagine that amongst many suitors there are always those that are just hedging their bets and have a list of half a dozen to pick up on loan, and others which have actually looked at their roster, that player, and have a clear idea for Liam. This you can gauge. That said, no matter what the club, the manager is in charge and you can never have minutes ensured anywhere. You have to train and play to be on the pitch if that is where you want to be. That is why I am in favour of any deal where Liverpool or his agent require some sort of penalization clause if he doesn't get minutes. For what it is worth.

  14. Ferreira is off my wish list. He's delusional. I would rather we develop young guys who are proud to rep the flag, not some guy taking our calls for granted. Thats just me though..

We have a bunch of good young RBs already? I don’t understand this idea of playing him in a different position. He’s one of best DM we have and he’s playing really well. I know everyone loves Piette but come on he’s not our best options anymore. I’m sorry

It's certainly not because he isn't capable of playing at a higher level. His injury slowed his career trajectory a bit, but it seems he is back right where he left off. Another good season with Pacos and I see him moving to a bigger club once his contract with Cruz Azul is up. The guy is a gem, and we are super fortunate to have him.

When Klopp first arrived at Liverpool, he was adamantly opposed to loaning young players out to other clubs. He preferred that they stayed home to develop and learn to play Liverpool's style of football. He's evolved over the past few years to allow some loans. However, he does insist on such clauses penalizing the loan club if the player doesn't get certain amounts of minutes. It'll be great if that happens in Liam's move in the next few days.

  26. Not surprised that Marmoush and Kadioglu are not interested, would be incredibly surprised if they were. Happy to have Corbeanu and Yankov on board, both are promising players! Ferreira can f*** off in my opinion. I wish we would stop collectively holding our breath that he is the saviour of our defence

  31. Really excited to see Martin Amuz, just for depth and how it plays out. Wonder if he would consider looking into the MLS at some point. I also wonder if Cav and Amuz had a discussion at some point. When you look at the big picture Cav got PAID, a big part of that started from his exposure at the Gold Cup repping the red and white. He's well aware of this and has said he's forever grateful being Canadian. Be cool if Amuz and Cav chatted at some point. This is good stuff for a random Wednesday as a CMNT fan.

  32. Corbeanu, Yankov and Amuz are in. Akinola in discussions (positive) Ferreira in discussions (still wants to play for Portugal, but still considering Canada) Marmoush committed to Egypt for the Olympics Kadioglu is a hard No.

  35. filthy meg by Davies, ended in a goal too. Damn.... This is WHY he works as a LB for Bayern, he gets the entire length of the field to accelerate and use his speed.
    2 points
  36. He already proved how efficient he is for Canada at that position when he terrorized, exhausted and made a mockery of the USMNT defense when he played there. They were terrified of his speed and being caught by the counter while just not being able to keep up with him. I was streaming the return game on Fox and even the announcers said that Canada gave a MASSIVE gift to the US by playing him LB. Their mid and forwards pressed us much harder and we caved early. We have enough talented fullbacks to play him there and overload any CONCACAF midfield (save Mexico) with skills and speed.

    Cristián Gutiérrez

Fair enough. I am not convinced Gutierrez is not good enough for our senior side. I also get the argument he hasn't "earned" a senior call yet. I think wanting to see him and Yankov with the Olympic squad first is fair. However, I am okay if they jump straight to the senior team. There are plenty examples of players skipping that step. They could even drop back down later and help the Olympic team. If calling them to the senior team first is required to get them on board, I have little problem with it. They are ours then. What would it really cost us? Not a whole lot. I would rather do that then lose them to Chile and Bulgaria. And also, if you'd like to see them with our Olympic squad, are they really that far off the senior team? We have all kinds of Olympic players in our senior pool as it is. I can appreciate you wanting to see him with the Olympic team first, but Yankov is not joining us without a senior call by the sounds of it. If the interest from Chile in Guiterrez is genuine, I doubt he makes a change for our Olympic team, so probably same deal as Yankov.

    Atiba Hutchinson

Yesterday one soccer had a brilliant hangout session about the gold cup and everything about the national team moving forward that’s posted on YouTube. I recommend giving it a listen. About 29 minutes in they are talking about centre back being the weakest position and Iain Hume (who had many great points throughout) said you could put Atiba back there, he called him the best holding mid we currently have and he said it allows us to have Arfield and Piette in the starting 11 with Atiba. Remember Hume and Hutchinson are Brampton buddies and I would say he knows Atiba would be willing to play there and also this tells me he will play for Canada again or Hume wouldn’t have suggested it.

Honestly, I guarantee if Herdman calls him, he'll agree. It definitely sounds like he is leaning towards Canada, and I were him, I would too, the prospect of playing in a world cup as a host nation during your prime is not one to pass on lightly.

    Stephen Eustaquio

Oso is argueably better in possession than all of Arfield/Eustaquio/Atiba/Kaye, which is likely why Herdman likes to have him start. Arfield is the team's captain, and when he's in form there's no way he's not starting, and Eustaquio's club play and consistency this season and the bit of last's speak for itself. As it stands I'd argue Eustaquio and Arfield are sure starters, so the last spot is between Osorio, Kaye, or Atiba... that's a very good problem to have considering were the team was a bit less than a decade ago.

What a stupid idea ! They kinda tried that the last gold cup and it was awful! He’s one of our best midfielders . Play him has a midfielder. I’m sorry if that puts Piette on the bench but that’s how it goes. The best players play.

    Jonathan David

This is exactly what concerns me as well. The attacking midfielder they so desperately need is already within their ranks. Play David behind Yilmaz and Bamba, or Weah, or buy Morales from Rangers. Just have David create. Hell play Araujo there if not David. They so desperately need someone to pull the strings in midfield. Maybe even play Renato Sanches closer to goal. The frustrating thing is that you cannot really argue with their spot in the table. Do Lille fans approve of Galtier?
