  2. I Agree with Stouffvillian I think CPL teams should try to make partnerships with exsiting youth clubs in there area

  3. My hope for CPL is too to develop young Canadian talent ,the more depth we can add the better for our National teams. And to be very competitive amongst the CONCACAF region .Forge set the tone with a decent Run in CL, While Calvary beat Vancouver in the CCL.Wouldn't it be cool to see HFX Hosting either a TFC or a Club America in a CL SEMI FINAL OR FINAL. IT would be huge at least in the Halifax / Eastern Canada region

Kevin is providing commentary of the Werder Bremen-Bayer Leverkusen game on Sportsnet. He is currently assistant manager of Kaiserslautern in Bundesliga 3.

  5. I think what Halifax has already accomplished is huge. For every "expert" trying to create a Football manager canadian league from scratch a few years ago, did any of them pick Halifax as making the biggest breakthrough? They put a small pop up in a good spot, created the buzz, brought in the crowds and atmosphere in a perfect storm kind of way...and they didnt even have a very good team. Doesnt this give a lot of hope to Blaineville or Saskatoon?? Under the right circumstances it is possible to tap into the underlying current of soccer support and have a successful team in a modest CPL??

  6. No. He's got a foothold in Scotland. I'd rather he keep playing over there than return to Canada. I think half the point of the CPL is to develop players to move them on to Europe. Plus, if you bring him back he's then taking the spot of another potential player here.

  7. The Man U trial was common knowledge in Vancouver. Many were critical of the Whitecaps at the time. I think it also coincided with a Canadian camp

  8. The Times of London published an interesting story on Monday about Phonsie's recruitment to Bayern. It's behind a paywall but there was some really interesting information. - Bayern initially dismissed any hype around Davies because "we do not look in the MLS". An agent finally convinced a club rep to have a look in 2017. - Man Utd came on the scene and had the nerve to ask Phonsie to come on trial in January 2018 to which the Whitecaps told them to get stuffed. - After Bayern had agreed the transfer, Man Utd came back in again with a $10M USD offer, far less than Baye

  9. Trending on Twitter again as he often is now after Bayern games, partly due both to his superhuman speed (some want to see a race between either Davies and Mbappe or Davies and Usain Bolt) and his impact on the game. Arguments among fans of many nationalities about whether he has become the best LB in the world, or just top 5, or possibly still top 10 only due to small sample size.

    Nike?

I had one of those as well, but it’s long gone from my collection. I seem to recall getting it through a giveaway from a cereal company (maybe Kellogg’s). I’d love to see that style rejuvenated.

  11. Based on population, wealth and participation rates Canada *should* be the 3rd best team in CONCACAF. Obviously the lack of professional development pathway from 1992 to 2097 basically slowed to a crawl our ability to field World Cup quality teams. Even when we were close we had no depth beyond say 16 or 18 players so anyone getting injured, suspended or not participating was devastating to our hopes. What MLS (post say 2012) has done is give us a critical mass to at least have a 2nd line of players who can step in. What the CPL will do is give us that consistent base of

  13. That Joe Belan interview (I think it was on the Premier Podcast) had some really good insight on player development in Canada. The new US development academy league has 95 teams, only 3 Canadian (the MLS teams).

Yeah it would but David going to Inter he would be playing with world class talent

  15. We just need more full time training for elite footballers in Canada. If it's an academy then great

  16. Academies are great but they come at a fantastic cost. For a league that has one year under its belt and is now taking a massive financial blow in these time sinking millions into academies makes no sense at all. MLS relied on the NCAA for 20+ years for players and in their recent model where they spend lots of money on DP and TAM players academies only make sense in that they give teams ways to circumvent that cap. Taking Y9 for example, it makes much more sense for them to grow relationships with the existing clubs around the area. Vaughan, Woodbridge, UMSC, Markham and Aurora all ha

Being an Inter fan...it will be sad to see Lautaro go especially to Barcelona but if Jonathan David goes to my club of Inter, I just hope he is a suitable replacement for my club especially if he is going to be replacing a world class striker especially an Argentine, Lautaro Martinez.

Yeah but then the season is basically shortened because of the worldwide crisis so there's no way that could really work

I doubt it because he would have to essentially wait until the next season

Yeah Napoli would be interesting especially going to the Serie A especially to a club with a rich tradition like Napoli, he would be around world class talent like Milik, Zielinski, Hirving Lozano, Koulibaly, Dries Mertens, Insigne, Fernando Llorente, David Ospina, etc. He would at least have potential to play in Champions League/Europa League by going to Napoli

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10998463/arsenal-everton-leicester-transfer-news-jonathan-david/amp/ Just seeing this article Arsenal, Everton, Leicester, RB Leipzig, Napoli, Lazio and Lyon are the clubs who are not only in the running but they are the 7 clubs who could afford him.

No way he and his agent would go for that especially to play in Canadian Premier League, no David has played in Europe playing against probably the best competition, against some of the best in the world. He wouldn't want to play in the CPL because if anything it would feel like a demotion whereas if he stays in Europe or even goes to MLS he at least goes up against elite level superstars day in, day out. CPL at best he wouldn't be playing against elite level superstars/world class talent. If anything it would be too easy for a star of his caliber.

Boca Juniors in Argentina is a far stretch but I don't know if that could work. CSKA Moscow though however would be an interesting choice for sure assuming if David did end up in Russia. However, if David were to go to MLS then the only team in MLS that makes any remote sense is LA Galaxy.

Exactly my point we may as well speculate and spitball ideas as for teams where he would be a good fit. Roma would be a good fit but if he did go to Fiorentina, he would be an instant starter on that team if you see their lineup.

  26. TGAA_Star

    Jonathan David

Yeah well a lot of teams are in the running so why not list teams where he would be a fit because he could be a fit on any of those teams

Okay then that's that. So then Italian clubs I'm sure can and so could English or Dutch clubs or German clubs or even Spanish clubs because they at least have the money. Yeah a lot of clubs were linked before but now only a certain amount now are linked to him but because of this transfer window who even knows anymore because of this COVID-19 crisis.

Plus if he were to go to Monaco yeah sure he would most likely have to fight for genuine minutes but looking at Monaco's striker line they have Slimani, Gelson Martins, Jovetic, Keita Balde, Willem Geubbels, Ben Yedder but yeah they have stars but he would still be able to get minutes no doubt especially in that offense. I mean what Monaco is mostly about now is their midfield and if you take a look at their midfield right now, it is loaded but David is not a midfielder. He is a striker and seeing the strikers on that team he would give them some real competition.

Then how about other French teams like Marseille, Lille, AS Monaco or Nice in the French Ligue
    1 point
  32. TGAA_Star

    Jonathan David

That's true but then Serie A he would most likely have to deal with racism well depending on which Italian team he ended up with but if he goes to England he would most likely be coming off the bench having to fight for playing time depending on where he went or if he went to like a middle of the pack team he would probably flourish

Then in that case Everton or West Ham but would be more of a scoring threat playing for West Ham than he would be on Everton

  35. They should have honestly suspended play until further notice because they run the risk of exposure to COVID but also seeing what's been going on out there in the world, they should be taking extra precautions.
