Please don't say things like this, especially about players' families. It makes us all look bad. Also, there is no "go back to where you came from" in Canada. We all came from somewhere. Context and history are your friends. If they are Canadian citizens then they are as Canadian as anyone else. End of story.

  2. I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Phillips' Bakery is no longer by the library, as the library has moved on to nicer/larger digs. The good news is that I've found the precise location of Phillips' Bakery (which is not easy to do in a country that does not use address numbers). Is it on the south side of Lower Middle Street, between Higgenson Street on the west and Melville Street on the east. The building has a lime green paint job on its upper half, while the lower half has a paint job that resembles the Italian flag (or at least it did as of 2013). You can se

It's unfortunate, but there simply seems to be so much about the Vs that you just don't understand. First off, the forum is not the Vs. Lots of people on the forum don't even go to games. TONS of people who go to the games NEVER go on the forum. So to confuse this (the forum) with the 'Voyageurs Organization' is a critical error. This is simply a mostly unmoderated communication tool. Yes it is the Voyageurs Forum, so most of the people on here would consider themselves Vo

Do we have any evidence Floro called him and he turned the call down? I mean, when Uruguay 1st division is on the international break, and he has a chance to play vs. Mexico? Do we honestly think the guy is nuts? You score vs. Mexico, and better Canada gets a result and you score, and your whole fucken career sky-rockets. So by my logic, if Floro didn't call him: why the hell not!!??

  8. Sigh. Do folks think this is any big loss? At the tender age of 24 years Welshman has played a grand total of 6 MLS minutes, and 0 minutes in 3 years. He hasn't seen the 18 yet for RSL this year, nor has he been with Real Monarchs. He's been about as productive in his career to date as Caleb Clarke, plus he's 2.5 years older than Clarke. This is just like the Arfield situation but with Canada playing the role of Scotland. Welshman isn't good enough to be on our B team. He's not even remotely an improvement on forwards we have but many people don't rate, including Ricketts, Haber, Jac

It is true what you mention during the 80's, but not before that....well maybe 1974 when Haiti was the concacaf team but anyway i would just like to clear my statement about them being under more scrutiny, back in the day Concacaf would only get 1 ticket to the WC (before 1978) Back in 1978 - Mexico qualified easily, did terrible in the WC. (first WC with 2 concacaf teams after Mexico 1970) 1982 - Didnt qualify and some say it was due to corruption inside the mex federation and problems between players and coaches.. anyway they sucked back then....and El Salvador and Honduras e

As long as we get the seats filled with supporters, all other revenue stream will be met, Macksam is on target with his Vision, we need more visionaries not pessimist, we have had too many pessimist over the past 30 years including those whom were voted in as our CSA President in the past, while t

  12. Well, Mr Moldy If you think Friday night was a turtle performance by Canada, I don't know what to say. Newsflash.. .Canada is not good enough yet; tactics really are not the issue at this point; we are not beating Mexico 9 times out of 10 even with the greatest manager in the history of managers planning our tactics. We have a player pool that is the best it has ever been; this is cause for celebration for the future. It still, is not in the top 6 in our region; so making the Hex and getting that 4th spot with a playoff is our best opportunity this cycle and like it or not, Floro h

I would put Cavallini ahead of Haber and therefore would call him every camp. I've never seen either play a full match for their respective clubs so I don't have a huge sample size, just highlights and all the games they've played for Canada. That being said I think there's something different about Cavallini, he just doesn't seem to have the passion to play international football plain and simple. We don't understand because we would all die at the opportunity but he obviously doesn't. We don't know what his personal life is like, we don't know about his mentality or drive. We don't kno

  17. Would like to see Tesho get the start over Ricketts. This is one where it's baffling to me that Osorio isn't on the roster. I just can't think that an pre-season 35 year old deguzman is better than an early season Osorio at this point, especially considering the more defensive formation Osorio and Toronto have been playing so far this year. Also, put someone to replace Henry, Ledgerwood i suppose, or even Edgar if he doesn't get the start in CB.

I thought this was an interesting quote by Sigma FC Technical director Bobby Smyrnioits in the article announcing the Dominic Samuel signing: This is why I think having more professional clubs / academies via a domestic league is so important. The Whitecaps territory is millions of square kilometres. Do we really expect them to be able to sniff out all the best prospects west of Toronto?

It's not in the relevant statute. Please do send me the text of where you see this in the rules. Where is it Jeffrey? You mention you are enlightened, so we would all appreciate if you would share... I don't know what your particular grievance is, but in the short time since I joined the forum I have not once felt bullied as an "outsider." There's been a bit of name-calling around a clear nutcase, but it's all been relatively tame. Your first step into a community can't be to call them out, what do you expect to happen? Sit back, relax, and enjoy talking about our little soccer program. Taking it too seriously is entirely too much effort to be worth it.

  24. Watch it again. He leads with two feet in a manner that could very well have seen him shown a straight red card. After his reckless lunge, he ended up on his ass with the ball between his feet from whete he proceeded to fight for the ball. The initial lunge was silly and could have cost us badly.

  25. I actually think if Canada played at the Azteca first then the outlook would be different. The hype and the pressure, of coming up with a performance of grandeur I think might have forced Canada to try and attack Mexico and show something to the crowd. They went away from what worked against Honduras and what their strengths are. I think they will play better in Mexico.

  26. Just off the top of my head I can name a bunch of guys that would end up in the CPL that people would pay money to see. I think the playing level could be quite reasonable to produce attractive soccer. Anyone in the NASL or USL, Ricketts, Nakajima-Farran, Aleman, Boakai, Simeon Jackson, Haber, Edwini-Bonsu, Hainault, Clarke, Jakovic, Occean, Straith, Hume, Piette, Fisk, Stama. Plus pretty much all our bench-warming MLS players to be honest. There's a bunch of our regulars or semi-regular players in that pool. I'd say most if not all of them could fit into a CPL salary structure an

  27. We discussed the player pool to death last month, but it's buried in our 46 page thread. I think everyone concluded that there's enough player depth for 100 CPL spots if the salary range is going to be $40k to $100k CAD.

You know what, I'm just going to pull a Marshawn Lynch and when anyone cites quality of play with gate attendance, I'm going to counter with my three factors for a soccer team to draw well: - Committed and driven ownership - Heavy promotion and community involvement - Professionalism

  29. Yeah thats true. I guess a few teams are going away from the first nations as names as sports clubs. I am not first nations so I cant speak for anybody apart of the first nations but I think that perhaps if its not a racial slur, like the washington team in the nfl, and is respectful of the first nations then I think its not only fine but something to be proud of. If there was a team named after premature balding pale white guys then I think I would support that team even if it was in another province

  30. Of course, it was another bit of amateurism from the CSA, that is obvious. However he expresses it, Robert is right in saying that the CSA, who organized the game at BC Place, was negligent and uttimately responsible for the negligence. I prefer one person making a valid point in a strange way, than thirty-five internet losers feeling the need to gang up on him because of the way he said it.

There's no shame playing all defensive when you're the overwhelming underdog and you just got schooled at home to the same team and this time you're playing away so you can give zero fawks of what the fans and media think. Not to forget Floro has been playing the triple T for the last 2 years why change now!? Hes made turtling so common that turtle necks are back in style. Don't give up now with the one trick show señor Benito. I seriously believe the CSA told Floro objective #1 was to make the Hex and Floro & Sons are just doing the minimum to ensure that and get their bonus. I

  32. I have just watched the replay of the match on TSN this morning and I think I was a bit harsh after the match. I will have to blame it on the over consumption of booze. Yes there were mistakes but after watching our guys I thought they played not to badly. Mexico was excellent and should be as 9 of the 11 starters played at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The pressure is off and I hope they can get some type of a result tonight. Really looking forward to the match. Go Canada Go

  34. I understand some of the people who are skeptical (it can be good) but a lot of the issues being raised have been dealt with before. Eg the player pool. I don't know first hand what the league is going to look like or if it even comes to fruition at all, but the original reporting citing 6-8 teams in CFL stadiums looks to be a good start. From what I understand the only CFL city not in the loop is BC out in Vancouver, and Edmonton is not a sure thing at all, and the Montreal ownership group is also looking into Quebec to start. So that would be: Hamilton, Ottawa, MTL/QUE, Winnipeg, Saska

  36. I wouldn't play him at Azteca either. He's better used in Honduras and the final game. We'll need to play a 3-6-1 to clog up the midfield and force Mexico to work hard pressing us. I would've put our most speedy wingers in tomorrow's game.

  37. Anything less than 3 points for Honduras tomorrow and they're done. A draw or an El Salvador win sets up a winner takes all final match at home against the Salvadorans, regardless of our result in Honduras.* *assumes Mexico wins all 3 of there remaining matches.

  38. After a few days to think about it, a few thoughts: - Though Arfield made it clear in his short time that he makes more happen than Ricketts, you can't blame the coaching staff for not starting Arfield as he was nursing an injury (do we know about his status for tomorrow's game?). - Henry showed why he will be a great defender. One on one, he was almost impossible to beat. However, his touch going forward was very poor and he clearly lacked positional awareness for his FB (as demonstrated by him not closing down the winger for the 1st goal and not returning to his position after his

  39. I would put it at 70-30 being a fair number which is fantastic for Canadian soccer. As for the Mexicans being louder, I was sitting right next to them and the only thing I heard was the occasional "Mexico, Mexico" chants and the puto on goal kicks. Obviously they had much more to cheer about throughout the game, but I don't see it in any way of the Mexicans coming in and taking over, like has been the norm in past years. Great show by all the V's who worked their arses off!

  40. Again, it doesn't really matter who the players are. We managed to find 20000 plus people on a consistent basis who paid money to see the likes of Chris Pozniak, Andy Welsh, Jeff Cunningham, Adam Braz, Todd Dunivant and Andrew Boyens to name a few. Unless you want to tell me these individuals were huge draws.

  43. As mentioned Vitoria is tied to us through his switch, same with Arfield. Regardless of whether either played on Friday their only international options is Canada. This was widely published in many of the articles in recent months about both players. I believe one of the reasons Arfield may not have started was due to issues with his back which inevitably flared up and forced him out of the game with a couple minutes left.

  45. Sounds fantastic but will never happen. MLS being single-entity and built on expansion fees has no interest in pro/rel. Canada also will probably not have a large enough league for a long time to justify multiple professional tiers. Finally, NASL and MLS are not going to cooperate on the pyramid, the MLS-USL partnership is trying to lock down tier 1 and 2 in the USA. I think we start with whatever 6 to 10 teams are ready to go in 2018, and let it build from there. There's some momentum from the WWC and what we saw in Vancouver, time to capitalize on good will. It's time, I think there are

Because -whether it is drawing a crap El Salvador B team or being humiliated by Honduras last cycle - we generally play like shit when we play away in Latin American countries.n All of that that may not seem significant to a knowledgeable pundit like you, but I happen to think it matters. The original point is that a coach needs to take the long view in a qualification cycle. Getting an intentional yellow (and sitting out a

This is really difficult to do for us, takes a lot of work and effort to make it happen. You don't have to deal with the security issues when a group of away supporters buy tickets in our section. I am pretty confident in saying you have never had to deal with this. This is a real problem for us and makes game day very not fun.
