Zap2it.com hasn't changed yet so their CBC channels for that time show 'Surviving The Fundy Footpath' at 1pm and 'Free Reins' at 2pm. Fundy was originally broadcast on Feb 7/18 and Reins on Feb 22/18 With the guidance of three seasoned hikers, novice Bruce Persuad attempts the Fundy Footpath, one of Canada's toughest hikes. A farm owner in Nova Scotia offers a brand of horse therapy to special needs children. Oh oh! I can see some grumpy grandpa in the east with a preprinted TV guide rampaging about eastern Canadian culture being pushed aside by Ontario teams' sports! Gramps, HFX Wanderers will be on within a few weeks!

    CPL U-20

Cavalry FC and FC Edmonton will both be entering teams in the Alberta Major Soccer League this season. Does anyone have info on whether other clubs are running U-20 teams? I would assume Valour would run a team in the MMSL and Wanderers in the NSSL. I would have assumed Forge and York 9 would place teams in League 1 Ontario, but I figure that news would have already been released if that were the case. Not sure about Pacific, but guessing they would put a team in whatever the highest level of soccer is on the Island.. At any rate, I am interested to see what the other clubs do. Perhaps this thread can be used to track any developments and results for CPL U-20 teams.

30 CanPL dreams 30 days out

It’s been 9,305 days. 310 months. 223,320 hours. The Toronto Blue Jays were 20 days away from winning their first World Series. Bill Clinton was running for President. And Canada had just lost its professional soccer league. When the Winnipeg Fury finished off their upset of the Vancouver 86ers on Oct 4, 1992, that was that. The dreams of the 1986 generation were dead and the dreams of the next were dead on arrival. Although the game lived on at the D2 level and, eventually, MLS came to fill a tiny part of the void. In exactly one month the long, hopeless, depressing walk in the woods will end. When Forge FC kicks-off against York 9 we can finally stop talking about what we don’t have and instead focus on what we might become. In honour of the final 30 days without a pro soccer league here are the top 30 things I hope to see in CanPL over the next 5 years. In 2019 30. A wonder goal makes the sports packages. I don’t care who or what team, but in a year where building recognition is the most important thing I hope to see a goal or play crossover into the mainstream. 29. Someone dislikes someone Sports aren’t fun without conflict. The league will arrive the day there’s some true anger and rivalry 28. I’m (or other neutral reporter) is accused of bias I don’t have a horse in the race, but I look forward to being accused of it. That will mean fans are being irrational and fans should be irrational. 27. Barrett’s Privateers is sung in Halifax I mean, come on. 26. The Fury get humbled Sorry, Ottawa fans but the Fury represent every negative person out there who tells us its silly to care about this league. It would be great to put a few goals past them in the V-Cup. 25. Fury and CanPL make up …and then see the two groups make up for the good of the sport 24. A mostly CanPL u23 team excels at Olympic Qualifying Now, wouldn’t that be nice… In 2020 23. The Fury join the fold And all is forgiven 22. Quebec gets in The league needs to be in French Canada and, especially, Quebec. Adding Ottawa and Montreal would be huge 21. A coaching change happens I don’t wish to cheer for someone to lose their job, but the first coaching change that happens will be a sign of a healthy league – winning should matter. 20. Lower Mainland in Three expansion teams might seem like a lot, but they brought seven in this year. Having a presence in all three major metros is important 19. A young player leaves for MLS Establishing the league as a natural part of the player pathway is vital. It would be a huge success if a young player is poached by MLS in just the second year. 18. A V-Cup upset One of TFC, VWFC or IMFC gets embarrassed in one leg of a series. It’s a bit early to hope for more, but that would be a great day for the league. In 2021 17. CanWPL announced Planning to start a women’s league begins in earnest 16. Full D3 coverage The League1 Ontario concept is extended to all 10 provinces, with a national D3 championship determined 15. A rival for Winnipeg One of Regina or Saskatoon joins to bring the league to 11 14. A rival for Halifax One of Moncton or Quebec joins to bring the league to 12 13. Al-Classico featured in some cheesy ultras profile It shouldn’t matter, but we’re lying if we don’t admit that we want the rest of the world to notice 12. WE QUALIFY TO QATAR!!!!! Not fully CanPL related, but let’s allow ourselves to dream a little In 2022 11. Kitchener-Waterloo joins As one part of a SW Ontario expansion that hits the biggest population area still without a team 10. With London And the 519 derby is born (just don’t call it that) 9. The women get a cup Using the D3 teams along with a few CanPL senior women’s teams that are up and running the first women’s Voyageurs Cup is held 8. A player is sold to a Big 5 league team This is what it is all about 7. Qatar We score a goal and compete with honor. There are players on the roster that played in CanPL 6. CCL Fever A Can PL wins the qualifying tournament and gets a shot at the region’s big boys In 2023 5. Coast-to-coast Welcome St. John’s! 4. The first 16 round out The 16th team joins – lets say Mississauga or Scarborough to round-out the GTA 3. First evidence the league is part of our culture “16-year-old Dave Smith said ‘I always dreamed of playing for Forge. My dad used to take me to the games.” 2. The Canadian Women’s Premier League kicks-off To a stable and successful future… 1 – The plan to launch CanPL2 and Pro/Rel is announced And we smugly hold it over US soccer Twitter’s heads. CPL U-20

League 1 Ontario has their clubs starting a U-21 reserve league, so I assume that's where a lot of U-20 up-and-comers will play. https://www.league1ontario.com/news_article/show/1008974 Ontario seems to have the most concrete pathway to the pros atm.

I saw that Cavalry U-20 is going to have a team in the Alberta Major Soccer League this season. FC Edmonton will enter a U-20 team as well. This will bring the AMSL up to 10 teams. It will be interesting to see who plays on that team and how they do in the league. I assume neither would participate at Nationals if they win.

    Valour FC - Launch / 2019 Pre-Season

Opening game 10,000 sell out starting to look very possible. Other than the Bomber Gouge sections (and the group sales section, where no sales info is available) there look to be only about a couple of hundred seats left. Overall, probably north of 9,000 now (assuming some group sales!).

    York 9 2019 launch/offseason thread

Isn't that why there are supporter sections now for this malarky? It can't be argued it creates atmosphere, it can be argued whether it's the best way to do it and the most beneficial. I remember going to my first roughriders game after moving over being fearful of not knowing some of the rules and how the game worked and being shown up for the amateur I was. Took 5 minutes to realise at least 50% of the crowd a) had no clue about the rule or what was going on in the game b) were there just to party and get drunk. It's why the crowd herding "cheer now" signs work so well to create atmosphere. As artificial as it comes and coming from the UK I hate that. It is effective. I understand the two lines of thought; a) when you pay your hard earned money out to watch it's your right to enjoy the experience however you want. b) You are there to support the team leave the antics until before or after, during half time or breaks, show the team you understand the play. I think there is a time and place and things like flags, drums/instruments (shudders - not really sold). Supporter areas do add to the atmosphere and can spur on the team but also add to the spectacle for cameras, new fans or people coming into the sport. As long as that is not impacting other peoples enjoyment I get it. If you don't like it you its like this forum, you don't have to read my stupid ass essays or react to them just ignore it or sit in a different section. I'm similar to SthMelbRed in enjoying watching and trying to analyze the game and joining in with chants etc. as the come. I wouldn't want to be waving flags around in the game and it would peeve me if it was happening around me and impeded my view. Again though keep it to certain sections or during certain periods of the match day, or simply sit in a section that doesn't happen when you book tickets. Both can create completely different atmospheres too. A whole stadium intently watching, seeing the play rise and drop in intensity, reacting to play and passes is a cool and unique unity of people. The Riders experience creates a fun party atmosphere but can take away from the game if overdone. Likewise they can affect the players differently. I'd think there is more pressure on the players shoulders and certainly more celebration when the fans are invested but that can also be too much for players sometimes. The party atmosphere might take a bit of weight of the players shoulders but also allow them to concentrate more?

http://www.totalsoccerproject.com/2019/04/oliver-minatel-cavalry-fc-canadian-premier-league/ ... How did you end up signing for Cavalry FC? “I started talking to Tommy (Wheeldon Jr., Cavalry FC head coach) and Martin (Nash, Cavalry FC assistant coach) in late last year,” said Minatel. “I was finishing up my season in Australia, at the time. So, we spoke a lot. The project was very interesting. I was excited. And I really wanted to come over. By the end of the year we had everything sorted. And I’m happy to be here working.” ... Martin Nash was the Fury's assistant coach when Oliver Minatel was there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Minatel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Nash_(soccer)

    Ottawa CPL Club

So couple comments on the more recent posts. As far as which side, there was still snow on the other side, and while I feel soccer should start up in May and end in October in Canada, you play the hand you are dealt. At least they have a stadium that can accommodate both sides, and has turf immune to the weather. Second, lets be honest here guys. Between Investors group field and Tim Hortons Field, it's wishful thinking that there aren't going to be games where the stands don't look good. Heck, there are "sellouts" of Ti-Cat games and TFC games where the stands don't good with attendances apparently in the 20,000+ range.

https://canpl.ca/article/wanderers-approaching-sell-outs-as-halifaxs-reputation-entices-fans "Martin revealed the club is “going to get pretty close to sell outs” across the season, with less than 500 single tickets remaining for the club’s first home match against Forge FC on May 4. There are also fewer than 500 season tickets up for grabs, too, and less than 1,000 single-match tickets remaining for matches throughout the rest of the season. It means the Wanderers – who are currently in the Dominican Republic for pre-season training – head into their first season knowing that a strong base of some 5,000 fans will be in attendance week-in, week-out."

3 tickets purchased. I had a hard time finding people willing to go to Hamilton for the game. I'm not a good salesman. And for the record, I called Forge today to see if there was a way I could buy from them, or to find out how soon I could know if I had won tickets because I didn't really want to wait around and miss my chance at buying from here only to not win free tickets as well. Anyways, he said to me it's starting to get close to capacity. That might have just been to try to get me to sign up for tickets, but he was sounding pretty uncertain about me getting tickets. So if there was any truth to that, its good news for how full the stadium could be!
