This article explains that Hasler will move into the middle to help provide a replacement for Cheyrou: http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/auro-tfc-toronto-fc-sao-paulo-brazil-mls-major-league-soccer-greg-vanney-nicolas-hasler/ I wasn't aware that Hasler was normally a central midfielder. If so, the roster seems more or less complete, barring one more back up CB. Hasler replaces Cheyrou in the middle as over for Bradley & with Chapman plays an increased role to replace Cooper, Fraser provides further cover and the two right-side signings replace Hasler and Beitashou on the right.

    2026 WC Bid?

I think that will happen once we get more stadiums via CPL
  9. 2 points
Sure. But it's been pretty frustrating watching the teams we want to compete with announce decent friendlies in the last week (US-France, Ireland, Paraguay. Costa Rica- Scotland, England, Tunisia. Panama- Switzerland, Norway, Denmark. El Salvador v Honduras) while we have a glorified scrimmage against what will likely be the New Zealand B team. I'm not expecting us to announce Germany or anything, but I don't think top 80 team in hostile environment is too much to ask.

*** Due to Canada Post effectively eliminating Oversized mail shipments for anything other than a sheet of paper.... we can't ship this stuff anymore *** CanPL shirt has been updated to 2019. If you bought a 2018 one, well, that's some instant cool right there. Shipping included 100% Canadian made shirt. 50/50 Jersey knit, very high quality shirt.

    2026 WC Bid?

Here's the most likely way I think Canada gets a Gold Cup: Our joint bid gets accepted for 2026 and the Confederation Cup is still a thing. Since the US is holding the Confed Cup, they don't bid for the Gold Cup in 2025.

    2026 WC Bid?

While this is true, it does make your "T&T vs. Curacao in Vancouver" drawing flies hypothetical somewhat suspect since it is a single-match example. -What if the other half of the double header was US, Canada or Mexico vs whoever? Presumably in a Gold Cup Canada hosts, you'd put Canada in one group, Mexico & US in the other two and get a big draw that way I agree with you about not holding one's breath for Canada to host an entire Gold Cup anytime soon, but if properly marketed and organized it could do well here.

    2026 WC Bid?

I think people are forgetting the real purpose of the so called Gold Cup. It is a fundraiser masquerading as a confederation championship. The only way that anybody other than the US hosts is with the prospect of generating more cash. And the chances of that are pretty close to zero.

    CANADIAN HYPOCRICY

I think this is the key Ted. That is just being a fan. What I have been talking about is very real visceral hatred towards OH that has been expressed on here. There is nothing cartoonish about it. Sounds as though that does not apply to you though, which is great. I would say that it is worth discussing so long as there are people who really hate OH but simultaneously cheer for players born and raised outside Canada who choose to play for us. They are hypocrites and I for one intend to keep pointing it out!

    2026 WC Bid?

I'm sorry but this argument/justification for the status quo went out the window already. Look at the amazing attendance USA provides in the Gold Cup. Watch the first half highlights of this game and talk to me again about big crowds in USA. It's a chance to grow the game in our country, and in the region. Canada can host the Gold Cup. Mexico can host the Gold Cup. A two or three country joint bid in Central America could host the Gold Cup. This would be a good thing for CONCACAF and for every country not named USA.

    2026 WC Bid?

There is no way, shape or form a Gold Cup will ever be better advertised than a Woman's World Cup. FIFA pays for advertising the WWC, CONCACAF relegated that job for both the Gold Cup and the Copa America to the USSF. If the CSA was in charge of advertising for a Gold Cup, I might not hear about it. Also have to take into account that the women's games has always gotten bigger numbers in Canada, and that Gold Cup tickets will be around twice as expensive.

I can't imagine the Gold Cup doing well in Canada. The US has like 50 times the immigrant population of every CONCACAF country to sell the smaller games. How many people attend T&T vs. Curacao in Vancouver? Maybe a few hundred. Copa America would do much better.

    2026 WC Bid?

It is so. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2017/apr/10/world-cup-2026-host-bid-usa-canada-mexico-football Nobody died, the US have simply implemented the bullying tactics they always use and since nobody has the guts to stand up to them we all get trodden underfoot. CSA I'm looking at you. (To be fair, there was no chance of a joint Mexico/Canada bid unless Mexico were up for it, and perhaps they were not; but I seriously doubt that the CSA investigated this option because, well, they are useless.) I imagine the US were prepared to bid alone but throwing a few crumbs to us and Mexico serves the dual purpose of further legitimising THEIR bid in the eyes of FIFA and eliminating any possibility that we and/or Mexico would enter a competing bid. Make no mistake, this is a USA bid. Canada and Mexico are just along for the ride, at the whim of the US.

In Spain: 2B Aparicio did not get off the bench for Izarra, they beat league leaders Sporting Gijon B. Chaim Roserie did not dress for Alcoyano. 3rd Cantave played 90 for Rayo Cantabria, who lost 0-3. Lebre played 90 as Almazán tied away to Bupolsa 2-2. Yuri Ruh stayed on the bench as Villacarillo fell at home to Almeria B, 2-3. I don't see Abdellaoui dressing for Alcorcón B lately. I'm going to bury a brash prediction down here where it won't get noticed. Ballou will debut with the first team of Barça this season. I'm saying this for couple of reasons: Dembelé does not look to be on track, even back from injury, and we sold Deulofeu, so we are missing a tricky left footer to break down the defense on the right side attack. We have Aleix Vidal, but he is not really an attacker. Then, if we stay well ahead in league, there will be time to rest players and try things. If Dembelé can't figure it out, after Ballou gets a half dozen B matches behind him we'll see him called into the first team. There is no one else with his characteristics on the B team either. If I am wrong, well, you never saw this post.

One of the problems with the MLS is there aren’t other clubs within the league for players like Chapman to go to. For example, Tammy Abraham was a top prospect for Chealsea, but he was never gonna win a starting striker spot. Why would a top club use an untested player if they could buy one that has experience? However, Abraham was sent off to Swansea and is starting relatively consistently. Who knows, maybe he will work his way back up to a top club. The open system allows players to face the same level of competition in a starting spot. The salary cap and DP role in the MLS keeps it so that players can’t shift from team to team to find a starting spot like they can elsewhere in the world. As a result, talented players like Chapman will get to the backup role and either stay there, or have to transfer to Europe or USL. They are unable to stay in the same league and fight for a spot on a weaker team.

Ballou is on for Barça B, m. 81, losing 0-1 to Alcorcon. Playing right side midfield. Edit: Ends that way. He did not look out of place, first ball tried to split two defenders with a bit of dare and was fouled near the box on the right. Made good decisions passing. Did not get a good scoring chance, though his teammates did. Nice 1st outing for him as he clearly fits into the team.

    CANADIAN HYPOCRICY

It's pretty obvious who on this board respects "freedom of choice" and those that don't. People from all over the world have come to Canada because we as a society believe every individual in this country has the right and freedom to make choices as long as those choices do not affect others adversely. Of course, there will always be a small percentage of individuals in every society that go against the flow. Ones who do not believe and respect the choices that others make, like smoking pot, having an abortion, or ... the list is endless. How would you like it if someone publicly called you a whore because they didn't like the choice you made? But, those same individuals think that similar choices that work in their favour are alright. Some of them even goes as far as to tell me what hypocricy means. For those who have asked, what's the point of this thread? Well, one of the points is that it has exposed those who do not believe in freedom of choice. Hey, if the shoe fits ...

    CANADIAN HYPOCRICY

Is hate something that is tolerated and promoted in Canadian society? Do we condone those who vilify and persecute others? Are those the values and standards you teach to your kids, if you have any? Is that kind of behavior not illegal in this country? Personally, I would never support any organization, at whatever level, whether the Canadian Men's National Team, the Vancouver Whitecaps or even the Victoria Highlanders, that tolerates any standard of hatred in the stands, and I would certainly not consider taking a young impressionable person into such an environment. Now I'm sure that you don't wear KKK bed sheets Ted, and that you only suffer mildly from a case of misguided- slightly hypocritical-Canadian-trying-to-act-like-a-European-hooligan syndrome, right?

    Does Victor Have The Balls?

I did forget to include the following positive achievement during Mt. Vic's tenor as president of the CSA: May 5, 2012 - Victor Montagliani elected president of CSA. http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/montagliani-elected-csa-president/ April 19, 2013 - Columbus FC, Mt. Vic's club, gets inducted into The Soccer Hall of Fame as the Organization of Distinction. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Articles2012/TheCanadianSoccerHallofFameannounces2013In.aspx The facts speak for themselves. The Victor Montagliani era can be summed up as the most disappointing chapter in the history of the CSA, as in the end he accomplished sweet **** all for soccer in Canada. Although personally, he didn't fare too badly from the experience. Shame on you, Victor.
