I would say only really disappointing if you use David as your measuring stick, which is a nice measuring stick to have. I have liked what I have seen from him attitude-wise in getting his career back on track. David and Davies have been nothing but miraculous for us in the last year, but having Larin playing and contributing in decent league is certainly something the national team can use.

In a world where players come and go, it's interesting to see someone come and stay. Rollins isn't suggesting his kids are going to be internationals - he is using them as an example of how settled Bradley is in Canada.

"We have a multi-year option on his contract and he is another player where we benefited from the league’s support with their international recruitment program in conjunction with the 21st Club" This 21st Club has really helped the league increase the quality of the international players coming in. Last year Adjei, Murofushi and Gattas were brought in and Murofushi. This year the internationals seem to be of a higher pedigree and they are younger and may not have reached their peak yet.

That is one my worries, see below Moraes is exactly not what I would not want to happen to David. Wesley (what we knew/know Moraes as here) did not develop much so far, that I could tell. He was a big, physical forward (which David is not) , that did okay initially (did well against Na'arch but even my team did that) before going almost 3 months without a goal, scoring one and then getting seriously injured. Another example from the same area of the table, though at a different position (hard to directly compare stats) is Pablo Fornals. Still rated slightly higher than David, starter and important player in the winning Spanish side at the under21 Euros last summer, even a starter in another "top 5 league" but overall an obvious talent on the ball. Comes; has trouble with the speed of the Premiership and takes a while finding his feet, starting to get there when the bottom falls out of our form and the manager is sacked. Install a new manager whose job is too stay in the league at all costs and young Fornals does not make the squad against Man City (thereby partially negating the playing against the best teams in the world). Vincent Janssen is another from a few years ago not even going to a bottom half team but from a more similar league. Gaudy numbers (32 goals and 7 assists playing in the same competitions - Europa League and qualifying - and a slightly better league than David) now plies his trade in Mexico. The most direct good example I can think of from the Belgian League is one of my favourite players - De Bruyne - same age if David was sold this year but he was sold for less and was loaned back and went on a bit of a tour before and after Chelsea let him go (for a fair bit of dosh) and then he developed into the star he is - while playing in European competitions in Germany and with Man City. Long story short, Wesley and Fornals have a good chance of not being in the Premier League next year so if David goes, it needs to be to the right team, not for the right money and I think playing with Gent in the Champions League is better than playing with Villa or - and it pains to say it - West Ham and probably even going to the likes of Tottenham, especially under Mourinho, or Chelsea.

Aston Villa paid Genk a fee of 22 million Euro for Moraes a 22 year old Brazilian forward that had 17 Goals in 48 Matches and 13 in 44 the year before. This winter window they also paid 8.5 million Euro to Genk again for a 27 year old attacker that has 10 goals in 28 matches, 32 in 51 year before. David is at 22 goals in 37 matches, already surpassing Moraes production. Granted there are of course some non goal scoring aspects to consider but the sort of baseline from Belgium would have David given his age and production at minimum 35 million Euro. Another consideration is he has only been in a professional environment while in Belgium, his growth has been accelerating steeply. If you put him in an even better environment (a la Davies at Bayern) then how much more would the development ramp up?

Scott went back to Austria healthy and played in 4 friendly matches. Unfortunately, in the last friendly before the 1st game of the 2nd half of the regular season, he was injured. He will need approx 4 weeks to heal. He remains positive and looks forward to helping the team get promoted (Klagenfurt is in 2nd with 37 points).

    Cyle Larin

Depends on how you measure it. He has had a new lease on life based on game time. However, if you base it on goals per game then obviously not, as you have demonstrated. He is a striker so that is concerning. I wonder though, what do his assists per game look like? Would like to see that statistic. That's the thing about stats, you can use them to push whatever narrative you like. They are useful in that way. For me the jury is still out on Larin. I am happy he is playing more and he's clearly been doing more playmaking, but I want to see him scoring more. There is still time left in the season for him to score a few more. If his club do not make the Championship round (they are on the outside at the moment), there is a better chance he gets more goals. Reaching double digits is still possible and although the goals per game is not great, at least getting +10 league goals is something for him to build on for next season. He still has the better part of his career to figure it out and not many concacaf strikers would have put up +10 goals at a level similar to the Belgian First Division A, so he's still on a decent trajectory.

f they go 4 teams, I'd want to see a Page Playoff system they do for our national curling championships. Team in 1st would get 2 home games too, so it rewards the team winning the league. And if you finish 3rd or 4th, you need to win 3 straight games.

3 out of 8 teams (37.5%) of the league makes the playoffs. I'd be fine keeping it at that number of teams until the league gets to 12 teams, then I'd add a fourth team to the playoffs to keep the ratio at 33.3%. I think it's a fine balance between having too many playoff teams that the regular season becomes meaningless, and too few playoff teams where the season soon becomes meaningless for most of the clubs.

He's less experienced in competitive men's soccer than most of the players. But putting all our hopes for Qatar on getting a result away vs the States instead of planning more competently is not just on him, those who hired him continually show ineptitude.

    The Road to Qatar.

I will repeat what I have said a few times: Canada would be in far better shape right now if we had simply don’t the job against Haiti in the Gold Cup. We were up 2-0 against a lower ranked team. If we had just finished them off, we would have gained valuable points and had an extra SF game to earn even more. If we had just done what we were supposed to do (and were entirely capable of doing), we would be in great shape to qualify for the hex for the first time in decades, and everyone would be thanking Victor for a format that would have basically delivered us into the hex. Hard to blame him for our team’s complete collapse against an inferior team at a crucial time.

    Atlético Ottawa 2020 Season

This. I hope we stick to this rather than the early MLS DP over the hill club. It's a different strategy. Eyes on the league and clubs that name signings bring is good but the potentially sell on value of some of these u23 players, foreign or not, is much better imo. I'd much rather we were a where stars are born opposed to a where stars come to die league. Obviously presumptuous on both of those things ever happening but I'm ok with the former strategy as it will help build the resources for our clubs and future Canadian talent to grow and thrive.

    Will Johnson (update)

I don't think we should move on from Will Johnson for ideological reasons (such as "play your kids"). If he is still good enough, he deserves a place. If he is not then he does not deserve a place. Either way he must fight for his spot like everyone else. Same can be said for any of our players, not just Will. If there is a pragmatic reason to go young for a particular camp then so be it. I personally get excited when we invest in the future. However, to say no WJ because that's Rusty's spot? I don't agree with that, or at least I would add the caveat "it's Rusty's spot for now". If WJ finds form and Rusty (or whoever his competition is) falters, then we should be calling Will. Things do not look promising at the moment though. I do think Teibert is currently ahead of him and seems to be in good form this preseason. Have a good feeling about Teibert in 2020. Hope it's a breakout season for him. Also hope Johnson can find a home and play a role somewhere. The more depth we have, the better.

    The Road to Qatar.

Two wins against T&T would give us ~7.5 points Panama play both Nicaragua and Guatemala outside of the FIFA window first, so their ranking will change but if we stick to the: +4.6 -0.4 -5.4 line for El Salvador vs Panama and if we are about ~14.2 points behind now, then, Best case scenario: We beat T&T twice and Panama beat El Salvador - The gap shrinks from ~14.2 to ~1.3 2nd/3rd best case scenario: We beat T&T twice and Panama draw El Salvador - The gap shrinks from ~14.2 to ~6.3 We beat T&T in one game but draw the other and Panama beat El Salvador - The gap shrinks from ~14.2 to ~6.3 4th best case scenario: We beat T&T twice and but prior to that, El Salvador declare their match against Panama is a training match - The gap shrinks from ~14.2 to ~6.7 Other scenarios that kill our Hex chances: We beat T&T twice and El Salvador beat Panama - The gap shrinks from ~14.2 to ~11.3 We beat T&T in one game but lose the other and Panama beat El Salvador - The gap shrinks from ~14.2 to ~11.3 In all other scenarios the point gap grows. Of course, the arithmetic gets more complicated if El Salvador schedule a second friendly. Please correct any mistakes if I've made any. Thanks to @Kyle_The_Hill for the points from different match outcomes.
