York9 doesn't fill their stadium if that was a regular league game against an MLS reserve team. USL should be a pretty clear warning that the CPL should not allow reserve teams in.

I think Concacaf have to kick Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana out of Nations League & Gold Cup if they are going to use this system for WCQ in the future. Would that be unfair on those teams? For sure. But its unfair for any team that plays and beats them if they are kept in given the new ridiculous over-emphasis on FIFA rankings which matches against them do not count towards. I can only think of one team that has had two victories against that trio of teams this year and by a combined score of 8-1, now who would that be.......?

    TFC 2019 Season

Yes, but if they recall Telfer it will only be so that they can trade him for Quincy Amerikwa (or another mediocre US striker who has just 1 goal to his name over the past two years, but he would seemingly fit the bill). Hamilton had 5 goals in 15 games for TFC this year in all competitions, a strike rate of one goal every 3 games. Vanney was saying yesterday that someone in the strike force other than Altidore needed to step up and start scoring. I assumed that was a shot at Boyd. Naturally then the logical move is to trade the guy who scores once every 3 games and has 5 times as many goals than the other two strikers combined. Sigh.

Did anyone see telfer tonight? He torched the impact and was the best guy on the field with a beauty goal and an assist.

I am actually happy for Hamilton. He was never going to get a fair shot with Vanney. Hopefully he now has an opportunity to show what he's got. Chapman needs to move as well. There have been many times where he should have started over the past 4 weeks and did not. He will stagnate if he stays put.

At CPL's early year one stage, games where the opposition is an established and well know high level pro team will draw more favorably for the lesser known first year CPL clubs more often than not, especially in a competition like the Voyageurs Cup. There won't be any "working more closely" between USA's D1 MLS and Canada's D1 Canadian Premier League and there doesn't need to be, each is and will continue to do their own thing. The American MLS isn't interested in working with the CPL and could care less about Canada's cup competition, they'd only be interested in putting farm/reserve teams in the CPL which would basically be a death blow for Canada's new league, a reason why CPL wants no MLS reserve or affiliate teams in its league, and rightfully so.

Quick thoughts on the game. It's a shame we conceded on two mistakes and that our best player of the season Ingham made one of the strangest, unnecessary challenges I've ever seen. I just hope all of the neutrals or walk up crowd enjoyed the show and want to come back, if so I think last night was a major success despite blowing the lead (I would have taken 2-2 regardless). Well done Y9!

We chatted with some people after the game and turns out the club was giving out free tickets at Vaughan Mills. But it seems like it was a good decision. One of these people happened to have worked for the Lynx over a decade ago, and they were so impressed by how professional the set up was. He had a lot of fun at the game, but his only skepticism is with the pitch. He said he'd be watching to away leg to judge how the squad performs. He said he'd definitely go buy tickets to more games

I suspect the Fury organization, after tonights match experience, are probably carrying at least some small portion of envy and regret. To be fair though, I think more than one CPL partner are also looking at what Wanderers have brought to CPL with some envy and admiration as well.

Under no other circumstance would I ever say this but....... congrats to York on a good showing tonight both with people in the stands and a great effort vs Impact. However what in the heck was Ingham thinking on that penalty? Montreal have him on the payroll??? lol

What an emotional roller coaster that was! Thiago scores a brilliant opening goal and most of us in the stands are praying the floodgates don't open up, but I'm proud of how the Wanderers hung in there to level and then tie it up again in the second half. The crowd was rather irritated at the disallowed goal as it looked good from my angle and then the Fury get the winner. I have to say that #58 (Barnathan) well I don't have anything good to say about him. Then the craziness after the final whistle as Barnathan talks trash to someone from the Wanderers (couldn't pick out who) and then when a couple of our guys go to confront him, he races to the dressing room. On a more serious note for the Wanderers was the shouting match between Langwa and Hart. Langwa stormed to the locker room after being subbed and did not come back and then the two almost came to blows at the final whistle as the players clapped the fans off at the Kitchen end. I'll leave it to Grasshopper to confirm what I saw but Langwa's days may be numbered. Great game and another great crowd! Terry

I think we have a better chance against Panama and Costa Rica. I get a 0.9% chance of making it. This is a brutally unfair format for anyone but Mexico and probably the US.

2-0 lead and a mind on the next game seems odd. Taking Osorio off for Mexico? etc etc. Herdman talks the talk, but demonstrated naivite when it mattered most. This was his first big test and he failed. One failed test is not enough, but it seems like they failed mentally, which is exactly the aspect of the team Herdman was most expected to improve?

    2019 Voyageurs Cup

Inter league play is always fun for all the usual reasons and in true cup fashion we're going to see 3rd round actions involving 3 different leagues on 3 very distinctive grounds. Two quirky but charming CPL venues in Wanderer's Grounds and Spruce Meadows and the just straight up arse York Lions Stadium. I LOVE IT. Wednesday evening is such a right off for me.

    2019 Voyageurs Cup

That happens in every league. Whenever a club wins the top league and the national cup, they'll take the higher spot (in this case, CCL) and the lesser spot (CONCACAF League) will go to the second-placed team in the league.

So jealous of CONMEBOL. I've suggested in past years a decagonal and was roundly shouted down here as being nuts. So what if it's 18 games with some dead rubbers. It's more fair than the previous process and way more fair than this current cup competition catastrophe.

    York9 - 2019 Season Thread

The crowd yesterday most definitely felt like 5,000. Nearly broke my thumb shaking the metal stands lol, still on a CPL high from yesterday. Last night was a perfect combination of Montreal coming into town, which pretty much all Y9/TFC/GTA soccer fans are in unison united against lol, and the $9 (or the $14 lol) tickets. We all know the prices were set too high for season seats for the regular season, and we can all see how many fans will come out when the tickets are priced at the level it should be. And Mtl of course lol. I'm 100% sure that Ben Z, the Y9 VP who's in charge of ticket pricing structure, got that message yesterday for sure. Also saw both PB and Clanachlan in the stands overlooking the crowd as well. Great night.

I don't know where they got that figure from though as I'm pretty sure they announced 4900 and change at the stadium with about 15 minutes go, though I suppose it's not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. I think what you say regarding the MLS team effect is true but that's mainly for the more dedicated out-and-out soccer fan or those involved in the grassroots game (particularly in Vaughan - there was a definite Vaughan flavour and feel to the crowd). There is still a lack of awareness issue overall for the team with the more casual sports or soccer fan in this area - I say this because not a week seems to go by when I ask someone if they are aware that York Region has a team and they respond that they didn't even know there was a Canadian league, never mind a team in York. They should definitely keep the $15 price, at least for the stands I was sitting in. I deliberately sat in the back row and the sightlines are still poor being so far from the field so I don't think you can charge high prices for that type of game experience and then also provide a somewhat congested game to watch because of the small field. That said, the whole game last night felt more professional than "bush league" in comparison to the old A-league games that I saw at the old York soccer stadium (or Centennial for that matter) in the Toronto Lynx days. Despite the gaffes at the back I think a lot of fans went home happy with what they saw and perhaps more will come back for the regular season games.

Wow what a special night at Wanderers Ground. What a ride i'm emotionally and physically drained but still buzzing at the same time. Some random thoughts in point form. 1) I disagree Ottawa was clearly the better team. I'm not disputing the point however I think the Wanderers should have came away with the draw. I will however say Fury had some clinical finishing. 2) Atmosphere was unbelievable - the stands were jammed standing room everywhere was 3 or 4 people deep it had a championship feel to the evening. Very Special. 3) Perea makes Wanderers another team altogether. I think we can contend for to of the fall table if we stay healthy. Now to Terry's point after the whistle was wild! I just spotted it in progress and said to my buddy 'I think Stephen Hart is gonna drop him'. I didnt know at the time it was Langwa but that was a massive exchange. Went on for a minute after I fist spotted it. It was close from my view to coming to blows. I mean im not sure how you come back after that one. You cant do that on the pitch. Thats something for behind closed doors. However maybe he gets a break because he is young and apologizes? Hard to say.

    The Road to Qatar.

According to @PaulCarr on twitter (former ESPN stats guy) the 6th ranked team in the Hex has an approximate chance of 15% of qualifying for the World Cup and even if we improve some of those odds above: 0.9x.0.75x0.6x0.5x0.35x0.3 to about 2%, ... it would mean if we thought we had even a 15% chance of just making the Hex, we'd be better off with the old format (assuming we can't make it to #6 in FIFA rankings)

    The Road to Qatar.

Going forward this is my assessment going forward As of June 14 Ranking points Multipliers / coefficient (Source FIFA)* The formula is complicated so only going with the multiplier, also beating teams higher than you score you more points* Gold Cup Group Stage X35 Gold Cup Group Knockout Round X40 Nation League group stage X15 Nation League group Championship X25 Current situation 30 points separates Canada from El Salvador and the 6th spot Gold Cup results ** El Salvador : 1W - 1L - 1D Panama : 2W - 1L Canada : 2W - 1L* *The game against Martinique got us no points **None of these teams won in the Quarter-Finals, no X40 bonus ***Haiti won a QF game but they are unlikely to have surpassed us in the next ranking ****Honduras having won only 1 game are likely to stay put *****Jamaica having advanced to Semi-Finals will make them somewhat out of reach ******Canada can battle for the 5th or 6th berth realistically How Canada can advance Winning both Cuba games give us (2 points X 15 bonus formula) Beating the US* twice (2 points X 15 formula) or 1 time +a tie (1.5 points X 15 Formula) Winning in the Semi-Finals against one of expected winners (Mexico, Honduras or Costa Rica) gives us (1 point X 25 Formula). We just need to advance and avoid Mexico Salvador cannot advance to Championship phase and even a perfect score against Montserrat, Dominican Republic & St. Lucia won't put them out of reach due to those teams being significantly lower in points than they are. Canada can easily leapfrog them by advancing to Championship phase* Panama is with Mexico and Bermuda in League A. They are unlikely to win a game and winning both games against Bermuda won't get them that far ahead, being ranked much lower than they are *Due to the difference between US and Canada, winning gets up a significant boost in points Conclusion At the end of the day, we are 100% in control of our destiny here and we're not in a situation where other team's performance will dictate if we make the Hex or not. Reaching the final would all but guarantee we make the Hex. Reaching the Hex by winning the group is also possible as the teams around us will be playing teams they are unlikely to beat or teams too low in the ranking to get them a good boost in points. Still beating the US is a must.

Piette is no starter for us. He is the guy you throw out there with 15 minutes left to protect a lead (Herdman sees this as per the KJ podcast). As such, Piette is one of the most important members of the squad, and his success in his role will be crucial to us winning qualifying games.

How could people even waste their time and money on such an idea? CSA would never allow it, MLS wouldn’t want them and I don’t think it’s viable even if the previous two came about. By 2026 Cavalry will be hopefully entrenched as it will be their 8th season.

I don't get why there is so much negativity here. Its all in our hands, no one got ripped off or special treatment. We can either win games to make it to the hex and take our chances there, or coast and play in the 7-35 bracket. Either way, ITS IN OUR HANDS. No one has gotten concacafed here. Saying this benefits the USA is ********, they got eliminated from the hex last time around. Why would they be confident this time around? How are they being favored exactly? Also, how can someone be so confident about finishing top 3 in the hex, while also being worried about coming out of the 7-35? There are realisticly 6 ok teams going for .5 spot in the 7-35, but 6 strong teams in the hex playing for 3 spots. We'll only know which route is better after the draw. If its conmebol, then yes, we must go for the hex, anyone else and i'd gamble on the 7-35 bracket.

I don't get it. People are acting like us making the hex is a given if we had the old method of qualification. This gives us a way better chance to make the hex, and if we miss the hex it gives us a better chance at qualifying than we would have in the past. Yall are loco.
