It’s a non-league match against a team you already play against. For many (most?) MLS markets, a Mexican team is not a draw just because it is a Mexican team. We enjoy playing the best Mexican teams in the CCC when it matters, but not some random Mexican side for no particularly good reason. So really it is just a handful of MLS markets in the southern states where the Mexican teams are a legitimate draw. It is like somebody looked at Los Angeles and the Texas teams and thought hey let’s make a tournament that will work for them. My hope is that this tournament fades away after a few editions. I think the first step is they should simply double up the first MLS vs MLS match as both a Leagues Cup and MLS regular season match. Reduces the schedule by a game, and ensures the attendance is whatever the market normally draws. But it definitely does not look like the tournament is going the way anyone at either league envisioned. Mexicsn teams struggling much more than I'm sure Liga MX thought, and the attendance not being where MLS thought it would be. I still don't dislike the concept of it in general, but the execution definitely isn't there. Edited July 29 by Watchmen

Outside of a few players pulling some special individual moments, the team just isn't clicking in this formation and he refuses or is unable to adapt. Courtois looks like a really nice guy, but he just doesn't have any ideas. The team, while not amazing on paper, is a lot better than they've been playing, the league has figured out his one trick pony system.
