  2. I think it's all mentality with Junior. Fingers crossed, touch wood (Not what I meant pervert) hug a rabbit foot, he has found some peace and maturity with his ambitions and football on and off the pitch. He was a top 6 premier league player when at Blackburn with huge career potential. He was one of the hottest young talents going. Whether it was poor judgement on his part or bad guidance he went to a more lucrative contract ahead of better footballing moves (imo). To be fair QPR were also a wolf in sheep's clothing at the time throwing money at everything that moved but ultimately signing mercenaries and players on the come down from big club's that didn't care. For the bravado it was never sustainable. He had injury problems and got sucked down and buried there. Warnock and finally sorting his national team allegiance has been the best thing for his career imo. He is a top league player, of that I have no doubt. It's the right club and right manager like with most players that will see him realize that potential. If they make it to the premier league it is a story of redemption for junior and hopefully just the first chapter.

The CPL idea is to plant the seed of professional football in Canada and water it. Nobody has ever suggested that the goal on Day One was to have budgets that rival MLS. But if the league is successful, that day may eventually come. And I'm sure you know this already which makes your comments totally disingenuous.

@Kurt-MTL I disagree. Don't want the convoluted MLS salary system anywhere near the CPL. Most important thing for controlling costs is not to go overboard on player salary minimums in the beginning. That is the floor in a sense. If certain owners want to spend more than the cap let them and just tax and redistribute the revenue from it. "Everybody wins" so to speak. At least in my opinion.

To me it comes down to having as much financial flexibility as possible. Which is why I'd like to see low player min salaries (at least to start) and a soft cap instead of a hard cap. The soft cap could could consist of luxury tax over certain total payroll amount. Any revenue from luxury taxes would be redistributed to teams. A structure like this would give teams flexibility along with some subsidization. I think going in there with min salaries that are too high along with a hard cap is too rigid a structure and could hurt everyone.

  13. Nope. I get pissed off in one situation: when guys very clearly Canadian raised and trained, growing up playing for Canadian clubs, defect. Guys like Hargreaves and, it seems, Tabla. When guys have pretty much equal ties to countries and choose a better one I understand even if it frustrates me. Jonathan DeGuzman for example was largely trained Dutch, the only thing that pissed me off was I felt he strung us along. If Tomori chooses England it will just make sense, he is not really Canadian. When guys have very little chance at making our squad and choose another country I also understand, it is basically the reverse-Arfield. Emery Welshman going to Guyana is barely a blip on my radar because I don't think he gets a shot here. Could we get burned sometime if someone like McKendry ends up being a late bloomer and turns into a Premier League player after he joins NZ? I guess, but chances are pretty slim. But if Tabla goes to Ivory Coast as it sounds like I won't have much use for him.

He usually starts on the left , move to the right and does well only for him to move back at the left and somehow ends up at Left back.

  15. I kinda wish someone from CSA/Herdman could come out and tell us about their plans for friendlies... If there are no games coming it means CMNT are idle until Sept. To me that's just crazy and if I haven't heard news of a game set up please someone set me right... I for one am for CMNT to play the 3-5-2, but I see Herdman sticking with the 4-3-3 for a bit longer. @BuzzAndSting is right we can't be worried about duals who are having difficulties making their choices. It is about those players that want to rep the Rouge... Plus CMNT sneakily do have some youngsters coming up most obvious are Davies & Millar.

    The Importance of Jr. Hoilett

Possibly to a small extent but it seemed as though he was always fit to play. Unfortunately QPR had a parade of managers that did not really rate him and did not use him effectively so his playing time was very limited and the fans were not very happy with him. Typical QPR. Some clubs have a way of getting the best out of people but QPR always seem to do the opposite.

How come in MLS every time somebody goes down in the box, a penalty is rewarded? There's so many bogus penalties in this leagues it makes it hard to watch.

Also we have some young pretty exciting, huge potential talent coming up and some duals that are not capped tied yet that could make a huge difference ! It’s a really good thing to have depth !

Should've kept his man outside on the penalty but overall I was most impressed by Fraser today. Nothing flashy but very composed on the ball and actually more attack-minded than I expected. Similar to Kaye you don't notice him much unless you watch carefully but every time he receives the ball, even in difficult positions, he is able to make positive, effective plays and link up with those around him. Bradley has mentioned how good Fraser is at pinpointing passes and you could see it a few times today. Definitely had the football intelligence to play at MLS game speed, which is always a question when someone moves up a level.

Funny that I thought Tefler played more forward, Gian-Luca thought more mid and vanney uses him as a LB. And he still did well. Easily played as well as Hasler on the other side. Although he faded badly in the last 15 minutes, his tired legs couldnt keep up when they asked him to move forward so Morgan could go to LB. Chapman had some nice penetrating runs, Hamilton played well on LW of 4-3-3. He actually got in some nice crosses which is something you dont usually ask of him. Fraser didnt look out of place, nothing great but fine for his first game. They did look disjointed on not on the same page, which will happen when you put in backups with first time reserve players. Too bad we didnt see one of the regular mids in there to give the newbies a little direction. Aketxe started to take control in the second half, but it was all discombobulated. Hope the first team got all the rest they needed.

I was pretty impressed with Hamilton & Fraser. Telfer did okay in his first game, never mind out of position. Chapman had his moments - both good and bad. Didn't really notice Morgan one way or the other. Dunn looked nervous, but certainly not going to criticize a 17 year old on his debut. Expected more from Ricketts, and maybe even Chapman.

Robinson's style can lead to less than thrilling soccer, but I feel like this year it's taken an even more cynical step. It's been really anti-possesion, hoof it into the box and hope something happens type soccer so far this year, with, as mentioned above, a few highlight reel plays from Alphonso. At this point I'm looking forward to him moving on and see what he can do in a team with a different style.

All i have seen on twiter was that they passed their season ticket total from the previous year. That number was apparently right around 1,000. So if these are true numbers then yes they did.

  38. Awesome goal but unfortunately after a hot start Wassey lost his starting spot in 2nd half of season. In last 7 league matches he stayed on bench for 3 and played less than 30 in 3 others. Maybe Paderborn brought in reinforcements for their promotion run? Anyway great accomplishments for him this year but I think with our current depth a CMNT call will very much depend on what he does next season. If Paderborn keep him and give him even regular sub minutes he might catch Herdman's attention. If he leaves or continues to struggle for minutes probably not. I'll be happy when 3rd and 4th level Germany (and anything below the Scottish Premier League there) are considered absolutely too low for a senior CMNT callup. I'd love to have a few of our guys starting in the Bundesliga 2 though.

  39. If we do play a 3atb formation, We should play like Niko Kovac at Frankfurt, in a 3-4-1-2. A good video to watch to see Kovac's fast counter attacking side in this video: play like that would not only would it be entertaining but it would give us a better chance against big sides.

Part of the equation for league minimum salaries can be using seasonal/6 month contracts for depth players that allow players to work other jobs in the off season. Small knock on professionalism but would allow you to pay reasonable wages in-season without breaking the bank. I think USL does this for the majority of their contracts as a cost savings measure There's probably a few other ways they could get creative. If the York team does include greenpark homes, a condo developer, they could subsidize the high cost of Toronto living by providing housing. Sort of like how the SF Deltas did, but as probably cheaper as a developer

"Emotionally overwrought CPL zealotry"? LOL! Oh the irony! I was responding to one particular post and I quoted the entire thing, and bolded the part I was particularly responding to. My point was that the CPL does not need a massive initial investment in order to grow to the point where it rivals MLS (and would then be a very viable destination for CMNT players). Which seems to have been obvious to most. I have not read the different post that you quoted and hence was not responding to it and cannot say whether I agree with it. To be honest I do not read very many of your posts because you seem to have an axe to grind and I'm not really interested in hearing it. And I have a strong sense that I'm not the only one who has little to no interest in your "emotionally overwrought" anti-CPL "zealotry".

  46. England Arfield is not in the Burnley squad Tomori is on the Hill City bench for game against Sheffield Wednesday. Leutwiler is the Blackburn back up for game against Bristol Rovers. Twardek remained on the bench for game against Morecambe. Hungary Manjrekar James is back in the Vasas starting 11 for the game against Upjest. Vasas lose 4-2 and Manjrekar scores Vasas’s 1st Scotland Championship Aird started for Dunfermline against Brechin, he has a goal and an assist in the first half. Gasparotto is out injured. Trafford not in the ICTFC squad League 1 Zanatta starts for Raith against Queens Park. Zanatta scores the second for Raith in a 2-0 win. Ricky Gomes is on the Arbroath bench for game against East Fife. League 2 Harry Paton started for Stenhousemuir against Annan. Scored twice in a 3-2 win Calum Ferguson is on the Elgin City bench for game against Edinburgh City.

  47. I am not too surprised. Atiba Hutchinson has been great for so long but the day will come when he's past it. Perhaps we are just seeing signs of that now. At his age, he'd do well next season to be the experienced, rotational midfielder in the team. And as often the case with those players, you increasingly want to see them on the bench as insurance. Not because they did something wrong, but because that is their role, to bring leadership and mentorship to the team. Let the players in their prime start the matches. That sort of thing. Every squad can use a guy like that. 36 next year. Were does the time go.

  49. Kaye, Jakovic and Davies play 90, De Jong and Teibert were subbed out in the second half after the Whitecaps went down a goal. Some horrible tactics by Carl Robinson meant that Davies was completely wasted on the night. Kaye and Jakovic had good nights with Kaye making a key interception on the 2nd LAFC goal (helped by Waston's traditional "Fuck the keeper I will head it out myself" play). De Jong was good as well, unlucky subbed out in a poor tactical move while Teibert was ok in the first half but outmuscled on the game winning goal. I understand that Hurtado got -345 opta points for having bad hair.

Man I just don't get Carl Robinson. I mean, you are down 2-0 in the second half. You have only a few players capable of creating something, and arguably the best of them on the team, Alphonso Davies, is stuck at LB. Like I really don't understand this. If he was a left wing back in a 3-5-2 pushed up high, then sure. But no, he was playing full back. Vancouver, you are not going to win the game with your most dangerous players far away from goal. What next, Jordi Reyna at RB? Frusturated for Davies. Good on him for having a good attitude about this. There is a silver lining in that he is learning multiple positions, but there is a time and place, like you know, when they have the lead? NOT when they are chasing the game. Stupid.
