    Juan Guillermo Cordova

Juan Cordova goes 90 in Huachipato’s 2-0 win over Everton this weekend. Huachipato sits third in the Primera Division. Juan, 22 years old, has won praises by the new manager and has earned his place as the club's starting RB.

Spurs fan here, so yeah. Also, Spurs would be a cool option for Davies. Poch has a history of trusting talented kids, and Davies would learn from a really modern manager. A fellow can dream...

Cavallini had a nice goal yesterday. Almost a Ronaldo-type header.

If anyone is curious, the entire Dundee-Hearts match is on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vmQ_IZZI5I). I came away really impressed with Godinho. He's 28 on the right flank (since there's no commentary) in case it wasn't obvious. It's a good chance to see what kind of player he is for people like me who haven't seen a lot of him play over the years. I have no idea who will end up being the better player: Cordova, Godinho or Petrasso (or someone else). Each offers something a little different, but all three have strong technical skills and some pace, which isn't a bad starting point. It's been about 12 years since I had even a little bit of enthusiasm for our prospects at right back (no offence intended to Ledgerwood who was serviceable, but that was all we had). cheers, matthew

I agree. I was unconvinced during Gold Cup that Cavallini had taken the top spot from Larin. But now with the playing time and goals easily in Cavallini's favour, I am now on the Cavallini bandwagon.

That was an outrageously good header. Power. Accuracy. From pretty far out. I really like how he appears to stop and even take a step backwards to quickly sort his feet out early which gets his body in perfect position for the successful header. Colour me impressed.

    2026 WC Bid?

If Morocco wins is there any chance of having a 32 team tournament? 48 teams is so stupid. Acutally, it's 3-team groups I have a problem with. It means a 2 game world cup for 66% of the teams involved. All the blood, sweat and tears of qualifying for 2 games? That's just dumb, I am sorry.

A bit of a conspiracy theory, there could be something to it! I just hope he ends up at a club where his development will progress, with all due respect to the Caps, imagine him surrounded by quality!

A goal would be a start. His play has been really impressive for us and his form has been great in Mexico so I hope he does indeed start for us in the fall. But he hasn't actually scored a goal for Canada yet at the senior level. And Herdman seems the type who is going to put team ahead of individual so I don't think his concern is whether or not he pisses Lucas off. Cavallini with his hold-up play and now his finishing with Puebla is our best fit at striker if he remains fully committed. But either he's all in or he's not. But if he's going to question his decision to play for us after every match we don't need that distraction.

    2026 WC Bid?

I agree, but it's actually a 2 game World Cup for only 33% of the teams involved, because it gets shrunk from 48 to 32 after the group stage. I can just imagine, let's say Morocco gets the World Cup, but we somehow manage to qualify on merit. We get drawn in a group with, say, Spain and one other team. Our first game against Spain we lose and get shut out (as you would expect) now all of a sudden we only have one more game to not go home without a point or without a goal. I think a lot of teams will go home completely empty handed and for many of them it will seem like a somewhat hollow experience. I'm probably being over dramatic, and just qualifying for the World Cup would make me very proud, but less opportunities for that magic moment within the tournament itself could put a damper on things.

I was referring more to the implied end point (which was apparently not an EPL top 6 club) rather than the next club. Sometimes talented young players go straight to a top 6 EPL club and are successful (e.g. Rooney at 17/18 yrs). Incidentally, don't tell any Tottenham fans that they are a small club!! And don't forget which club is successfully holding on to England's best player! (hint: currently in the top 6!).

My 2 cents he should go to Ajax or a big German club to develop properly. He'll end up being sold for £25M or something to a huge EPL club, play U23 for the first half season and then go on a series of loans...we'll see what happens to him.

The obvious answer is "it depends". It depends going forward how each player is playing with their clubs and how they play in camp and in games for the MNT. You'll see multiple players staking claims off/on to the starters spots at multiple positions for our NT as has been the case in the past.

I'm going to stick with my theory of US bullying on that one! Particularly since we get no knockout matches. In fact, the 10 matches would be a lot more palatable if one of them were a semi, or even a quarter. But zero knockout matches? Give me a FB.

I know you are just doing the standard pessimistic football supporter thing but players from lower ranked countries do sometimes actually make it big and often drag their country with them. Such as Didier Drogba and Ivory Coast, or, closer to home, Dwight Yorke and T&T. And more recently Gareth Bale and Wales, which is a particularly striking example because of the similarities between Davies and Bale. So why not Alphonso Davies and Canada?

    Impact 2018

Manchester United scouts say the player at the GA Cup that most impressed them was Yannick Laurent (#42) captain of the Impact U17s.. impressive. You can watch some games via the MLS youtube channel. He most reminds me of Higuain with Columbus - all over the park looking to move the other team around by his movements and touches. Though he played as an 8 in a midfield three, dare I say he could be the future number 10 we’ve been waiting for..? Here’s the youtube link to the semis game against Seattle where the announcers mention Yannick being singled out by Manchester United during a scouting course they gave. https://t.co/NY39j0FulC?amp=1 —-update below—- Adding a followup MLS.com article where he’s mentioned as one of the top 5 of tournament: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/04/04/baer-5-names-you-should-know-after-2018-generation-adidas-cup

It's disappointing to see Krolicki start over Beland-Goyette but can't argue with it based on his performances. He makes some mistakes but the upside Garde sees in him is clear. It would be cool to see him called up to the Japanese national team over the U.S. I would much rather a young Japanese national getting minutes on our team than a young American.

It is too early to know, none of them are sure things yet. Although I think we'll be okay in the near future with these guys as our opponents are really low level. Hopefully by the later rounds of 2022 WCQ these guys will have much more experience in the position and will have improved, they will need it.

I tend to prefer Godinho or Cordova too but sometimes I think it's just that I've seen less of them. Petrasso had his honeymoon period when I was just seeing his English highlights. Now I've seen him at right back at Gold Cup and with Impact with some obvious talent but also some warts exposed, especially on defensive end. Godinho and Cordova are the shiny new right back toys. But they are both young unfinished products who probably have warts too, we just haven't seen them play enough to notice. We really don't know enough yet to make a call, and they are all still developing. Hopefully Herdman keeps an open mind and lets them all compete for the spot. It is definitely nice to be at least 3 deep at both fullback positions (I'm including Morgan there on the left).

Michael Smith has played both sides at the back (either side of the central defensive partnership of Berra and Souttar). He's even played in a 5 man midfield at times although I don't think his most effective position is further up the pitch. The manager, Craig Levein, likes to have it tight at the back and Smith is a very workman like player. A solid player but nothing special. Having said that, I have not heard of him ever being referred to anything other than Northern Irish. A lot of times, when I watch him play, I rarely think of him as being on the CMNT. Although, I could say the same thing about Wotherspoon - until now.

True, but Godinho looked really comfortable at that position when he came on and its been a very long time since that has happened ...probably not since the 2010 WC cycle. It was only a 45 min appearance so don't want to get carried away though. Hope he continues to get first team minutes. Its going to be a challenge.

Hmmm Starting in CPL and having minutes to improve my game with some flexibility to be creative Or Benching in MLS with some starting minutes here and there for not that big of a difference in salary (MLS salary disparity is well documented) I wonder under which set of circumstances I have better odds to prove myself, improve my game and potentially be noticed by Euro leagues... decisions, decisions, decisions... I know if I was Jordan Hamilton, I rather be a starting striker in CPL than benching and seeing Spencer eating my minutes or being sent to USL...where Euro league aren't looking. Just saying

    Herdman new head coach

A guy like Atiba could be a real asset. I hope Herdman is getting him to start thinking being an assistant coach. As for skyping and video conferencing...I guess Floro and Zambrano are old as dirt, so maybe Herdman is the first to do this, but HOLY MOLEY!! That tech has been around for a long time. You would think someone would have introduced this before. I've been video conferencing with multiple gals on the interweb for years.......ooops I have said too much!!!

Compete in what? Oh right, you mean the competition US and Mexican teams aren’t in? Oh okay. Russians are the China of UEFA sorry if that offends people but it’s true. Russia has been horrible in Internstional competitions for a while.. so they beat Netherlands in 08 and rooted in 2016? REAL FOOTBALL, russia is not even in the same tier as the USA or Mexico, for anyone to not realize that is comical.

Vorobiev also made it clear what he thought of the bid from the US, Mexico and Canada. “Objectively, the three candidate countries are weak in football, we all know the American, Mexican and Canadian football,” he said. “[It is] not real football.” LMAO.. a Russian dissing American and Mexican football that's hilarious, I must have missed the last time Russia was relevant in football.

    Calgary Foothills 2018

Glad to see a thread for Calgary Foothills kicking around. No mention of Moses Danto yet, he's scored a couple goals on their England tour and looked great when I saw him in late January. I've heard Russo has hung up the cleats; a shame given he was ranked the best PDL attacking prospect after the 2016 season. The club is high on 16 year old Jacob Angelozzi who was with the Whitecaps for a year but should get PDL minutes this year. As for the move to Okotoks, while I personally hate the location, I think it could be a boon for the PDL club. Okotoks supports their amateur sides very well, the Dawgs as an example drew an average over 4000 in 2017. Calgary being the poor sports town that it is (IMO of course), Foothills has really failed to draw anything more than the Foothills parents and kids and us few supporters.

With this mornings announcement I think it's safe to say that the comparisons to previous leagues are even less relevant than ever before. No Canadian league has ever had the kind of business opportunity that potential CPL owners have be presented with CSB. “(This property) offers three things: Local, national and international,” Lang told Postmedia. “No other property gives you that. You can’t get that in hockey. “I’ve never seen a package like this in my life – one that has all those pieces.” BTW Chris Lang's bio can be found here.

    Potential CPL logo concepts

Not to beat a dead horse and there's no way an owner would go for it, but if a tri-cities team was anywhere near the Galt neighbourhood and could somehow get a hold of some of the old medals from 1904 (donation? local sports hall of fame?) and invent some kind of lineage, then "Galt FC" would be amazing
