Match Thread: Voyageurs Cup - Semi-Finals - Leg 1 - Pacific v Vancouver Whitecaps - July 10, 2024

Game is at 7pm PT (4pm ET) on One Soccer.

This is the 3rd ever meeting between these 2 clubs. Pacific eliminated the Whitecaps in 2021. The Whitecaps returned the favour in 2023.

The 2nd leg is on August 27.

This is always the question for this type of match.  I expect to see a mixed lineup from the Whitecaps tonight.

So Pacific CAN draw a big crowd. Have heard a lot of reasons why people are staying away form CPL games this year. Guess they just need a big MLS matchup...

Not really. Raposo on the bench. Johnson has started a few times and has been coming off the bench fairly regularly. Boehmer we'd all like to see more of, but that's a backup keeper issue in general. Prisco is the weak link. Ahmed will be back from the Copa for the return leg. Adekugbe is injured, but hopefully back by then as well.

We can discuss if the Whitecaps should be playing more of their academy players or anyone under 20, but "they don't have any Canadians" is a bit of a lazy take.

I didn't say they don't have any Canadians. They don't have three fit Canadians that are part of their best 11 right now though

Right. They're on national team duty, injured, or (defining on your feelings on him) on the bench. So why would they hate the quota?

Because it means they can't field anywhere close to their best 11 available. This is a strange thing to get hung up on when it's so blatantly obvious

If this was a regular MLS game, only Prisco would be really out of place (and Boehmer, but only because he's the back up - I'm glad he's getting the start here). It's actually more concerning how many Vanni did start, because he's been running them in to the ground.  White and Gauld probably should have started on the bench.
