No. It's because he's not playing well enough. I think it's good that players have to prove themselves to be selected. I know that there are some exceptions in this camp, but it's holding true for most of them.

The downside? If you're in the camp of "the CPL will be higher quality than the USL", than this stacked "Canada B" team that's currently below .500 in the USL and likely to miss the playoffs isn't going to help your cause.

Feel for the young man. I really hope he goes back to a midfield role. He just does not seem to fit in at RB.

The issue isn't with the site per se, it's with the linking. If you simply go to the site, you won't have issues (and why we don't find any our end). It's a complex issue, we've looked at it. Because the issue actually happens BEFORE people get to the site. It's the link being intercepted and people being re-directed. It happens to a minority of people. It's a problem, but a real head-scratcher. I may actually stop sending links and simply post updates that will instruct people to go to the site manually. I'll put it frankly, The11.ca loses a lot of money. It was a labour of love that I subsidized with the broadcast money I would make from doing NASL games. Obviously, those don't happen anymore. Launched Plastic Pitch, that broke even in year one and two, but then it became too expensive to run (I was out of pocket nearly 10K on it in year three, so some hard decisions had to be made). I understand that the app world collapsed (as one industry insider once put it at a conference I was at, "apps are the eight-track tapes of our generation") so I'd eat that. I guess, I just want you all to understand that "fixing" an issue can be very, very expensive. Like, four or five digits. I leave the lights on simply because I'm hopeful that the CanPL will launch and that will create some new revenue lines so that the site can break even. But when I take on writing projects that pay the bills (writing about things that aren't soccer) to ones that are a massive financial wasteland (writing about soccer), I'd just like readers to understand that the site is more a labour of love than anything else at this point. "Fixing" issues is expensive.

Actually having watched both Petrasso and Edwards at the Impact I think Petrasso should have been called not Edwards. To be honest both were not as good as we were expecting especially defending but Petrasso seemed to improve more over the course of the season. On the wing they are similar, both are fast although Edwards is faster but Edwards relies too much on his athleticism while Petrasso is more intelligent. Both need to improve a lot to be more than depth players on the national team but since Petrasso can play right back better than Edwards we need him until we get someone better or he improves. AJH was not called because he hasn't played much and is coming off injury but I do not understand why Akindele was called since he is having a mediocre season and we have enough better options at striker and wing. We are really thin at fullback with this selection which is the one thing that I do not like about the selection.

I really doubt the Ottawa group will play hardball and threaten to fold. But they could theoretically take it that far. I have no idea of the relationships there. My feeling is that Ottawa prefers to join, CPL wants them, and so does the CSA. But Ottawa wants to ensure if they go into this new venture, they will be the most advantageous position possible. If they get to keep their players, they will be several steps ahead of other clubs. If I'm the Fury I want that. I'd be very surprised if they don't all come to some kind of agreement.

I wonder if some of our financial problems are due to paying both Zambrano and Herdman. Also I am not expert on what the CSA's finances are but I find it strange small CONCACAF nations can afford to play Nations League and play friendlies and we can not. If this was a one time pause from playing regularly due to a temporary financial or organizational problem then fine but if we are not playing regularly in the future that is really unacceptable for a serious program.

Ballou is starting for Barça B this eve home vs Egea. Edit: played 90, Barça B lost 0-1 to a physically tough rival they were really better than. Tabla played left side, had some spectacular dribbles both halves, and a shot in close that went wide. He was moved to the right side and was similar. He has a better right foot than I thought, he used both fairly well. He does not seem fast but on a quick dribble is able to get past a defender quite easily, then get his body in position to defend his space. Really deserved a goal and maybe an assist. But the rival really beat up on the creative mids, got their goal, and held on. Egea is probably the team with the lowest budget in their division.

I used to think that as well. Here's the problem with it. Cincinnatti announced they were leaving for MLS. What's the problem with the Fury doing the same with CanPL, if it's also a D1 league? The eighth team doesn't have to be in Ottawa. How about a league owned Montreal franchise given they are having tryouts there, Claude Robilliard is around the right size with grass (think anyway?) and they badly need a team in Quebec to tap into the francophone media market?

AJH is in the Olivier Occéan zone circa 2007-08. Yes, he was a good player, but we have Ali Gerba and Rob Friend in front and Iain Hume could play on the wing instead.

The Brazillian federation website has both Canadian fixtures with start times listed ( I presume in Brazilian time ) on their ticker tape at the top of the webpage. I think Brazil's time is currently one hour ahead of ET. https://www.cbf.com.br/selecao-brasileira/noticias/selecao-feminina/cbf-tv-transmite-ao-vivo-brasil-x-canada

He's on board bro, been 100% since the gold cup.....his CMNT performances was one of the many reasons that led to his original transfer to LIGA Mx... followed by a 4 yr contract to pay the bills for his family. He's a smart guy, he knows this and appreciates this. He's coming to the camp and I wish him safe travels and best of luck banging in his first goals for the CMNT. It appears since OZ and now with Herdman a new Identity is finally being formed (about time). If I remember correctly one of his Complaints was he felt the squad and/or certain players lacked that passion, desire, determination. I have no reason to believe the CONCACAF bulldog/pitbull is not committed (hope he doesn't take my nickname personal). Cheers, and 100% agree with you, we need him on the squad.

Henry and James have to be looked at as the primary central defenders when healthy for this cycle. I suspect that Jakovic is going to line up between them for 3 at the back. Honestly this is the best lineup we’ve had in a decade. Borjan Henry Jakovic James Arfield. Piette Hoilett Osorio Davies Cavalini Larin That’s so solid.
  30. 1 point
I like this lineup but I really think it should just be expected that our manager would call more or less our strongest team (the odd quibble aside). Time to put some of those strange Floro personnel decisions behind us. Herdman has me hopeful, and I am excited to see Cav and Hoilett solidly committed. But having a group like this also means more pressure to deliver on his rhetoric, and I'm not going to give him credit until he does. For Herdman the work is all ahead of him. I really think in his mind the camp is much more important than the game. This is the beginning of the 2022 journey, in his eyes, and the first opportunity to get the heart of his team together. Having this group together will be about developing a vision and a style and a culture much more than how much we can run up the score against USVI. Herdman called a team that is too strong for the opponent because every single time he can get these guys into a camp together matters. I do think the lack of defenders is strange (though obviously people are forgetting that Davies is destined to be a wingback ?). I would think sorting out the defensive pecking order should be one of Herdman's priorities early on. I'm assuming Godinho would be here if he was healthy and playing. Neither Petrasso nor Cordova have earned a callup so far this year in my opinion but someone has to play RB. Probably unfair to single out Akindele, I think any 2 of Tesho, Chapman and Ricketts could have been left off in favour of Adekugbe and 1 natural right back.
  31. 1 point
I think the lack of FB’s indicate Herdman may play a 3-5-2 or similar. USVI isn’t a good team compared to ours and we can probably get away with it given our attacking options. They’re going to be on their heels a lot with Hoilett, Davies and Osorio linking up to 2 strikers with Piette and Arfield snuffing out anything played in the middle or covering for one of the 2 CB’s who have to pinch out wide to help out. This is a lineup built to run up the score a bit.

All three of those are neutral site games. Are we now suggesting that Canada is such a draw that we're now going to turn a profit at a neutral site game? Seriously? Or are we supposed to galavant across the United States to play these other games cause none of those three teams are going to go to ******* Bradenton to play a friendly? That way we can spend more time in the air than actually getting the team together but at least we will have played 2 games in the span of a week. Also, all three of those countries have little to no women's program. I'm sure if we went that way, we'd have more money to spend on the men. Instead we're hosting Brazil in the nation's capital.
  39. 1 point
200K for Bradenton is pretty good for a week for 25 people. Doesn't really matter whether you grew up there or not, this stuff is all budgeted. The player's per diems do not change where they are and I can bet they are pretty high. Decent accommodations will be pretty expensive too because the Canadian dollar is doing so poorly against the American dollar. I'm assuming they fly into Tampa and then have to charter a bus to Bradenton. There's another expense in American dollars. What I don't understand is the assumption on here that the leadership is so inept that President after President of the CSA have all failed to recognize how seemingly easy it is to make money with games. If games in Canada were such a surefire money maker as some assume, I'm sure it would've been tried. What you are suggesting is a BIG gamble to try to turn a profit with these games that could either prove to be a moderate success or put them in dire straits money wise. Personally, I don't want them to make that bet because if it goes south, you then have to recover costs elsewhere which means going back to the time when we flew Ante Jazic 12 hours from Russia in economy a day or two before the game. Soon enough that will dis-incentivize the players to accept the call up and then you are in even worse shape than before. I would really like to know the costs of hosting a game. There has to be so many expenses.

They did announce the plans with some lovely renderings. Stadium renovations are proceeding. There is nothing more to say. Changes to parking are included in the renovations mentioned above. "Engage locals" is up to the club. The municipality is not the PR department for the team. Advertising at the stadium and anywhere else is also the responsibility of the team. You seem to be confusing the role of landlord and tenant in this transaction. Langford is the landlord, PFC is the tenant.
  42. 1 point
$200k for Bradenton? As someone who has grown up around that area that’s pushing it big time. The impact chartered their own plane to Mexico with their own private chefs + security and it was around 200k. I’d agree that a match in st Kitts is probably close to 200k total. The CSA is a lot like the Blackhawks organization prior to Kane/Toews.. no games on tv and bogus excuses. Then the owner croaked and we had exposure and these guys playing.. the team exploded x10! With Canada we have similar young stars but we’re not playing games. We have to be willing to spend money and try to make this work don’t just give up.. let’s bring in a decent team and sell the game! Then we profit and offset losses it’s not that hard of a concept. Is our structure hurting us? Do our directors need incentives to do such things rather than collect a yearly salary? I know I sound like a broken record but when you have young stars and a good team such as we do it’s just lazy to say “we don’t have the money and there’s nothing we can do”

They already announced end stands, one up close to the goal, the other further back. Sot hat is not new. And those renders: really poorly done, though if the architecture is like that, with neutral grey, clean stands with white roofs, the logo large like that, then they'll have really taken a step up. As is, the stadium is very ugly, it is terribly cheap looking, with bad colour schemes in blocks along the main stand, a logo on the stadium that is kitschy, the area around it very poorly taken care of. Encroaching buildings that look like wholesale radiator distributors. Even the Rugby Canada building is depressing. And that is also a testimony to this mayor, Mr. Young. In general, in public architecture in Langford, buildings are very poorly designed and you have to ask the guy: why don't you hire a quality architect, or just recognize you have no vision for such things and let someone who does? Will Pacific FC have the vision to tell that guy what is really needed to pick things up a bit and make the fan experience minimally decent? This basically looks like an illegal bazaar on the Star Wars Kessel Run.
