I think we'll see (read on twitter) three very different lineups. Three games in a week will do that. I would expect something like: Barbados 1: Crepeau Laryea James Miller Adekugbe Piette Shome Nelson Chapman Borges Ricketts Barbados 2: Carducci Godinho Didic Cornelius Morgan Fraser Tiebert Akindele Osorio Shaffleburg Bair And then see who performed the best and recovered the quickest for the 15th.

We have had soccer/CMNT coverage on Sportsnet/TSN for approximately 20 years now. Its not like this 'exposure' was really doing much to 'grow' the game. I understand the argument why we want this content to be more accessible. But One Soccer seems more interested then the traditional broadcasters and apparently is paying real money for it.

Dortmund is 600 km away from Munich. When Bayern and Dortmund play, IT"S NOT A DERBY!

Not a formation geek by any stretch, but something like this looks like a solid line up that would hopefully be able to play solid defence. I think not conceding against Iceland would be key, and I think we could grab a goal or two against Barbados even with a fairly defensive line up. Crepeau Laryea James Cornelius Adekugbe Piette Tiebert Akindele Osorio Borges Ricketts

The truth is it’s almost impossible that we overtake El Salvador. Getting good match experience against a team like Iceland is worth the potential loss of points

The thing is, we’re talking CanPL year two here so maybe he’s not being sarcastic

A lot more new faces than I expected. I really don't mind the call ups of players like Bassong and Brym. Sometimes this is what these kind of players need. They need this experience and exposure (if good enough). Even if it means catching the eyes of mls teams and leaving Europe, so be it. Gives a revival in their current situation. Happy to see Borges and Shome get a deserved look. Also happy with Didic as I personally rate him a little higher than Zator in the CB position.

We need these 6 points to get ES out of hiding. If they play, they loose. We need to start to make them twitch a little

Younger fans will not be acquired through cable TV anymore they will be acquired through youtube, video games, friends, parents and local advertising. Casual fans will have to decide which streaming service provides the content most inline with their preferences in future and not depend on two big networks to tell them what to watch.
  14. 2 points
But I do I have high expectations. We can not afford to lose ground on ES if we plan to make the hex and I fully expect all the players called for these games to have high expectations. It is time for the depth to show what they can do.

Change happens faster than people think. 2 years ago explaining DAZN to people was like explaining time travel. Over Christmas my 78yr old uncle was telling me how much he likes watching epl on DAZN.

Godinho has double the amount of minutes, and 4pts above relegation... Elvas team is 2pts from the top. Its all relative.

Some people here have been dropping names that are far less deserving than Carl Haworth. I hope he gets the call.

I have a friend who works at BC Hydro who said this is actually at hot topic around the office. Sounds like it's moving and Hydro has no problem with it as long as they aren't paying. I can remember if it was in the 6 or 7 figures, but expensive nonetheless.

It would be nice to see Ballou Tabla step up and make a statement with some good play at a camp like this.
  21. 2 points
Oh god. Johnson and Wotherspoon pulling the strings in midfield. What a waste of a game that was.
  22. 2 points
Have learned that this also camp includes 1-2 other friendlies against Caribbean opposition. Looks like Herdman is going Hex or bust. Awesome IMO. Also learned that there will be at least 2-3 new faces for their first MNT camp, including possibly a player from the U17 World Club team. The squad will apparently have a healthy dose U23 eligible players.

I'm quite pessimistic about our chances against Iceland as I feel their players will have had developmental systems in place that will result in better cohesion even though they're not the A squad. When I first saw that we were playing Iceland, my reaction was: "We're trying to gain points, right, and not lose them?" I don't have any confidence that without our international players, we would defeat even a domestic Icelandic side. So, I'm glad to see the 2 additional matches against Barbados. I think we don't come out of this any further ahead points-wise. I wouldn't be surprised if what we gained against Barbados (+2.25) was basically given back against Iceland (-1.89). I'd be ecstatic with two 1-0 wins over Barbados (+1.13 and 1.12 points) and a 0-0 draw with Iceland (+0.61 points), giving us an additional 2.86 points (3 with rounding).

Barbados topped their group in nations league C with 6 points, edging Cayman Islands on goal difference. They lost to Caymen Islands and Saint Marin and only beat USVI 1-0. Regardless, they have Gold Cup 2021 qualifying against Guyana in March, so we should be very good prep for them. I don't expect them to lay down as they'll be doing some very real work ahead of their qualifiers.

No. He played U19 friendlies with Belgium. Likely no one-time switch needed.

El Salvador's game vs Iceland will be a "training match". They decided not to play the USA.

Yeah, I considered that. However, even when Elva was on poorer B3 teams, he was not a regular starter. My point was, just because Godinho gets called, it shouldn't be automatic that Elva does. Other points, Godinho is two years younger, and we have much more attacking than defending depth. Having said all this, I wouldn't mind seeing Elva called, and wish him all the best!

Good for Godinho for getting another shot. Elva is a year too old for the U-23 team, but I wouldn't mind seeing him called for this camp.

Cable is a pay-service too. It is way more expensive than DAZN. For new viewers it is better to target younger families and this likely is not on cable TV.

Surprise #1... There will definitely be more of these. Maybe we'll see more guys from the 3. Liga? If Marcus gets called then Canniggia definitely should too! NVM... Remebered hearing this may have a U23 focus.
  41. 1 point
This would be the camp to call him. Probably Lareya would be the only RB called unless I am missing someone. But the guy just had his best season as a pro at age 30, why not call him? If you say he isnt getting any better....well a move to RB resulted in his highest scoring season at 29, so who knows if he can still imporve? Vitoria has been playing his best football for Canada this year at age 32. ZBG, Godinho, Cordova etc..ehhhh...give Haworth a shot. Unless you are calling a youngster to prep him for U-23, thats useful too.

I thought about cancelling Onesoccer and doing the month to month for the 2020 season, but the cost is basically the same (month to month is 8 x 10 = $80 and one year is $75) since we won't have the free month for 2020 as a new subscriber, which even then would be just about the same.

Wow, we have a lot stronger North american based squad than 2015. We are much better at Keeper, midfield and striker...and the back line prob is better now too. It gives me some warm and fuzzy feelings.

Big doubt on Fraser Aird, League 2 in Scotland just doesn’t cut it when we already have Laryea and possibly Brault-Guillard available. I would love to see James though

    Fraser Aird

Fraser Aird would be a huge hit in the CPL. When he was with the Caps people wanted to hate on him but he became a fan favorite because as you see from this incident he's just a real dude who wears his heart on his sleeve. Say what you want about his level of play but he's always hustling and sticking his nose in. Hes fun to watch. Would be a great hero/villain for the league

Just got back from the match and a post match quick meal with some newly made Besiktas supporter friends. First of all, Genclerbirligi went down to 9 men by the 35th minute but took the lead in the meantime (ex-Liverpool keeper Karius could have done better). Besiktas looked disjointed in the first half and even though Hutch didn't play poorly, there was little movement off the ball for him. The second half was much better but that's because Hutch played some amazing through balls for the 2nd and 3rd goals and a nice flick to Vida for the first. The goal he scored was a deft touch that any striker would have been proud of. The one thing I noticed was that Hutch almost played as a 3rd striker; many times, he was the furthest forward but ran his butt off to be the outlet for the defenders. He was by far, the man of the match and I felt proud to be a Canadian in a stadium full of passionate Turks. At the end of the match, Hutch brought his kids out and saluted the ultras in their end. The locals really love our captain.

That's tragic and devwstating news, my thoughts with him and his family. Not sure he will ever read this and I don't know his mom, but I'm confident she must have always been incredibly proud of him and the young man he is becoming. Just know that every single V will always have your back.
