  1. My big regret is that we likely have seen the last of Ousted as he moves on to other footballing challenges. The man was an excellent servant for the club, both off the field and on. No doubt he was bitterly disappointed not to get the starts in the playoffs, but he handled himself with absolute class. Massive props, David!

  2. There have been calls on here for Osorio's to leave TFC. I don't know if Davies would get a lot of better development with TFC or the Impact but the Caps currently seem to be the worst of the three teams in developing players. The problem for a lot of us is that we see a very talented Canadian and want him to be trained by a top notch coach and feel like he is not getting very high level coaching with the Caps and Robinson. In his case it makes me wish we were back in the old days when under 18 could go over to Europe and the Caps were farming out their young players to Germany to teams who ac

  5. Surprise, a board with 100's of members has differing, or opposite opinions. Not funny at all but very common and normal. As far as the younger players now, Harry you are probably right, the level has risen and its getting harder to give our youngsters a shot. When Tiebert, Osorio, Morgan etc came up a few years ago they were at par with MLS level. But can hardly get any minutes now with the talent level increasing every season. Chapman, Bustos, Adegube, Crepeau etc probably would have gotten better shots at breaking in 5-6 years ago. Which just reinforces the need for our own league at

He was in a U-17 camp years ago. His brother was playing for canadian youth teams, and for the Eddies. CSA knew about him. Before 6months ago was anyone here talking about him?? When we we going to call him up this summer?? If he got called to the Gold Cup, the screams would be heard from Gandor to Penticton. Lets try and have some realistic expectations here. While we were all pining for Crisante, and Ferrira (long shots) etc, this guy is getting away. And whos to say if this is the kiss of death....Bustos came back after being invited to another countries camp. How could he turn it

I suppose it's a generational thing to a point. As someone in their mid 20s, it was a completely different experience I grew up in small town Ontario, fairly conservative area, exactly what you'd expect as soccer hater central...but I'd say at least 80% of my cohort played organized soccer at some point and a good 10-20% would consider it their main sport to watch once TFC came around. Hockey reigned supreme, and there were a few Jays and Raptor fans, but soccer quickly became #2 when they gave people a team to cheer for. Almost none of us grew up caring about the pro game, but TFC flippe

Liam scored again today for Liverpool FC in a 6-0 thrashing of West Ham U18's in the Premier league cup. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/academy/280471-camacho-at-the-double-as-u18s-hit-west-ham-for-six This follows up his assist in the UEFA Youth League win 3-0 vs Maribor FC. 10. They'll probably appeal to a higher court and will definitely finish out their 2017 season, but this puts a huge question mark over their future for 2018. Some teams will probably fold or defect now even if they do appeal rather than risk playing at D3 level in a league that may be in its final death spiral. If there's a lesson to be learned for new leagues it is to keep control of wages and not allow rich egomaniacs to price out all the competition by spending more than they can afford to keep pace with. Two incarnations of the Cosmos have destabilized two incarnations of the NASL in that man

  14. This whole dump on the whitecaps bovine scatology is getting pretty stupid. According to the11.ca he has 7 minutes less than Osorio. So where is the "FREE OSORIO" thread? While I would very much like to see Davies play more he has to EARN IT. Something you all seem to be forgetting. Continually! He's far from a bum but he is far from the player you all think he is. What development opportunity will he get elsewhere that he won't in Vancouver? I seriously think he has the potential to be a Yordy Reyna type mid but he has a ton to learn and his judgement is lacking. That will develop

  15. That was bizarre. If they were going to go three at the back (it is still unclear what their plan was when they took DeJong off), they should have subbed out Harvey. I know that he came in as a sub, but he offers nothing going forward. To sub Shea on down a goal and then have him play half of that time at left back was bewildering to say the least. Sadly, DeJong as a left back, was probably their most effective offensive player over the two legs.

  16. For sure, he isn't high up the pecking order but he is on their radar. Similar to the Cristante situation it likely means he is no closer to considering Canada and has probably set us back a good couple of years in possibly getting him to suit up. That is the frustrating thing. Can't blame Portugal for taking a look, Can't blame him for going. Its just another crappy situation we have to ride out and hope he becomes the next Tesho not Cristante. That said hopefully he wont be frozen out by Oz.

  17. I think, with Whitecaps, the question is not whether you are bad or not. The key question is whether you can get past the assinine coaching and make the guy look good even when he has no clue what he's doing. You have to have a lot of quality as a player to ensure your coach is not shown up by your play when he adds nothing to it.

  20. It's not over yet with him, but we overall should chill out with posting here until news that he wants to join us. Obviously it is not likely, but heck he could have a horrible game and that's it with him playing for Portugal. I don't wish him to play bad against USA some may, but in truth CSA needs to call in someone to help evolve the youth program throughout Canada and create one umbrella that will benefit CMNT in the future which will take a long time. With CPL coming at some point this is a step in the right direction and I am hoping youth teams will be set up by club teams from the momen

Just for friendlies. The Olympic cut off is 97 birth year. this is just frustrating because we put ourselves in a situation to do absolutely nothing. We have a small pool as is so it's really unacceptable to have this guy called before us.. not every day you have a player open to playing for us.

Hard to say as it sounds like he was never selected for a Canada youth team? After watching game highlights dont think he developed his skills only in the past year. CSA are doing a poor job scouting our youth. We saw this recently when TFC had an insane number of players on the U17 team. Oz recently stated in an interview that we need to improve scouting of players and submitted a plan to the CSA for approval. This and the fact that we need better coaches/mangers for our youth teams. Our performances recently have been very poor. Does take money. We need some big corporate sponsors to come

  24. Think people need to bear in mind that he is still only 17. Alex Ferguson has sometimes said that one of his biggest regrets as a manager was bringing on young players like Eric Black and Neale Cooper too fast in terms of making them first team regulars with Aberdeen because they burned out later in their careers and never reached the peaks of success they might have when most players should be hitting their prime in their late 20s. I suspect Carl Robinson will have been influenced by that sort of thing.

Jays definitely - and at the risk of starting an argument - I'd argue even more popular than the Leafs for people in that category, if my Facebook feed is remotely comparable to the "downtown millennial" population. I see far, far more people posting pics from their games than from any other sport. I imagine having a halfway decent team and tickets that are cheap (not to mention actually available) plays a large part in that. Also having players who haven't taken a dozen hockey pucks to their faces.

It may be a regional thing as well...since I'm not that much older than you. BC is pretty heavily influenced by Asian and American culture, as opposed to the more European influenced Ontario. Also, being on the other side of the world from Europe means that most kids from BC aren't waking up before sunrise to watch EPL and Bundesliga fixtures...but the NFL and MLB are always on. Hockey rules of course, but soccer isn't the second most culturally relevant sport in BC as you say it is in Ontario. The Seahawks are still way bigger than the Caps and baseball may be ahead of soccer too.

  28. yeah, I agree. Still, he was mostly tidy last night, just not tidy enough in a couple of key instances. I still feel he will prove an upgrade on guys like Tchani, Jacobson and Tiebert. Keep in mind that the Nosa, Ghazal and Reyna are all new to the team, and have not played much together. while the caps did not do much going forward, they had more of the ball than I'd expected, and were mostly very tidy. I feel they are still lacking some quality in key attacking areas, but I like what I've seen from Nosa in the short amount of time that he's been with the team. I expect we'll see stronger

It’s only U21, so he won’t be capped. He seems proudly Canadian. This could help us because he’s going to be playing and training with good players and against good competition. I just hope Canada jumps on him quick after his time and he gets called up to the senior team, we need another CM badly. Man we need some games! Come on CSA organize some games

  35. We'll trade you Ben Spencer and a Supplemental pick... But seriously, Davies is stagnating in Vancouver. Carl Robinson is a dinosaur with a nice British accent that masks the fact he has no idea how to coach ball possession. Had Davies stayed in Edmonton and signed with FCE it would have been the same with Colin Miller. So what do you do? Now that he's cap-tied send him out on loan to a Liberian league team?

  36. Ghazal is straight awful.. to call his passing Sunday league would be an insult to Sunday leaguers. Same problem as 2 years ago for the caps.. no attack. Vancouver needs their game breaker like valeri or lodeiro paired with a powerful striker so that they can offer more than a quick counter.

I think it's time to give Borjan some serious props! When was the last time we had a keeper starting for a Europa/Champions League team? (Lars in 2007?) When was the last time we had a keeper shutout a team like Arsenal? I'm really glad he's finally found a consistent starting gig and on a club in the Europa league and with a major domestic following. The guy bleeds red and white and carries his balls around in a wheelbarrow, and he deserves the success he's found this year. I hope it lasts and I hope some of the struggles and frustrations he's had at other clubs just makes it all that much sw

    CSA Finances 2015

If these game were giving substantial direct funding to things that help Canadian soccer I could agree to them but usually it seems any profits go to private entities. Also in my experience of events like this they are mostly one-offs that attract people already watching foreign soccer and do little to grow the game here. I am not a big fan of friendlies that the Impact or other Canadian teams play but I have occasionally run into people who said they went to their first Impact game because we were playing a friendly against Bordeaux or Boca and they wanted to see the foreign team but liked th
