Montreal gifted Vancouver a starting goalie, I don’t think you can fault him on any VW goals against, he’s faced like 4 PK’s already.

    2019 Attendance

I hope they make the numbers available too, no matter how good or bad they are, but just a word of caution. The smart money is probably on a dip in attendance in year 2. After MLS's first year the average attendance dropped in each of the next 4 seasons. There will probably be some amount of a novelty crowd in year 1, and the novelty will disappear. MLS didn't match/surpass its 1st season attendance average until its 16th season. Hopefully it doesn't take CPL that long, but I just wanted to make sure we have realistic expectations and not think that it's a given that attendance numbers will only get higher and higher.

I think he has been immense so far. Great shot stopper, physical presence and vocal. Has been a bit rough positioning wise and with distribution a couple of times but really hard to fault him. Given his age if he keeps his place he is about getting better.

I regularly attend Fury games, and even I didn't bother to show. Yesterday was beautiful, and I took the family to the park and an art gallery instead. Honestly, it was the first weekend in 6 months that Ottawa hasn't been a grey overcast frozen wasteland. We weren't spending it in a stadium sitting in one spot.

It is interesting. The skill level I see among the young elite players - even in a small province like PEI - is off the charts compared to what I saw 10-15 years ago. Kids are coming up through the ranks with ridiculous skills, and a desire to play attacking footy where they drive at (and past) defenders. I may be naive and just not as aware of the phenoms who went through the system in years past, but I think our growing infrastructure, huge registration numbers and tendency to stream top players into more elite training and developmental pathways is going to pay off in the next decade or so (and from then on). I know other countries have also continued to grow their programs but I can't help but think that we may have closed the gap quite a bit. And with CPL coming online and offering hopefully another strong domestic pathway for talented young players, I think we will only continue to get better.

    2019 CONCACAF U17 Championship

What I find strange about these kind of results and I’ve seen this in the past too, so an under 17 TFC Academy beats an U17 team like a Penerol. However, then a good portion of these same players go play on the U17 Canadian national team and have trouble beating Caribbean minnow Island teams or even an El Salvador or a Guatemala and crash out of the U17 World Cup Qualifying. You would think a Peñarol U17 team from Uruguay a country that produces players like Canada produces hockey players is much much better than most of these CONCACAF countries that Canada faces in these youth World Cup qualifying tournaments.

Plays the whole game in a solid 2-0 over Odense BK. That James finds himself in a battle for the Championship in Denmark and is in the final of the national Cup. Even if he doesn't play all the games he's our top-defender ATM.

If folks are looking for something to do the night before, feel free to swing by my bar! https://www.facebook.com/events/800361787010706/ We're at 431 Barton Street East, and have 14 taps of (mostly) Ontario craft beer. If you're wearing CPL gear, you can get $5 pints of Helles Lager from Wellington. Not a craft beer fan? We have some classic cocktails & our Macrobrew of the Month as well! (It seems like the Barton Street Battalion may be doing an event this night as well; I've cleared it with them & Jamie before posting this)

    Richmond "Richie" Laryea

I suspect Laryea didn't play against Seattle because being on the road against a team with arguably the best left back in the league (and one of the quickest), it may have been a tall order to expect a guy who has only played one pro game at right back in his life to be able to shut down the attack from that wing (ie. not the best game to start blooding in a player at a new position). Hence Vanney went with the 3-5-2, although he abandoned that at at half time when he saw that his nephew's timing was off the whole of the first half. If Auro is still not back next week when TFC are at home we might see Laryea start again. While people are trashing Ciman in this thread (and understandably so in some cases), Mavinga and Moor have also had mistakes leading to multiple goals against so far this year. Moor at least hasn't had a problem reading the play or diving in to make challenges he can't win. Mavinga was one of two players out to lunch on (what turned out to be) the winning goal by Seattle yesterday (the other was Bradley who didn't track Roldan's run, but Mavinga didn't move to cover the space either - you'd like to think Moor would have read the play). It's a concern overall for TFC, who despite having played 2 fewer games than most other teams in the East have scored the most goals, but continue to leak in too many to have any championship aspirations. Laryea can hopefully help out in this regard if he can learn quickly, but I think right back right now and left back are not the concerns - it's in the middle (and in goal if Bono doesn't stop making bonehead gaffes per game - he might have saved the 3rd goal mind you as he is a good shot stopper).

    Gold Cup 2019

Morgan did not look very sharp against Seattle. At this point, he is definitely on the outside looking in, unfortunately for him. We saw last year in the CCL that he can play at a very good level, but ultimately I think it's down to him and Adekugbe, as we won't carry more than one natural left back, since Kaye and Davies both can (and have) play the position due to their versatility. My money is on Adekugbe at the moment. He'll be match sharp with all the minutes he's playing.

Props to OZ for the scouting recognition and springboard his career after GC 2017. Props to Bradley and his team at LAFC, signing him, playing him and developing him at LAFC. He is only getting better and better at LAFC. Biggest props to MAK himself with his work ethic, commitment, dedication and humbleness. Huge ankle surgery last year also and is playing even more confident this season.

That is his second goal of the season both headers off corners. Canada hasn't been very good on scoring from set plays for a long time so it could be valuable having someone like him in the box on corners and free kicks.

    CPL new teams speculation

Yes easily. There could have been 10 teams to start this year but Ottawa went mental and a couple of other bids didn't come together in time. I could see Montreal and/or Quebec and one other team (Saskatoon?) enter for 2020. Ottawa and one other team (Surrey?) could be aboard in 2021. Easily anywhere from 3-5 teams in two years.

    Ottawa CPL Club

So I'm about as pro-CPL / anti-Fury as they come right now (heck, I turned down free tickets to the game), but I will say that I believe the ~6500 number, mostly because that's about the same as every other year. 2018 was ~6100, 2017 was ~6500, 2016 was ~7000, and 2015 was ~5000 (2014 obviously was an exception, as it was their first pro season and the first half was at Carleton). Home openers are rarely representative of how a team's attendance will be. They could maintain the ~6500 average for the year, drop back to their ~4600 average of last year, or maybe even rise. We'll see how many people show up to see their opponents on the weekend from... Loudoun? Where the heck is Loudoun? It's a good thing the Fury stayed in USL so we could see them play such legendary teams as Loudoun... ?

Like Law 12, the one that outlaws simulation and other unsportsmanlike conduct? Canadian culture, IMO, is built on a foundation of fair play. Faking injuries and diving are antithetical to that general consensus even if a significant minority admires those who cheat in this way.

CPL players with senior Canada caps

I think the CPL’s impact will be in 2026. By then I expect virtually all of our player pool will have played for an MLS or CPL team at some point. Its all about expanding the base so there is a bigger funnel of talent to go and not waste away in that 18-23 age range long term.

Expecting this league to be purely for Canadian eligible people is really funny. This league was always going to be for Canadians, as in people with citizenship or residency or what have you. And all those Canadians who end up playing for other countries do so simply because they aren't good enough for Canada. So you're saying a Canadian who never gets a look from our country and if given a chance to play for another programs (very usually a weaker program) should then be told sorry you're an international now and screw you for trying to play international soccer, then that's a pretty narrow-minded view. MLS has a large number of US born players who are currently playing their trade for other countries and there is no issue there.

    2019 CONCACAF U17 Championship

At the very least....plenty of good players coming out of Sigma, is there some sort of ontario internal grudge going on there?? And David was not at a MLS academy either. Come on Herdman!! Back up the happy feely talk with some action. The excel program is your baby, you hired Oliveri. This excel program visiting just the MLS academies is Baloney. Shake the bushes a little, we've seen some decent players totally skipped by CDN youth teams and MLS academies. Buzz word, cliche, buzz word, synergy, culture, tactical periodization..... if not you then who?? I am serous, you are in charge, lets see something different eh?? I know you have time, you do TV interviews and speechs, and its not like we are playing any games.
