Recommended Posts

Game is at 7pm PT (10pm ET) on One Soccer.

The first leg in Ottawa ended 0-0.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place during half time. TFC, Vancouver Whitecaps and Forge have already booked their places in the semis.

Yes, but the alternative could be getting Whitecaps or TFC in Ottawa, and given the quality of this Ottawa side i'd like to see that happen!

That would also be interesting.  I just hope we avoid having the two CPL and two MLS teams meet in the semis.  The interleague games are more fun.

Again, however, that guarantees a one-leg CPL/MLS Final 😉

I'm less interested in that.  I'd prefer to see a two leg event where each team get a home game.  (I realize the final will still be one game.)

I'd be interested to see what kind of attendance Ottawa could pull off if they drew TFC.

They seem to do a good job of marketing. So they would for sure be over 10k.

I'd hope so, although their attendance has not been stellar so far this year in either the Canadian Championship or the league.

I'm hoping for Ottawa just because I think they are a really strong team this year. If they go through I feel like both CPL teams would have a shot at making it to the final, regardless of the draw. Of course either of them would still be underdogs if drawn against Whitecaps or TFC, but they'd have a shot.

No disrespect meant for Pacific. I haven't watched them much this season and they have a great defense. I just think Ottawa is the better team this year and I get the impression they are more fun to watch. Also they have a bigger stadium so more potential for a big crowd if they do play one of the MLS teams.

Given that Ottawa are undefeated at the top of the CPL table and have beaten Pacific in Victoria this year, it's hard to argue against Ottawa as the stronger team.  I was thinking of Pacific against Vancouver for the local rivalry but Ottawa does have at least the potential for a bigger crowd.

Either CPL team would be the underdog, as you say, but Vancouver especially has not been looking good lately.  I wouldn't rule out another upset.

Yeah, obviously I am biased but I'd say the injuries tilt things in our favor pretty significantly. Basically, we haven't been beaten this year, any tie except a 0-0 allow us through, we have scored in all of our game except one (against pre-injuries Pacific) and Pacific hasn't been at quite the same level since those injuries IMO, which is not a snipe at them because things like that are bound to affect a team...

I hope ATO isn't overconfident but IMO we are definitely the favourites.

Well, if you consider that it has rained a part of every game or that the last game drew almost 6,000 when there was almost no parking within a couple of km of the stadium, I’m rather satisfied.
