Why people wear club colours to National games baffles me. Especially wearing them in Supporters sections where you know there will be Vs or National team ultras from other clubs and even more ridiculous is wearing rival colours in the ultras section of your opponent! Like that's just ignorant and asking for abuse. Do people get National team culture? Like I have friends that are Man U, Chelsea and Man City fans and when England plays they wear the three lions.

Interesting you bring that up. Did anyone else see Sportsnet Central Montral last Thursday? One of the topics was the Canada game and it was all a joke from the get go with comments like "there was a Canada game?" or:" I don't care about a team that's ranked 106, maybe when they are a top 25 I might get excited" or" they played a team nobody knows". The whole thing lasted about 30 seconds with laughs all around. Then we wonder why we are in this condition. I think I better stop now.

Hmmm, seems like there are alot of rules for going to a soccer game. I would have worn any of my soccer jerseys to a match before being warned not to. Usually paying for the ticket and cheering on the team is enough, all dress codes aside.

@Grizzly you've spent enough energy making the best possible Canada match and atmo. Thank you. You don't need to explain any further to people who clearly don't appreciate. Hopefully that changes but until then I'll just thank you for hosting. @Olympique_de_Marseille sorry to hear you were unwell. Feel better soon!

The Return of Litterbox, the telepathic alien fly; Litterbox; "Long time no see!" Cheeta; "Geezus! ****, man. You scared the Hell out of me!" Litterbox; "You knew I was coming. Sent you a text weeks ago." Cheeta; "Yeah, yeah. Forgot. Lost track of time but I'll be honest with you. With all the shootings going on down south wasn't sure you could cross the border. But glad to see you old friend." Litterbox; "I'm a fly. From an alien world. Crossing international borders on Earth is a joke. Now getting to Winnipeg from Florida with these little wings? I don't think so. Hitched a ride on a jet this AM." Cheeta; "Forgot you were down there. Hey! You hear Cyle Larin got busted on a DUI in Florida?!." Litterbox; "Hear it? I was there. But listen, you want the dirt on Trump and his flunkies or what? This is some next level ****.." Cheeta; "YOU WHERE THERE?" Litterbox; "sigh....Really? You know we were just out clubbing. Sharing some time with the ladies and got a bit careless. No harm done thankfully but yeah, sure, CL messed up. Going to have to take his lumps and learn his lesson. But listen, this Trump **** is inter-stellar. And it's all set to go KA-BOOM. I'm telling you, you're not going to ....." Cheeta; ... Litterbox: "I should have know." Larin; "Evening officer!." Copper; "Evening, sir. Do you realize you were driving the wrong way down the street?" Larin; "Hoo! Really? Certainly explains all those ******** swerving around me!" Copper; "I just want to mention at this point that you are a person of colour and I haven't pointed my sidearm at you yet during this after sunset traffic stop." Larin; "' 'ppreciate that! Hmm. Must be the BMW. But, uh...this red dot flashing into my eye?" Copper; " Oh, that's my partner by the cruiser. CHUCK! IT'S OK. HE AIN'T LOCAL. GOT SOME SORT OF QUEER YANKEE ACCENT!" Larin; "Canadian. Canadian accent." Copper: *snicker* "That a fact? Didn't realize you folks drive on the left side of the road up there? Doesn't matter if you do or don't I'm still going to have to write you up for driving the wrong way down the street. Oh. And sir, in the future you're going to want to put open liquor bottles in the trunk of your car. Doesn't matter if that vodka bottle is mostly empty it's against the law here in Florida to have open liquor on your lap while driving. What brings you to Florida, sir?" Larin; "Me? I'm down here playing soccer. Pro-soccer. That's how I make my living." Copper; "Yeah?" Larin; "Yes, sir." Copper; "Suppose..supposing you're a STAR STRIKER or something." Larin; " Yes, sir. Best they got if I say so myself.." Copper; "... "So let me see if I got this straight. You're a Canadian, playing professional soccer in these United States and you are your teams star striker? Is that right?" Larin; "Bingo." Copper; "Boy, GET YOUR DRUNK ASS OUT OF THAT CAR!"

People can do as they want we live in a free country where we pretty much bend over rather than stand for something. I get that people from said hometown just happen to wear the home colours, do I agree with it? No. To me just doesn't make sense, you're at a National team game, support your country. Where's your pride? Plus it's like a fashion faut pas. Me personally, even though my allegiance is to Montreal, Canada comes first and above all. I wouldn't wear an Impact shirt to a Canada game and I would never wear an Impact shirt in the Southsiders section or Inibriati section for respect and not to get punched. Does wearing a Habs jersey or Leafs jersey or Canucks jersey make sense to wear at a Canada game?

Ive also seen this Toronto. Very odd. I also don't subscribe to going the whole 90 minutes. To me it just ends up blending in as background noise. I think one of the great things about attending a football match is experiencing all of the highs and lows and the way the crowd coveys those feelings. The lows are just as important as the highs.

Personally I am pretty disappointed that certain people have to act like asses and ruin what was otherwise a pretty nice event despite the small number of people there. If people who are guests in our section don't like the way we do our supporters section they are entitled to go elsewhere and support in the way they like. They are not entitled to disrespect and insult the members of our kop. It reminds me a bit of when we asked for no club colours and a bunch of TFC fans said "No one is going to tell me what to wear to a game" and wore TFC stuff in our kop and made it hard even now to get a lot of people from our kop out for Voyageurs events. I am pretty sick of this ****, if our way of doing things in 132 is not going to be respected by a significant number of Voyageurs then I think the Voyageurs should be setting up their section with another supporters group and going to another supporters groups bar, maybe with 1642. Yes there are different ways of doing a supporters section and many here are used to a British style. But do you really expect to come to Montreal and find us doing things in the British style you expect? Also there was a time where Britain had a pretty good supporters culture but I think it has declined a lot for a variety of reasons from the side effects of the crackdown on hooligans to the raising of ticket prices so that many normal supporters can't afford tickets and the stadiums are full of well to do people not interested in singing. There are a few clubs still hanging on to old traditions in the lower divisions and even a few in the EPL (Crystal Palace, Liverpool) but mostly when I turn on an EPL game I hear a very silent stadium. I don't think that is what we should be aspiring to. Also people standing in the middle of the kop with their arms crossed and and not singing much are a bad influence on the group. Any good capo will either motivate these people or get them to leave if they are unwilling so they do not bring down the group as a whole. The 40 or so people who were singing were doing so intensely so good job to them and not one of these people complained to me afterwards. It was due to these people that such a small kop was still heard both in the stadium and the broadcast. Also the young girl on the capo stand was the daughter of a friend of mine also at the game and I asked her if she wanted to go on the stand and she said yes and had as her mother said, "an amazing time". We often have children on the stand at our games and they are always protected if people rush the stand after a goal. A 7 year old girl had no problem with singing the entire time as did several others there in their 60s so I am not sure why it is apparently so difficult for some. That being said most of the people there were cool particularly those who came to the bar before and after the game. In addition to some of the Montreal guys we had several from far away like Mathew and Lord Bob, some guys from Ottawa including Jambo Al and 4 or 5 Bytown Boys all of whom came to the bar before and after the game and seemed to have enjoyed themselves. One of the Bytown Boys brought a drum and drummed along with our drummer, they were good guys, no problem with them whatsoever and they did a good job singing. Jamie and a few of the Toronto guys were also at the bar and brought some Supporter United Shirts for Canada that they gave away to everyone and that was well appreciated too as pictured below.

As much as some of us raz Larin for this cause yeah it was a dumb thing to do he's just a young man. I'm sure he learned his lesson. I think all of us were disappointed about it for a whole slew of reasons, the way he lied, used his status, put others people's lives in jeopardy, but at least he was a man to acknowledge this and for letting everyone down. I forgive the big guy. As for (not) selecting him and the Canadian media or PC SJW public having an outcry I'd be surprised since most times we are not on their radar. The NHL, Canada Hockey and WNT get more exposure than the CMNT. So he made a mistake I don't think it merits losing him the whole GC. Frankly I find what Messi and Ronaldo do with tax evasion and fraud by the millions and getting off jail time more disturbing and shameful compared to the actions of a 22 year old Larin.

Honduras has won 1 of their last 8 matches and that was a home win against Nicaragua. Even if we get 4 point in the group (get a point off of Honduras or Costa Rica and beat FG) we are basically guaranteed to advance. Hell, we probably advance with 3 points and a good goal differential. I think it would be a massive disappointment not to get out of the group. Finish bottom of the group- Disaster. Fire everyone. Finish 3rd and don't advance- Disappointment. Lose in Quarters- Met expectations. Anything else- Get excited about next WC cycle.

This really is only peripherally related to Cyle's DUI, but I've wondered about his mentality for a while. I'm not really keen to be quick to judge, but his regular referral to going to Europe seems off to me. It always seemed like he was already there in the way he spoke about it. Could have been my imagination though. Having said that, he clearly put in a ton of work over the off-season. He looked incredibly fit and seems to have had no trouble going 90min whereas last season he was often gassed after 70. Likely this has already been discussed ad nauseum in this thread. I just don't have the heart to go through and read it. Situations like this are the pits for all involved.

There is no way he'll be on our squad for the GC. The main reason is that we would go into the cup with the press nagging us about Larin, our standards, and the first official Zambrano call-up would be altered from the moment go. If it was my first tournament as coach, I'd leave him off to let the rest train and focus without having that there, which we do not need. We will be fine without him. Hey Anthony, Lucas, Tossaint, it is time to step up, all yours. Go for it. The CSA won't allow it in any case, so as to send out a message, both internal and external. And Zambrano, seeing he is a bit cold striking, will agree 100%. We are going to enjoy the tournament way more without Cyle, for sure, take my word. Nothing to do with his play, it is about mentality.

    Ideas how to generate revenue

I would have no issue paying $500.00 for an annual membership that includes season tickets, a sliver of the ownership and voting rights on the general direction of the club. In terms of a TV deal, TSN has lost a lot of sports with the NHL and Blue Jays moving to Sportsnet but they've been able to maintain a strong soccer presence. I can see TSN & Bell/CTV playing a huge role in providing revenue to the league from TV/online exposure but in the initial years, it wouldn't be as lucrative for the league. If every single CanPL match can be televised to a national audience through CTV & TSN and they ensure that none of the games overlap, you'll find that a lot more people would watch more matches. IN terms of kit sponsorship, I would hope that each team can find their own local sponsor rather then one sponsor for the entire league.

Question, do Juan Cordova, Fikayo Tomori, or Bryan Cristante receive federal funding from Chile, England or Italy? Or were the clubs responsible for their payment? Tabla received the highest federal funding we could give him since he was 15. He has been part of every youth setup and directly compensated for his participation, not just for the youth teams, but for being a Canadian professional.

I dont care if you appreciate my comment. I will never have someone making derogatory comments or in my face yelling unless its my manager. Especially if i paid money to go support a team how i choose to support. Shoot, if you dont man up and stand up for yourself in that situation he might think its ok to do it a second time. If you're going to be in peoples faces talking down, you better be ready to throw the hands, because not everyone will just accept being disrespected.

Those three players if and when Tabla signs on could be the start of something big for Canada. When the CPL starts there will be more chances to catch players who might otherwise fall through the cracks. I don't have the intense scrutiny of the academies of the past 8 years but I don't think we have produced 3 players of that quality in a short time. Hopefully it will continue.

No, definitely not. They would have made a maximum effort to ensure either was on the squad. Cyle Larin is nowhere near that player. In fact, we have never had that player, ever, int he history of the NT. I would love to see one day we have a premium player like that we do everything possible to have play with us, after any incident, simply because he is an international game-breaker.

    Impact 2017 Season.

Arregui loan is terminated. He showed little when he was here. As great as Piatti is and Romero is a good player who is finally back from his major injury, the Impact has far too much of a history of signing mediocre, unskilled Argentinians. One fears there is some management link to an agent behind this. However, at least in Arregui's case they reacted quickly and released him. It is likely to clear salary to sign another defender to replace Oyongo. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/06/16/montreal-impact-part-ways-midfielder-adrian-arregui

Everything above sounds fantastic. My only point would be that a debut season with 8 teams in 2019 makes much more sense to me than a debut with 6 teams in 2018. I don't think a shortened season is worth it with 6 teams across the 2nd biggest nation in the world, World Cup 2018 fever and all considered. I don't really get the rush at all. If it's with World Cup 2026 in mind, then a 2019 launch works as fine as a 2018 launch, 2019 and 2020 is when the FIFA guys come around to inspect the bids.

Is it still too late to award it to Australia? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_soccer_stadiums_in_Australia They have 5 stadiums that have over 50,000 capacity and 4 more stadiums between 30,000 - 49,999. They were a close runner-up and if anyone can pull it off in a short period of time, it would be a civilized country like Australia.

I unfortunately don't have a lot of live-game experience - PEI tends not to host that many large games... But in the games I have attended while traveling (Toronto, Perth, Havana...), it seems like there is a pretty clear expectation of active participation in the designated supporter section. Put simply, that is what that specific section seems to be about. If you don't plan to sing, clap, or otherwise play along, I am not sure why you would choose to be in that specific section. Maybe you want to have some sort of anthropological fan experience, but if that is the case you probably deserve any calling-out that is directed your way. With a great number of other sections available for those interested in a more passive fan experience, buying tickets in a known active supporter section and then refraining from participating seems at least as disrespectful as being called out on it. Just my $0.02, and like I said, this is just based on a feeling and a very limited scope of experience.

What should our gold cup lineup be?

I've defended Straith on many occasions here but I think he is a latter day Pozniak for us: utility guy, can fill some spots as needed, good guy to bring on in midfield to help kill off a game, but not a first choice starter at CB.

In the past it's kind of been a self-perpetuating problem whereby players didn't choose us because we weren't very good, and then without them, we weren't very good, so players didn't choose us and so on. From their POVs, I can see why they made the decisions they did. Begovic got to play in a world cup as did DeGuzman. ********** played Euro and World Cup IIRC. In hindsight, from their individual POVs it seems they all did the right thing for themselves. Of course, as we all bleed red, each time a player chooses another country, it hurts, but the rules are what they are and I don't blame any player for giving himself the best chance to play in a major competition. Maybe if they all chose Canada, it would have been different but I don't begrudge them their decisions. Still sucked though. That's why it's been so nice lately to see players like Arfield, Hoilett, and especially now Davies, choose to represent Canada. That piece on him and his family was touching. To me, that's what Canada is about. Can't wait to see him in the red and white. I really think this team is getting better and will have a good GC. Maybe players choosing us will have the opposite effect that players not choosing us used to have. If we can get deep into the GC, it might sway a player or two. Maybe it's just my Voyageurs' unshakeable optimism though, I find it hard to divest myself of that. In the end, all we can do is get behind the guys who wanna be here. At least it seems there are a few more of those these days than there used to be.
