Valour now has more home points than away points in the Fall season, and it's even on the combined table. We are also only 1 point out of tied for third overall in the combined table. The combined table is tight in the middle, and it's probably going to finish close. Valour is done playing Forge & Cavalry and I like our chances of finishing 3rd or 4th overall *I manually entered all of this, so if anyone spots a mistake, let me know.6 points

These are exactly the numbers I was expecting, tbh. I hope they weren't banking on much more, not at least for the first few years. A financially profitable (or even revenue-neutral) national league is surely a long-term proposition at best in the eyes of any reasonable soccer analyst in this country.5 points

Believe what the CPL itself has said : The league will eschew the franchise-ownership model used by MLS, and instead opt for a “club-based style” built “from the ground up.” https://www.wakingthered.com/2018/1/12/16882202/canadian-premier-league-cpl-welcome-news-in-turbulent-week-for-canada-soccer “But we are looking at a club-based style. We are not looking at a franchise system. https://the11.ca/promotion-relegation-independent-club-system-the-future-of-canpl-as-seen-by-its-new-commissioner/ There's other articles where its stated the CPL is following the club based5 points -

"Delighted"? I think that's a bit much for an expected result. We drew the States in 2012, 2013 and were minutes away in 2016... since that time we have improved and they have gone down a bit. I think expectations need heightening.4 points -

Echo that. 2020 will be interesting in that I expect we're going to see more focused marketing, which will be helpful, and all around better, and more, off-field organization on every level. Not just from Valour but hopefully the league as a whole. Everybody is still learning, the brass, the marketing staff, THE FANS. Better than fair launch but lots of work yet to turn this league into something of an institution. Shout out to the usual suspects at Red River Rising, who've gone above and beyond the call of duty all season long, as well as with the powers that be at Nicoli4 points

C’mon, take off your rose coloured glasses. We’re doing very well presently, yes, but that doesn’t take us to their level. I reject that we need to heighten expectations - I would argue the opposite. We haven’t had a meaningful result since maybe Honduras at home in WCQ. And our recent tests v Mexico and then Haiti were failures. Just because David and Davies are promising, doesn’t mean the USA doesn’t have a superior lineup in the vast majority of positions. To draw this game would be a sign of progress, the first real evidence of progress in a very long time.3 points -
They're looking far & wide. “It’s massive for us. I might have been one of those who have said it in the past that this province has been overlooked,” said Paulus. “But credit to John Herdman and Mauro Biello, because they’re out scouring now. They’re looking at the CPL, they’ve made that very clear. They’ve come in and done a club visit with us a few weeks back, talking about our young players as well as our under-20 program coming up, what we have in different age groups. We’ve got players in our program right now that will certainly get looked at for the U-20s and U-23s.” That3 points

I totally agree. I work with marketing and so often now they shun traditional media outlets for digital and I've noticed the results have been poor. With digital media you often get lost in a maze of digital noise and you can get stuck in your own bubble. I think synergy between traditional media, physical space and digital is needed. They all help drive each people to each other3 points

Are people here supporters of this league? Or are they just here to overanalyze every minute aspect of the league while people like me try and make it work with our wallets? If you claim to be a supporter of this league, and you are not contributing to the financial health of the league via spending your money on the product (whether it be tickets, merchandise, a subscription to OneSoccer, etc), then you are a part of the problem. Not rose coloured glasses at all, just being realistic. I'd be okay with a draw but not delighted as it would not be a sign of progress. As Herdman even said, we need to beat a rival to progress... anything less is just the same old mediocrity. This USA team is not good enough to celebrate drawing against.. at home. A top world team or even Mexico? Sure, all day.2 points -
Met a few TFC fans outside BMO field yesterday and asked if they were attending the Oct 15th game. Their response "Altidore and Bradley are playing in that game right?".......sometimes I wonder if TFC fans are really soccer fans. A lot seem to be totally clueless about the CMNT. On a brighter note met a young soccer fan today who told me he has seen a lot of ads for the game.2 points

At the moment, both Canada and the USA look pretty even. The US advantage is only its historical superiority. If the canucks overcome that barrier and take advantage of playing at home, Canada will get a precious 3 points .2 points

You can't play a season just May to Sept and be taken seriously. That's ridiculous I think it would be smart, maybe a bye week in the summer, where teams can book friendlies with Euro teams or any other would be great More games on traditional media, tv and radio as well as playoffs are no brainers for me I also think an additional Concacaf spot would be key2 points -

2019 Canadian Premier League Attendance

Screen shots won't show accuracy one way or another because we are talking announced attendance which is tickets distributed(what pro sports teams announce), not turnstile. Revenue comes from the 4776 so that's the relevant figure in that regard and is 100% accurate. Poor weather in Winnipeg no doubt contributed to no shows, it was mentioned on the broadcast how hard it was to remove water from the soaked turf. You continue to talk apples and oranges oxzzie, and seemingly confuse announced attendance and turnstile numbers. If you want to discuss turnstile vs announced, look at p2 points -

Still remembering the USMNT calling out the "Eurosnobs" and dared them to play in CONCACAF. Later that night, Trinidad C team thrashed their Russia 2018 tickets. That team plays way too much at home...Gold Cup, Copa America, nearly all the friendlies When they HAVE to play on the road, they are as mediocre as we used to be. Last WCQ, they've only won ONCE in the road. Even at our most mediocre, they couldn't beat us at BMO. Playing too much at home? You think?2 points -

I don't know for sure but I assume the number for YouTube is only for those watching on YouTube. The Fury's opponents, given that they are all American, will be watching on ESPN+. YouTube is only for Canadians and those overseas. The USL setup is actually pretty great. All games are available and archived on YouTube and they typically do up highlight packages pretty soon after too. The level of professionalism can vary and is not as high as MediaPro, but it's free. Americans have to pay for ESPN+ but they are likely doing that anyway for other content.1 point

No Noble Okello for this squad. Not playing a MLS game for a full season - or ever! - is probably the reason. I've said this before, and I'll keep on about it: Though I agree we are capable of beating the USA, I would be delighted with a point. We haven't beaten them since 1985, and as much as we're improving, we have to admit this will be a tough task.1 point -

I can believe there being fewer than 75 highly engaged Y9 fans⁰. Would be more surprising elsewhere. If Thomas Nef is able to confirm, FCE are probably prime suspects. Before the account got deleted there was talk of the league being penalized due to clauses in the contract. The decision to give free subscriptions to season ticket holders certainly looked like a move to try to reach preset thresholds on viewers.1 point -

Kinda shocked that the number are THAT low. I strongly believe that it should be a free to user service at this juncture in the leagues history. The reality is only hard core CPL fans are going to pay $11.50 a month to watch CPL games. Those are not the fans we need to reach though to make this league viable. It is critical to find a way that casual fans can catch a game and follow some of the action. Besides the odd Saturday game on CBC the league has very little visibility in the media and there is no way for the casual fan to watch the games unless they pay a fairly high priced subscri1 point -

Valour's attendance has fallen the most. FCE & PFC have fallen a bit. Y9 is up but from a small base. HFX is also up a bit. Forge & Cavalry are close to flat. I don't want playoff expansion now as it would make a lot of the regular season matches not that meaningful. Less meaning leads to less passion & humdrum atmosphere. It means less intensity on the pitch which as Klinnsman & Euro MLS players have said leads to a too much of a comfortable playing experience that leads to a reality check in international competitions. Clubs like PFC, FCE & Y9 were already hurti1 point -
They were there for about a week. So, standard adjustment time for athletes. This was the same Canada we saw during the World Cup. Only difference was that in going for the equalizer, they left themselves too open and formation was probably too unbalanced post the subs. Otherwise, there was no offensive punch. The dynamism seen under Herdman has disappeared. Midfield is a mess. Fleming has stalled and rarely sees the ball. Sinclair is becoming slower and her touches are off too many times. To compound the issue, KHM plays too many defensive mids. Huitema isn't also Sincl1 point

If you went 1 vs winner of 2vs3, with 2 getting home field and same with 1, that would keep the top 4 maybe 5 teams hopping until the final weeks. 1 game winner takes all so the homefield advantage means something. And its only 1 more layer (but same time frame), 1 extra team making the playoffs, same number of games/season ends at same time than what we have now. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.1 point -
To bring it back to Millar, I would say that in his situation a loan is far better. Perhaps he would have made his competitve Liverpool debut with the other youngsters in that cup game, but playing time would otherwise be hard to come by. He is getting great minutes now at Kilmarnock, an above average SPL club. He could have a few more goal contributions, but I think it's only a matter of time before that happens. Funny, speaking of Liam I heard today on one soccer this that some people are suggesting Tristen Borges should perhaps have his spot in this camp, as Millar is not filling1 point
