  5. Those poor starving university students are paying 7$ a beer/shot and 10$ cover charge every weekend at the downtown bars. Pretty sure they can scrape up 15$ for a ticket now and then over 10 home dates. On top of that they support the local hockey team at 20$ a ticket over 35 home dates. Why all the negativity anyway regarding the Halifax bid? We are a large, diverse, sport knowledgeable city. Sometime the folks on here from Upper Canada seem to think we are a small outpost in the middle of a forest. Like any other sports franchise in Canada we will rely on a cross section of folks to su

PDL schedule has been released. WSA Winnipeg opens the season in Des Moines on May 20th and don't play a home game until game 6 against Thunder Bay on June 3rd. Hopefully they have a pre-season tournament again with other Canadian PDL teams too.

A lot of people questioning a small city like Halifax drawing decent crowds. Chattanooga FC, which in in a city that has has a a smaller urban population than Halifax and is well over a 90 minute drive from the closest major cities, tweeted this. Game A was one of the best drawing US MNT friendlies of the last 3 years and the other saw 12,000 (including 4,000+ locals) turn out to watch an amateur side get smoked by an MLS side. A mini non-traditional and semi-isolated market was able to draw big time (Chattanooga FC actually draw better than USL numbers regularly as well) If don

Yes, i am refering to the FIFA eligibility requirements. So either you are born here or have a parent or grandparent born here, or you meet residency requirements. The res. reqs are you have to live here for 5 consecutive years after age 18 or if you moved here as a youth for non-footballing reasons you can apply for a special exemption.

  17. I think the 8K figure comes from FC Edmonton's Fath as the number he said he needed to break even (which I think he was overstating a bit) a couple years back. San Antonio Scorpions made a profit of 600K in 2014 averaging approximately 6700 per game. Your dead on with the first year expectations - the owners of CPL clubs need to be able to sustain losses the first 5 years at least until the league is firmly established and from what I've heard they know it. Vast majority of NASL and USL teams lose money. The 5K average figure would be a good first year for the CPL and t

Having a Canadian passport does not automatically make him eligible. Where were his parents and grandparents born? If they were born outside Canada he will require a special exemption as he has not been able to meet the residency requirement yet due to his age. How much time did he spend in Canada as a youth?

  19. Back on topic; I'm fairly bullish on a Halifax team. I think having a summer monopoly and a good downtown location with a right sized 8,000 seat stadium goes a long way. Theres going to be good buzz for the team; there's already regular press about the expansion idea. I'm going to assume that both local newspapers will have a columnist assigned and they'll some coverage from CBC/CTV/Global out there. Halifax punches above it's weight in Media market size (it's the 11th largest media market at 700k because it's a regional center)

In your mind, how do MLS reserve teams save this league when you think every city would be lucky to draw 2,000 fan a game? 2,000 isn't sustainable for any level of fully pro soccer, not even USL. Your league would fold like a cheap suit, so why not at least try to go big? Just because you see London TFC as the easiest way to get a team back in London doesn't mean it's right for soccer in Canada. So please stop taking a shit all over this thread with your conspiracy theories, we just want to discuss what is actually happening.

Omar Salgado was allowed to play outside the United States (in Vancouver) despite being under 18. IIRC, he got around the FIFA statute because MLS is recognized as the same top flight for both countries. With that in mind, I don't see why Reid wouldn't be able to take advantage of the same "loophole."

  32. At the very least, I would like to see the CSA implement a structured plan to move to equal treatment of US players on Canadian soil. We don't have any leverage to force MLS to make the change for American teams, and it seems like MLS is either unable or unwilling to do anything about it, so the CSA should reciprocate. Do it on a time frame that allows our 3 clubs to develop players through their academies, bug no more cheap American journeymen getting benefits here we are not receiving south of the border. And that isn't simple retaliation - it would force our clubs to maximize Canadian de

  33. It's a shame that one potential defection has overshadowed all of the young men who have committed to play for our country! I doubt it will happen because most Canadian MLS fans don't seem to care but if Tabla has decided to pursue the Ivory Coast route fans should be letting him know their displeasure! There aren't many countries where this would be tolerated by the fans!

  34. Since this thread has been bumped, might as well mention that Wikipedia is wrong and he was not born in Quebec City. Born in Greenfield Park, QC, (suburb of Montreal). (Unless his mother is a superhero and managed to give birth to twins 300km apart). Chilean media were just putting "Quebec" without making it clear that that was the province and eventually that became Quebec City I think. http://canadasoccer.com/?t=profile&pid=4354 That is a very good move if it means playing time. Great that it's a club in Santiago so he doesn't have to move.
