Bayern would be a dream. Having the Double D’s able to work on their chemistry at a club level would be immense for the Nats. Sure David would have to earn his spot. And maybe he wouldn’t walk into the first team right away. Buy he has crazy talent, the perfect attitude, and apparently a golden cock. Just think of the great soundbites Muller would produce.

    The next Canadian superstar

"Superstar" is a pretty lofty title. I'd say after Davies and David, no one has "superstar" hype just yet. And there might not be any others for years. I might even argue Davies is the first Canadian football superstar ever. I love prime JDG, Radz, and Hutch but wouldn't call them superstars...

    Atiba Hutchinson

I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he is declining or getting ready to pull on some warm slippers and ride into the sunset. He is playing at an elite level, has not shown any signs of slowing down, and is still among our very best players. Viva Atiba!

    The Importance of Jr. Hoilett

Hoilett once again shows his ability, this time against table-topping Leeds. That was a massive win, giving Cardiff's promotion hope a real boost . I think that is 5 goals on the season, not bad. I would love to see him in the EPL again.

    The Importance of Jr. Hoilett

In 450+ career games he's only appeared 4 times as a striker. 9 goals and 9 assists in 10 starts are incredible numbers, and you're saying he needs to step up his game? I love your enthusiasm but I really don't understand the majority of your posts.

    The Importance of Jr. Hoilett

You've had this same comment about Atiba and Christine, who are older, yes, but still play at a high level. Have you watched Junior Hoilett play for either club or country at all the last few years? He has been one of Canada's, and Cardiff's, most consistent players. And just because he's now 30 doesn't mean his legs are suddenly going to fall off and he can't play. In two years, I will gladly take Hoilett at 32 if he is still playing at a high level (and there's a more than good chance he will be) over a random 19 year old who is still trying to earn a first start on some tenth place team from Eastern Europe, just to make Canada younger. We have the youth. Hoilett brings experience from a world class league, which we still need right now, and he's still one of our best players.

I think it could Byrm, he looked really good during winter camp, if does end up going to Mouscron and get game time there he could end up being great. Raposo could end up being pretty good as well.

I am in favour of going younger all other things being equal but at the end of the day you just play the best guys you have at the time. Don’t worry about where someone will be in 6 years time (!) just play them if they deserve a spot in the 11 or 18. The end.

It's a Father's Day greeting, with that phrase in bold: Birakmam Seni, "I will never leave you" (similar to a "you'll never walk alone") which is a supporters vow at Besiktas.

There doesn't seem to be an obvious choice at the moment. I think Millar has the most potential to "break out" next, but I can't see anyone reaching David/Davies level, if we are talking superstars. So yeah, my money is on Millar. A solid loan to the Championship would be his coming out party, I am hoping. It is really too bad Tabla isn't further ahead. I am very disappointed, but he has all the talent in the world to get back to Europe and forge a very good career. If he can have a good few years in MLS and go back across the pond, it's not too late for him to perhaps have a "Junior Hoilett" level career for club and country.

    The Importance of Jr. Hoilett

Love Junior and watched him a lot over the last few years for club and country. Dynamic yes. Cracking with both feet yes. Often fades badly after 60 min yes. Disappears at times to conserve energy it seems. Lots of miles under his belt. For that reason I think for MNT in future we should see him start and subbed off around the hour mark or come off the bench around 65-70 min depending on opposition and how many games in the FIFA window. My guess anyways.

He’s been lights out for Canada lately. 9 goals and 9 assists in his last 10 starts. There are lots of people fighting for those forward positions though. It’s good to see. Just need to sort out the back line

While I agree that Didic needs to move up a level, I think his style of play is perfect for that position in the heart of the back 3. That said, this position may also suit Henry and encourage him to play more conservatively as he'd be the last line of defense. Like Didic, he is great in the air and is a leader, except he plays at a higher level, so I don't have problem with Didic being the understudy. Those other spots really suit Cornelius and Waterman. Miller can fill in on the left for Cornelius and perhaps Zator on the right.

I'm not saying anyone should do anything. I think Bundesliga should effort to bring Canadians in to their league. There is an opportunity to build its brand here. I'm personally a little bored of the epl and I'm not a big fan of DAZN coverage. Bundesliga have done well to grab eyeballs in the US

Most of Bayern's attack is the wrong side of 30, and I'd put David ahead of many of their young replacements. I still quite like Bayern as a destination, but I'd be happy with Gladbach as well.

Great point. Using that same logic I would like to suggest we move on from David and Davies, because by the time the 2038 World Cup comes around they won't be at the same level anymore. We should stick to calling players that don't age beyond their prime.

This isn't the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Thread; this is a rehashing of the same of the same points discussed ad nauseam in the thread "Should Christine Sinclair retire": https://www.canadiansoccernews.com/forums/topic/75892-should-christine-sinclair-retire-from-the-cwnt/ ...a thread you have already posted in btw! Meanwhile, there is actually news about the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup to talk about. The hosting rights will be allocated on June 25th - this Thursday. There were 4 bids still active at the start of the month; Brazil withdrew a few weeks ago. Now Japan just withdrew: https://japan2023bid.com/news/00025033.html https://au.sports.yahoo.com/japan-pull-2023-wwc-race-report-071412368--spt.html So the tournament will be hosted by either Colombia or (most likely) Australia & New Zealand.

Hoilett is definitely ahead of all the wingers you mentioned. Except if he has a massive drop in form he'll be playing for us if we qualify in 2022 and possibly even 2026. He's been a great player for both club and country and is to me at least, just as worthy of a guaranteed starting role as David, Davies, or Borjan.

So it took him 37 years to get to 21.6, so that is about 1.7 years per physiological age years. I guess that means he will be hitting his physical prime when he is about 47. Too bad he is going to peak after the 2026 World Cup .

Australia/New Zealand's best capacity is not disputed. The infrastructure of developed nations cannot be compared with that of third world countries. My reflection above is about how difficult is for emerging nations to have the opportunity to host a women's world cup.

I'd run a 5-3-2. Hoilett/Kaye/Eustaqio would be the go to substitutions. I like ZBG more than Layrea. But either is fine. I think Waterman will be a constant piece going forward and I think the likes of Zator and Didic will be a part of the defense too. H

David currently holding on the 20th spot. Would be awesome if he can make the final list. Davies will get there regardless.
