My last thoughts on the matter: The fact some of you guys refuse to show any empathy is very frustrating to me. I assure you that life as someone who has duel-citizenship is not always as black and white as you guys make it seem. But I guess "haters gotta hate" sometimes.

I still believe that no matter the league, no matter what level the league is at the great majority of players should be there based on merit not nationality, however I would have no problem with a small quota system where say every Canadian team has to have say 3 Canadians on their overall roster or something equivalent . Moreover, I'm not too happy with the fact that Canadians are treated as foreigners on American MLS teams and hope it changes in the near future. However, I still find it odd that people have no problems with the other sports MLB and NBA in particular not having any quotas o

  5. What is worse, the attitude of MLS who can dishonour a contract, let teams waive players, trade them and barter them with zero loyalty, because of this bogus business of the contract belonging to the league? Or the players' attitude to their teams? I have no doubts about this: MLS is a league that is built on not respecting a player's loyalty and committment to the team he is with. But that does not mean the fans need to get infected by this shit behaviour and have a shameful attitude towards players who have performed perfectly well for them. Drogba performed excellently for Impact,

Like I said it's only been since 2007 that's nothing that's a 9 year old kid today, the Whitecaps even younger and the Impact the youngest, give it time and I will almost guarantee you that you will see more Canadians in the MLS, and again I actually see a great comparison with the NBA and the MLS, no quotas in the NBA but yet you have all these Canadian players. Grassroots soccer is changing for the good I've been involved in youth soccer for years and just in recent years changes have been made that will see more talent developed, just give it time, it's early days for these changes but you

Well how about this, if there are no players I give a shit about on the team, why should i watch?? Why do you think they trot out the few CDNs on the squad for TV ads, billboards and interviews. If I wanted to watch quality football with skilled players from anywhere in the world I would watch BPL, Serie A, Spanish soccer etc. I was super excited about TFC, VWC, impact because all 3 touted their desire to develop local talent, progress the game in Canada etc etc. I watch USL games on youtube so I can see young CDN players getting a pro shot. If the CDN teams wont even give CDN players a f

  8. We have more than enough players. Just check this list www.fussballeh.ca . We are talking about a league with maybe 8 teams to start. I don't agree with that quota necessarily, but the argument that we don't have enough players is invalid.

  9. Some rather interesting and surprising news. Derek Cornelius who is supposed to be a very promising talent has been training for 2 years with VFB Lubeck waiting for his playing permission to play in Germany from FIFA has now finally received it. He was already training with the first team and probably would have seen action already in the 4th division had he received clearance. The problem is he was underage for signing as a foreigner but his father actually moved to Germany to work so they were trying to get it because of this reason. However, it looks like the motivation for the move was not

My favourite answer from the AMA was not included in that article. It really speaks to the value of hard work over talent. It also speaks to the untapped pool here in Canada that simply does not see going pro as an option (due to the immense commitment that needs to be made). Fortunately, that is slowly changing. Q: Growing up, how much better at football were you than those around you? A: Their was some very good players that I played with and players that were better than me. The difference was I wanted to be a pro and would do what ever it took to be one.

First of all as usual you are bringing a lot of unrelated issues in and then not at all accurately. MLS does honour its contracts with players, if they did not they would get sued. However, I fully agree that MLS should be offering players contracts that are more fair though that pertains almost entirely to young and/or borderline players without a lot of leverage not the well paid star players they bring in like Drogba. While MLS does have a somewhat unique method of doing things, to claim that they are screwing players unlike any other league in the world is completely untrue. Do you even fo

I'm liking that Haber signed with WFC 2. It was a real loooooooonnnnggg shot that he make the 1st team, but he'll learn watching Rivero, Techera, Bolanos and Morales on the pitch and that should help Canada's Nats on his technical skills. Also being closer to home, Benito Flores can see his progress more closer. If he keeps improving, he may get a shot in suiting up for the Voyageurs Cup starting lineup.

I was hoping he would sign for the first team, but atleast he is going to get minutes at WC2 and he will improve the quality of the team. A better team is better for the development of all the players because it will force other teams to give them more respect.

  19. Okay, I finally booked my flight despite what I would usually do. Nowhere can I find online where the game will be played on March 30 from a reliable source but I decided to still go ahead because it looks as if the airfare is just going up by the day. I was kind of lucky with the itinerary. I will leave YVR 5 minutes later than everybody but will arrive in Mexico close to 3 hours before. My arrival in Mexico City is scheduled for 3h39PM (I have only a quick transit in Houston and that’s where I save time compared to the long stop at SFO). If I am too early, I will just wait for the group

I'll give credit to WFC2 where it is due here. These are the types of signings I love to see. Giving 2 more local kids (well, not local in the sense that they are from Vancouver but from Canada) a place to play.

I have no idea how to split quote The Blue Jays and the Raptors have absolutely zero responsibility to develop young Canadian players. There are no academy systems in baseball or basketball. They cannot identify 12-14 year olds and train them in a professional environment, nor can they bring in any Canadian into their roster/system before they go through the entry draft and are available to all teams. The Blue Jays generally draft a significantly higher number of Canadian players in the draft than American teams which is great, but the calibre of player that is getting left out from pl

Its a rather unique situation for Canada though 1) There are domestic quotas in place against Canadians on 85% of the teams 2) There are minimal pro development spots for Canadians at lower levels The soccernomics argument mostly related to England, which makes sense because a mid-tier English player can just go down to the Championship and play decent level soccer and earn his place in the PL on merit. That situation really doesn't exist here.

^ I never really think about it, but this is pretty much how I feel and probably why I've never really gotten into MLS too much. If I want to watch the best in the world, I can turn on the TV and watch BPL/La Liga/Bundesliga etc. I'm lucky enough to have three other top-level pro teams in the city of which two have world class talent and the other is the Leafs, so for the Jays/Raptors I really don't care if they have Canadian talent because it would be a detriment to their competitiveness (and also because the Jays/Raptors do not have the responsibility to develop players like a Canadian

  27. This is so true. I've never understood the MLS bashing that sometimes happens on this board in regards to Canadian players not getting their chance. Bottom line the MLS is a professional business. if you're good enough you'll play if you're not you won't . No coach is going to risk his team losing and himself potentially ultimately getting fired simply because he didn't like someone's nationality

  28. I wouldn't read too much into the inclusions/exclusions for this camp (Osario, Tiebert, Morgan, etc). I get the feeling for these camps Floro likes to call a mix of guys who are on the bubble and a hand full of veterans to mentor the others, and provide some consistency.

  29. The Osorio omission is pretty big. I was okay with him missing the WCQ because I didn't see how he fit into the line up but with this camp... Yikes.

  30. People complaining about Qatar is just people being brainwashed by the whining press and FA people in England and to a lesser degree the US, with their racist press pushing them on. The Americans held one of the most corrupt Olympics on record, being Salt Lake. The English deserve another WC but should wait their bloody turn. I think FIFA is 100% right to award the WC to an Arab country, and of all options Qatar was clearly the best. Every continent and cultural group should have their chance, that is in principle what unites world football. This is what FIFA has done in the last decades
