Luckily, some of us have a subscription (Acadie Nouvelle has better coverage in the Moncton area, if anyone is looking to subscribe to anything): In reference to Hamilton, Winnipeg, et al... ''Younes Bouda, the executive director of Soccer NB, believes those are cities can aspire to rub shoulders with, at least on a soccer level. ''It's a dream but it's not as far away as we might imagine. It's very reasonable and the right scale for our population here'' he said on Wednesday. Numbers aren't firm, but Bouda said CPL wants franchises that can draw between 6,000 and 7,000 fa

Definitely disagree with this. From what I have seen MAK is ahead of Johnson and Wotherspoon. Johnson played the last game for Orlando at RB Wotherspoon has much more experience, but MAK seems to be more athletic, better on the ball, and overall more talented. MAK is my choice ahead of Johnson and Wotherspoon, but I think you could make a case for any of those 3 being ahead of the other. One thing for sure though is that MAK deserves to be in that conversation at bare minimum. And FWIW Tiebert and Chapman aren't far behind, if at all. All of these guys are more

Glad Bradley is still rating him, he just needs to continue to play with this confidence level and it's going to be very hard to take away his minutes. What's the best part about this...... People droping WTF bombs not even a year ago, about not just his playing time but the fact he was even included in the 23 man gold cup roster.

  15. FYI, the author of the Easton Report now works for the league, and has reportedly been working with the league in some capacity for quite a while. I take the Easton Report as a list of challenges compiled in 2012 that the league has spent that last six years addressing more than a prediction of the league's II ability in 2019 Specifically, the lack of appropriate venues and owners willing to collectively withstand 10-20 million in annual losses split across 10 teams were key factors in the report that the league has patiently worked to overcime.

^^ As an Ottawa supporter, I'm happy to have a local professional soccer team to support for the past 5 years. I have my doubts as to whether Canada can support a Div 1 soccer league, as does the Easton Report. However, the soccer landscape has changed significantly in Canada over the past 6 years since the report first saw light of day. I believe now is the time to try and start a new Canada-wide league since there are 3 vibrant MLS clubs in Canada right now that keep shedding Academy prospects who have no place to keep developing except L1O or PLSQ. Div 3 is a stepping stone, but the CPL wou

Guys, I'm going to weigh in here as a very casual ( if that) soccer fan. Professional looking presentation (in game and on tv) and marketing, in addition to game day experience, are going to matter WAY more than the quality on the field. I joined this board because 1) I'm a huge nerd about the business of sports, ie league structures, branding, etc 2) I'm in favour of Canadian sports taking their own spotlight- huge CFL fan here, and 3) I pay close attention to what soccer does, because it provides a bit of a blueprint for my favourite sport, rugby, to follow down the line.

The sad thing is we kept being told in the past that Canadian players were not getting playing time in MLS because they were not performing good and in some cases that was true but now there are players who clearly are good enough and performing well and they still are not getting the playing time they deserve. In other countries foreign players have to prove they are better than domestics but in MLS Canadians have to prove over and over again that they are better than the foreigners and journeymen American players.

People literally could have just googled "periodization" this whole time, the first thing that comes up is a Wikipedia article that explains the whole concept in detail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_periodization But I guess they're just running out of ways to take meaningless shots at Herdman for no apparent reason.

Or like the guys who get picked to be the goat on TFC, the Whitecaps, or the Impact. Also, Horta and Nguyen are more offensive types where he's defensively inclined box to box big engine room athlete. I don't think Bradley's going to disrupt the balance of his midfield in that way.

Hate to be the guy that gets threads off topic but there are some interesting salaries in hear: Liam Fraser(67.5k) is making more than is making more than Louis Beland-Goyette (54.5k) despite LBG having more MLS experience and being in their respective team's 19 more. Reid makes more than both (75k) the previously mentioned Reid (75k) Makes more the Alphonso Davies (72k) Davies also makes less than Laryea (135k) and Akindele(105k) as well as making less than half of what Jakovic (150k) and Petrasso(155k) make. Raheem Edwards (55.5k) makes less than Ben Spencer(67.5k)

https://mlsplayers.org/resources/salary-guide Aketxe is making $1.2 million base salary, which means that I'd like to see him start hitting the target a lot more than he did last night. Also, Ben Spencer appears to be making more money this season than last season. So they cut him after the end of last season, then re-signed him at a higher figure? I don't get it. Akinola as a base salary of $54K (the league minimum) but "Total compensation" figure of $140K which is a higher figure than the likes of Nick Hagglund, Ashtone Morgan and Jordan Hamilton is. Anyone know what the deal

I love it! A player that is making a case to get included in the national team rather than just being the default after a better player retires or is not involved. I know he got some starts in the Gold Cup but he has not generally been included in the conversation when talk of the best 11 are discussed on this site. I am also glad he got a goal after watching the LAFC game this weekend and the commentators were being very dismissive of his play and scoffing at him, commenting he hadn't scored yet. When Vela or Rossi were mentioned they would just give all credit to them even if most of th

Very frustrating game this evening with the only good news being TFC playing 6 Canadians through the course of the night, including 5 on the field at the end of the game. Overall the team, while dominating Seattle, weren't sharp (ironically, the Canuck who I thought had the best game, Chapman, was the only one subbed off). While there will (and already has been) a lot of talk about VAR again after the latest debacle (Seattle's winning goal clearly offside), I'd like to award Referee Ted Unkel with a record breaking performance for most through-balls denied to an attacking team by the Ref

  47. Liam plays anywhere across the front three for lfc. I watched the game. As a #9 they employ him as a firmino understudy. In a false 9. That’s how he is directed to play. High press on the back line. He didn’t get a goal but was in on 3 of them. Whether with pressure or causing a turn over. Chelsea couldn’t play out of the back because if it. He ran just about under 11 km in 85 mins. They track their outputs. Very happy and proud of him put a shift in for the team today. . His goal is to try to get on the preseason tour with the first team. Will know soon.
