  2. This is a fair question. Last summer a few people on this board and I, and other Caps fans, went to see the WC U-16 vs similar Sounders in the North American quarter finals, they won and went to the final four. Many of those kids were top quality, and over half from the Lower Mainland (a few Albertans, if I recall correctly). I can honestly say that many had the level to play in the top two tiers of u-16 Spain, I've seen it and know it. So as we know, it is not a question of talent, ability, mental strength. It is proper development at a key moment in a player's career. That team, h

The war is mainly about a gas pipeline from Qatar to Europe that required regime change in Damascus to be built and could have devastated the Russian economy given they depend on Siberian gas to Europe for much of their state revenues. You would be hard-pushed to find a government or rebel group in that part of the world that doesn't have a very bad human rights record, but considerations like that have never stopped western countries from doing business with Saudi Arabia, because not doing so would have devastated the western economy given it revolves around the petrodollar cycle. If his idea of relaxing during the international break is chillin in Dubai, more power to him. Who are we to judge how he decides to spend his break? I would rather have a refreshed junior pushing the blue birds to promotion, than a fatigued one. If he stayed in England, I doubt you'd have an issue.

I love how the group that criticised a the credibility of a wide array of individuals are now hanging their hat on "a friend of a friend said Martin Nash said something". How much sense does it make for a league that requires well above USL average attendance numbers to be sustainable be far below that league's salary figures? And even if the statement were true, the statement has quickly morphed from "Nash wished the salary cap was $250,000 higher" to "CPL will be USL D3 level", without taking a moment to appreciate that thanks to Nipun Chopra's article yesterday confirmed that some USL

His confidence on the ball in keeping possession with jukes and turns has really impressed me during this great run. He had one or two passes last night which I think he'd like to have back, but he has been excellent so far this season. As mentioned earlier, he's hitting his prime now so I hope it keeps going and translates into bigger and better things.

Alderson is from Kitchener. Carducci is from Calgary. Clarke and Fisk are from Vancouver. Levis is from Saskatoon. Melvin and Norman are from BC. Those are the ones I remember, but let's be honest, most of the players who we think as top tier players/prospects are not from BC.

They CFL types in Winnipeg seem to be getting along with soccer types. Not all the old stereotypes are still valid. A CFL partnership with a stadium might be the mean big brother scenario but they should be able to get along.

  22. from my story on the April 18, 2018 USL game between Toronto FC II and North Carolina FC... Attendance was about 110 by my estimate. The USL website posts only 50! It was a bitterly cold night just like last night's CCL game but this is really bad. I was thinking the Leafs were playing as they alternate hockey and basketball since their playoffs started but neither team was playing. Last year the message boards screamed that the Ontario Soccer Centre was so far away (just outside the city limits) and the fans would flock to be downtown and they'd get more than their 500 to

An obvious question would be why the headline to the story talks about an "operating profit" rather than a "profit" and if this bit at the very end: ...The Club recorded a payment to Triple B of $3.5 million, the Club’s fourth annual scheduled excess cash payment as required by the Club’s Management Agreement with Triple B. This was in addition to paying the City of Winnipeg $1.3 million, which was related to an earlier Winnipeg Enterprises Corporation debt that was assigned to the Club by the City of Winnipeg in 2005 implies that they were actually left with a surplus of only 300k.

  25. WRT to the OSU fine issue, while I don't know all the details, I will share a few thoughts: Why doesn't OSU just pay the fine? $400 is nothing to them (it is the minimum as stated in the article) - that's about 2 house leaguers or half a summer rep player. Now they are spending more on the appeal (unless there is also a suspension involved). Their argument is that the rules do not properly define a "memorable event" (U12 is allowed two memorable events out of district, but soccer activities should adhere to LTPD guidelines (no scores/standings)). The purpose of the rule (I t

I don't think him saying he doesn't know the whole story amounts to him being a corporate tool. If what Joey Calcio is saying is true then perhaps there is some truth to your "corporate tool" comment, depending on if something has happened or he has learned something to change his mind about OPDL.

. . . then how do groups like OSEG, MLSE and Calgary Sports and Entertainment work? This is an honest question, not trying to be facetious. I admit that I'm not fully informed when it comes to the nuances of ownership groups and who has holdings in what, but the multi-team/sport ownership groups I'm familiar with seem to be doing a decent job of balancing priorities. Each obviously has a primary cash-cow that ends up being the main focus, but rather than different objectives coming into conflict with one another, I've always had the impression that they've generally complemented one anoth

I would like him to stay in Liverpool next year playing in premier league 2 and receiving some first team training here and there. The big premier league clubs have a stock pile of talent they will never use, so i imagine PL2 is of a pretty damn good standard.

  34. So the Caps fan comment I sumbitted was true that the Winnipeg team is a not for profit organization aka Winnipeg Blue Bombers and probably Martin Nash’s salary cap comments are true that the league salary cap will be closer to USL Div. 2 than USL - Div 1. Hmm, I’m sure thats the only way this league can start and survive is by emulating the lower USL leagues with salary caps and finances and that essentially rules out any chance of a current national team player to come back and play here unless they take a huge salary cut. I know many of you will be disappointed but its the less riskier wa

Now has 2 assists, 5 key passes and has played in each of Fresno's last 5 games. He's still raw, but man is the potential there. He consistently beat players today making runs from midfield, is capable of making incredible passes, and best of all rarely turns the ball over. If he keeps going at this pace, we need to cap-tie him in the Nation's League. Assisted a tremendous finish today:

I think a CPL club is not going to have much profit to funnel for a while. More likely it's going to be losses that need to be absorbed. Conflict of interest? I don't get that. More often than not, owners own more than one team across various sports. Most of the time the issue is $. I suspect the Bombers see the potential in this project, and also know that it will help fill stadium dates. And they have the existing infrastructure (season ticket lists, sponsor relationships) and have deep enough pockets to withstand early losses. If there was a true soccer lover in Winnipeg that

Can anyone list the guys from Vancouver, or BC even that the Whitecaps have given first team contracts too? As mentioned above Froese and Bustos were from Winnipeg, Davies is from Edmonton, Teibert St. Catharines, I think Alderson was Calgary or something wasn’t he? Maybe Carducci was Calgary too? I’m not sure where Caleb Clarke is from so maybe he is from Vancouver? I can’t think of anymore MLS era Whitecaps homegrowns at the moment.

I remember a number of games when Osorio didn't start during Zambrano's era, but the only games I remember him being not being in the 18 man roster was when he was either injured or part of the Gold Cup squad, so probably a bit of an exaggeration from Zambrano (even if the sentiment is a nice one to see).

I don't see him being loaned out and hope he doesn't. The style and way Liverpool play, I love the fact we have a Canadian attacking option developing in that program. Even if it is with the reserves or the U23, we can be sure he will see regular minutes, why? because Liverpool will make sure of it. Just have to hope he has no major set-backs(injury) etc. "knock on wood", and stays on his current trajectory. He does seem very modest and have an incredible work ethic along with the full support of Gerrard, these are all great things. Agree with @Unnamed Trialist , after the WC and mayb

  48. It's not clear why the rule exists (U12 teams and under can not make team trips of this magnitude), at least from the article. It's likely a safety or security rule, but it does come off as strange in this case. What's funny is the level of disorganization this shows at these youth levels. The club informed a body governed by the OSA (EODSA), received a late 'notice of disapproval', took the trip anyway and just paid the fine, and now they're going through some sort of appeal. If basic issues like this can't be handled, it's no wonder why we can't organize CanMNT friendlies.
