    Liam Millar

Liam played 81 mins in a hard fought tough 1-0 win for Kilmarnock!! He played like a lion and ran and ran and gave the right back fits. Only thing missing was a goal! Shattered again in the end and was subbed off but really happy with his effort and output. Happy he gave his all Killie now I’m 3rd with a possibility of Europa League!! Great for him to really build on his match fitness leading up to the gold cup!!

Vote for the CPL to be in FIFA 20!

Hey guys and gals, let’s all vote for the CPL to be in FIFA 20! We need to make this happen! https://www.fifplay.com/fifa-20-leagues-vote/

I thought she was spot on, for me a proper, professional reffing job. You could only argue about picky details IMO. Watch Ganter later today and you'll see the difference (I hope not, but most likely).
  4. 3 points
Agreed. I can see that it could have been missed in the moment, but I don't see how something wasn't done retroactively
  5. 3 points
Wrong, or not necessarily right. Why? Because every new team, new market, new fan base, increases the value of CSB. You add to the value of something, that is a financial counterweight to any existing value you are buying into. If you joining CPL adds to the value of the league, that means you should get an incentive for the favour you are doing to the league: not be charged an exhorbitant fee, and thank you for joining. Further: excessive fees will kill any notion of promotion or relegation from the get go. The reason is that any team that pays that much to enter CPL will logically call out for a guarantee to stay in, to be protected from relegation. The more difficult it is to get in, the harder it will be to convince those clubs to risk their presence. Keep fees low, only marginally higher for new teams, so that the league can benefit from the seed money while ensuring its goal of reaching 12-14 teams. And stop making erroneous arguments about existing value--the existing value is grounded on the goal being upheld, not shot down.

5 games in 14 days for Toronto FC. Let's hope Laryea and some other young Canadians receive some minutes.

I just have to say, I am enjoying this league even more than I originally expected. I think in the 12 years I have followed MLS, I could probably count on two hands the amount of games I watched that didn't involve TFC. I don't even think I had watched a single game that didn't involve one of the Canadian teams. And now I find myself grabbing a nap after work in order to stay up for an 11pm start time to watch a team from Victoria play a team from Winnipeg. Can't wait to watch more on Saturday!

He's doing great. Honestly, CPL could very well end up saving the careers of many talented young players like him, give them a chance to show what they can do when no one else is willing to.

This game should established that Gutierrez and Borges are starters
  10. 2 points
They have four Canadian starters (Langwa, Kourouma, N'sa and Ouattara, who has residency) and Bona and Schaale count as Canadian because they were drafted. They follow the same rules as everyone else; I'm not sure how you people follow this forum and don't understand how the roster rules work.

Nice to see a grass pitch, and also like those stands that start high and stay high up, better for fans. I also think the acoustics are good, we heard a lot of drum for Pacific, here we can hear the chants clearer, not sure why. Overall, a nice image and as I say, nice to see real grass. I think the reffing is good, bothers me that OneSoccer commentators might not understand it, and at times miss it.
  12. 2 points
Early in the season but two players that have really impressed me through 1.25 games are Guiliano Frano and Zoom Langwa.

They aren't official sources. The point of my argument... also, they ended up purging their locker room regardless so the salary/roster rule excuse doesn't stick anymore

I don’t want to badmouth the Fury too much. Let’s not poison the well in case they join CPL next season. They would still be a great addition to the league as an 8th team. The Ottawa market is important.

I'm not sure moving back to Canada from 3rd tier German would be considered wise for a large %, but there will always be cases where a move back home is indeed the wise choice which is what the CPL is all about. I think what we'll see in the future is young Canadians more reluctant to make the jump to lower tier Europe when we have a good competitive league here at home *side note : good to see Elva finding some success in Germany

My synopsis, in no way 100% accurate, but what I’ve gathered; - Fury thought the quality would be too low for what their customers wanted - Fury thought their wages would be too high despite CPL concessions on roster regs - Fury may have had reservations about paying more league entry fees - Fury had concerns about the viability of the league - everyone said they would keep talking but that hasn’t happened, apparently no dialogue since last summer - a bunch of Fury staff and mouth pieces ran their mouth about the CPL The OSEG partners are 3 of the largest developers in eastern Ontario, Jeff Hunt and John Pugh. Hunt runs the sports side of the business with Pugh, a CSA board member, is the head of the Fury. The bulk of the long term revenue for the org will come from the development around the stadium which is why the money guys are in. None have a long standing relationship with the CFL as they all came in with the RedBlacks. The developers and Hunt all seem like reasonable guys, it’s Pugh who seems to have had a few confrontations in the past but who knows what the reasoning is.

Pumped up for tomorrow despite the chilly weather on tap.

One final note from the game, if the Wanderers had kept a clean sheet, the fans would have had free taters from Mary Brown's Fried Chicken...LOL!!

At least he gives an accurate number. The game report on the official CPL website originally said 6,200, now says "6,000 odd supporters".

Most promising young player in CPL so far. He's been active, runs hard, wins balls, is creative and gets some great shots away. This guy will be in MLS pretty quick at this rate.

Forge need a striker.. Cyle Larin on loan?
  23. 1 point
Well that is two matches where you could say Forge got less than they deserved. They certainly look better than a point from two matches. Halifax has some tough pieces, and you can also see, experienced players. They put on Firth, who I understand is local and a teen, he got the ball caught up a few times in his feet, has to get used to the pace. Overall a well-fought match, and toughly played. Thought the ref was just where we'd want them to be, you can argue about details, but overall, that is right imo. Finally about the pitch. It looks nice but has some rough patches, judging by bounces. It is a bit slow too, oddly, but I don't mind that, unlike artificial where the ball just bounces and rolls like on a parking lot. Surely as the season progresses the field will be sorted out, as it looks like they put a lot of work into it. That colour combination, overall, deep blue vs. orange, very sharp on tv.

Probably because they’re foreign players. When they say 50% +1 Canadians it’s expected that it’s 50%+1 Canadians and not needing to remember made up U sports rules and every player’s residency.

Simeon Jackson went 90 in a 1-1 draw. Millar went 81 in a late 1-0 win. Zanatta went 89 in a 1-1 draw. Paton came on in the 30th in a 3-2 loss. Trafford went 65 in a 1-0 win. Aird stayed on the bench.

HFX Wanderers are looking so much better with a game under their belt compared to last week! Very impressed.
  28. 1 point
Yeah, it's not the thread for it but the optics look poor. Shouldn't be talking about expansion if they can't get 7 teams at their self-imposed Canadian roster rules, or they need to drop the quota if they go to 10 teams. On a positive note, the crowd and atmosphere in Halifax look great.
  29. 1 point
Surprised by the lack of actual Canadian players in Halifax's lineup. Seems very MLSy to consider multiple players as domestics. Also surprised Choiniere, Roberts, and Zajac aren't in the starting lineup.

Better than forecast earlier in the week. Sunny and 11 C is forecast by kickoff, but windy. Certainly could be worse. If we're taking bets on attendance, put me down for 12k.

http://northerntribune.ca/saskatchewan-canadian-premier-league-location/ ... Here’s what Belan said when we asked if Regina was still on the cards as an alternate location: Joe Belan: “I don’t think it is at the moment, because we don’t think that it’s got as attractive stadium offers. We would like to involve Regina – ... If there’s anything that we can do to help bring games to Regina at certain locations, then we’re going to look to do that.” ...

Sun is shinning, birds are singing AND THE KITS ARE IN. Picked up ours. Very sharp, too small of course. Steady flow of people through The Bomber Store when I was there. Expect it will be quite a bit busier tomorrow. For those who bought shirts with their seasons you can exchange for you fit tomorrow on if you need to.

Joe never shifted his focus exactly. He was always investigating both cities, but was leaning toward Saskatoon right from the beginning. There were some opportunities that might have tipped the balance in Regina’s favour, but there are significant advantages that Saskatoon has over Regina that make it make more sense.

Agreed, although the general public wont know that. They see from the promo it's the team that won USL II last season. That's as good a spin as they can do to dress it up. The hardcore know but they would be there regardless. I dont know If SMF would be a long term plan. Building at exhibition was expected. They wont take the lines of the field at SMF unfortunately. It's the minor football stadium.
