Liam played 81 mins in a hard fought tough 1-0 win for Kilmarnock!! He played like a lion and ran and ran and gave the right back fits. Only thing missing was a goal! Shattered again in the end and was subbed off but really happy with his effort and output. Happy he gave his all Killie now I’m 3rd with a possibility of Europa League!! Great for him to really build on his match fitness leading up to the gold cup!!

I’m 20 minutes into watching the PFC v Valour match and it just kind of hit me how real this is. Despite having traveled to Hamilton for the opening match, being able to sit down and watch a replay of this broadcast is surreal. The kits looks great, the production is top notch, the play is appealing and the sounds are amazing! Props to @ted and the Lake Side Buoys for that. The crowd wasn’t great but I’m confident this will grow and they will be amazing across the country. And Hoyle just scored, hammering home a pass from Petrasso after a few beauty plays. The ability to watch so many young Canadians is incredible. Guys I’ve followed for years but never been able to watch. Another crazy moment was loading the wiki pages for each club to have their rosters available. I just can’t believe how real this is after waiting so long... and then it hits me... I’m in Ottawa and the likelihood of the Fury joining are slim and dying. We may get a team, years from now... I’m so jealous. Maybe Laval will be my team and I’ll make the trek for home games.

Besiktas-Galatasaray will be on Bein Sports Sunday at Noon eastern, also on the Bein feed on DAZN. Not likely to see Larin, but Atiba will be wearing the captain’s armband for Besiktas.

I thought she was spot on, for me a proper, professional reffing job. You could only argue about picky details IMO. Watch Ganter later today and you'll see the difference (I hope not, but most likely).

Elva scores! Third goal for Wurzbürg, they were 0-2 up then 2-2 now leading 3-4...

Agreed. I can see that it could have been missed in the moment, but I don't see how something wasn't done retroactively

Wrong, or not necessarily right. Why? Because every new team, new market, new fan base, increases the value of CSB. You add to the value of something, that is a financial counterweight to any existing value you are buying into. If you joining CPL adds to the value of the league, that means you should get an incentive for the favour you are doing to the league: not be charged an exhorbitant fee, and thank you for joining. Further: excessive fees will kill any notion of promotion or relegation from the get go. The reason is that any team that pays that much to enter CPL will logically call out for a guarantee to stay in, to be protected from relegation. The more difficult it is to get in, the harder it will be to convince those clubs to risk their presence. Keep fees low, only marginally higher for new teams, so that the league can benefit from the seed money while ensuring its goal of reaching 12-14 teams. And stop making erroneous arguments about existing value--the existing value is grounded on the goal being upheld, not shot down.

I just have to say, I am enjoying this league even more than I originally expected. I think in the 12 years I have followed MLS, I could probably count on two hands the amount of games I watched that didn't involve TFC. I don't even think I had watched a single game that didn't involve one of the Canadian teams. And now I find myself grabbing a nap after work in order to stay up for an 11pm start time to watch a team from Victoria play a team from Winnipeg. Can't wait to watch more on Saturday!

He's doing great. Honestly, CPL could very well end up saving the careers of many talented young players like him, give them a chance to show what they can do when no one else is willing to.

Just to say, since I am not really a fan of the Cavalry: the venue looked right, spectators not only came but sat through a minor blizzard, the team was well prepared, the field was in good shape. So congratulations

Streaming the game, delightedly surprised about the grass pitch. Also, love the atmosphere of the stadium. Gives off a very homely mood. On a side note, oh boy that was a bad miss by the keeper
  17. 2 points
They have four Canadian starters (Langwa, Kourouma, N'sa and Ouattara, who has residency) and Bona and Schaale count as Canadian because they were drafted. They follow the same rules as everyone else; I'm not sure how you people follow this forum and don't understand how the roster rules work.

Nice to see a grass pitch, and also like those stands that start high and stay high up, better for fans. I also think the acoustics are good, we heard a lot of drum for Pacific, here we can hear the chants clearer, not sure why. Overall, a nice image and as I say, nice to see real grass. I think the reffing is good, bothers me that OneSoccer commentators might not understand it, and at times miss it.

They aren't official sources. The point of my argument... also, they ended up purging their locker room regardless so the salary/roster rule excuse doesn't stick anymore

I don’t want to badmouth the Fury too much. Let’s not poison the well in case they join CPL next season. They would still be a great addition to the league as an 8th team. The Ottawa market is important.

When Tim Hortons Field was built for the PanAm Games we were originally supposed to have the track and field events here, they got moved, to York University IIRC, thankfully the stands were built closer to the pitch with no track!

I'm not sure moving back to Canada from 3rd tier German would be considered wise for a large %, but there will always be cases where a move back home is indeed the wise choice which is what the CPL is all about. I think what we'll see in the future is young Canadians more reluctant to make the jump to lower tier Europe when we have a good competitive league here at home *side note : good to see Elva finding some success in Germany

Don't know. I'll assume yes, thought. Both could be bought, sight unseen, when you purchased seasons. Discounted of course, and made available to the season pass holders before the general, as a sort of perk I suppose, but that plan never came off for whatever reason. So that being said I'm not sure how much inventory will be available tomorrow. I ordered an XL, knew it was probably going to be small but I have a Nike XL in Euro sizing for my last Celtic shirt and it's smallish but Ok so figured I'd give it a go. Wearable but too tight generally. A good 10 years too late for me to wear shirts that way anymore. Man, if you've got shoulders or a "working man's back" they get real tight across the chest real fast. LOL. Wee Elf got a junior and she's in the same boat as me. It's wearable, but yeah, she'd rather something a bit bigger. Will try a ladies small maybe. Anyway, 1st rate quality, super sharp and comfy but that stretch fit material that's been popular for so long. BTW, looks like there's a couple more sections opened up along with the rest of 127 & 132 (west grandstand) for tomorrow's launch. ☺️

My synopsis, in no way 100% accurate, but what I’ve gathered; - Fury thought the quality would be too low for what their customers wanted - Fury thought their wages would be too high despite CPL concessions on roster regs - Fury may have had reservations about paying more league entry fees - Fury had concerns about the viability of the league - everyone said they would keep talking but that hasn’t happened, apparently no dialogue since last summer - a bunch of Fury staff and mouth pieces ran their mouth about the CPL The OSEG partners are 3 of the largest developers in eastern Ontario, Jeff Hunt and John Pugh. Hunt runs the sports side of the business with Pugh, a CSA board member, is the head of the Fury. The bulk of the long term revenue for the org will come from the development around the stadium which is why the money guys are in. None have a long standing relationship with the CFL as they all came in with the RedBlacks. The developers and Hunt all seem like reasonable guys, it’s Pugh who seems to have had a few confrontations in the past but who knows what the reasoning is.

I don't suspect we will hear much about the CPL from TSN as they are tied in to MLS. And since they are losing the Premier League rights, I think they will go all in on MLS while CBC/Sportsnet should benefit with the CPL. I can understand them just going with 20 games to start, but should this (or should I say when this) all takes off there will probably be more games.

Beautiful goal by Osorio today. 3 goals & 4 assists in 8 games this season for him. Chapman getting some minutes and a goal as well. Glad to see the both Doneil Henry & Jonathan Osorio having great seasons. I'm sure there will still be some to find ways to criticize the two but they'be both been very good this year.

Probably because they’re foreign players. When they say 50% +1 Canadians it’s expected that it’s 50%+1 Canadians and not needing to remember made up U sports rules and every player’s residency.
  36. 1 point
Yeah, it's not the thread for it but the optics look poor. Shouldn't be talking about expansion if they can't get 7 teams at their self-imposed Canadian roster rules, or they need to drop the quota if they go to 10 teams. On a positive note, the crowd and atmosphere in Halifax look great.

http://northerntribune.ca/saskatchewan-canadian-premier-league-location/ ... Here’s what Belan said when we asked if Regina was still on the cards as an alternate location: Joe Belan: “I don’t think it is at the moment, because we don’t think that it’s got as attractive stadium offers. We would like to involve Regina – ... If there’s anything that we can do to help bring games to Regina at certain locations, then we’re going to look to do that.” ...

Expect it will be quite a bit busier tomorrow. For those who bought shirts with their seasons you can exchange for you fit tomorrow on if you need to.

Definitely agree with the bolded part. I was very excited to see Pacific FC play again, and to see Valour play such a different formation was exciting as a neutral fan of the league. I was worried that only having seven teams would be detrimental, but now I feel like I can intimately get to know each team, its personality and key players etc. and see them grow week to week. You put it well -- it's like I'm waiting for the next episode to see what the new twist or story line is.

Its a rorschach test. Many people have made up their mind. Non-believers will always bring up previous mistakes, he would have to go error free, no red, no penalties for the rest of the season for some to change their opinion. For me I have always been a big fan and with him coming into his prime years hopefully he'll continue to mature. Plus he is the whitecaps leading scorer...I'm just saying....

Agreed, although the general public wont know that. They see from the promo it's the team that won USL II last season. That's as good a spin as they can do to dress it up. The hardcore know but they would be there regardless. I dont know If SMF would be a long term plan. Building at exhibition was expected. They wont take the lines of the field at SMF unfortunately. It's the minor football stadium.
