    Alphonso Davies

Watching the Caps Kansas City game and Davies got subbed in part way through the 2nd. He is a friggin beast. Strong and fast going forward, great tracking back defensively and a nice sliding tackle to stop a cross from coming in. He isn't "good for a kid" - he is just plain good. He has been involved in a ton of build up plays since coming on. The fact that he is so young is amazing. Really exciting to think about how high he may be able to go. And as I type this, he has the calm presence to grab Shea and pull him out of a confrontation.

I'd move Timmie's up so it's centred on a bar. Hmm, what about if one of the chest stripes was made up of the five thin sleeve stripes, so they carry all way across? Or, instead of thick even hoops, use the sleeve stripe as the thickness for some pinstripes. A bit more "inspired by" the Cats sleeves instead of actually using them. It's kinda hard to make black and gold look bad, tbh.

    Alphonso Davies

Manneh was often a pylon defensively. Rarely made a tackle. Davies, while occasionally slow to track the runner, almost never gets beat by his man. In addition, I think Davies has already shown quicker thinking, and better awareness than Manneh ever has. He has plenty of time to learn what to do when matched for speed or double/triple teamed.

I just saw him when they were 2 up already, Argentina playing very weakly. I did not think he was shining really, I've seen him play better before (youth league matches for Chelsea guess they were, or I forget, European u-20 maybe?) I think that red was ridiculous, yes, it is a flying elbow, but you can't red all those, they'll be 4 a game, almost every corner has players jumping with arms and elbows too high. Also, because the Argie just threw it, he did not look where it was going. For me, a yellow. After all, if England had been down when that elbow had been thrown, he would not have stayed on the ground, he would have gotten up. So I suspect it. I could really care less about the guy, if he wants to play for England youth a few tournaments, if that makes him happy, all power to him. But leave him off this board.

Please excuse the 'dad lecture', but if you Toronto folks aren't going into your meeting with the commitment to figure out and do what's best for CanPL soccer in Toronto front of mind, then you're going into the meeting with the wrong idea. If your principle concern is who was here first or who started this thing or who already has an established group, these are the things that make the process more difficult. This is meant in the most positive way possible btw. I know tons of people in Toronto who will want to be in a CanPL SG (if and when there's a team) and they are all fabulous people ... not joking ... everyone. But I've also seen outstanding people get pulled apart by petty concerns. And especially at the beginning of this, it's just not worth it. Go in with an open mind. Have a big tent mentality. Check your egos at the door. It's cliche to say, but we really are all in this together.

They are on pace to qualify for their 3rd straight WC, four points clear leading their group of four teams, which include Cameroon and Algeria. They have more players in top clubs / leagues than ever, such as Iwobi (Arsenal), Iheanacho (Man City), Moses (Chelsea), Musa (Leicester City), Ndidi (Leicester City) etc. Most of these guys are very young too. I don't think any Nigerian would consider their team to be in a down period. The future is very bright indeed. Why would he need to fail hard for Nigeria to be a second choice? I don't quite understand that statement.

    VWFC "Owners Circle"

I don't really understand why this has become a big deal among certain supporters all of a sudden. This is at least the second season in which this owners circle has been around. It is a VIP experience that allows the club to extract more money out of fans that have that money to spend. Money that is most likely reinvested into things like the residency program. I do not begrudge the owners or the club in this regard.

Davies needs to be developed slowly and carefully. The Whitecaps have an obligation to do that with a 16 year old, and this will only help his career both professionally and for his country.

Not really sure there needs to be a definitive vote on a "name" until we get other questions settled. I'm just hoping for a decent amount of people to show up and get an airing of the various views on how to best drum up a good critical mass of supporters to back a Toronto CPL Club. In that same vein, I'm almost done work out here in Halifax, but I'm still 50/50 on whether I can make it for the 30th. I hope someone takes the lead on making rough minutes of the meeting for the benefit of those who can't make it.

    Tyler Pasher

Made his MLS debut tonight at Vancouver. Some commentators on that thread are harsh, I reply as you can't expect a newcomer to be better than a team that played badly, IMO. He tried to take on Williams and find the end line, but was relatively unassisted and the SKC team as a whole was weak. From the SKC site, interview with him: https://www.sportingkc.com/post/2017/05/20/quotes-sporting-kc-0-2-vancouver-whitecaps-fc-may-20-2017 Sporting KC forward Tyler Pasher Thoughts on making MLS debut... “Obviously I was excited to come in and get my debut, in the starting lineup playing up front. It took me a bit to get into the game and see what it was like playing at this level and as the game went on I started to get more comfortable and settled in with the team.” On the transition from USL... “Definitely a big difference. A lot faster, a lot less time on the ball. But I felt as the game went on, I started to get more comfortable and begin to adapt to the speed of play as quickly as I could. It was just good to get a bit of experience and build from it.” On the match... “I thought we started well in the first half. It was just one of those games where they had a good cross, good finish, and it kind of set us back a bit. Some mistakes that we made we got punished for, but at the end of the day I think it was an okay performance from us.” On team fatigue from Wednesday being a factor... “Maybe, but the guys came out with the same ambition we do every single game, so it was just an unfortunate result for the team.”

I pretty well agree with this too. Germany would be amazing, France too. Italy too hard to score in so hard to be happy in as a striker, it is so stingy for strikers. He's not yet good enough for Spain and probably not England either.

    Alphonso Davies

For me it was far from Davies best contribution, the whole team was running at SKC those minutes, his side, middle and the other, we deserved about 3 goals more. And others were more definitive in their play. That hard foul on him led to the goal, and yes, he takes on defenders. In one play the defender simply absorbed his speed and he had no answer. So we were saying, better learn a few more tricks, kid, just speed and running, that, like end lines, will creep up on you eventually. For me he has to develop way better, or else he'll just be Manneh the 2nd. Just saying this because for me, he was not even amongst the top half dozen on the field for us the last half hour.
  26. 1 point
I don't agree. They had very little attack and played badly, but the deepest they got was up his wing, he pushed from mid into the left wing and challenged Williams. A lot of balls went long and he was not overly well served. That whole team was like a 3/10, they were very poor. So Pasher cannot be judged too harshly, they had 8 guys with lame games out there. SKC fans on the MLS board are saying "let's play Didic", then hey, we can't, he's a foreigner and we don't have an international roster spot for him. So another Canadian discriminated by the MLS wall rule.

Huge shock, I don't think he's even been on the bench this season. He's starting at LW. Pretty annoying to see Vancouver not starting a Canadian match after match (5 in a row now). What's the point of supporting a team that plays foreigners on concrete? May as well watch a foreign club.

Is there a way to get all these logos in one place? I am really enjoying coming back and seeing the updated concepts, but it is kind of a hassle to scroll through 64 pages each time. It'd be awesome if we could have some sort of webpage set up or something where we could view all the finalized logos one place. Bonus points if we could get them all on to a map or maps. I think that'd be a cool look.

Just looking at the online response even outside this thread...seems like the name itself is the most divisive thing going around. Might just be time to abandon it for anyone who is attending on the 30th, simply because a mainstream meeting for Toronto CPL fans needs to happen, but the name doesn't right now. If at a later point there's a group that wants to call itself the Cronenbergs, go for it, but right now it seems like the name is turning people off to the idea of joining up It's not really realistic to start splintering immediately over the name, you're not at the critical mass of people yet

The league is internationally famous. The radio version of World Soccer (5:00AM Pacific on Saturday mornings on BBC World Service via CBC Radio 1) just had a brief interview with Carlo Corazzin. He talked about how difficult it is to have anything truly national because of the size of the country, and he thinks there'll be playoffs rather than the standard championship. Also, how the CSL failed because they tried to expand too quickly and that MLS teams joining the league is a possibility only in the distant future.

Out of the to 4 leagues, I think his game would benefit most in Germany. It may force him to improve technically without being overwhelmed, or at least that's my hope. Italy would be an interesting move, but it is hard to score in that league, which may be good or bad depending on how you view it. The top scorers in that league always seem to have lower totals than elsewhere. Too bad we haven't seen any French links. I think that would be an interesting level for him. Signing for a OM or Lyon could provide a high level with enough chances that he's not completely glued to the bench, or so I dream. Realistically though, i'd feel better with a Rennes or Saint Etienne, where he'd really get a solid chance. I'm confident about that.

This makes me happy. A Quebec City team is just as important as a team in Hamilton. It gives the opportunity to have a big rivalry with the MLS teams. It will help solidify the league. Not to mention Quebec the province has a population of 8.5 million. That is a lot of Canadians that would be missing out on the league.
