  1. It's interesting when I read speculation on our best 11, of course it is just opinion but many times JH is left out, watching a goal like this against a high level of competition reminds me how good he can be!

  4. Gator is right, we forget in the excitement of a potential David move to a bigger club, we already have a guy who has proved himself in the EPL. Would be nice to see Hoilet get promoted, Larin in Belgium, Davies in Bunda and David in Italy (?). A nice excuse to my wife that I have to watch all these leagues to keep tabs on the CDNS.

  5. And just two years ago this group was complaining about '(City Name) (animal name)'. "Oh don't be like every other North American league." "Hey a big game coming up...FC United vs United FC. Really important as United is four points ahead of United. I hope the craft beer is cold."

  6. The sad part of this situation is that if he gets healthy and plays any significant minutes he is immediately in the mix for the CMNT. Here’s hoping he gets healthy and decides to represent the maple leaf!

  18. He’s been lights out for Canada lately. 9 goals and 9 assists in his last 10 starts. There are lots of people fighting for those forward positions though. It’s good to see. Just need to sort out the back line

Really would like to see him with Canada, just in case he does turn into a good player. Played the first half as an 8 and the second half as a 10 Thought he had a decent game today. He does have pretty good feet in tight spaces and does do decent work around the box. Like how quick he can turn on the ball, opening up space. Nearly scored a nice goal getting through 2 defenders. Side note, his gk did a hilariously big fuck up on the first goal. Worth seeing lol.

    Jonathan David

Here is the current standings for the Golden Boy award. From what I can tell the Top 20 are selected by the fan vote and then the media chooses the winner. David currently holding on the 20th spot. Would be awesome if he can make the final list. Davies will get there regardless. Throw some votes at David. 1 Alejandro MARQUÉS Juventus 2077 2 TETÊ, Shakhtar 1985 3 Alphonso DAVIES Bayern Munich 1767 4 Mason GREENWOOD Machester United 1638 5 Dominik SZOBOSZLAI Red Bull Salzburg 1612 6 Heorhiy TSITAISHVILI Dynamo Kiev 1572 7 Eduardo QUARESMA Sporting Lisbon 1454 8 Erling HÅLAND Dortmund 1324 9 Mohammed KUDUS Nordsjelland 1277 10 Marley AKÉ Olypique Marseille 1258 11 Jadon SANCHO Dortmund 1093 12 Anssumane FATI Barcellona 939 13 Mamadou SÈNE Juventus 937 14 Lutsharel GEERTRUIDA Feyenoord 814 15 Mathías SOULÉ Juventus 789 16 RODRYGO Real Madrid 678 17 Matias RAMOS Benfica 673 18 VINÍCIUS JÚNIORR Real Madrid 669 19 Gabriel MARTINELLI Arsenal 620 20 Jonathan DAVID Gent 605 21 Ozan KABAK Schalke 577 22 David COLINA Hajduk 573

    The Road to Qatar.

Fun facts What does our 3 last losses against Mexico, USA and Haiti have in common? Henry started those games while Davies was LB. We might want to not do that again. Just a thought in regards to Henry. In regard to Davies, Canada isn't Bayern, that's why he shouldn't be LB against stronger teams. The US played a very different game when Davies was put LB instead of LW. The US pressed more while they were way more careful in game 1 fearing a counter attack caused by turnovers where they'd have no chance in catching either David and Davies. Since defense is our biggest liability, you want stronger teams to be more cautious about their pressing.

Knowing Vanney?? No. There should be some minutes to be had (with a condensed seaso), but he'll prob slide Bradley into CB, or try to turn Fraser etc. Vanney doesnt bring along young defenders unless he drafted them or they eat thanksgiving dinner with him. I think Romeo, Dunn and Okello should get the hell out of TO. A loan to a CPL club might be better for them, better than toiling in lower level USL for another year. All 3 looked pretty promising 3 years ago, and not much has happened since. You would have thought one of them would have gotten some sort of shot by now. Kind of sad but its the circle of life, new prospects coming up all the time.

Millar also played right back for Canada, albeit against usvi, but he played there. I think maybe against Dominica too. With him and Davies on the wings, Arfield, Hutchinson, Kaye/Eustáquio in the middle then David, Hoilett and Cavallini up top, we just need 2 decent centre backs. Thats a lot of firepower.

  29. I'm not bothered by a name not referring to a place. I like many quite enjoy how the CPL has done things. In Spain, in top flight right now, you have Espanyol, Levante, Osasuna, Betis, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club. Although some may have a longer official name, for example for the last decade or more Espanyol is officially Real Club Espanyol de Barcelona. Alavés is a reference to the province of Alaba (Alava), the province where the team from Vitoria is from. So that is a third of Spain top flight. In 2nd division there is only one, Numancia, referring to the ancient name of Soria. Rayo Vallecano refers to the neighbourhood of Vallecas in Madrid.

I’m not sure how he’d handle a higher level but I rarely remember Kadin Chung putting a foot wrong last season. The rest of Pacific’s defence was shambolic though, so I think he’s been overlooked

I think we have some depth at LB and RB. At left back we have Davies, Solomon, Adekugbe, Miller, Bassong and Abzi plus Gutierrez if he commits to us. At right back we have Laryea, ZBG, Cordova, Godinho and Zator.

IMO he's better than Piette and Kaye. Hard worker, good technically, REALLY good first touch, and great quick passer. If the CMNT was playing today, Eustaquio starts.

  34. Alphonso winning Rookie of the Season surprised me given the fact that Haaland was a goal machine and produced far more than Davies did but that is neither here nor there. Davies won the award and he has also won the Bundesliga title too. Probably had a lot to do with it but what is next on the horizon now? UEFA Champions League

Eustaquio is a player. He is a great addition and will force Piette to get better or lose his spot. And If Fraser ever gets to play, (flipping Covid,) we will have very solid quality at CDM. And if Hutch gives us another year or 2... just need a couple of CB’s to step up.

I have seen a lot of player threads opened without much info in the first post Please everyone do the following when opening a player thread, if you want to add more that is great also: Make sure the player is playing pro or almost certain of becoming pro In the first post, give some info on the player: at the very least his year of birth, position and experience If you want to add more like highlight videos, interviews...that is great Thank you everyone

21st Club - the firm CPL hired to set up their international player pool database - did a podcast with Athletic UK. CPL content starts at around 39:25 mark. Items of note include too many bears in Canada was a headwind in having a pro league for the past 100 years. Quality of international players was a disappontment in year 1. Lack of connections and inexperience amongst club management was the primary issue. Cavalry signing Cordova came from their database as 21st viewed top teams in Peruvian 2nd division similar to CPL level. Also compared CPL level to English League 2/National League. Podcast host knew Cavalry came from Calgary. Life in Canada great selling point for players. High production quality of matches also helps.

    2020 Voyageurs Cup Format

No, the US wouldn't get the spot back. From MLS: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/06/10/mls-back-tournament-winner-will-qualify-2021-scotiabank-concacaf-champions-league "CCL berths for Canada-based clubs Meanwhile, Canada could see two MLS representatives in the Champions League. In addition to the automatic berth that goes to the winner of the 2020 Canadian Championship, a Canadian club winning the MLS is Back Tournament will also clinch a spot in the Champions League. Should the same Canadian MLS club win both the MLS is Back Tournament and the Canadian Championship, then Canada Soccer will determine the qualification criteria for the second club." I've only speculated that the CCL berth for Canada would go to the Voyagers Cup runner up, as that's the tournament normally used to determine the spot.
