David scores. 2-1, 58’10 points -
I streamed the game today and David was not playing forward. He was more of an attacking mid, playing behind the forwards although he was in the box at times when Gent had free kicks and corners. When the other team was attacking, David tracked as far back as his own penalty area. His decision making is really impressive. In the midfield, he sees options as he gets ready to receive a ball and just makes the play. Pretty telling that in a close 2-1 game (3rd goal was in extra time), David wasn't subbed defensively.8 points

At what point do we consider playing with 2 strikers with the National team. Cav and David would be leathal. I would suggest playing a 442 against a higher quality team with hoilett and Davies on the wings. Cav and David up front, as we know both still can defend.6 points -

You have hit on the key problem with loans Chris: the club who "develops" the player does not receive appropriate remuneration. Part of the CPL business model is to develop players and sell them. If a player wants to play in CPL to improve, why not make it a free transfer instead of a loan? Players will soon realize what they need to do in order to play in CPL. If they want to sit on an MLS bench, go for it. Allowing the top teams to loan players like this allows them to hog all the talent and not pay for the player improvement. Not good for CPL. I guess we will just have to agree to disa6 points

10 goals and 4 assists in only 1,400 minutes this year. Not bad for a 19 year old in his first pro season. Canada’s best lineup is shaping up to be a 3-5-2 formation so we can maximize our midfield, wing and attacking options. Our talent pool is starting to be composed to run through teams4 points -

I was impressed today by Miller. Some have mentioned that we need a good defender to appear out of the blue to match some of our newfound offensive talent. My prediction is that happened today. If a guy can play his first professional game against what is one the stronger teams in MLS both overall and offensively and perform like he did today I think he is going to have a solid future especially as he learns from playing at this level. He was again quite good in the second half. He did get beat once clearly by a small speedy player and partially a second time though he managed to steer the pla4 points

Cabrera in my opinion is neither an MLS nor a national team quality player. He has the talent to become one but we keep waiting to see that actually happen. Most Impact fans were surprised he was not let go during the offseason. It was also a surprise he started last night and he was the weak point in the backline. If he can realize his talent this year he might be someone to go after if he is interested in the national team but right now I do not think he is better than what we have.3 points -

The Impact have been sitting on Maxime Crépeau because he wasn't what they were looking for. They loaned him to Ottawa where he had an absolutely astounding year (watching him tear apart his teammates for their awful defending was the highlight of the season). He is now starting for Vancouver in MLS, which is leaps and bounds ahead of CanPL or USL. Ottawa fans are rightly proud of him, as are many Montréal fans. We still consider him "ours" - especially in the Franco-Ontarian community. He was a boon to the team, and the city. Why deny Canadian talent the ability to advance, simply becau3 points -
Honestly, I'd just like to see the best person for the job, whatever nationality and whatever skin colour: black, white, yellow, red, blue, or Martian green: all good so long as they enhance my match watching experience. Historically, we have also had issues connecting the mids and the forwards. Our strikers tend to get isolated, and balls get pounded at them from the mid or the wings. Things have improved a bit in the last little while, but an effective CAM could be just what we need.2 points -

I have heard KK doing Canada Games and u17 Canada WC matches. And she is no tv analyst. You can tell she doesn't do a lot of prep. Repeats same lines over, not crisp in her delivery, hasn't given much thought about tactics, and hasn't done much homework on the opposition. And like many former players who still have friends on the teams, she skirts levelling any real critiques. Clare Rustad is the much superior analyst but given she is in the medical field, she only does a match once in a while.2 points -

I thought he was selling a time share in Nuevo Vallarta. In fact, I'm going there in a few weeks' time and I am anticipating getting this same spiel at the resort where I am staying. If not you, then who . . . are we going to be getting some more matches against (besides French Guinea)? How about a friendly or two against some higher echelon opponents? I want to "change the conversation" (a favourite TED talk phrase). Talk is cheap. Do well at the Gold Cup and I'll consider joining "The Herd." Until then, colour me skeptical.2 points

My parents are Brits and I totally agree. It really hit home during the World Cup final when TSN managed to cram 7 on the same desk for the halftime show. As expected there was zero difference of opinion on analysis of match incidents. I take the point about judging people on their merits but I don't feel all of these guys are. Henry has always been a beast, even as a 19/20 year old he could really be dominant in the back. At that time I fully expected him to overcome his propensity for brain cramps as he matured. Sadly that hasn’t happened. He’ll be 26 in a few weeks and he still seems as error prone as he was in his youth. On the other hand his playing time was limited for a number of seasons due to injuries and he’s never played for an extended period under a competent manager. Maybe Dos Santos can guide him to finally reach his potential.2 points -
yeah....I had the complete opposite reaction. That MLS starts it's season to early and CPL got it right. Though the MLS has a greater variation in climates to deal with than CPL will... At most I'd go is a couple of weeks earlier (mid-april). Otherwise you are risking bad weather. The type of stadiums obviously impact this as well. With some of these very open pop-up stadiums fans are much more exposed to the elements.2 points

I was a bit disappointed in Cornelius' performance but at the same time I can't recall him ever playing left back before in Serbia or elsewhere. I don't know who was penciled in to be the Caps starting LB with the departure of DeJong but it is a bit strange that Cornelius makes his MLS/Caps debut in a position he has never played before. Reminded me a bit of the Petrasso/Edwards experiment in Montreal last season in which two guys who have some skill as players were being tried out in a position they did not really understand nor know how to play. Well yeah, some people train better than others, but I am not saying he trains better than Davies, or that his ceiling is higher than our beloved Alphonso. I am saying that I was impressed the moment I saw him and right now I am unsure Davies is better than him. I think he has just as much a chance to make an impact as Davies, yet Davies gets more hype due to the transfer and his phenomenal season at Vancouver and his god like pace. All rightly deserved, Davies has earned the plaudits! As soon as I saw that kid though, I was surprised he hadn't cracked the first team, or earned a South Ko2 points

Edmonton averaged 3400 their last year in NASL. Think the CPL will average in the 4000-5000 range for 2019, Ottawa in USL averaged 4752 last year, so it will likely be close. With the way Ottawa Fury Management has been spewing the rhetoric though I suspect they will want to look good vs CPL so suspect they may up the amount of free tickets given away to drive up the announced numbers.2 points -

There are a few angles of possible conflict. One is the V-Cup scenario. TFC vs MLSE CPL team is clearly a possible issue, even if CSA is the party implicated. Another possible conflict is around player movement. If the common ownership of the two teams enabled preferential treatment of a CPL MLSE team by TFC, they could have an unfair advantage in terms of access to fringe MLS players. The loan possibilities would clearly provide the potential for huge subsidies of the wage bill and that give them an unfair advantage. The same issue would occur if the Fury were to enter the leagu2 points -

Lol. So we are supposed to help you recruit Canadian dual nationals so that other countries can get stronger, which will eventually force us to compete harder and be better? Sure. Interesting long term plan. In the meantime, you are looking for potential dual nationals in CPL, a developmental league where many, many players will not have reached their full potential (ie. Anyone good enough to play international footy for another country may be a late bloomer that could potentially help our program). it isn't our job to develop our regional competition - it is theirs.
