This just goes to show many good Canadian players there were just crying out for an opportunity. How long will it be until CPL produces its first full Canadian international? Another milestone I am looking forward to.

Yea agreed Oxner is 'the man'. Other thoughts: Both teams had their chances. Either could have broken the draw several times. My ole pal Skublack looked like a deer in headlights. Nice to have zoom back the lad can run! Was one of the more entertaining 0-0 draws I have watched. Nice send off for Schaale at the end - he came over to the kitchen and we did a viking clap. He will be missed....... Isnt it awesome we have a league now? lol

Boy what a tedious thread. I thought Borges defending and working hard, tactically very precise, pressing high then dropping, in the 2nd half of the game yesterday, was very impressive. He is a rather complete player.

Ignoring the petty stuff that finds it's way into every gd thread in this sub forum... I am beyond thrilled to have this league and a hometown team. I've always been a fan of the sport but never really had a club to get attached to, now that has changed. Despite the location and some ticket price issues, I think Spruce Meadows is a fantastic venue for soccer and I am loving how the city is slowly but surely gaining interest and embracing this team. Up the Cavalry!

You could tell from the first post you were a baseball fan trying to make something fit that simply does not. Nowhere in the world are standings in football set out by % wins, ever. We are smart enough to figure things out and don't need what you are proposing, which is ridiculous: a points table with teams with lower points on top? Please no. I've never seen a league with more than 3 games difference, except MLS of course which is the absolute worse and they do help by putting points per game totals so you can compensate their poor scheduling policy--which having this "****" playoffs, as Ibra says quite rightly, you need to give some emotion to an otherwise meaningless regular season table.

Compared to what they will see in Honduras, what they experienced in Guatemala was very soft, in terms of fans and ambiance. Honduras will be nasty for the refs too. They are going to have to be tough as nails at home and will have to hurt them when they can, because most probably Olimpia are a more talented, deeper team.

Worth noting that Mauro Biello was at this match today. Wonder who he was taking a peek at. Chrisnovic Nsa was playing RB today and had an immense game - wonder if he might get a look for the CMNT. Fun match all together though. Probably one of the most exciting 0-0 draws I've watched. Good showcase for the league on CBC.
  18. 1 point
He did make a few mistakes but they were far outweighed by many solid interventions and the fact he actually understands how to DEFEND!
  19. 1 point
The thing that Garcia, Le Bourhis, and Gutierrez do that Thomas and Murrell do not is PUT PRESSURE ON THE BALL CARRIER instead of retreating faster than the French in 1940. That is called DEFENDING. Murrell and Thomas are comprehensively the WORST centre back pairing in CPL and the worst professional centre back pairing I have ever seen. The sooner we replace them, the sooner we can actually start winning. Like today.

Who would have thought that Oxner, a player seemed to just be a token local backup keeper, would beat out a T&T international. That’s what this league is all about - great stuff.

If Thomas was dropped and not injured we'd at least see him on the bench. And it would certainly be odd to see him come out after one of his best matches of the season. This is the second game in a row Valour has played with less than a full bench.

This kid is the best thing to happen to Canada football in just about every way possible. What a beauty to be in front of that many world class players at 18 as a Canadian and just think "F it, I'm singing Whitney Houston for initiation".

What's this @Binky sh_t? There is no @Binky. Just Binky! I not on the twitter, and I don't do Facebook, and I also don't own a smart phone, or post on one, or watch streamed soccer games on one. I'm just an old fashioned big-screen commercial broadcast kinda guy. As to when it comes to copying and pasting no-discernible-value stuff, I find that there is a whole bunch of worse no-discernible-value stuff that gets posted on this board than the statistical material that I post. So my answer to you is, respectfully, NO! Might I respectfully suggest you invest in a MacBook Air, or a MacBook Pro, and that way you will not experience the frustrations one has to put up with when depending so heavily on a smartphone!

"Follow the money. What a lot of people on here don't tend to consider is what could be attractive about staying in USL from an OSEG standpoint? If/when MLS stop expanding and the reserve teams get jettisoned to USL 1, the value of a USL Championship franchise could ramp up considerably, because USL plans to keep its numbers quite limited. " USL franchises value is based on the current expansion fee (8 million apparently) and is not necessarily the amount that one could sell their team for, how does this help OSEG as they're unlikely to sell for anywhere near that valuation even if they could find a buyer. How does the phantom value get capitalized on by OSEG in actuality? The reason that Fury are not keen on switching to CPL IMHO is $$$ they will save by staying put - they likely are paying their entry fee into USL (5 million roughly) over a 10 year period and don't want to pay a multi million dollar entry fee into CPL on top of still paying to USL for 7 more years as well.

The away leg would be a nice spectacle on TSN. Olimpia has a one of the best atmospheres in Concacaf. Maybe a reason why TSN won't show it. Wouldn't want to lend any credibility to the CPL

    2019 Canadian Premier League Attendance

I'm going to go with over, but it'll be close. I think Forge, HFX, and Valour should all be well above 4k average the rest of the way, but I guess if Valour continues to do poorly they could see a drop off. Cavarly's top attendance and average attendance have both gone up over the last 10 weeks, so I'm hoping that means their strong results and spotlight in the Voyageurs Cup is giving them a boost. Pacific, without actually dissecting the numbers I feel like they have been relatively steady, so I'm hoping that continues. Edmonton I hope they can hold steady, even if their numbers are low, I assume it is mostly made up of people that have been with them for the long haul from the NASL days. York 9 we shall see. They could go lower yet, but their games have been more entertaining recently. We'll see if that makes a difference or not. But the fact that the league has averaged over 4k without the home openers gives me hope that the league can average over 4k for the whole season.

Not withstanding the fact that my comments on the absurd suggestion that a 36-44 team league is "small" or "limited" were completely "rational" and came from a position of "emotional detachment", you come across as a massive prick for writing that. Who put you in charge? When did you become the gatekeeper of this discussion? Why do you feel this need to project an air of superiority all the time? Furthermore it's also complete ******** - we're talking about human beings, people who have emotions and are completely irrational all the time. Why might the Fury want to stay in USL? I dunno, maybe because they have emotions and are irrational? Why might the fans want them to stay? Could it be that they have emotions and are irrational? Why do I want them in the CPL? Well you see, as a human, I happen to have these things called emotions and sometimes they make me irrational. You can try to separate emotions from arguments regarding the Fury's decision but (a) you will fail and (b) if you somehow succeed, you will then be considering a fantasy and not the reality.

I've only watched bits and pieces, but I think some of the success that Mbongue and Assi have has been due (at least in part) to their size. I think Mbongue in particular is a big kid. His first goal against Mexico was because he outjumped and outmuscled the keeper and defender. I hope he gets some serious training with TFC and they don't just rely on his athleticism and size. Marshally-Rutty has been good, particularly the first game. I may have (perhaps unfairly) expected more of him though.

Sorry, the 36 team div-2 league that has added an average of 3 teams each of the last 4 seasons, the same league that was a 14 team div-3 league just 5 years ago, is planning to keep its numbers limited?

    The Road to Qatar.

I'd like another crack at Scotland. We drew them a couple years ago, and they are ranked well ahead of us so a win against them could garner some decent points. Plus I think if we could convince them to come here they could potentially draw a decent (hopefully pro Canadian) crowd. I think we are a better team now than we were at the time. Unfortunately we don't yet know the 2022 UEFA World Cup Qualifying format, but it would be even easier to schedule a team like them if they were in a position that losing a few ranking points won't make a difference to their qualifying chances.

MLS salary cap in 2018 was actually $4.035 million. That doesn't include a lot of things, like the bottom few players on the roster, and all the DP/TAM/GAM overspending that is allowed. Highest paid team in 2018 was TFC with $26,167,498.69. Lowest paid was Houston with $5,673,471.62. The cap doesn't ensure parity, and it no longer prevents reckless spending. All it does is make teams inefficient with their money, make the roster rules unknowable for fans, and no doubt cause awkward situations where some players are making literally 50+ times more money than some of their teammates.

Yeah, but it is almost better to have low attendance than to have such an obvious comparator as a double header where a ton of people actively leave rather than stay to watch what is then a free pro women's game.
