I just bought a case of Sleeman's today. If I had known about the Moosehead sponsorship a few hours earlier I probably would have given them my business. Next time then. I guess I better get through this case ASAP.

Yeah, yesterday I set up the game to record, as well as CBC news, Sportsnet Central, and Sportscentre on that day just in case any of them talk about the game. Oh right, I guess I should set up the TFC game to record too when I get around to it since I'll miss it while in Hamilton. Now begins TFC's "second fiddle" years.

I don't think this point can be understated. They amount of media attention and local energy a Jets or Flames playoff run would have consumed in each of those cities is significant. The landscape is much clearer for the soccer organizations to make their mark.

Two Solitudes 5/24, recap of expansion talk http://sportspodcastingnetwork.com/2019/04/24/the-two-solitudes-soccer-podcast-free-preview-canpl-expansion-talk/MW -Laval/Montreal-Bunbury top choice but other group. 2020 start most likely -NB rumours our there. Not Moncton though. Isn’t ownership interest there. Saint John could be it with Moosehead partnership announced. Biggest corporate center in the province (Irving, McCains). Fredericton government city, transient population would make it difficult. Important for another eastern team with Halifax being so isolated. Maybe 2021 -no real word on Quebec City yet but would make sense if there are two groups interested in Montreal to try and convince one to go there for the natural rivalry. Talked up Laval in general -Ontario team close is out of left field. Pickering or Durham (Oshawa) region. Might be closer to 2021 than 2020. Possible connected to other real estate deals/renovation to stadium and further development of other projects. Big money name attached (billionaire) Around Church/Bailey area, near power plant/lake, possibly as part of Woodbine development. -rumblings of western GTA (Halton/Oakville) interest but nothing concrete yet. Maybe 2021. Brought up the Caldwell hiring -KW still in the mix. Barry McLean is figurehead/involved heavily but stadium issue holding back. 2021 or 2022 play -London and Windsor in play but long term and not hearing much -Saskatchewan (most likely Saskatoon) further along. Figures 2020 likely -his guess would be 2020-Durham/Pickering, Saskatoon, Montreal/Laval -thinks 2 teams a year for 3-4 years until hit 16

I'm reeeeeeaaaaaaaaally hoping he's referencing Moncton. Fastest growing city in the province, ready-to-use stadium, perfect location for out-of-towners from NS and PEI, and a strong Acadian connection. We already know there's some interest, so maybe they've finally found an investor. This would be great! Also, Saint John is a hole.

    CPL Stadium Thread

No. And of course.! No, in that no matter what happens at a local level or a national level stadiums will exist for whatever comes next. I think this CPL thing is going to be around for a long time to come but individual owners? Maybe not so much. New money reinventing the wheel in an existing CPL market shouldn't have infastructure costs discouraging them from entering that market, not as much as it has in the past anyway. And of course in that I'm going to chase down this Heineken with a Keiths before heading out for a little BBQ at a pals. Gimme a break! REALLY rough year at work already and it's only April.

    TFC 2019 Season

He actually has 4 goals in 4 games if you add the Champions league match and 5 goals in 5 games if you add the TFC2 match. On the latest KJ/Caldwell podcast Caldwell said that Vanney doens't trust Hamilton yet and has good reason not do because he hasn't been consistent. I guess he wasn't referring to the recent past. I wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton doesn't start, I got a slight sense of that from Vanney's post-game comments that he was already coming up with reasons why that wouldn't be the case. It could probably be spun as "I wanted to keep Jordan in his role as super-sub based on how well it worked last time" or something like that. You also almost get the sense that if he doesn't score in every game, he will get benched. Hopefully I'm wrong.

    CPL TV Contract

Personally, I will be watching on CBC when possible as a way to reinforce my personal preference for TV-based offerings. Streaming will be there for the rest, but when I can show my support for games-on-TV, that will be the route I take. Entirely based on personal preference though. As for which one is better for CPL, I suspect they will be paying close attention to all viewership numbers regardless of platform.

I’m quite pleased the way this has all turned out so far, I remember the mandate to land a pro soccer franchise and when it was near expiration there were rumours surfacing of other groups wanting to take the exclusive rights and bring a PDL or USL team to Hamilton, that wouldn’t have worked IMHO! Thankfully Young was patient and able to overcome several obstacles such as no present Canadian league and the law suit with the City of Hamilton and the CPL was formed with Forge being a flagship club! Young recognized the importance of rivalries and the thirst for a Canadian league, Saturday will be the culmination of lots of ups and downs for us Soccer fans in The Hammer, I think it will be worth the wait!

I like Cracked Canoe.....but considering Hop City is joined at the hip with Moosehead, I expect to see their selections at games, if this deal encompasses stadium offerings that is. It’s time to update that box.....unless that is your way of giving the middle finger to Rogers to which I say good job.

Hey!!!! That's my hometown! Port City, oil refinery, definitely a blue collar city. There is the Canada Games Stadium (UNBSJ) which seats up to 5000 for big events. I saw Canada play there for a qualifyer in the late 80's and saw Atlantic selects play an exhibition game versus Winnipeg (CSL)....and home of Moosehead Brewery.

And the brewery town would be Saint John, NB. Definitely no one talking about that! edit: Definitely Saint John. Rollins says it’s a market no ones talked about but is close to a town that has been discussed quite a bit and that it would be a natural rival for a team that doesn’t currently have one.

Recap Duane Rollins CPL expansion bits from Soccer Today 4/23 -full details on Two Solitudes later this week. Montreal could be ready summer season but will wait most likely to avoid confusion -no update on Ottawa. If sanctioning revoked odds are the team would fold up shop. But market they want into -hearing good things about three other markets, two barely discussed. One on the west, discussed a lot. Chelsea fan out west from the Voyageurs would be happy (whatever that means) -Other two would be rivals. One for a team that doesn’t have one (Halifax? My guess) and not a city that has been talked about a lot? Followed tonight by

The big difference with Tim Hortons Field is connecting the 2 stands is the largest outdoor bar in Canada. That huge social viewing area is what differentiates it from BMO or the other old school fields. Its about gameday experience and a 700 person bar makes a great gameday experience.

    2019 CONCACAF U17 Championship

Update on the Dallas Cup and Generation Adidas tournament. Both tournaments probably the most prestigious tournaments we have here in North America. The Dallas Cup especially where many former and present day international soccer stars played in as youth players. TFC Academy U12 boys win Dallas Cup U12 division over FC Dallas MLS Academy U12 boys 3-0 in the final . TFC U16 boys win 1-0 in their final winning the U16 boys Dallas Cup. TFC boys U15 boys lose their Genneration Adidas Final on penalty kicks to Chivas Guadalajara.

Nice article really enjoyed watching him play here in Toronto for TFC. I’m glad he got to experience winning the MLS Cup in 2017 and the Supporters Shield along with the Voyageurs Cup. He played a major role in TFC’s magical season in 2017 and also played a major role in that magical playoff game between Montreal and Toronto in the 2016 MLS eastern conference championship second leg game at BMO Field . He is a very useful player and might still be able to contribute even with our national team especially as a super sub.

That is awesome. I tend to buy the local craft brews (usually Upstreet, PEI Brewing Company and Copper Bottom for those interested...) but for inexpensive cooler filler in the summer I now always go for Moosehead. They are the last one standing among the big Canadian-owned brewers - all the others have been gobbled up by multinationals. Very fitting beer sponsor for the CPL. And Moose green is pretty tasty :)

Curcija and Reid go 90 for Le Havre II against Bastia-Borgo (1-2). Le Havre II are now dead-last and bound for relegation. They can still avoid It, but then they should start winning games. 1. FC Köln II slaughtered #2 RW Oberhausen 1-6 on Sunday. Boakeye was the first sub for Köln in the 63rd minute. However, all of their goals were already made by that point. EDIT: Charles-Andreas Brym played 86 minutes for Lille II in a 2-1 win over Fleury-Mérogis. Didn't score this game but is on 9 in 17 (13 starts) so far.

Big thanks to Jamie and James for helping me get my tickets sorted out. Long day ahead on the 27th, but gonna be so worth it. Work from 4pm to 10-11 on Friday night, bus from North Bay at 2am, bus from Toronto to Hamilton after that, have a few drinks with everyone before the game, be in a moment of bliss for 2 hours, figure out what to do after until midnight when I take the bus back up to North Bay, then get home at 5:30am and sleep until it's time for PFC vs. HFX. Even though this isn't a "Canada" event, I will be there with my Voyageurs scarf celebrating a fantastic day in Canadian soccer history!

http://northerntribune.ca/forge-fc-major-league-soccer/ ... So, Young and Mitchell had to figure out how they could somehow make money from a soccer team in Hamilton, because the home of the Tiger-Cats depended on it. Shooting straight for the big guys, the pair flew to New York City to have a discussion with Major League Soccer executives to see about Hamilton becoming an expansion team...

Because they've signed an odd German, or two, have a guy from Panama lined up, because basically they are signing a few key pieces internationally, and rather randomly it seems. If you have guys who were in Europe very recently, like Simpson as well, the most likely you have players you know very well you can trust in and whose signing would be strategic. Like Hart has done in Halifax. Like in fact most of the other coaches. Ours is the only one of all the league who has not signed a player they know personally. In any case, the local boys story is nice but if the level is not good enough, especially for the crucial subs, they'll change the BC tune fairly quickly.
