  2. I don't think the starting 11 is any better than that of the last 3 cycles. Where we have improved is depth. In other years the bench was pretty weak and if someone got injured before game time the replacement player was usually a significant downgrade. This cycle we have some decent players on the bench and some not even selected. I also think we do have to give MLS some credit for that despite the often justified criticism of the league for not doing enough to develop our players. The next step which will hopefully come soon is to develop a stronger starting lineup with a few more top level

  4. The way i see it: 6 pts is attainable from this set, beat el salvador at home next sept and hope we get 1 pt out of the mex series and hon away. Thats 10pts the same we had last round but would likely get us through

  5. I hate the 4-1-4-1 formation at home, but know that's what our team will play. I hope that if things aren't going well, Floro has the balls to change the formation.

  6. Morgan is an low level starter in MLS; Morrow is a star LB and their best defender by quite a bit. Even the idea of playing Morrow at RB out of position isn't right because you're compromising a better player to accommodate a worse player. If Morgan could play with his other foot; he would have won and kept the RB position this year. Also that would open up his value in a huge way going forward. That's something that's on him to develop a bit of rounding to his game so he can play both sides.

  7. Hoilett starts for QPR at home to Preston North End, a new interim manager, Neil Warnock maybe has given him a clean slate, let's hope he doesn't get injured! He ends up playing 75 minutes, had a very good match by all accounts, probably lacking some match fitness which will be a consideration next Friday!

  8. Jakovic was as solid as I've ever seen him at the Gold Cup. His time in Japan disciplined him. Hopefully he is fit to start.

  9. What are you talking about? I asked who the people were, I wasn't complaining or bitching, just an honest question. When Ben posted who the people actually were I commented how I thought the idea was pretty cool. Relax brother, if you misunderstood my intent no need to stoop to insults.

  19. I never understood how people can pick subs before a competitive match, it makes no sense at all. Like with Aird: if the game allows him to be subbed in, like if we are leading by 2 goals with 5 m left and he can help, perfect. But if it does not help the team get a result, let him rot on the bench for all I care. Especially for these next 6 games. Same with absolutely everyone on the team. Nothing happens from now on in that does not serve a result, and no player or other consideration matters more than that.

  20. I agree the talent level is similar but I give this squad's cycle a slight edge in the midfield, but still so hard and so early too compare. Do agree so much more depth, that is a good thing! Last cycle we tied Honduras 0-0 at home. On paper, Honduras was stronger last cycle, mind you that young striker might be a serious threat. Overall, we have a greater chance this cycle at home to obtain a better result. Sounds cliché, but I feel the squad gained experienced from the last cycle 0-0 draw at home. The vets will not only reinforce but also establish the importance of picking up the 3 poi

  21. I have some cautious optimism going in to this round, I should know better! There is some good young potential in this squad that could make a difference on the day and we may be a lot better coached!

  24. I get scared of the possibility of DCU era brain farts by Jakovic. I mean, sometimes he's the best player on the pitch, other games, he has massive blunders.

  25. Last cycle we probably would have been fine if DeRo and Simpson hadn't gotten hurt and OO hadn't got that red card. Honestly that's the only thing that really kept us out of the Hex and qualification I think. This team also has good overall depth and balance and on paper we are the 4th best team in CONCACAF just like last time. Of course the game isn't played on paper. Our attacking options up front with Hoilett, Larin, Ricketts and Akindele are similar in potential quality to last cycle when we had DeRo, OO, Simpson and Ricketts, but that line got torn to bits so we never got to see their

No Johnson due to fitness. Floro might start Straith and move JDG into central midfield in place of RT, and may prefer TR over TA. I think Teibert gets the start though based on recent form, experience on the BC Place turf and the fact that he'll be jacked for the match!

And your not bothered by the fact that his motivation to play for us was to become an international quickly? I am surprised. Anyways.. We have beat this dead horse enough now. I am done. You are indifferent to Tesho, yet you feel compelled to chime in about this Czech. Would be nice if you also felt indifferent towards this kid and others like him as well, but I can't tell you how to feel. You're a grown man. The only thing that is important is that we WHOOP that Honduran ass on the 13th! Oh, and the U-20 camp in Mexico, that thing too. Let's win!

You may be operating under the assumption that I want Canada to bring in "technical Canadians" from other countries with no bona fide attachment to Canada but the chance to crack a national setup earlier than the otherwise might. I do not. There are many people to blame for these affairs. FIFA, with its shambolic rules, is one of them. The Canadian scouting apparatus doesn't always help. But ultimately it's a matter of personal responsibility. A Canadian kid makes the decision to represent another country, it is not forced upon him. Nobody is unforgiveable. Everybody matures as they get olde

I mean, there's demonization and there's demonization. I wouldn't run this kid over if I saw him crossing the street. But he decided, while he was still a teenager, that he had to go play for the Czech Republic because Canada didn't appreciate his obvious talents on a local club in an odd-numbered year for the youth cycles. He was so incredibly entitled to a spot in our program, and Canada meant so little, that he effed off before he could celebrate those precious youth caps with a beer. There's no need for me to pretend I have any time for that on a Canadian soccer supporters' forum. No need

  32. Zach (Forever a Team) was there with his son, obviously. Gordie from Vancouver if you know him; don't think he's on the board. Me, for a bit. A couple other Vs who I didn't know, shook hands with, and immediately forgot the names of because hey I'm Lord Bob it's what I do. Some non-Vs, some CSA volunteers.. Apparently it was all very last-minute but a few eyes were caught. Cute kids in CSA kits kicking around a soccer ball in Robson Square isn't quite ordinary.

  34. Let's face it. He wasn't good enough for the Canadian u17 side that qualified for the WC. Who would you have dropped to include him? My problem was that when faced with adversity, he did not try to work harder to make the Canadian team. He decided to play somewhere.

Did Cyle Larin throw a hissy fit when he wasn't playing for Canadian youth national teams. Did he run off to Jamaica? Hell no, he put his head down and kept improving and forced his way into the conversation. Thank God everyone doesn't carry a giant chip on their shoulder and feel slighted at everything.

  42. I'm sure Jason is right on the pride thing. Different era, I guess. When deVos was coming up, few Canadians had any other options internationally (talent-wise). Now, as Canadian soccer improves and players are glamorized overseas but not here, more kids see it as a business/career advancement decision. When youth NT players congratulate their peers on joining foreign team, it is clear it is a different world. I'm glad Hoilett joined but can do without the "I can't wait make my debut for the National team" stuff. Clearly he could wait many years. On topic: I hope TSN is picking up away g

  44. No doubt some had wrote them off after the CCL final, and you know what- most of those opinions came from the center of the universe and the Toronto sports network, (damn they're so bias). They killed the game at second half with their commentating cause TFC were losing. Anyways - What's this bs saying the Impact came back from the foot of the table and were 9th??? Yeah like when? When they were in contention for a place in the FIFA club championships in Japan!??? And they call themselves soccer analysts? I guess they've never seen Liverpool neglect the league so they can win a European champ
